I am seeking assistance regarding concerns we discovered with a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited Denali…read morepurchased from Ross Downing Buick GMC Cadillac in Hammond, Louisiana, on August 9, 2023. The vehicle was represented as GMC Certified Pre-Owned.
After reviewing the vehicle's records more closely, we discovered significant differences between the CARFAX information associated with the sale, a later Experian AutoCheck report, and our purchase documents.
One concern involves the vehicle's mileage. CARFAX shows 26,013 miles on August 4, 2023. Five days later, our purchase agreement, invoice, and signed odometer disclosure state 27,719 miles as the vehicle's actual mileage. The later AutoCheck report contains several different mileage entries and specifically flags the 27,719-mile entry as inconsistent with the reported odometer history. We understand that an inconsistency does not by itself prove an odometer rollback, which is why we are requesting documentation and an explanation of how these records can be reconciled.
We also discovered differences in the reported accident and damage history. The CARFAX provided around the time of the sale identified an August 5, 2022 accident as minor damage involving the front, right side, and right-front of the vehicle, with no airbag deployment reported.
The later AutoCheck information contains additional damage history. An August 10, 2022 entry reports damage or repair involving multiple areas of the truck, including the left and right sides, front and rear, bumper, hood, wheels, radiator, grille, and fender. AutoCheck also contains a January 4, 2023 accident/damage entry characterized as moderate. The later AutoCheck report characterizes the vehicle's overall accident/damage history as moderate.
Because this vehicle was sold as GMC Certified Pre-Owned, these differences have raised questions about what information was available and reviewed when the vehicle was inspected, certified, and ultimately sold.
We have asked for the complete GMC Certified Pre-Owned 172-point inspection and reconditioning documentation, collision/body-repair records, records showing how the mileage was verified, documentation showing what information was reviewed to determine CPO eligibility, and written explanations reconciling the differences between the CARFAX, AutoCheck, and sale documents.
The dealership has stated that it provided a vehicle-history report at delivery, acted in good faith based on the information available, and operated within GM guidelines. The dealership also offered assistance with trading the vehicle. However, we have not received the underlying records or explanations necessary to resolve our concerns.
A trade alone does not explain the mileage discrepancy, the differences in the reported damage history, or how the vehicle qualified for GMC Certified Pre-Owned status. We also do not believe we should suffer a financial loss simply to trade out of a vehicle while these questions remain unresolved.
We are not making unsupported accusations regarding fraud, odometer tampering, or intentional wrongdoing. We are asking for a thorough review of the documented discrepancies, the records supporting the vehicle's certification, and a fair resolution based on the findings.
We have retained the relevant purchase documents, signed odometer disclosure, CARFAX information, AutoCheck information, and correspondence concerning this matter.
At this point, we are simply asking for transparency, documentation, answers, and an appropriate resolution.
