I've been going to Hando for a while as I love their hand rolls and this time around I didn't realize they had a Houston Restaurant Week menu! It was only $25 per person for lunch, which was a great value. I tried the spiced chicken tsukune for my first course; the flavor was sweet and citrusy but I wish it was served hot as it was a bit cold in the middle. For my second course, I tried the spicy tuna, yellowtail, and salmon which we're all familiar with. Everything was delicious as expected. Great rice to fish ratio, fresh fish, crisp and easy to eat seaweed! Love their soy sauce and wasabi too. I came here on a Friday night and was super excited to finally try Hando! The parking lot is VERY limited and you'd have to wait for a spot to open up. This restaurant doesn't take reservations as well, so I went ahead and put my name on the list at the host stand and waited for 30-45 minutes. The music is super loud to where our party has trouble talking to each other and our server taking our order. However, the food came out pretty fast as the chef makes it right in front of you and place it one at a time on your board. My favorite dishes are definitely the wagyu gyoza and this roll that they has on the special menu. I forgot what the exact name was but it had shrimp in it and it had a nice kick in it. Additionally, the spicy tuna one. My least favorites were the crab options and the shrimp katsu; it didn't taste authentic and could be skipped out on. Overall, I'm so happy I finally tried this place. The tab came out to be $70 for 2 people, and tbh we didn't really leave the restaurant full, but content; which is the whole concept of these type of places. This is my first time trying Hando! Food- got the three cut roll set and softshell crab set. The three cut rolls that is very basic with minimal ingredients. It was tasty nonetheless, and I still love all sushi. The soft shell crab roll set was however quite ridiculous. There is no soft shell crab in the role at all. What is quality of sushi being priced pretty average to average high I would not return. Service - I got this as a takeout and I do love the paper box and the presentation Ambiance - never went in person but if the sushi is off this quality and price it would be hard to convince me to visit in person. My friends and I came here during Houston Restaurant Week (HRW); because of that, we could only order select items to qualify for the special prices. Food (4.5/5): It is a bit on the pricier side, but given the quality and how the rolls are made in front of you, I think it was reasonable. Overall, I found the appetizer and handrolls delicious. I was told customers would get full after about 3-4 rolls along with an appetizer so something to be mindful of. - Potato Croquette (5/5): this was one of the items that could be ordered during HRW and this is probably one of my favorite dishes from the menu. It had a good crispy texture and I believe the potato filling was seasoned as well! In addition, the curry was amazing as well and I found myself eating the curry by itself even when the potato croquette was gone, one of the waiters pointed it too! It was a great way to start my first time at Hando. - Shrimp Ceviche (5/5): this was NOT on the HRW menu, however, it sounded so appetizing I wanted to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. Personally, I loved how the shrimp was prepared tempura style. I'm not too familiar with Ceviche, but I could taste how fresh the vegetables were and the spice packed quite a punch! - Spicy Tuna (5/5): this was on the HRW menu. Of the handroll HRW options, I think this was my second favorite! I could taste the spice and it didn't have that lingering fishy aftertaste. - Yellowtail (5/5): this was on the HRW menu. I did NOT expect this to be my favorite of the HRW handroll options, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure if it was seasoned a bit, but it felt like the fish melted in my mouth. In addition, no fishy aftertaste. It was such a simple, but delectable handroll. My friends also raved about the Yellowtail roll. - Salmon (4.5/5): this was on the HRW menu. My least favorite, but delicious nonetheless. Much like the Yellowtail, it had a good texture that sort of melts in your mouth. My only gripe was the aftertaste, but that's pretty typical with raw salmon! - Matcha Painkiller (3.5/5): it was Happy Hour ($7) so I thought why not! I could taste some matcha but I wish I had gone for a more fruity drink. The taste of alcohol wasn't masked very well, and I wasn't a fan of how creamy the drink was; I guess I learned what I don't like in a cocktail that day, but at least I got to try it. - Hando egg dessert (5/5): comes free of charge at the end of the meal. Pretty tasty, a nice spongy texture. Service (5/5): Pretty good! Our waiter was accommodating and open to answering questions. Ambiance (3.5/5): this place is a little hidden and is tucked around a little corner and doesn't help that it was surrounded by neighborhoods so it was lowkey. Since the place was tight, there wasn't much seating so my friends & I had to wait 25 min. to be seated. I'd describe the setting as a bar/omakase-style environment. The sushi chefs and the bartender will be in the center, and the chairs for customers are surrounding that area, which was interesting. Though I understand the look they were going for, I don't find the seating arrangement ideal if you're eating out with a group, I found it a bit hard to socialize. The interior was super nice, but probably can't accommodate for larger parties. The one thing that I did get as part of the HRW menu I was not a fan of was the chicken meatballs. The meatballs were on the colder/room temperature side and the flavor was not anything super mind-blowing. My friend was visiting from Dallas and wanted to try Handos. We arrived around 3 pm because I really wanted her to try the geso karaage (unfortunately, only available during happy hours). It was a full house but we were able to get seated within 15 min of waiting. The staff were really kind and welcoming upon arrival. My friend and I both thought the rice to fish ratio was off and can barely taste the fish. The sashimi was fresh but nothing too spectacular the highlight of the sashimi was the pickled wasabi. The green muscle skewers were chewy. I felt like the staff didn't really give us much attention after we placed our order. The party next to us was given better service than my friend and I. Wagyu gyozas for appetizers, and for the second course I had the spicy tuna, yellowtail, and salmon hand rolls. The wagyu gyozas were good. Filling was tender but slightly oily. Filling to skin ratio was perfect. For the hand rolls, they were wrapped beautifully. I appreciate the way they wrap the seaweed paper in at the end of the hand roll to prevent any ingredients falling out from the bottom. The sushi rice was perfect. The fish in the hand rolls could be more as the amount of rice to fish was like ten fish in a sea. The spicy tuna wasn't spicy. Have been hearing about this place for years and finally went tonight. Hand rolls were 10/10 for me so fresh and delicious, the blue crab hand roll and the shrimp katsu HR were my personal favorites. Service was incredible they were checking on us constantly and chefs were so nice they make the HRs in front of you. There is not much seating inside, there is only bar top seating. Parking lot is also pretty small with limited spaces. Happy hour is from 3-6pm and cocktails are $7 and bar eats $5. Easy 5 stars for this wonderful experience. Solo self care date to try something new and stumbled upon this place in the heights. Brightly lit kitchen/bar with a great ambiance and atmosphere. This is not a large restaurant and reservations are recommended but since I was alone, I was accommodated quickly. I sat at the bar area but there was a back room which seemed to have more casual, lower table seating. Highly recommend the bar. This is a hand rolled sushi bar with a great menu! I wanted to try so much! I was told the best value was to get a full service which is 3,4 or 5 rolls. These cannot be changed or substituted but I think the selections were perfect. I got the 4 rolls; fried oyster, delish. Salmon, not a fan of cold salmon but still good. Blue crab, very tasty! And spicy tuna, chefs kiss! The staff was amazing and very on top of taking care of everyone without making the place seem "busy" if that makes sense. I loved that they had purse hooks under the bar. I did try to connect to WiFi but I didn't see it pop up so I didn't try nor did I ask. Restrooms were fairly clean. Single units for his and hers. Bar space was kept very clean at all times and they put your sushi on a platter directly in from of you. I feel their prices were extremely fair! The full service actually saves you money as individual sushi was between $5-10. In total I spent for myself (did not have a drink) under $30. Amazing! My cousin from out of town suggested going to this place because she was craving sushi and I figured it'd be a good place to try since I'd heard alot of good things about it from friends! Their parking lot is VERY small and goes one way so I had to park somewhere else because there were no parking spaces when I arrived. They have some street parking and areas in the back as well but just have to be careful because there are private areas and other restaurant parking that's marked off. When I arrived with my boyfriend we let them know we were waiting for 2 others so they said we could go to the bar next door to get a drink while we wait. They would prepare 4 seats for us once the other 2 arrived. It was a hidden bar that was connected by a door next to the host stand which was really cool! You can also enter the bar by going outside and directly next door to the restaurant. Both my boyfriend and I ordered cocktails and closed our tab and my cousin just arrived right at that moment. I waited until i got my drink and we all went next door again to Hando to let the host know our party was complete and ready to be seated. Sitting at the table, it goes all the way around the room with all the chefs in the center so you can see them make the rolls directly in front of you. It was really cool! For appetizers, we ordered multiple things to share and try as well. Then we decided to order a variety of rolls. My cousins ordered multiple rolls to share while my boyfriend I ordered individual rolls for each of us because we wanted to try different types of fishes. Everything was delicious that I had there and it's quite enjoyable! You're paced through the meal since you have to wait until the next roll is made and put on the board in front of you. Service was great as well with picking up empty plates, refilling drinks and getting orders. There are multiple waiters that walk around and check on you throughout the meal and it's fun to socialize next to the people on either side of you as well! I would definitely come back here again as a date night or by myself! For large groups of 2-4 people it's not too bad but any bigger then it's kind of hard to socialize to the people on the end because the table is linear so you can really only talk to the people next to you. A very small restaurant with probably 20 seats around the bar. We met some friends here and were lucky to find 4 spots during lunch time. I will say that I was very impressed with the food here. The menu here isn't large but I'm pretty positive that everything you order would be delicious. I ordered the 4 piece and absolutely loved the salmon. I also paired it with one of their Japanese lagers and it was just a fabulous quick lunch. Came in to check out Kanpai Club but it wasn't opened yet and the staff at abandoned were kind enough to seat us till we waited. We took advantage of their Happy Hour from 3-6 pm and got drinks. I got the Everything's Lychee Keen. It was delicious and not overtly sweet. We ended up ordering all three sashimis - which were all delicious but I preferred the Hamachi. I also got the Ocean Trout hand roll per the waiters recommendation - and it was so good and fresh. Also got the Matchstick Salad which was refreshing and the Nasu Miso. Some friends and I went to Hando for an Omakase early dinner and had an absolute blast! The rolls were hand rolled to perfection and they have fixed sets that make it easy to choose what to eat if you can't decide. My favorite was the Blue Crab roll - it had a blue crab mix, yuzu tobiko and micro cilantro, so good! I also got the yellow tail sashimi which was very fresh and tasty and we shared lamb and scallops skewers. Drinks were also refreshing and we all enjoyed every single thing we ordered. When I first saw online menu for Hando, I was not impressed. However, after a Tuesday night experience with a couple of girlfriends, I will happily recommend this spot to others. I highly recommend getting to Hando early for happy hour at the bar next door- Kanapai. Hando is a no reservations spot, but having the bar to wait in is perfect. We had the margarita and it was delicious. I also had a lychee hi-chu- super refreshing and light. Hando is efficient when you sit down- I loved the presentation in front of you. Basically anything on the menu is good and high quality. We loved the uni, the toro, the blue crab! and the scallop skewers. They also end your meal with a cute little egg custard branded with Hando's name. Hando is not made for you to linger, but I didn't mind ending back in the bar next door. We haven't been here since we moved three years ago and so I decided to give them another try since they were still in business and to me that means that something is going in the right direction. I ordered the scallop Bento box because the sushi options sounded the most delicious to me and the entire box was so good. Now, if you are planning on being really, really full, then this is probably not the lunch for you, but I am, almost extremely full after this, and everything was so tasty from the sushi rice, which was perfectly seasoned to the scallops which also had grilled lemons on there that you could squeeze on top to get all of the flavor to the sushi roll with the oyster flavor burst in every bite. The matchstick salad was also perfectly tangy and provided that acid balance for the food. They have a Houston restaurant weeks menu that I didn't try because I was confused on the offerings (don't judge) but I will definitely be back and more so when I have an actual job. It's a cute place with interesting hand rolls. I went here for HRW lunch. The parking lot is small as so is the restaurant but I enjoy how you can watch hand rolls be assembled. The employees are really nice and polite and provided great service. I was greeted while seated and the concept of their menu was explained to me. It is just what you'd expect for a fried oyster accompanied with bell pepper. Lastly I had a coconut miso shrimp hand roll, it is served with cold shrimp tossed in toasted coconut, miso, and a edamame curry. After my meal I was presented with a small tomago, as a dessert. Hando is very similar to the famous Kazunori, but I think it's slightly cheaper. This is an ideal spot for dates as it features a bar-type seating with a hand-selected handroll menu. I ordered the 5 handroll set and I absolutely loved the salmon and blue crab rolls. The other three rolls in the set were alright and nothing too special. I tried one of their craft cocktails and it was also very mid. The only improvement I would suggest for Hando is switching up the order of the rolls. Without a doubt, the blue crab is the signature and one of the best handrolls they offer in the set and I really wish I ended on that roll instead of the shrimp tempura roll. Nonetheless, pretty good and I would recommend for anyone craving handrolls around the Houston area. read more

The crab hand roll. Very good. Don't pass on the sea trout! Really good! The tuna and salmon were just meh. And usually these are what I look forward to when I eat sushi. The cocktails from Kanpai were also very good. Go for the drinks and potstickers. Try the crab and sea trout sushi.... But again I'm the meh category: Seaweed salad. I have been meaning to check this place out for sometime so figured why not for a late lunch. It's situated in a strip next to some other great spots! Parking is available in the strip, though I'm sure it proves more challenging in busier hours. Interior is very Japenese inspired where patrons sit at the Sushi counter. We were sat instantly upon arrival, which was good considering how hungry we both were. Food / Drinks We had the Audacity and Sweet Gin Music for cocktails. Both were good and serving them in unique cups makes it a more fun. I really enjoyed the spice of the Sweet Gin Music, but I wouldn't say either drink blew me away. We settled on a few plates and hand rolls though notably given the late lunch, it was be eaten almost instantly as it came out. The wagyu beef small plate was solid, but the pork belly skewer was fantastic. The Toro and Unagi roll were probably the favorites though the others were all great - soft shell, blue crab, featured roll - gin and juice?). Service Wow, between being sat fast and ordering to food delivery. It was all very fast. Most the items we ordered were in front of us in less than five minutes. A few others a bit longer, but we never had a delay in items to eat once our order was in. They check in frequently to refill water and see if there's anything else you need. Very attentive and having lived in Japan myself, I love the counter style delivery. Pricing This is subjective and relative, but I felt the cocktails are in line with what you would pay elsewhere though it did seem the actual drink was less compared to the amount of ice. Hand rolls are all priced decently. The small plates and skewers could maybe be a buck or so less? Overall it is in line with what someone should expect, particularly given the times at the macro economic level. This is specifically for the"hidden bar" located in Hando. We did not eat here! The bar was so loud from the blaring music and super tiny that you couldn't hear the person next to you. We ordered a "special japanese whiskey" to compliment our old fashion. Honestly, it was very overpriced. Almost $40 for 2 old fashions, and they weren't the greatest. read more

Oh my goodness one of the best places we've eaten at this year! Came for HRW. Small cozy environment, everyone sits at the bar. Not ideal for large groups but great for date night. The octopus skewers were my favorite: cooked perfectly, not too hard and chewy but soft and tasty. Each handroll were so tasty and packed tight, we were so full off of our 3 rolls. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. At the end of the meal was a complimentary dessert. Hubby and I had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning! read more
