There's not a bunch of choices in this area when it comes to food. For what I can see. there's a sharkey's, a mediterranean place, McD's, Jack in the box, Subway, Taco Bell and Salt - somewhat reasonable high end restaurant across the street. Usually come here with the boss, so even though I can try to rack up the bill, I don't usually. I would like to order rolls but I stop myself from getting the most expensive things on the menu. I tend to get the Combination B: Spicy Tuna Roll, Tempura, and Shashimi. I can't really say much about the spicy tuna roll and the shashimi as I have had better. The spicy tuna roll is probably the same in other sushi places. The shashimi could be a little fresher though. The mixed Tempura is usually the best part of the meal! They're not stingy...lol... I have also gotten their Udon Combination with their Spicy Tuna bowl. Definitely a must get. I really like the udon broth :D But compared to other places around this are or complex/street. I would recommend going to Sushi than anywhere else. read more

A co-worker from out of town and I went to check it out based on Yelp reviews. Very unassuming location next to Albertsons, and my first thought was "how good could it possibly be?" We ordered up from the daily fresh fish specials page - mango salmon, sea bass rolls, scallop, and albacore among others - and all of it was fantastically delicious. Everything was good size and quantity, not the tiny rolls that leave you unsatisfied. Appropriately and not over-priced, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend Hanami. read more

The service was terrible. The quality of the sushi is ABSOLUTELY NOT worth 17$ a roll. Go to Yamato's just up the freeway and you will get better quality fish and a better quality plate of food in general. The servers are not aware of what they sell on their menu and when you ask for anything they clarify that they work here 7 days a week and know that what you are asking for is not on the menu. My coworkers love this place. However I did not like the teriyaki chicken. Very small portion even for lunch menu. The plate was mostly salad and cabbage. The teriyaki was not flavorful either. Not sure about the food, but the owner is super rude. We ordered a couple roles to go, and tried paying with Samsung Pay. It works like a regular credit card, through the the magnet strip. Not like Apple Pay or Android Pay. The owner would not take the payment or even try to take it. He was supper rude and said "it's my restaurant so I do it how I want". Hanami is our go-to place. We sit at the sushi bar, and haven't really experienced major service issues, the chefs are nice and the host is gracious. Although I can see others getting a little annoyed when it's busy, we haven't really seen anything out of the ordinary (put it this way, some places are way, way, way worse in terms of service and surly waiters). Personally, I don't like "sweet sauce" on any sushi item (at any restaurant, not just Hanami), so I stay away from the sushi rolls that have the "Sweet Citrus" sauces. read more

I ate here way too often back when I lived just down the road. Back when I was a regular, the service was very hit or miss. The manager used to insist on ringing up the check, so it sometimes took forever to pay and get out of there. Once we ended up leaving without paying; my husband had chased the waitress around the restaurant (while I bought beer at Albertson's next door) for 20 minutes before finally giving up. However, just thinking about the albacore at Hanami makes me salivate. Our usuals: Albacore Delight, Lobster Roll, Rainbow Roll. I had an unbelievable salmon and grilled eggplant they had for a special one night. The rolls use real crab meat, and their salads have tasty dressing. On our last few visits, the service was very good. They really need to take down those dirty white curtains though. read more

I work close to this spot & visit quite frequently, so I usually only order from their lunch menu. They have a pretty good selection, my norm is the combination 'A' lunch box w/the spicy tuna cut roll and teriyaki chicken. It also includes a salad, tofu, soup, cucumbers/seaweed & 2 slices of oranges. It's a perfect size meal for me! So far the food has always tasted fresh! Our table was loud which scared the waitress me thinks. Of course we're loud, there are 6 empty sake bottles on the table. MORE SAKE!!! The fish here is pretty fresh and very well prepared. They refused to serve the uni because it wasn't fresh anymore which is a very good sign of the integrity of ze ol sushi chef. The restaurant is clean and has a nice ambiance. You're not going to be writing home to Mom about this one, but if you work in the area and need a good regular place, it's solid. The Spicy Tuna bowl is my regular! Hanami also has a California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Miso Lunch Special (to go only) for around $7. My "Go-To" Sushi Spot Near Home! This is my home away from home :) :) That is me smiling, and dreaming about my favorite blue crab hand roll with smelt egg, that a girl from Maryland can not resist! You can't go wrong with this sushi restaurant... the service is great, the fish is fresh, the menu is excellent, there is normally no wait, and the prices are reasonable. Also, it is right next to Albertsons so if you need milk or coffee for the morning, it is well located ;) Their Red Snapper sushi is to die for. My first love was the Pink Peppercorn yellow tail, I think... it could have been Halibut? Blonde moment, lol! but who cares! It's delicious!! I used to love the shitaki roll, but kind of overdosed. My friend had come out from Connecticut and we decided to try the Hanami in Calabasas. Usually, we would go to the Hanami in Sherman Oaks, but they closed it suddenly during the pandemic. To this day, we are so upset about this. But we really enjoyed eating at the Calabasas restaurant tonight. They had all of our old favorites and everything tasted so good. The ambiance was a little different than the Sherman Oaks Hanami, but we didn't care. It was the food we came for. They make the best vegetable and shrimp tempura and the fish was very fresh. Absolutely no complaints...except we hope that the owner will open another Hanami in Sherman Oaks. We miss all the familiar smiling faces, especially Jennifer who always waited on us and knew exactly what we liked. read more

Since writing my last diatribe on Hanami, Yuki has returned a few nights a week as has Jun. Honestly, if you want great sushi in the West Valley, Hanami cannot be beat. I was there the other night and once again, we just sat down and Yuki started making my food. Yellowtail with the sweetest urchin ever on top, wrapped around avocado. Come on..... flying fish served over slices of lemon?? This is not your get in and out for 20 bucks place, but its not 200 per person either. New owners and the food consistency is way better. Still could spend some time training the wait staff. Dishes that I think are better than average are the carpaciios and the like. The service sucks, but you cannot complain about the food...it is delicious! The servers and the staff make you feel like they have actually forgotten about you. We waited in the front of the restaurant without even being greeted for about 5 minutes. The sushi was delicious! I ordered the 3 combo lunch special with spicy tuna roll, 4 piece chef's choice sushi, and the beef teriyaki. The combo came with miso soup, salad, and a few little extras. The sushi was good. Great flavor and just what I was looking for. The miso soup is well, miso soup...not much I can say there. The beef teriyaki was also great. The teriyaki sauce was perfectly tangy/sweet and tasted great when mixed with the rice. But for some reason, the little extras stood out. They were just a side of pickles, crab meat, and an orange slice, but for some reason it just was a perfect complement to the meal. The crunch of the pickles to offset the tender fish. The delicious crab meat and the orange slice to refresh the palate after the meal. For $13, I was absolutely stuffed! The price was modest for the amount of food I ate and it was worth the money. I have been to other Hanami's after visiting this one, but it is clear this location is the best. The Lobster Roll is the star attraction here, and is usually the item that makes even snooty sushi lovers I bring here go "wow." Overall the sushi is very good quality, and the prices fair. Compared to all the sushi you can get in LA, they are the higher end of mid tier sushi. Their lunch specials are an astoundingly good value as well. Seeing the other reviews I have to comment I've never had bad service here. I will note they can be very busy and if you're the type of customer that needs their drink refilled without asking, then you'll be disappointed. I live near the plaza, so this is a convenient place for me to order sushi. The chief at the sushi bar table are definitely nicer than the waiter. The story is ....... One day, I came to the restaurant to meet my friend. There is nobody works for seat customers, and I was thinking that my friend might already be there. So I quietly walked in. As I am seated, the first thing the waiter (a angering looking guy, not the young girl or the boy who served your tea) did, is to tell me "next time, you must wait outside to be seated" with very impolite altitude. Afterwards, he gave me an oily menu. When my friend and I are ordering, I was asking how many pieces will there be served in one order. He simply said "ALL SUSHI are four pieces" like I suppose to know. The food was good, but the service is worse and worse, since it wasn't the same when i firstly visit this place. I wasn't a well-informed sushi eater, having only been to one other true sushi restaurant prior to Hanami's, and I have to say, this place made me a serious sushi fan and blew the other place out of the water! I went with a large group (10 people), so we were able to sample a LOT of the menu, ordering pretty much every appetizer, roll, and dessert they had to offer, and I genuinely cannot think of a single item that I sampled that wasn't good. The one item that does stand out in particular to me was the Hawaiian roll...my friend ordered it and let me try it, and I basically ended up eating her entire order! The wait staff was so kind and gracious to us, especially with our group, which I know was a lot to handle.
