Great place to go when you are looking for a reasonably priced meal in college ave that isn't pizza or a fat sandwich. I would suggest getting the crisps (they are just fajitas). Very very good and they are a big portion. Also the shakes are top notch and made without mix (made with fresh ingredients). The workers are usually helpful and nice. I'd consider Hansel a Rutgers staple. Whether you want to take the family out for breakfast or to end your night out with some home-cooked goodness, Hansel 'n Griddle is the place to go. Dining area is cleanly most of the time, with the exception of when it's busy and staff can't keep up with cleaning every table, but this place isn't formal so what else can you expect. Decor and set up makes the place look like a franchise, but not to the point where everything feels inauthentic. The quality of the food never fails to disappoint. I always go for the potato wedges with cheese and gravy, gravy can be a bit salty at times so I always ask for less, but that's just me. But it's always served warm and with a smile. Hansel at Rutgers is my first and only Hansel 'n Griddle experience, so I look forward to visiting other locations to see if their menu is consistent with the menu here! read more

The food is hmm okay, but it is not good enough to make me tolerate their rude service. I've been there a few times, and even though I like the food, the service is very mean that makes me change my mind every time and get food from somewhere else. Last time, for example, a high school kid was taking my order. She was staring at me with a bold face as if I owed her something and finally took my order with that attitude!! I read a lot of the reviews before going which convinced me to come here, however if you are a young college student looking for a quick and affordable meal--this place is just adequate for that. Avoid this place if you have life-threatening allergies; they list absolutely nothing about their allergens. I ordered the chili online and it has sesame seeds in it. I've been going here for a few years now... I used to pick up a tomato & feta breakfast wrap with turkey bacon before a Rutgers tailgate. I have tried a bunch of their foods and my favorite is either the chicken BBQ panini or the Chicken Bacon Ranch panini. The "new" location is more appealing then the last because it is more welcoming to and eat. The pancakes are always a good size and are inexpensive, and I would have to say they might even be better then IHOP. Easily my favorite place to order take out or delivery from. All of the food I have ordered from this restaurant has been delicious. I usually order the tuna crisp, which is so tasty and satisfying. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the customer service isn't great. I always feel rushed and I feel like the cashiers all have an attitude problem. The chicken wasn't overcooked. The portion was fairly big, I couldn't finish the rest of mine and ended giving half of it to my boyfriend. Hansel 'n' Griddle is DElicious! I went there after a 12-mile run & I'm glad I did. It was a great post run meal. The menu isn't vegetarian friendly; but they readily subbed meats for portobello mushrooms without hesitation. Their quesadillas ("crisps") arent bad, chicken was not well seasoned but not dry either. Some pieces of my chicken and spinach crisp were much tastier than others, so consistency wasnt great. The sauce served with it was a bit overwhelming but better than expected. The seasoned wedge fries on the other hand were cold and soft. Not good at all. I miss Hansel!! My girlfriend's house was right across the street from Hansel, so we ate there probably once a week. I'm not a huge egg fan, so I never ordered the breakfast food really (although, I've tried my girlfriend's and they do have potential). I really enjoyed Hansel for lunch and dinner food. The buffalo chicken wrap is great. You need to order the potato wedges, they're excellent. The potato salad is good as well (they run out though). I never had a good experience with the "crisps" so I'd probably avoid those. The girls in their house also l o v e d the smoothies, but I never had one. There is minimal seating (2 or 3 bar stools inside, 2 maybe 3 tables outside) so grab your stuff to go. read more

I've been going to Hansel since 2007 back when I was a freshman at RU (And they were on Mine st). The location has changed but the food has stayed more or less the same. Prices - Have gone up over the years but have always stayed pretty reasonable. You'll be paying $10-$12 for a dish, pasta salad, and a drink. Smoothies are $5 which is relatively standard, Service - This is where the "-1 star" is coming from. As much as I want to give Hansel a 5, they consistently screw up basic instructions. If you have any "Extra X, No X, X on the side" type of instructions, be sure to check your food. In addition, there have been many occasions when I come in, there is one person at the counter answering a call in order while 4 people stand behind the counter talking and not helping me. This is NOT a knock on the owner, as Hansel is always well staffed, it's simply a reflection on the actual people working there. I get it guys, it's a college job, but put in some effort please. Food - My *one* complaint about the food is that as a fan of roast beef, the roast beef they use here is just terrible. Besides that, there is a long list of high quality menu items. My personal favorites: (Crisps are basically quesadillas) -Breakfast Crisp w/ Bacon -Buffalo Chicken Crisp -Cheesesteak Wrap -Sundried tomato chicken pesto panini -Chicken cheese popper (The last two are "specials" but they have them often enough that I felt it appropriate to list them) In addition, THE BEST pasta salad in the area, no question.
