OMG! Happy Fish is one of the best hidden gems I have ever gone to! I only went here for the first time this past weekend, and my husband and I are already planning our next dinner here. To start, the service was absolutely fantastic! Our waitress, Lorena, was wonderful. She was attentive, patient, and efficient. She was knowledgable about all the menu items, and gave us great recommendations. We trusted her recommendations and they did not disappoint! She was also super fast and the food service was fast too. Now to the food - everything was absolutely amazing and 100% authentic, as well as totally affordable for HUGE portions! Lomo de Pollo: I ordered this, and it was SO GOOD! This dish is chicken, onions, and tomatoes on top of fries (sounds odd but it is SO insanely good). The rice on the side was great and I added black beans to it. The flavor of this dish is incredible, garlicky and tangy at the same time. Churrasco: My mother-in-law ordered this, and it was so good that all of us kept asking her for more bites. The steak was cooked to perfection and the chimichurri was flavorful and jazzy. She got to pick two sides, and she got rice and beans (perfect). Chaufa de Mariscos: This dish came highly recommended. It's Peruvian-style fried rice with delicious seafood on top. They gave so much seafood, it was such a great deal! Arroz con Mariscos: This was definitely the biggest dish we got. It was seafood on top of yellow rice, and it was delicious! Lastly, before our food came, the owner (Kevin) came by to ask us how we were doing and ask how the service and experience was. The flavors of their dishes are so bold and unlike anything I've tasted; I truly can't get enough! The Tallarin Verde con Pollo is now one of my favorite pasta dishes; the sauce was creamy with punches of basil, and garlic flavor. I would highly recommend trying it! The Aji de Gallina was also astoundingly good and something I would love to order again. It consists of shredded chicken in a spicy, nutty, cheese sauce and is considered Peruvian comfort food. I have been to Happy Fish twice now and have had wonderful experiences on both visits. I will start with the fabulous food. Everything that I have has been incredible and the portions are such a ridiculous value. I have had ceviche, Lomo Saltado, Chicken Fried Rice, Seafood Fried Rice, Yuca all excellent compared to other local Peruvian restaurants. I have also been to Peru and in comparison I would say the food here is authentic. They also have Peruvian beer! You have to try it! The service was good on both visits. My last visit was on a Saturday evening around 6:30pm. I did not have a reservation and there were four of us. We were seated immediately and served quickly. I would recommend that they add a drink menu as you are just guessing or asking. I was able to get a bottle of wine that was decent but they don't have a wine list to choose from. I had a pretty good experience here. The server was extremely nice and very attentive and the food was really good. The only thing that would've made this four stars is there was a family sitting behind us with a kid that was just going absolutely crazy. The kid was running around and screaming, and then they were in the booth behind us and the kids would not stop kicking or banging on the booth which we shared the other side of it. At this day and age, I'm not entirely sure what we as patrons can do, or what servers can do to request guest to take care of their children - I realize normally you just kind of hope that it chills out but this was extreme. My husband and I have been apart for a month due to business. When I finally came home, he had researched a restaurant where they served ceviche because he knew I loved it so much. We ordered the octopus ceviche, and Daniel asked if we liked it spicy. Which was awesome! We told him to make it as spicy as possible and he even got us extra hot sauce on the side. I personally love octopus but was surprised with the extra crunch it had in their dish. Would definitely love to try the other ceviche they had next time. We ordered the red sangria as well and he asked if it wanted it fruity or strong. Of course we said strong and he did not disappoint on that either. The sangria was absolutely delicious. For our main entrees I ordered the lomo saltado and my husband got the churrasco. The steak was cooked to the perfect temperature my husband ordered. The lomo saltado was packed with so much flavor as well. We were pleasantly surprised with the entire meal so far. To end things off, Daniel listed the desserts and we each ordered one as well. Which was perfect as the desserts were small. It was a great way to end such a wonderful meal. He also remembered the tamale we ordered to go as he mentioned it was a special they had that day. We were given 2 ceviche dishes which were highly delicious! We ordered some PISCO sour For our dishes we ordered the seafood mix and beef and seafood mix. Both were very good! Lots of flavor and a good amount of protein. Overall we left very satisfied With our food, we had enough left overs to take home. The calamari appz and dessert were both scrumptious and would highly recommend getting them! Very flavorful! I thought I updated Happy Fish more recently, but I guess not. Happy Fish was my very first experience with Peruvian food! Now I am hooked on Peruvian food & usually visit a Peruvian restaurant wherever I go. With that, I think Happy Fish is ok. But I do feel that Happy Fish is not as flavorful and does not showcase the amazing taste palate of Peruvian food as other places I have been to. This time around, my hubby ordered the tallarin verde which is green pesto noodles and steak with a potato cut in half. I ordered the tallarin saltado con mariscos. This is lo mein noodles cooked like Lomo Saltado stir fry but instead of beef it is is seafood.'I just don't think the noodles were the best with the sauce. The sauce is too watery for it. Lomo Saltado is better and I like pescado a lo macho. We also had the yuca huaincaina which is fried yuca with huaincaina(yellow sauce) it is also ok, but the sauce is also watery. I've had better. But their service is great. It is best to make a reservation because they are only seating six tables at a time for ideal social distancing. Their menu is also on a link on the table.
