Very fun atmosphere and worth coming to if you're in Chicago. Pizza is amazing and they even offer a gluten free AND vegan crust option - SCORE!! We of course ordered this version! Fun signs on the wall and super casual. Plenty of seating indoors or outdoors. We came here for brunch and it was pretty busy. Started with their Bloody Mary (a bit spicy) but you get a cold slice of pizza and a Michelada with it. I also ordered a Trailer Park Queen which was just as good! My college roommate suggested to check this place out and I was not disappointed! I got the bean dip and the Tony pizza. The bean dip was good. It was basic in my opinion and nothing too special. But the Tony pizza though!! I fell in love! There is a very strong balsamic vinegar flavor to this pizza but I love balsamic so this was incredible! Never thought balsamic on pizza would taste good but boy was I wrong! The waiter was the one who recommended that I get the Tony pizza and I'm glad I listened! The pizza crust was delicious as well! I'm not exactly sure how much garlic was on the pizza, but it was enough to fool my tastebuds into thinking I was eating garlic bread instead of pizza crust! So I was very happy with the pizza! Definitely recommend it to meat lovers who also love balsamic and garlic! The place was also really pretty/cute! Okay - now that I don't eat pizza often anymore, I actually appreciate the Happy Camper. Came here 2x in 2 weeks and we all liked the food both times. The pizzas are generously topped. Made a reservation on OpenTable (because phase 3 ya know?) and it went very smoothly! Our table was ready when we got there, our server was great, and everything came out relatively quick which is important now because you only have a 2 hour time limit at the table. With all that being said the Jalapeno Homies were great to snack on and our drinks were all good. If I could rate this experience negative stars, I would. This establishment is a disgrace to pizza places everywhere including Papa Johns on South Loop where you can hear the gunshots. It was recently my army friend's 32nd birthday and she wanted to celebrate her special day with friends over some food and drinks. Instead, what she got was disrespect and a cold shoulder from the staff. We had a reservation but were instead seated outdoors in 40F degree weather with moderate precipitation. When we requested to sit inside due to the UNSAFE weather conditions (i.e. rough winds, a girl walking on the pavement almost slipped and fell), the staff was dismissive and ignored our request for a safe dining environment. All of us were seated on soaked benches. After shivering for 15 minutes, we were then served food drenched in Chicago rain water. The guac was flavorful and the pizza seemed tasty but both were difficult to fully enjoy due to rain falling down upon our plates. The only reprieve of the night was the sweet waiter who served our food and drinks. This is truly unacceptable. What does it take for your customers to be seated indoors? A tornado? A category IV hurricane? I hope Happy Camper does some deep reflection about their business practices. NO ONE is happy. read more

THIS PIZZA is SO GOOD. I ordered the Tony pizza with prosciutto, basil, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelized onions, goat cheese with a balsamic drizzle. First, the crust is crisp on the outside and so so fluffy on the inside. One of my favorite pizza crusts. Next, the pizza topping combination was so flavorful and melded so nicely. We also got the Trixie salad which was HUGE. Romaine lettuce bed topped with red onions, cucumbers, red peppers, crouton, cheddar cheese topped with the house ranch. Great starter but enough for like 4-5 people, the 2 of us could barely make a dent. Our server was so friendly. Awesome brunch spot! We went on a Saturday morning and there was quite a wait, but no worries because we took a seat on some tire swings at the bar and ordered some drinks. We started with their Hangover Coffee and it was so great we each had a 2nd round. Once we finally got a table we switched over to Bloody's (I love when they come with a sidecar of Miller High Life!). These were very tasty as well. When determining which amazing brunch option to choose I was completely stumped, therefore a friend and I ordered two things and split them. We got the Breakfast Za and Chicken & Waffles. Both were mouthwateringly delicious! Other members in our group got the Pulled Pork Hash and Breakfast Burrito Calzone. I got to try a few bites of each and both were spectacular! You really cannot go wrong with the brunch menu here. We will definitely be back next time we are in Chicago and maybe even rent a camper to sit in! read more

If you are not into the big noise room and communal tables, there are tiny booths in a quiet room to the side. Service was great; from hostess, to waiter, to busser. There's an enormous amount of crust which tastes pretty wooden. The pizza itself I just don't know. Sort of tasted like a brisket sandwich you'd get at a middle school cafeteria or seniors home. Not great. Waiter was mostly MIA and while some bars have their tv spots and games down to a science these guys don't if you're going for a game. We sat outside on the patio (who can pass up a patio on a breezy 70 degree night?). Service was great, our waiter was charismatic and funny. He gave us advice on picking a pre-chosen pizza or BYO. I ended up ordering the Linda and modifying it -- I got it without mushrooms and onions. It was delightful. The 10 inch size was perfect for a personal pizza. It had exactly the right amount of bites and I didn't leave *too* full. One more bite and it would've been too much. Perfect size! The garlic and oil combination was amazing, the garlic wasn't too overwhelming and the oil wasn't all over the place. The crust was also perfectly crisp and fluffy in parts. Great drinks, great food and a fun atmosphere! We went here on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. We waited maybe 5-10 minutes and got a table. We were able to go to the bar area and order a drink while we waited. There was a live DJ there playing so many songs from the 90's early 00's, it was tough not to just get up a dance. We at least sang along to quite a few of the songs lol. The food here was great too, we each got a little something different, I got a chicken salad, my fiance got the pizza and then our friend ordered the calzone. All were very very tasty and large portions. I was not able to finish my salad at all but it was very tasty. They have these cool glasses (you can buy them for $5) and we got two. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I can't wait until the weather warms up and sit on their patio. Looking for someplace fun- we whipped open YELP and found this gem. My daughter got a HUGE kick out of the fact that there is an actual CAMPING TRAILER converted to the host stand INSIDE the building! Happy Camper was very HIP- more than what WE are. But we had a great waiter who was funny and nice and played right into the camping theme once she realized we had kids with us. Now mind you- the dinners were mostly 21+ plus BUT it is a restaurant with regular tables, bar tables, and a SUPER FUN-Swing Bar. This bar had rope swing seating all around the counter service in side dining room. ( no picture- I could get a clear one). So to the FOOD; the pizza was AMAZING!!! We do live in CHICAGO, so to have a good pizza other than deep-dish is pretty impressive. The crust was thin, bubbly, crusty, and chewy all in one. The sauce was so nice- creamy and not chunky, flavored just right. The toppings were portioned correctly, no piece was left bald. Came here for a girls night out on a Thursday evening - and it was such a great choice! We loved the ambiance, the service, the drinks, and of course the pizza! On a Thursday evening we had to wait about 20-30 minutes to be seated, but we were able to hang out at the bar while we waited. We ordered some cocktails, which were made very well - not too strong, not too sweet. We each ordered our own personal sized pizza. One of the managers delivered my pizza and immediately told me they would be bringing another one since he didn't like the appearance.. I thought it looked perfectly fine!! Happy camper is an Old Town staple. The pizza is absolutely delicious. I have been there multiple times and leave with a happy stomach every time! The wait can be really long if you go on a Friday or Saturday night. It doesn't bother me because I go expecting around a 2 hour wait and am fine with waiting at the bar until our table is ready. The atmosphere is very chill and the decor so random that it doesn't seem like it should work but it somehow does. The first thing that you see is when you walk in is the front of a trailer. I am such a fan of this fun restaurant for its food and its ambiance. I tried the Matcha Mama drink, Wells salad, and the small Josh pizza. The Matcha Mama cocktail was so interesting and did not even tasted like alcohol. The mix of lemonade, matcha and vodka was refreshing. The Wells Street salad is great for sharing and is a nice appetizer to clean the palate before digging into this restaurant's delicious pizza. It features mixed greens, mandarin oranges, avocado, bacon bits, onions, gorganzola and a lemon poppy seed dressing and is just so refreshing to have. The Josh pizza had pulled pork, pineapples, jalapeños and BBQ sauce with a soft but crunchy crust. It was so moist and delicious and unlike many pizzas that I have eaten so far. It was so good and I am quite surprised by how much I liked it given pizza is not typically something I like. If you come here, you have to get the pizza! Not only is food good, the ambiance is so fun and vibrant. The restaurant is large with so many tables inside and also outside seating. There are a lot of TVs inside for all the sports fans to watch their games. The inside is vibrant with popular songs being featured on the nice stereo system. Happy camper ACTUALLY makes me a happy camper. There I said it. But seriously, I've tried probably one of every pizza on their menu and it's amazing. My favorite has to be the Peter and the Tim. I also ALWAYS get jalapeño homies because I love spicy food and bacon and cream cheese, so it's basically a match made in heaven. Yesterday, they didn't treat my party well at all. We placed a call to simply ask how busy they were, we were put on an immediate hold and were never taken off hold again. It was 25+ minutes. Ridiculous. Then when we got to the restaurant and told them about this they simply brushed it off saying they don't really attend to phone calls. Then we put our name in for a table and weren't even given a waiting time estimate. We waited there for 3 quarters of the Bears game. I understand that they were busy and there's mostly nothing they can do, but the lack of updates was frustrating. Once we were finally seated, our waitress Carla made us feel unimportant. She took drink orders quickly and with haste. Then she was quite rude when we were trying to describe a custom order. "Honestly I don't know what you're trying to do"... odd. And then she would bring drinks and leave table immediately before we could even get another word in to order other things. All in all, she weren't served to our level of expectation. She also made some odd comment about not meaning to stare at us that was really strange. With that being said, all my issues were about the level of service. The food is phenomenal. The mozzarella breadsticks are incredible. All the pizzas we got were amazing, and we gladly took home the leftovers! I got the Tim and the Grandma (we added bacon to it). They were amongst the best pizzas we've ever had. Then, they did have a nice birthday gesture for my friend who was celebrating his birthday. In summary: food is great and the service needs a lot of UPDATE: staff responded to me directly and have shown that this is not their normal service level. Great atmosphere, very club like on a Sunday brunch hour. The service was fast and our server was nice. For appetizers we got the fries which they came with a delicious house made dip and we also ordered Buffalo wings and OMG, best wings my bf and I have had, so fresh with the perfect crisp and sauce. We ate a medium sausage and pepperoni and a small chicken and jalapeño, so delicious for both!! 10/10 the cyst was crunchy and dough tasted so good, the sauce was the right taste and amount and the toppings were generously applied so so good. We had a couple of drinks, both delicious as well, I got the feeling cute one, not too sweet which I loved. And then we got the hangover cure for dessert and it hit the spot, so cold delicious coffee with rum and vodka I believe and creamer and a sweet cinnamon donut. This is the hoppin place to be in Old Town for obvious reasons, it's just so fun! The drinks, the lights, the music....what an experience. Came here a few times for a pre-going out dinner with drink and another time for a birthday dinner. All fun experiences! Very crowded on weekends which isn't a surprise, but then again don't be shocked to wait 45 minutes for a table for 4. Loved that my waitress wasn't shocked when I asked if they had honey for my pepperoni pizza (try and thank me later). Very creative menu options as well!
