One of my favorite places to get fried chicken and one of the best deals in town! This place is nothing like popeyes or gus' or nashville style hot chicken, it's a different kind of falvor on it's own and hard to describe. They fry to order, the chicken is juicy, and the breading is perfectly crunchy. Best deal here is the 4pc meal deal which comes with one side, pita (closer to a tortilla), and garlic sauce. Not to downplay the rest of the meal, but this is probably one of my favorite garlic sauces. I could just eat their pita and garlic sauce for a whole meal. As for the sides, my usual go-to is the mac and cheese bites or fried okra. The mac and cheese bites are pretty much fried triangles of mac and cheese. I mostly come here for the fried chicken, but the wings are also pretty good. The halal hot isn't too hot personally, and I do like the garlic parm and curry flavors too. Again, garlic dip and/or creamy jalapeno dip for these. All in all, my experience is usually good here, but sometimes my order is wrong (usually the side), but the staff and owners are friendly and are happy to correct the orders. Order ahead to avoid waiting, or wait ~15-20min for your order to be made. Definitely give this place a try as it's been one of my go-to fried chicken places. read more

I went to this chicken wings joint expecting oh just the typical average chicken wings but boy was I blown away! They offer boneless and bone in chicken wing. Of course, I got both 6 pieces each. They allow you to pick up to 2 flavors per chicken wings order. You can add a dipping sauce for additional 0.50 cent charge. They have plenty of flavors for chicken wings as well as dipping sauces. I tried the halal hot, mexican, honey bbq and buffalo sauce with creamy jalapeño dip. My favorite were halal hot and buffalo sauce. Their chicken wings were sooooo juicy, full of flavor, and have the perfect amount of crunch when you take a bite. Mmmm mmm! Their service was alright. The cashier seemed a bit out of it but the lady who brought us our food was super nice so that made up for the eccentric vibes I felt when I placed my order lol The place is spacious and you can eat with friends or family there. This place used to be my absolute number one for wings in years past, but my latest order (while they were friendly, and made it fast and hot) tasted and smelt unusual in a way that's hard to explain but the best I can describe it as is "wrong", perhaps metallic or like the copper pipe taste of a blue cheese (my wings were supposed to be lemon and halal original, nothing with any cheese, but they both had a weird aftertaste and smell). It also had an awful chewy texture so the few wings I tried to just eat and ignore the flavor for hunger sake but barely 1/2 of the meat that was chewable/edible and the skin was mostly too rubber or too crispy (often on the same wing) to consume - it felt like they were cooked very unevenly or possibly under a heat lamp for too long. I didn't call to ask for a replacement or refund because I was too tired to go through that and needed to source a meal before bed, so that's part is on me - I don't know if they would have made it right or not. I've been here a few times and I just really love the portions of the sides when I get the combos. The fries are delicious. The wings are nice and crispy and the flavors are good. I will say the Cajun flavor is not a dry rub, so just letting y'all know. Service is nice and quick. I like to go here for lunch on my break. Prices are really good too. My husband and I are always on the search for good halal food and often times it's quite far away, this place was conveniently located near a Starbucks. We ordered 10 pieces of bone in wings, garlic Parmesan and Buffalo. Both were delicious and the jalapeño and garlic sauces were to die for! I don't know how they tweaked the Buffalo sauce but it was so good, only wish they added more as the wings felt a little dry and could have used some sauce on top. Been a year since we last ate here so it's definitely been a while. The spicy fried chicken was made to order so there was a small wait but appreciated how fresh it was. The skin was nicely seasoned and crunchy and the meat moist and tender. It tasted better than I remembered actually! The fries were pretty good too. I switched out the garlic sauce for creamy jalapeno and ranch and and that turned out to be a good choice. The pita given separates Halal Wings from the other fried chicken spots. My husband and I were craving wings and wanted to support a local business. I had been eyeing Halal wings since we moved to this side of town so it was perfect. I had done my research prior to ensure what sauces would be gluten and dairy-free. I have an intolerance and I wanted to make sure my body didn't pay for it later. My husband and I both ordered 6 bone-in wings apiece. I got the Halal hot and he got the curry. Note, the wings are smothered in sauce and the extra sauce tends to fall to the bottom. Once you bring the wings home, flip them over onto the plate to get more of the sauce back onto the wings. Halal hot was a nice good spice. I love spice and don't find most things spicy. The flavor was nice and I had a little glisten of sweat on my face after eating them. My husband's curry wings were just okay. The flavor of the sauce had fallen to the bottom and it was missing on the wings itself. I ended up using his extra wing sauce as a dip later for chips. Let me start off by saying the owner is one of the nicest people I've met in the restaurant business. Local, small business owners are always the best since you can tell they care about the customer experience, check up on you and take care of you during your visit. Lots of smiles too, which is a good reflection of their food :). Normally for fried chicken, I opt for 3 pieces - I find 2 to be a bit too little and 4 to be too much. There's no 3 piece option on the menu but the owner happily whipped it up accordingly for me with a smile. Since it was the first time, I decided to try 2 pieces spicy, 1 piece original since I normally find original chicken at most shops bland, with a side of fried okra. At Halal Wings, dare I say I found the best piece of mild fried chicken in Austin? Halal meat has the saltiness going for it, so it's almost like a natural brine, which translates well in fried chicken world. The chicken is moist, with a perfectly done dry fry - light breading, crispy crust and just enough grease without making you feel bad. The dark meat pieces are large and bronze in color and the light seasoning on the original chicken is almost like a kiss. I really wish I got all my pieces original style since I thought it was exponentially better than the spicy and will definitely do so on the return visits. The spicy is not all that spicy, just a tiny kick so you won't be breaking out in a sweat. The flavor profile is a bit hard to describe though - can't really put my finger on what it is but it's definitely unique. Okra is also well fried and dips well in the garlic sauce. My friend got lemon pepper and original wings with some fries and they looked really good too. The main thing I would advise improvement on is the "pita." It's basically just a tortilla, which I have nothing against but think its a letdown for two reasons: 1) this place is owned by the same awesome folks as Halal Corner, which is one of my favorite Mediterranean restaurants in Austin so I figure getting a real pita would complete the expectations, 2) the tortilla is cold, which does not juxtapose well with the awesome hot fried food. I ended up just skipping the extra carbs but if they warmed up the tortillas on a griddle I don't think I would have minded eating it. The venue is small and cozy, which is similar to many of the restaurants in the area so keep that in mind if you were thinking about bringing a larger group - or just ask for to go and hop to nearby Mueller Park for a picnic. And as for the wait issues in some of the earlier reviews, seems like they got that sorted out as the place was packed tonight and they had to go trays going out the door and we still promptly got our food. Overall Halal Wings is up there with the best chicken shops in Austin and especially at its price point, I'm sure it will have fans for years to come! read more

(I ordered boneless wings from here in the past and didn't care for them that much). I was really pleased with how the tenders turned out and would have eaten more if I wasn't already full from the wings. The spicy fried chicken didn't taste spicy to me. We ordered Halal Wings for takeout this past Saturday. When we called, I placed an order for a 6 piece bone-in with buffalo, 6 piece boneless chinese, and 6 piece boneless cajun. I also said two sides of ranch and one of blue cheese. The person on the phone was a bit rude and brusque and made me repeat myself at least three times. They said it would be 15 minutes. About 17 minutes later, we pulled in and my friend went inside to grab our order. Once he gave them the name they said "oh, has it been 15 minutes already?" and just THEN started preparing the order. So we had to sit and wait at least another 10 minutes while they made it. The bone-in buffalo wings were good. Great light crisping on the skin and the chicken was super moist. The buffalo sauce was mild. The boneless chinese flavor was meh. It was sweet, as expected, but then you wait for that little heat which never came. It actually reminded me a lot of a honey BBQ flavor. And the cajun ones- well just avoid. You couldn't taste ANYTHING except EXTREME SALT. My friend is actually cajun and so he was really disappointed, but as someone who isn't as familiar with cajun taste even I was like, nope, so much salt. The boneless wings in general to me were less great- the sizes of the pieces really varied and were small in general in my opinion for the price. Also, they gave us three ranch and no blue cheese (which was for me), so I was sad about that. Wings were crunchy and very well seasoned. No taste of old oil and the wings were not overly greasy. I really liked the size of the wings, they were not baby wings that you typically get at Wingstop. The sauces: ranch and blue cheese hit the spot. The green salad had some tasty cucumbers and came accompanied by a jalapeño sauce that was worth telling staff that it was "A+". I'm assuming this place is good because it's halal, but if that's not something you need, then I can't recommend this place. Fried pickles were sooo greasy. Half the paper bag was soaked in grease; I've seriously never seen a greasier paper bag in my life! BUT, the saving grace was that aside from how greasy they tasted, they were otherwise not bad. Couldn't finish the entire app because of the greasiness, but was tasty nonetheless. Fries were not noteworthy at all. Mashed potatoes ... looked and tasted like instant mashed potatoes. Seriously, like the kind where you add water to some powder, I was so confused? But also felt ripped off. Not sure if that's actually how they make it, but it has the same quality and taste, so beware. The wings were pretty bad. Aside from everything just being drowned in grease (seriously... what's up with the batter here?), the sauce was also just not good. Everything was so flat in flavor, I was amazed. There was also virtually no distinction between some of the flavors, and the flavors are over-spiced- I felt like my entire body was swollen the next day from how much salt there was in the sauce! Came here because Popeye's was drive thru only and we were too hungry to wait in the long line. Imagine how great it felt after three of us had already ordered and paid and the guy behind the counter decided now is the time to tell us it'll be 30 minutes to get our chicken. Anyways, we waited, got our food, and drove home to eat. When we got home two people in our group realized they hadn't gotten the sides they ordered (3 sides in total) and the "pita" is just a cheap tortilla and we also had some missing the pita. The fried pickles were crispy, but a little to thin for us to taste the actual pickle flavor. The chicken and fries were hot and crispy though so that was nice. I have gotten the boneless wings and also the non boneless, tried curry flavor (my favorite) chinese flavor (super good) and halal hot (really good.) The boneless wings are perfect, the non-boneless are also perfect. The people who run this place are awesome and super nice. Even the dressings are good, they taste home-made. Both the bleu cheese and ranch are legit. They are runny, which is great for chicken wings and coats them very well. The wings are spicy but not too spicy. Halal hot is very spicy, but still not too spicy, perfect balance. So few people do wings well. This place does them well. My only wish is for more flavors. Curry is excellent, I would love some more experimentation along this line. I feel like ya'll could make some crazy middle eastern flavor combinations: zataar? saffron + something else?
