Baby Chile verde burrito minus a bite, chips and hot sauc

After trying different restaurants for a great burrito in my neighborhood; I drove the 8 miles to Happy Burrito. And now I'm Happy. I got the baby chile verde burrito with pinto beans and rice. In fact I bought THREE. It's the tortilla that makes Happy's the Best. It melts in your mouth. The owner and one employee were still there. There's no dine in now and you order at the door. I've been going to Happy since 1973. Then I could eat a Happy burrito which is at least three times the size of the baby.

A friend recommended this as it is a good value for the area. It is take out only and they do have lots of options to pick from. I had the beef happy nachos and it was ok flavor wise nothing too exciting. I do see quite a bit of people coming while waiting for my food. The wait was short and food came pretty fast.

    Ground beef enchilada plate.

Ordered the ground beef enchilada plate which comes with one enchilada, rice and beans. Total was $9.35. The good: Food was piping hot and freshly made. The mole sauce on the enchilada was delicious and the flavors came together really well on the plate. The not-so-good: The ground beef was OILY as heck. As soon as I cut the enchilada with my fork, oil came running out and it was a large pool of oil. I'll try the steak or chicken enchilada next time I go.

Super taco..one tiny taco is under all the lettuce, chips, cheese and other side toppings

Over the past 4 years I've vouched for this restaurant even with their up and down reviews from others. Today will officially be the last time I spend money with this place. The one thing that kept me coming back was the prices. I knew I could get a good amount of food that was tasty for a pretty cheap price. Recently, they've gone up on everything (yes I do understand inflation is crazy these days) so that incentive is gone. The old women who work there have gradually gotten ruder and ruder as well (yes Julia and sisters, I'm talking about ALL of you). But after spending $23 on two super tacos for them to be super tiny and surrounded by chips and lettuce, and being denied a refund..they've lost a customer completely

Absolutely love Happy Burrito. The staff is always super friendly, they crank out incredible burritos hella fast. Never had to wait for more than a few minutes even if there was a line. Just a small little storefront to order from. Easy to just park right in front and keep an eye on your car. Easily my favorite burrito spot in the bay. 10 stars.

I always get salsa on the side( its spicy).I grew up on this place. One of the few places I can get a good breakfast burrito. Eggs are fluffy and not scrabled to hard.Always filling. I have never had a bad experience.over the 30+ years coming here. The ladies are nice. I do miss the black gentleman that used to take the orders, he was alittle old when I was younger. The only thing I wish they did was fresh cilantro and onion. Over all a great burrito spot. At the moment dine in isn't available. Only take out. They have a whole dining area . But covid shut that down. Hopefully the dining area will be open soon. My personal favs: Breakfast burrito Tostada Flautas Nachos ( they use real cheese not natcho cheese) Happy burrito with shredded chicken

    Two taco dinner

I've been going to Happy Burrito restaurant since I was in high school. My favorite items on the menu is the taco combo dinner and burritos. The staff is basically family at this point. I use to enjoy dinning there which was so nice. After COVID, the restaurant only offers take out now.

If your looking for take out Mexican food for under $10 for any item on their menu ($6 for a regular burrito) then this is the place to go. Next door has burritos for $15 which is way more than I'm comfortable spending. The burritos, tacos, and quesadillas are all fabulous. Grilled chicken is my favorite. Their spicy salsa is super good.

Happy Burrito that fell apart from a bad Wrap!

This place has let me down three times on their inconsistent burritos! They are always loose & falling apart! Too many beans & less meat, tomatoes cut so big you can use it for a salad! Scared to put cheese, sour cream & guacamole in their "Happy Burrito"...Let me add that they Do Not know how to Roll a Burrito! This place was Happy in the late 80's & 90's. Keep patronizing a place that derives off of money & not the quality of your food!

Happy Burrito - pretty much describes me in two words, hohoho. Although, I'm a little upset as I used to live 3 blocks from this place and never knew about it! I guess that's a sign of a true hole in the wall. So this might sound strange, but I feel like a test of a good Mexican restaurant is the rice & beans. And Happy Burrito's rice & beans are spot on! But there are many other things to love, including all-meat burritos; good char flavor on the carne asada; spicy brown salsa (albeit a tad salty); and a variety of non-standard quick service menu items including chimichangas, flautas, and enchiladas. While the burritos will be my go-to, I'm sure I'll try everything on the menu in due time. And why I'm so certain of this is that nearly everything on the menu is $8 or less, including the dinner plates. While the burritos are on the smaller side (which I kind of like, less risk of food coma), the prices are pretty unbelievable for the area and will definitely have me coming back for more

We ordered the duck carnitas, summer tamales, and kids' quesadilla, along with the roasted beats and a strawberry agua fresca and horchata. I cannot enumerate all of the amazing elements and flavors in this meal, but I can say that the crispy outside of the duck and the ease with which it fell apart drew a connection between duck confit and carnitas that changed the way I will think about both. The hearty masa in the tamales had a the texture of hand ground corn and was substantial enough to warrant chewing though. The beet -- tender and flavorful in itself -- was paired with a nutty, spicy mole like a thick paste, bright with its herbs. The agua fresca was a summertime blast of fruit. Yes, yes. All of the food is delicious and amazing. But what takes the restaurant over the top is that the food is comforting and familiar in equal measure to its inventiveness and flawless execution. The prices on the menu are $5-10 more than the menu on their website. It's a nice dining room, but very loud and the piped-in music makes it worse: I couldn't hear what my date was saying across the table. We started with the smoked trout tostadas. This is kind of ceviche style, and they were delicious. These are "street taco" sized tostadas by the way. The portion was OK but for $20 it could've been a bit more substantial. The duck mole: the duck was nicely unctuous and cooked amazingly, but very salty. The mole had the consistency and taste of hummus. Needless to say it was thick, gloopy and tasted only of cumin. The little salad on the plate was plastered in it. The grilled swordfish Valencia style was just an overly sour salsa verde with a couple chopped green olives with the fish sitting in the watery liquid. The salsa had a kick, but tasted mostly of lime, it was also cold. The swordfish however was grilled perfectly and the portion was great--for $35 I'm glad it was. Beans and rice seemed an overly salty afterthought, and if you don't want beans, too bad, it's served in the same bowl as the rice. The service was almost non-existent--no one checked in on us or asked how things were; there seemed to be only one person taking orders in the dining room and three-four people running around. Our appetizer plates sat in front of us for 15 mins, so when the entrees arrived the runner had a hard time clearing the table and simultaneously putting down the entrees. We didn't see our server again until the end when she gave us the check. Suddenly the charm came on when the tip came up. I appreciate what they're doing, but for that price point there are far better options.
