Cute restaurant. Super aesthetic. Food is good. Came here with my two kids and we ate on the patio. This restaurant is not super kid friendly. I could tell the staff was not too enthused. Visited Happy Camper before a Cubs game, the vibes in this place were good and the service was pretty good overall for them being busy before the game. However the food here sucks. We ordered the pizza, elote dip, burger, potato skins etc. NOTHING had solid flavor. Even the burger was plain and blah overall for a smash burger which usually (ordered elsewhere) would have a ton of flavor. Nothing sticks out as like a must try item. This place is a lot of fun. You could easily spend hours here grazing on appetizers and having cocktails. This would be the ideal place to do some day drinking in Wrigleyville and enjoy the company of some friends or make new ones there. They have an indoor and outdoor seating area, which makes an otherwise dark bar a fun and inviting place. They have disco balls throughout and it very much feels like a party no matter where you're sitting. Ask your server the recommended cocktails as there's several Chicago favorites you should try. We made reservations, but they may not be necessary depending on what day you go. On weekends this place can get pretty busy with large groups that stay for quite some time so plan accordingly if you have a group bigger than a few people. FYI, the bathrooms are in the basement and I don't know if there's an elevator, but just be aware. We will absolutely come back when we visit again. read more

My friends and I came here today for dinner and it was the best experience I've had at Happy Camper. I've gone here quite often because their pizzas are very good but what stood out today was our server, Devonte (I'm sorry if misspelled his name but he was wearing an *NSYNC shirt). He was so attentive and he was always filling up our drinks and drink orders when he sees our glasses getting low. As for food, they have one of my favorite salads - The Wells Salad (with Blackened Chicken, hold the onions). This place was okay. I wouldn't say to avoid it, but I also wouldn't say to go out of your way to visit. The vibe and atmosphere of the place is really cool. The indoor/outdoor dining room does feel like you're having a cool camping experience. The lighting and decor are very inviting and fun, and the place is nice to sit in. The only issue I have is with the music. It's fine that it's loud, but the content of the music is way offensive. F-bombs, n-words, and all the other four letter words unabashedly. We had heard this place was okay for kids, and with our three year old with us, the music was way off-putting. The waitress' service was great. She was extremely friendly and helpful, and was very aware of our experience and knew before we asked what we needed. She brought our son a booster seat without our asking, had our drinks and order placed promptly, and was proactive with the issues we had. Anticipating a customer's needs is service 101, but it's a lost art that seems to have been brought back with her. The beer menu is long, but sadly it was mostly IPAs, and the only craft beer on tap I wanted was sold out. I hate that. The pizza was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it was certainly not worth what we paid for it. It was just pizza. It wasn't groundbreaking, wasn't unique or special in any way. It was just pizza, maybe slightly better than Domino's. It also took 40 minutes to come out. I think there was an issue in the kitchen with our order, because our appetizer came out pretty quickly (we got mozzarella bread, which contrary to the pizza was amazing. We should've just stuck with that), and our waitress was genuinely upset for us that our pizza took so long to come out. Anyways. I'd just say the pizza is overpriced for what you get. They need more variety on their draft beer menu besides IPAs. And with the music, they certainly aren't good for kids (despite having high chairs and booster seats). There's something about their crust that keeps me coming back. It's perfect thickness, just the right amount of chew and softness and holds up the toppings of the pizza without completely falling apart. I've had their more simple pies and most recently the Ed. The toppings itself wasn't anything astounding - to be honest their roast chicken was pretty bland which was disappointing as its the one place where Happy Camper could shine. They do have a nice outdoor set up for the entire restaurant - some service workers aren't wearing their masks - unsure if it's due to open air or their current mask policy but overall it's a breezy open aired place. Pick up was an easy process and took about 20 minutes for them to make the pizza. Prices are a little on the high side but ingredients do taste fresh and left me satisfied. My partner and I loved this place! Happy Camper is operating safely and efficiently. They do temperature checks and sanitizing before you're seated. The tables are spaced a good distance apart and they aren't using menus. We were seated at a table right next to the bar and the bartender was very nice and attentive, the other waitstaff were on their A game as well. Empty dishes never lingered for long and everyone was polite. As far as food and drink go - YES. I ordered the peppermint mocha cocktail. It was warm and cute and WAY stronger than one might assume (but in a good way). My partner got the Trashy Tea and a Mule and they were both great and refreshing. I'm used to places like this having lackluster food but the pizza we ordered was seriously SO good. We had leftovers that were still yummy this morning. We also had some mozzarella bread sticks that was so cheesy and delicious. If you're going to get drinks and a light bite to share - the mozzarella bread is a great choice. Theres more than enough to share and they're lightly filling. As far as atmosphere goes, this place is very well done decoratively speaking. It very well designed and very "instagram-able". There are also TV's in every square inch of this place that I'm sure are awesome for sports games. I think they did an even better job with their Christmas decor than Santa Baby did this year. There is a two hour limit and an 18% service charge that you should be aware of. We knew about the time limit but were surprised when we got the check and saw the service fee. We were completely okay with it though, everything and everyone was great so it was worth it for us. Overall - if you're thinking about coming here, DO IT. You won't regret it. read more

I've been to the Happy Camper in Old Town, but this was my first visit to the Wrigleyville location. They have some really cool space inside! We sat on the back patio, which almost looks like you're indoors because it seems enclosed, but the roof is open. It's got some neat chandeliers hanging from the trees above, and lots of bulb lights hanging. Overall, a very neat environment! During COVID, you have to wear your mask when interacting with employees, and I was glad to see most customers abiding by this without making too much of a fuss about it. We started with the elotes dip, which was INCREDIBLE! It had cream cheese, corn, and pico, and was served with delightfully salty tortilla chips. The only improvement would be some lime wedges to squeeze on top, otherwise this was awesome. Then we shared a Sesame Soy salad, which was also great. Lots of different textures (wontons, crispy cabbage, red peppers), made this a really refreshing and delicious salad. Finally, we had the Rich pizza, which was their take on a chicken-bacon-ranch pizza. This was excellent also, but I think would have been better with the ranch drizzled AFTER cooking, rather than before. It was a little weird eating hot ranch dressing. Their crust is really tasty, too. Definitely great to scoop up remaining elote dip! The only reason I took off a star is that the service was pretty lacking. Our server just kinda wandered around and didn't check on us often. She didn't seem particularly busy, just didn't make it to our table. I had to ask a busser for more water twice, and we waited about 10 minutes from the time we were done to get a box and the check. She just seemed kinda disinterested in being there. Reason for the one star is because this restaurant has HIDDEN FEES. We ordered a "make your own pizza" and they charged extra for every topping added. We talked to the manger why it didn't state additional costs in the menu. They used what felt like a cop-out and stated that every pizza restaurant charges extra for any toppings, so they didn't feel a need to mention that in the menu. What really had me surprise is that we had ordered a bucket, and usually that is the flat rate of that the menu said $30. NOT TRUE, they charged an extra $2 per type of beer you order. We did ask the manager why did we get charged extra when other bars just charge for the bucket. Apparently (NOT LISTED IN THE MENU) there are certain beers that get charged extra even tho it's on the list on beers to add on the bucket. We ordered Modelo, Corona, & Stella Artois. In this economy I would like to go out to eat and not stress out about hidden charges. They should put what's extra and how much or inform the servers to tell the customer what to expect. read more

My friends and I went to Happy Camper in Wrigley last night (COVID season) and were fortunate enough to have an absolute legend as our waiter, Matt. Hilarious, charismatic, top notch service, brought us special mix shots, what more could you want? He was always dropping by our table serving us a good laugh or two. My heart skipped a beat when he would come by, I miss him already... Yeah food was fine, classic Happy Camper pizza, but Matt and his 12/10 service made our night. I really enjoy this sister group of restaurants, largely because of the atmosphere. Happy camper is a pretty large restaurant and you're able to sit pretty far from people to feel relatively safe in a COVID world. I find that their food is solid, with some items hitting really hard and other being meh. I looooove the jalapeño homies, which really sell themselves, and I enjoy the meatball pizza (Chris pizza). Their drinks are fun but it's a more pricey night out if you're trying to get a good buzz. All in all, a nice option to watch sports and gather with friends for apps and drinks. read more
