The sushi here is very creative and delicious! We ordered the calamari and two rolls. One was baked salmon and the other had mint. They were both very fresh and came out quickly. The ambiance is adorable and is right in downtown Laguna.

I'm a total sushi girl at heart, so finding new spots to try is always a win. We were wandering around Laguna and stumbled on this adorable little sushi place. The staff was super friendly and genuinely personable, like they actually enjoy getting to know the people who stop in. The sushi was fresh, had great variety, and hit the spot perfectly. If you're in the area and craving some rolls or just a quick, tasty bite, this place is absolutely worth a visit.

My New Year's Day tradition of exploring a new sushi spot led me to this incredible, historic gem in Laguna Beach! From the moment Jesse greeted us with such warmth, I knew it was special. Chef Toshi recommended the salmon lemon roll (with asparagus) for my favorite fish, and it was perfection! They even made a custom handroll flawlessly. The place is spotless, and the original 1989 murals add so much character (sorry, got distracted, no pics!). This spot has been here 42 years, and I'll definitely be returning for more tranquility in this favorite coastal spot!

Service- 4/5 Friendly and polite staff and prompt service (we were the only people on the restaurant around 8pm Sunday) Ambiance- 3.5/5 Cute and clean, menu on whiteboard is a bit sloppy and hard to read Wish they had a separate nigiri sushi and sashimi menu The straw roofs sort of give it a Hawaiian vibe Food- 3/5 Miso soup- 4/5 Delicious and decent portion, wish it had more tofu and seaweed in it though Got the sashimi sampler- tuna salmon and yellowtail Tuna was the best but salmon and yellowtail were mediocre 3/5 Tekka maki- 5/5 Ikura- 4/5 I'd return, it's a nice casual spot in Laguna beach. Decent quality fish, good service, not amazing but not bad. Good for the overall price point!

best sushi i've ever had definitely best sushi in laguna! please go if you can everything is excellent !

We've been coming here since our daughter was born in 2018 and now we're back with two kids still eating the best sushi in all of Laguna beach. Everything is fresh and presented beautifully. The 49 special is a must order along with the Toro and Hirame 2pcs. Today I tried the new Kaya roll and was amazed by its flavor and perfect sear to the salmon- also a must order! If you're at the beach and craving some amazing sushi at a home style boutique restaurant, please visit Hapi Sushi! The service is a 10/10- they're so accommodating and welcoming from the first step in the door. You will have this place in your monthly rotation like us and we're driving from Irvine. Enjoy!

They need…read moreto update the pics with menus - very outdated as far as prices are concerned - and that's not an accident. Most cocktails are $19'ish +/-. Gosh, that's high for weakish drinks. I was there for Happy Hour (3-6 PM). I requested my drink ($13 for H. Hour) to go easy on the ice; yet, it was PACKED with ice to the point I had to really PUSH my straw down through all the ice. If the ice had been removed, I imagine the remaining liquid would be about 1/3 of a cup of liquid. That's ludicrous. And, it was weak, to add insult to injury. I ordered the Mushi Shrimp with lettuce leaves. The top 3 leaves were limp. ALL the leaves were torn, making it difficult to hold the ingredients rolled up inside. Each bite resulted in the ingredients spilling out onto the plate or table - a sloppy mess. I would guesstimate that they used two shrimp, chopped up into pieces - I only once detected the flavor or texture of the (presumed) shrimp. The overall flavor wasn't too bad, once I asked for Hoisin Sauce, normally ALWAYS served with this dish. The "crispy" noodles served with it were stale with very little crunch. Often in many restaurants these are fried in the morning and by evening they are stale with a very dull crunch. Why do they all continue to do this? I was given a piece of a salmon roll or maybe it's a salmon "salad" on the inside, she wasn't sure what fish was on the outside. That "salad" was dry! Just overall very disappointing. $40 for 'mediocre' ... shouldn't be. I think too much has been made in advance and no one is checking on the output.

This was my second time visiting, specifically to get the Laguna Heat roll. It is easily one of my favorite rolls ever, and honestly, I'll keep coming back just for that. However, I found the rest of the sushi menu to be a bit of a mixed bag. For such a wonderful location, I was expecting everything to be top-tier, but several of the other options we tried felt a little "mid." We went for my husband's birthday and, since we didn't have a reservation, they were able to seat us at the bar. We decided to treat the sushi like an appetizer and ordered two of the Laguna Heat rolls to start. After finishing those, we strolled right over to Broadway by Amar Santana--which is conveniently located just across the street--to finish our celebration. I'll definitely return for that specific roll, but I might stick to using it as a delicious starting point before heading elsewhere for the full meal.

Chef Miki Izumisawa is the only female sushi chef I know of to this day, and still consider her one of my heroes. She is an artist at heart, getting inspiration from nature to create unique nigiri, cut rolls and hand rolls. She has trained more female sushi chefs to execute her masterpieces, and it's really awesome to see these bad ass women challenging Japanese gender norms! Traditional nigiri run about $7, whereas, fusion nigiri are priced around $8, so I suggest trying fusion pieces, which are thoughtfully crafted with house-made sauces and flavorful garnishes. I recently came with four friends around 5pm and was graciously seated outside. We each ordered the Sexy Hand Roll and a cut roll to share and that seemed to be enough. We also tried the Toro Fusion nigiri, Tuna Fusion nigiri with spicy miso and chili paste as well as a recommended appetizer of seared albacore and a delicious gingery, garlicky sauce. Each bite of everything had umami, texture, fragrance, and beauty, playing with all our senses. The restaurant is teeny tiny, and only open from 4:30-8:30pm, so I recommend arriving when they open or make a reservation 24 hours in advance. Note that they only take reservations at 5pm though. Street parking is metered and a bit pricey and challenging being close to Main Laguna, but so worth the hassle!

The food was so phenomenal, I cannot believe it! We got a lot of items, such as the sashimi platter, the sunset roll, and the geisha roll. The sunset roll has got to be my favorite of the rolls, it was so yummy! Slightly spicy and citrusy from the lemon garnish. To put it simply: this is the kind of place Laguna has been missing. From the moment we walked in, the energy felt dialed-in in a way that immediately reminded me of a Hillstone experience -- polished but not pretentious, lively but still intimate. That balance is incredibly hard to execute, and Nix nails it. For context, I'm part owner of 230 Forest Avenue, so I don't say this lightly: Nix easily lands in my top five in Laguna Beach. We started with Aperol spritzes (perfectly balanced, not overly sweet), along with a couple of appetizers -- including a fried asparagus dish that was addictive in the best way. Crisp, flavorful, and gone way too quickly. For mains, I ordered the veggie burger, which was genuinely one of the best I've had -- hearty, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully constructed (not an afterthought, which vegetarian options so often are). My boyfriend had the noodle salad, which was fresh, vibrant, and layered with flavor. But beyond the food, what really stood out was the overall experience. The atmosphere feels intentional , great music, beautiful crowd, and a buzz that makes you want to linger. It's the kind of place where dinner effortlessly turns into drinks, and drinks turn into "should we just stay a little longer?" Laguna Beach doesn't have a ton of restaurants that hit this level across the board -- food, service, ambiance, and energy, but Nix absolutely does. We'll be back, and soon.
