Food was pretty good - but it took quite a while for our food considering it was closing soon. While we were waiting on the sandwiches we ordered from the menu, we saw other people looking at different menus. We finally asked our waitress and she was surprised that we didn't get the "dinner menu". Yeah, we were surprised to find out there was more than just sandwiches for dinner. She apologized that the person who seated us just didn't give us the dinner menus even though it was just about 7pm! So she said if we wanted, they would let us order from the dinner menu and give our original food to someone else. Honestly, by that time, we were sitting there for more than 45 minutes and we were starving, so we just told her we'd take our sandwiches. I have to say she was extremely apologetic about it, and was genuine. We appreciate that, but it's still unlikely we'll return. read more

Stopped by after a visit to Longwood Gardens. First time visit with someone else who had been prior to the remodel. Parking and wait were reasonable for a lunch time on a holiday. Even as a part of 7, we were seated a lot faster than I expected. Noisy inside with a lot of groups dining, but it was not hard to have a conversation amongst ourselves, even with being seated next to the front door. Seems like most of the comments here are regarding the wait for service. I'd say the only really annoying part here was waiting for our food, which took a lot longer than we expected. A few tables that were seated around the same time as us got served and left before we got our food. Otherwise, the food here was fantastic. I had the mushroom omelet, but also tried the eggs benedict, Greek salad, and mushroom that others at my table ordered. They definitely feed of the mushroom hype in the Kennett Square area, but the mushrooms here are definitely something else, in the good way. I'd recommend the place for anyone in the area visiting Longwood Gardens. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially with a large group around meal times. The 'country frittata' ($16.95) is eggs scrambled with steamed potatoes, plastered with cheddar cheese, and a tablespoon of breakfast meats. The home fries were steamy and flavorless. The blueberry pancakes ($10.95) had real blueberries in a boxed pancake mix. The standout was the coffee. Don't wait in line for Hank's, McDonald's is about a mile away. The prompt service and the remodel, which is stunning, does not come close to making up for the poor food. At least now, after a year's long wait, I know. read more

Made a last minute decision Wednesday the 29th to try to check this place out in their newly reopened location. It was just me, and the timing was kind of post lunch (1:30), so I was surprised to see that all the tables were taken, and only option was the counter. I was OK with it. I deliberately sat in proximity of where some people were standing / working, and I looked at the one page lunch menu. In the 10 minutes I sat there, no one asked me if I wanted anything, and to be frank, the menu was like "This is it?" This is what you spent all that effort to rebuild and you provide only a one-page menu for lunch? One page on the back for breakfast? No mentions of the usual diner fare of chicken fried steak, or even meatloaf? No fried chicken. The most exotic item was a gyro sandwich. Thoroughly disappointed in the service and the range of the menu, I left without ordering anything. I didn't want to waste my money. read more

When I see a line outside a restaurant it usually means the food is worth the wait and in this case, I'd agree. Located on a busy corner just outside of Chad's Ford, Hanks place has plenty of parking both in the lot surrounding the building and across the street in the overflow lot. We spotted the line before we even parked, as it spilled down the ramp leading up the the restaurant entrance on the second story. Fellow line-waiters seems content to wait their turn so we went with it. Apparently there's no reservations and it's first come, first serve - there's no list, they just figure it out when you reach the door and it all seems to work out like clockworks. We waited about 30 minutes and were seated at the bar-top. It was obvious they were short staffed but the absolute hustle from every single person working was incredible, and we never felt ignored or rushed at all. I've never had Chipped beef so I had to try the Hanks Style Benedict (poached eggs on top of a sausage patty & a biscuit positivity smothered with chipped beef gravy with a generous helping of home fries. I learned chipped beef isn't my thing, but everything was cooked to perfection and I have zero complaints - fluffy biscuit, perfectly poached eggs and what I hope was sausage from a local vendor, great flavor. I personally loved that every single coffee cup looked both handmade and completely unique, it just added to the charm of the place. Interior felt a lot like a mountain cabin, exposed beams and very tall ceilings; very unique style for the area. Pro Tip: be patient if/when there's a line, breakfast is worth the wait. read more

Have lived in the area for 40 plus years and finally got around to trying Hank's...wish I had done it sooner! First time there got a tuna salad platter (they don't believe in small portions so I got two meals out of it!). My husband had the Kennett Square omelet- it took up most of a huge platter type plate and was delicious! This time I had a tuna sandwich on rye which was excellent and he had a tuna Niçoise salad with a type of mustard mayo combo dressing... beautiful presentation and absolutely delicious! Everything is homemade! Very friendly staff and beautiful interior! Highly recommended! read more

It was an old neighborhood establishment that was ruined by a storm rebuilt and now they are trying to recoup the money much better places to go for breakfast. Met my parents for breaksfast on a busy Sunday. The wait was three ramps down. People were patient wait was about 35 min. We get to door and an abrupt host asked how many we said four and were relegated to the corner to wait while groups of two were ask in. We waited another 10 mins in the vestibule. We haven't been here since the rebuild and truthfully are not rushing back. There are a lot of menu options for breakfast and lunch they have all the basics covered and a few extras. At 10:30 they were already sold out of two options. We ordered our meals and one person ordered oatmeal and asked for it before meal the answer was "no". Not we'll try and see ... just no. We ordered two standard breakfast meals one cheddar omelet and the other a western omelet . They came with toast that was barely toasted and pre-buttered which just made it soggy. The potatoes were standard thicker sliced grilled home fries. I ordered a side of corned beef hash and home fries. The hash was grilled but portion was smaller than expected. The food was warm not hot. Definitely short on staff at this restaurant. They attempted to clear the plates before people were finished eating which tells me we're rushing you out or we don't have enough plates. Service was slow and drink refills were not happening. I can definitely say with certainty that the old hanks place was better in good quality and customer service. All in for breakfast for 4 was 100.04 all in including gratuity. I can say the new building is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing the ceilings are high which makes this spot very noisy so be aware not the easiest place to have a conversation quietly . read more

I'm almost never in the neighborhood but I have some friends who live in the area. It's not a surprise to me or anyone I know but for some reason I just had to get the bagel with lox and cream cheese with a side of guacamole. The bagel with lox and cream cheese I understand, but the side of guacamole was a little strange though it was still pretty good. I loved the food and the vibe of the restaurant was pretty cool. The restaurant had a family-friendly atmosphere and I could see that kids and adults alike loved the place. My family and friends also enjoyed their food. Although we weren't allowed to bring our dogs in the restaurant, we still had a great time. I loved the food and the people who took our order and I would come back here if I could and the next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I just have to share how much I love Hank's. It's one of those places that instantly makes you feel at home. It's relaxed, friendly, and full of good energy. The staff are always welcoming and attentive without being overbearing, and the service is consistently great. The food never disappoints. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. It's such a gem to have right here in our neighborhood. The new Hank's is nice, beautiful architecture inside and a nice covered outdoor seating area. The acoustics in the seating area are loud, which could bother some sensitive people. The food was good overall - probably a 4 out of a 5. There was a fly landing on our food the entire meal, which could have dampened the good eating experience. I would say the food is on the higher price side for breakfast. The service was great. I would come back and try a few more things. read more

Checked out the new location and it's just as good as it was in Kennett. Can't beat the breakfast quality of Hanks! We loved the new interior and additional outdoor seating. I do think the waiting section/process could be changed a bit to accommodate for older clients - but giving grace since they are barely a week into this new spot!! While we are sad they didn't stay in Kennett, we don't mind the 15 minute drive down the road! read more

Not enough help. Food not worth the price. Waiting line needs re-do as you wait with no one taking your name or party number. Steps and a 4 tier ramp for waiting with no great organization. With all the re-make of this place, they should have opted for more tables and less of a counter service. Upsides are the place is very clean and there is plenty of parking. One of the used to be regulars of the original Hanks. This place is in your face oversized and overdone. What made the old place work was that they had regulars that came all the time. You would run in to neighbors, catch up and have a great meal. There is nothing here that remotely resembles the place it replaced. I wish them every success, a long and successful run, and many years of operation. But there are so many other places to go in our beautiful area, where you don't have to complete a maze to get to the front door. read more

I got the Breakfast Sub to go. $16.48 after tax & tip. Huge disappointment. It was small. When the container was put in the bag the one egg fell off the sandwich and all the cheese slid off the egg. Asked the waitress how the man and two sons got a table and walked in front of us. Was told it's the area and patrons that live around there do that. And sad part the restaurant lets them. Beautiful remodel but no elevator. I came with my 83 year old father and they wanted us to wait outside in line in the heat. Luckily someone gave him a seat on the only bench. No idea how the food is because the wait is too long despite being seated. Too noisy!!! They need to convert tables to booths or they will lose customers because of the noise. Not a good place for the elderly as it sounds like you are in the middle of a party or crowded bar! read more

Went early Saturday night 5 pm there was one table left and of course the counter.waitress came by and asked what we wanted to drink we told her and we said we knew what we wanted to order. She said "I'll be back in a bit" after she finally came back we ordered a salad same cost as our dinner and two dinners.everything came out at the same time. Never got refills on drinks,never asked how everything was, never cleared our dishes. We had to hunt her down for check which she said she would bring in a bit. She was only taking orders, a runner in the kitchen brought out food, the owner was at the register. The young girl only cleared the dishes when we left. We won't be back :( read more

I was so looking forward to revisiting Hank's again. However my experience is similar to many reviewers. Long line, being seated at the counter did not make service faster at all. Food was pricey and meh. Place was lovely but so noisy and disorganized. Where are the lunch items other than a few sandwiches and burgers? Sometimes old memories are superior to actual dining experiences. I hope the owner pays attention to what customers say. read more

My husband and I stopped here for an early dinner on a Saturday. We did not have to wait for a table although the place was very full. There appeared to be only 2 servers on duty so it took a very long time until our beverage order was taken. Since waiting so long to give drink order, we also gave our food order at same time. Drinks came right away. Food took at least 25 minutes. It did come out steaming hot which was great. Our server did check on us 1 time but never offered drink refills. Once finished our food, again had to wait a very long time for the check. People who had been seated long after us were done and gone way before us. Won't be returning. read more

Came for lunch with friends. We sat in a booth and ordered coffees and an iced tea. It was very hot in there, and there were no shades on the windows to block the sun. The waitress seemed annoyed that we weren't ready to order yet and said she would be back. For lunch we ordered a turkey sandwich, a salad and a frittata. The food came out fast and was good. The waitress disappeared for a while and other tables were looking around for her as well. We had no iced tea refills, and not asked if we wanted anything more. She dropped off our check and told us where to pay. The food was good, but I thought the prices were a little high. The total was over $72.00 for three lunches including the tip. Maybe if this was dinner, I don't know. Plenty of parking out back, prices a little high and service was lacking. read more

Awful! After waiting 35 minutes to get in, I ordered the "traditional French toast" from the menu. What came out was a plate with four small oblong slices of baguette bread. Absolutely nothing on top. I had to ask for butter, powdered sugar and syrup, and it still tasted terrible! The server said that the bread is soaked overnight in French toast batter. Mine tasted just like plain bread, with nothing in it. I told the owner about it when I paid the check at the register, and she never even looked up or apologized. Never going back again! Not only that but the place is so loud inside, you have to yell to the server and to the people next to you. I think the Kennett Square location was better before it closed. read more

Food was average, our group had to wait well over and hr, service was not good, did not even get all of what was ordered till we were almost done. The new remodel did not take in consideration their clients, as 95% are seniors, hard chairs not cushions, guess they want u to quickly eat and get out as by that time your rear is killing you.
