I went to hand and stone Alameda last night on 1/27/2021 for a kinda sorta last minute appointment. I called earlier in the day around 2:30pm and they were super easy to squeeze me in. A nice lady named Brianna answered the phone and took all my details for my 6:30pm appointment that evening. You do have to leave a debit card on file, but they do not charge you until after the service is rendered. Fast forward to my appointment time, when I got in the place was super clean and spotless with a general zen kinda feel to the lobby. Brianna greeted me at the front behind the plexi glass they had in front at the desk, and promptly thereafter took my temperature. It made me feel really good that they had covid measures set in place, to ensure not only our safety but theirs as well! After this she took me to sit down in the lobby socially distanced from one other woman who was waiting as well, and had me do the intake form on the just cleansed ipad, I could tell it was just cleaned because there were no fingerprints in site! I was quickly sold on the cbd add on for an additional $30 dollars to my my initial fee for my massage, and barely had to wait two minutes before my masseuse Jonathan (who was sanitizing the room) came to the front to take me back for my service. Let me start off by saying that even though everyone was wearing a mask, everyone had really nice, and kind energy, and smiles under their masks. I could tell because their eyes were smiling (and not in a creepy, let me upsell you on some BS type of way, but in a super compassionate, empathetic type way.) Even though on the intake form it asks what you'd like to focus on, it was nice that my masseuse Jonathan was super attentive, and he asked me what areas I was having the most trouble with. I let him know that I work a pretty sedentary life in the office and have been for the past 5 years, so my back, back of my thighs and biceps were filled with tension like BRICKS, but that I could only really handle medium soft pressures to break it all up. That seemed like no issue for him and I could feel he really understood and cared. I deal with some anxiety so sometimes it takes me a hard time to fully relax into my massage and I get jumpy at first initial touches (it's something I hate to admit because it makes me feel weird but it's true). For some reason I felt comfortable enough to disclose this with Jonathan and he honestly made me not only feel comfortable with my disclosure but comfortable easing into my massage!! He knew EXACTLY what to do as if he had been massaging me for years and this was our first appointment. With some deep breathing he eased into me with his sure touch and away I went into deep relaxation. I've definitely been other places where I know I have problem areas and they DIG into me, it's usually a lot more pain than pleasure though even though it sometimes works out the kinks, but I leave feeling quite bruised and unhinged. With Jonathan, NOTHING was painful, and I could FEEL my body almost opening up, feeling returning, and stiffness subsiding. When I tell you I can feel the care and attentiveness that Jonathan puts into his clients, I'm not lying. It's like he can feel what your body can take and what it can't, and eases into warming your body up before doing the deeper work and focusing on your problem areas! Some areas he found that I didn't even know needed working, like on my sides! Jonathan was able to make me feel super comfortable even when I would involuntarily tense up when working on areas I knew I'd have problems with like my glutes. He was always super professional when I'd tense up and nervously laugh because I felt like I was being super unprofessional lol (I know I can't be the only one that awkward laughs during a massage). I remembered what he told me in the beginning when we started, took a few deep breaths and tried to ease back into relaxing. Usually I hate flipping over because I feel like it never does anything for me, but Jonathan has even changed my mind on that! Legit dude just KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING!!! I felt in a state of half awake half asleep during most of our time together, in the best way. He was very gentle in lifting and putting my limbs back down, my arms, legs, and especially my head and neck. The hot towels he did worked wonders! I never knew a hot towel rolled up on the back of the neck could feel so dang good! Honestly just go to Jonathan. Just GO! Your body will thank you. It's the day after and all my body feels are the lasting effects of total and sheer bliss. I can definitely tell the difference. Never booking with anyone else tbh. read more

My friend offered a gift of a massage from this establishment, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, for my birthday, on April 6th. It's been years since my last professional massage and I don't know why I've waited this long. The spa is close by and I figure it can only help me and my body out, right? Madison was the front desk associate and greeted me very kindly. She asked me some questions and gave me some paperwork to fill out before the massage. Inside the front entrance is very soothing with music and water fountains that will get you into a calming mood before your massage. I recommend having some lemon or cucumber infused water for refreshments. Azaudrey was my CMT for the hour. The massage room is quite the relaxing setting, as well. Lit up nicely with soft candle light. Azaudrey handled my aches and pains of my back and chest. She had recommended me doing more sessions and I feel I will do so, as I felt pretty great after her massage. It's been a very long time since I had gotten a body massage. I recommend, Azaudrey and Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa to others to take the time to pamper yourself. I surely will return to rid of any more present knots on my back and for relieving my body of future aches from work and sport related causes. So worth it! I am visiting family and came here with my mom and aunt. I like firm pressure, which doesn't always happen at other places, but Cristine gave me one of the BEST massages I've had in a while! She asked me about my problem areas, checked on the pressure during my massage, and had great technique. My tension was melting away the entire time and my whole body feels amazing. I write this after my second experience as a member. A friend put me on to this place and their monthly membership, which is a good deal on paper, however as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. The massage I had was eh, did the job. Ended about 8 minutes early, which when you're paying for a 50 minute service is unacceptable. Yesterday I showed up for my second monthly treatment, a facial, only to find out my esthetician was not going to make it on time due to accident. After planning my day around arriving on time to my appointment, I now have to take time out of another day to come back for rescheduled appointment. The girl at the front desk, who was actually very nice and apologetic, tried to offer me an express facial, but as this was going to be my first ever facial, rushing was not what I wanted. It seems as though most workers come in right before their client appointments. Given we live in the Bay Area and there's always traffic, that shouldn't be an acceptable excuse, especially given this is a service based business. I wonder why the workers aren't required to be at work at least half hour before their appointments begin? It seems like this would eliminate problems with being late and having to reschedule appointments - especially as they book appointments back to back to back and don't leave any room for error. I was debating keeping my membership, but after this non-experience, knew it was a sign that my discretionary income was better spent elsewhere. Remember, you get what you pay for. read more

Let me just start of by saying that this place will steal your money and won't value your time. I booked a 3pm appt for the "Xmas in July" facial. I got there at 2:45pm so I can check in and fill out paper work. I noticed it was 3:10pm and I was still waiting. Someone at reception came and apologized for the delay, that not to worry I will still get my full 60min. They finally took me back at 3:18pm. The esthetician told me to change and she came back to the room around 3:20pm. With a terrible attitude. I could tell she didn't want to be there. She also left the room a couple of times because she couldn't find the "body oils". I would think she should have everything in her room before starting. She was done and told me to changed. I look at the watch and it was 3:53pm. Long story short I paid a full 60 min service for a 30 min facial with a bad attitude service. Nicole is AMAZING-that's the only masseuse I had seen. Staff I encountered in the 2 visits were friendly. This one star review is based how the lack of professionalism front desk/management in my opinion. First, I only had put ONE card on file -when it was time to pay in my second visit I was asked which card I would like to pay with because they had THREE cards under my profile. WTF?! No clue which other members card were on my file. And now that I want to cancel my membership, I was told a manager needs to reach out and speak with me -it's been 2 weeks and I never heard back from the manager. Left 2 messages and called several times this week(without leaving VM), I finally spoke with a worker today and told me the manager is on lunch and will relay the massage and the only thing she can technically say is they will get back to me in "3 business days" after the 2 weeks I have been waiting . Also , my sister canceled her membership and had the same issues of the manager not reaching back in a timely manner and was charge for the following month because they took so long to call her back. NIKA, took some time to get to know me better, holding the chart, she asked me questions concerning my health and my expectations. She explained to me things that I questions about, like what is glycolic peeling and the collagen facial. She knows everything about the services that the spa offers , the beauty products that the spa uses and the regimen that I need to do to maintain a great healthy skin. What I loved about her was how gentle her hands were. She was very mindful and careful about everything. She informed me everything that she would be doing and would be applying to my face before she does it and I appreciated that. She patiently cleaned out the congestions at my problem areas. I bought a 60 minute massage for my mom for a Mother's Day present for after she was driving across the country to visit. Although she was really happy and grateful for the massage, she said that the massage was very mediocre and she was only massaged for less than 50 minutes. (Her appointment was at 10, she was brought back at 10:05, undressed at 10:10, and then already dressed again at 10:59.) When I called to inquire (as I also received an email saying that I was charged for cancelling that appointment--obviously in error), they said that what they call their 60 minute is actually only 50, and their 90 minute sessions are only 80. read more

Which we did not give authority to do so or signed consent. When asked for a refund they refused at first because they were angry we did not call in.
