Outstanding service from Hanson. He took great care of us and overall we had no complaints. The ambiance is very nice too with good music and even TVs to view. Food overall was great and you can't beat the Houston Restaurant Week deals. From sushi to lamb chops to crème brûlée cheesecake there was nothing I didn't like and I absolutely would be back to try more from the full menu.

Parking lot across the street. There's a good amount of seating inside. Low lighting and quiet atmosphere when I went. Here's what I remember from the rolls that I tried: 1. Studemont: light flavors, fresh tasting fish, slightly spicy. 2. Dirty Young Girl: Very rich and heavy. 3. Yakuza: bland... The rolls are a good portion and pretty filling. Good to share with a small group.

Madori was our server and she had the best recommendations! Really enjoyed the sushi embodied fresh and flavorful palates. Definitely recommend coming here! Especially for the ambiance if you're looking for a cute date night.

Madori was our server and was so great! This is one of our favorite spots - food is always delicious and great ambiance. And bonus they have some yummy mocktails (pictured)

Aesthetic was 10/10! Loved the wide range of options as well. Madori was very attentive which made my experience overall pleasant. Will be coming back.

My boyfriend and I went to Sushi by the Heights for our Valentines dinner last night, and it was such a great experience. The ambience is really cool -- stylish decor, great lighting, and a fun but relaxed vibe. We loved the atmosphere. The sushi was very good, and there were several dishes we truly enjoyed. It was honestly hard to narrow it down to just one favorite. To top it off, we tried the fried Japanese donuts and the crème brûlée cheesecake and wow, the cheesecake was absolutely amazing. Between the quality of the food, the beautiful space, and the overall experience, we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend for a date night or a nice evening out.

Amazing atmosphere, service, and cuisine. Madori went above and beyond. Very sweet and attentive. I ordered the shirt ribs, asparagus, scallops, and miso soup- all delicious. Thank you for the excellent service.

I have been here a few times and typically all the food is timely and tasty. I tend to go for happy hour, I love the variety of option on theirs. Their maki and sashimi are so tasty and my husband loves the gyoza. The robata are a good grilled option as well. I recently tried the oysters, but for some reason there was a major holdup on getting them, so likely will not be getting those again. Our servers have been great and its a nice place without too loud of music (a dislike of mine since I am often out for quality time with friends and family). There is a lot of parking around the side and additional lot.

Yakuza roll - crispy spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber topped salmon, spicy mayo, tempura flakes

I've often passed by this restaurant going home from work or ate at nearby restaurants, but one night, my friend and I decided to try it for happy hour. The restaurant was empty, so we were seated right away. The ambiance is dark and intimate, and the decor from the artwork and brick wall is lovely but also adds to the dark space. We ordered a few things from the happy hour menu and outside of that. Asparagus - Grilled; simple, straightforward Pork belly - Nicely grilled with the marks. Full of flavor and tender Ribeye - This was cut in strips, so it tasted a little more tough. If it was a whole piece, and we were asked how we wanted it prepared, it would've been better. Seaweed salad - Fresh, traditional flavor Fried rice - It was ok. They packed a lot in the bowl due to the sticky rice texture. Too peppery and overpowered the whole bowl. Vegetable tempura - I liked the variety of veggies and light, crispy batter. Always a fan of veggie tempura. Soft shell crab - Actually never had this before. I don't eat a lot of variety when it comes to seafood, but I do like crab. This crab was breaded nicely and had great flavor. Pleasantly surprised. The Ritz - The salmon and avocado are placed on a Ritz cracker. Interesting take. A little too fishy for me despite the avocado. Maybe if they drizzled some eel sauce or something. Felt like it was missing something. Only comes in 4 pieces. Yakuza roll - Part of the special maki menu. It has crispy spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber topped salmon, spicy mayo, tempura flakes. I tried a couple pieces. Not bad but the flakes get everywhere. Restrooms are clean and even come with some toiletry items and mouthwash. Pretty unique. There's ample parking in the lot nearby. Great place for happy hour or dinner with friends or a date night. Check them out!

My boyfriend and I came for HRW and we absolutely loved it. We definitely want to come back to try their regular menu. The crowd on a Friday night was very mixed in terms of vibes, but all very lively! There were some people more casual, some more on lively celebratory vibe, others on a date night, which I loved that there was a mix of. Our server was amazing and she gave great drink recommendations and was super sweet. Food and drinks were super good- they do not hold back on the drinks! The lychee martini was our favorite. There is a parking lot right next to the building which is convenient! Definitely will be coming back to try more things!

My husband and I had frequented the Studewood Cantine and found out it closed! It was fate because late Friday night we were on our usual mission to figure out where to go have dinner and drinks after 10:00 PM with at least a 30-45 minute drive from where we live! We found this amazing sushi place with reverse Happy Hour on Friday's from 11:00 PM until 2:00 AM next door to the old Studewood Cantine. We happened to get there right at 11:00, chilled and laid back atmosphere with a DJ playing a good mix of music. The music was perfect where you could vibe and still have a conversation. Mike the bartender was great! We had excellent service throughout the night at the bar. The sushi was great quality and presentation. It's so hard to find good sushi bars that have flavorful spicy tuna or spicy salmon without drowning it in spicy mayo, which I'm not a fan of. The spice was definitely a different heat not spicy mayo. The spice was the perfect level of heat maybe spicy sesame oil, which i added Sriracha for extra heat because I love extra spicy. The reverse HH prices were extremely reasonable and well worth it. We got to meet the GM, Jacob who was checking on us. He was super chill and nice and we chatted with him for awhile telling him we'll be back this Friday! If you're looking for a great late night sushi place with reverse Happy Hour this is the place! See you guys on Friday!

    SEX ON THE MOON ROLL

Located in the heights, this restaurant is at the first floor of a multipurpose building. I was afraid that parking would be difficult but they have their own private lot right across the street. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating available, and it was packed inside. I ordered the by the heights, sex on the moon, green dragon, and the dirty young girl rolls. I also ordered the tuna tartare and got their crispy calamari for free since they had an offer of a free app if you are following them on Instagram. The chef also came out and explained every dish we got to us. For many of the rolls, they place half the rolls in kimchee dressing and the other half in sesame oil. The Kimchee dressing makes the rolls taste more fresher but I liked the sesame oil more, as it provided more pop in the flavor with some aroma in it. My favorite roll was the dirty young girl roll but specifically the half with baked crab and masago. Just think of baked green mussels but in crab form, on top of a sushi roll. The other half with the chopped tuna was ok, the tuna had a nice texture but it was bland. My next favorite roll was their signature by the heights roll. The sex on the moon roll kind of had a little too much going on for me. As for the apps, the tuna tartare was similar to the roll where the tuna was a little bland. I liked how it came with seaweed salad and avocado though. The crispy calamari was solid as well, but it could've been crispier. Overall, service was pretty good but I did wait awhile to get my bill. I saw someone order the tsunami roll which came with a whole lobster tail tempura so I would like to try both that and their soft shell crab next time. The bathroom was really nice with amenities like mouth wash, lotion, and floss. They even had a secret room where they also do omakase.

    HAMACHI SERRANO PEPPER (CHILLED 8)

Madori was very helpful and sweet. Sashimi and Nigiri are great quality- recommend the amberjack and medium fatty tuna. Loved the Crispy rice spicy tuna! Great ambiance but tables were very close together especially along the booth on the wall. Didn't try the drinks but they seemed to come out fairly quickly. Lack of seeing management on the floor but the chefs found a way to make it out more than once, touching tables and speaking to guest with questions. Go again? Honestly, eh.

    Crème brûlée dessert- good!

I had…read moreheard good things for years, and I remember driving past it a couple times and not seeing it or any signage. Even this time the GPS took us to an entrance that had us going the wrong way down a one-way, but we eventually figured it out I will say that the parking isn't all that great, but we were able to find a spot. If the parking lot is full you should be able to find street parking nearby Kanpai Club is a sister location to Handos. They share a kitchen and you can walk through an inside door access either. You can find the same cocktails and bites from Handos on the Kanpai menu, but there's also additional drinks and bites The bar feels like a Japanese Izakaya. It's a narrow space resembling a Japanese outdoor bar. It's intimately lit and well decorated. We did have to wait for two spots to open up, but that didn't take too long The bartenders were friendly, professional, and efficient. We went on a Friday night (fairly late), and they had two dedicated bartenders The cocktails were fun and were beautifully crafted. Most were served in novelty glassware. You can order classic cocktails, but both Kanpai and Hando offer a variety of signature cocktails. Most having some sort of Japanese or Asian fusion. They have beer, wine, and extensive sake list, as well as green tea and other nonalcoholic options The cocktails were tasty. The only one I was iffy on was their Espresso martini. It was poured from a machine and I guess there were having issues with it. The presentation was phenomenal. There was a roasted marshmallow garnish. The drink itself was far too Smokey in flavor than I like, or at least in terms of my espresso martinis The Yuzu Kosho fries were incredible. The flavors really hit the spot. The Okinawa Potato salad was both questionable to looks and and to eat lol. This purple mound of potato's had an interesting taste, look, and consistency. It wasn't bad, just... interesting and new Some tips: If you can't find this spot from the street, look for Handos. It's part of this restaurant Ask the bartender about the happy hour menu. And most nights they're open until 12am, but on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until 2am If you order food online (technically from Hando's) you can get 10% off using code: HANDO10. This is part of their "Hando and Chill" special Cheers!!

It's located right at 19th St. and Shepherd near the light. There's a small angled parking lot that can be tight when people park along the fence. It looks like a cute tiny A-frame home with a few patio tables in the front. The inner area has about 6-7 high tables. It's nice and clean inside. The vibe feels similar to H-Town Brewing Co. but on a smaller scale. You can also sit at the bar. I didn't really like the high tables/chairs. They're not as comfortable. It was hot out, and there are mosquitos, so we sat inside. I ordered the salmon plate for steak night. The drinks here are ok, and since I don't really drink, I was looking for mocktail options. In this era, most places have mocktail options with brand alternatives like Ritual, Seedlip and Lyre's or at the least, something with juice, Topo Chico and simple syrup. The female bartender made me a NA margarita which was great. I liked that she didn't make it too sweet or too tart which happens with mocktails that don't have alternatives and are mostly juice or lemon. On the other hand, when I ordered a second, the guy bartender made it too sweet. I didn't like his version. For the alcoholic versions, they seem to have good cocktails, wine, beer and flights. They also have daily specials. Aside from the steak night, they don't serve food here. It wouldn't be my first choice of bars in this area.
