This 700+ strong international hotpot chain finally arrived in Flushing a few months ago to great fanfare! I've only heard good things about this chain, so I was excited to try it out. The space is decorated nice and modern, without too much flair. Everything still has that new-restaurant sheen that I'm sure will get FLUSHING-ed down the toilet given enough time (geddit?), but for now it is clean. But décor aside, the food is the important bit! I am happy to say that the broth was among the best I've had. They seem to offer a pork-based, milky white broth livened up with deep flavors from various herbs and spices including cardamom and ginseng, as well as spicy sichuan peppercorns if you elect to get the firey broth. I was treating my parents to dinner here (and my father can't really handle spice -- Koreans everywhere shake their heads) so we got the yin-yang pot, which is half mild and half spicy broth. I elected to go spiciest on the spicy side (which turned out to have a nice heat that didn't overpower the deep flavors of the base broth at all or make the meal inedible). We also ordered a large variety of ingredients, including the vegetable combo, mushroom basket, tofu combo, lamb, beef, pork belly, surf clam strips, house meat and shrimp balls, and fresh noodles. Everything was very fresh and really good quality. There weren't any brown spots on any leaves, no frozen meat, and a nice variety of food was in each of the combos. Normally I'm wary of eating the tofu uncooked/heated through, but I ate the soft tofu with just a bit of sauce and it was great. My favorite items by far were the meatballs and the pork belly. The meatballs, all made in-house, were neither frozen nor pre-cooked. After being cooked through, they remained very soft and the texture was wonderful (especially the shrimp!!). The pork belly, as it cooked, added a lot of savoriness to the broth via the rendered fat and made it that much richer. The beef and lamb were both very tender and flavorful as well. The noodles (thick ones? first one on the list if I remember correctly) were really good with a great texture. We ended up ordering two large plates! The one ingredient that I may not order again was the surf clam (which was very tough, but that's due to the nature of the meat not really the quality of the ingredient). We also got a plate of Mongolian kimchi on the side as a palate cleanse and it was interesting. It was made with regular cabbage and was sweeter than its Korean counterpart. Sort of reminded me of the sweet pickled radish/carrot of Vietnamese cuisine. The sauce bar was great and had a nice selection of ingredients. I decided to mix the sweet soy sauce with shacha sauce, garlic, vinegar, sesame oil, and scallions. The service was pretty good, although they messed up twice; they forgot our kimchi and brought out scallops instead of clams (maybe we should have just kept them, they looked pretty fresh and may have been a better choice haha). But besides that they were pretty good and spoke English well (though they seemed to think I was Chinese, and while I can understand some basic stuff, I'm not!). My one problem with the place is probably the price. I hear they have an AYCE option, which might actually end up being way better than ordering à la carte as we did. While at one glance the prices seem pretty low, they do add up very quickly and we ended up dropping almost $140 after tax and tip for three people. But other than that, I'm very happy with the quality of the food, the service, and convenient location! Recommended for sure (be sure to get the in-house meatballs and pork belly. As soon as you enter Little Sheep, your nostrils will be treated to a spice that will get you excited and actually wait that long hour for a table. Combination pot of Spicy and Regular will be your best bet for your table to cater everyone. Meat and vegetable choices were pretty good and don't forget your balls - squid balls, fish balls, meatballs, lamb ball...get all the balls you want! Definitely worth the trip to Flushing to come here for hotpot. Little Sheep is better than many other hotpot places in Manhattan in all areas: price, variety, quality, and space. We came here at 6pm on a Saturday which turned out to be the perfect time to go. We came taking up the second to last table. About 20 min. later, the wait for a table grew exponentially as the dinner crowd hit. Unlike many Chinese restaurants, this place is very vegetarian friendly. You can request for mushroom based broth. We ordered the Yin Yang and replaced the original broth with the vegetarian one. Broth is filled with red dates, scallions, and other aromatics, which add even more flavor to the hot pot. Props to them for having so many different kinds of choices in each category. Their meat and seafood are fresh, especially the fish (which according to their Chinese menu is flounder). I suggest getting some of the combo platters so you can try a bit of everything. Yay, Happy Lamb (formerly known as Little Sheep) finally came back after months of delivery only due to Covid! It still has the best original broth that is rich, packed with umami and herbal flavors, and the broth is so delicious that it warms up your soul instantly after the first sip. Flushing has opened a few hot pot joints, predominantly Szechuan and Chongqing styles (AKA, very spicy, numbing, and oily), so seeing this long standing Mongolian hotpot making a come back is really exciting! The lamb quality here is superb, beats any lamb you would get from other hotpot joints. I saw the menu description and it seems they receive exclusive supplies of specific ages and breeds that the meat is so tender, fresh and zero gaminess. Also, the lamb is sliced into paper thin slices, but still able to maintain its shape after being boiled and not falling apart. Comparing to other joints, their a la carte option is lacking varieties, especially in vegetable selection, but the basics are here and are served in good size and very reasonable price. This is for the business owner: when we went on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was busy based on the current restricted capacity. There were only two waitresses (they were extremely occupied and are running nonstop to attend customers, delivering orders, cleaning up, etc.). They apparently tried their best, constantly apologized for the wait and were nice and friendly. Please consider getting extra help, at least for weekends. To fellow diners, a big thank you on supporting this local business, especially where it got hit the most by the pandemic. Tips for new customers: be prepared to wait when you come during weekends, you will be asked to sign a Covid waiver, get your temperature checked before being escorted to the seating area. Be patient as the restaurant seems short of wait staff and does not have a designated escort to greet everyone comes into the door. Do get half and half to try at least the original broth and another one that has some heat and kicks. This place is legit! I have a policy of not eating hotpot or korean BBQ unless it's AYCE and this place started AYCE on tuesdays so had to go. The good thing about this place is the food, the quality of the soup base, the meats, the veggies, everything was QUALITY! You can def taste the difference between this place and a regular AYCE place. Unfortunately this place does not have the AYCE model down. Had an enjoyable dinner here the past Saturday. Place was pretty busy as expected, I actually thought it was the restaurant on Roosevelt which I visited years ago but apparently this is the actual original Little Sheep chain from Mainland China. They now have very distinct logos and styling I suppose because all the copy cat restaurants. Anyway, we actually made a reservation only about 2 hours before the time and was lucky actually could sat down before the 7pm reservation time so a little preparation definitely paid off. It certainly was packed as they had to unfortunately try to shoo us out after we stayed about 9pm and mentioned they have another table coming in at 9.. So certainly not a place you can expect a short wait with just walkins Originally we actually ordered way too much as I was under the impression the portions would be smaller but a full single order I think is enough for 3-4 people most likely. Initially we actually needed two folding tables to bring out all the stuff we ordered! They were nice enough to ask if we like to send back some of the veggie orders which I thought was very nice and considerate of them to do. Service was great unlike most Chinese restaurant I've been to, I think they really had some training/focus on services. Interiors was very clean and modern very enjoyable. After ordering so much it came out to about $35 pp but I think we definitely would be full with 1/3 less of the food so $35 certainly isn't the norm at this place I would expect I didn't think the broth tasted very differently from what I've tried at other hotpot places but the meat was quite tender and fresh. Bold statement: This is perhaps the best hot pot one could get in downtown Flushing. It is, however, one of the most expensive. Food: all items seemed extremely fresh and well-presented, but portions were not large, to say the least. The fatty beef, fish dumplings, lamb balls, watercress, taro, and other items were classic hot pot fare; they did not disappoint. The Yin Yang pot, with half spicy and half not-so-spicy, was a great choice - I highly recommend it. Service: it's only moderately responsive because we arrived at 4:30 p.m.and the line was out the door by 5:30 p.m. Decor: clean, very clean for a hot pot restaurant. The place could use a stronger ventilation system for all the steam, but that may make lots of noise. Tip: only parties of six or more people will be given a reservation. If there is anything Asians can agree about, it is hot pots are awesome. Each Asian country has their own variation and at Little Sheep, you have your traditional Chinese yuanyang kind with the double section pot (yuanyang makes references to the type of ducks that always come in pairs, hence the 2 section pot). One side is the milky herbal non-spicy broth while the other is the spicy broth flooded with chilis and anything else that is red but surprisingly not much chili oil, something that is key in a spicy hot pot broth. The deciding factor that determines the quality of the hot pot is the broth. I am quite disappointed that the broths served at Little Sheep tasted exactly the same as their packaged versions sold in every Chinese supermarket. Everything was the same down to the flavor, the msg, and even the types of preserved herbs. Being so, I didn't think the broth tasted that special and was very one dimensional, almost like the flavor of instant ramen soup packets. The quality of the ingredients like the meats and vegetables is much better. Their menu has almost every hot pot ingredient imaginable. Even beef has like 4 types. How it works here is first a $3.75 soup fee is charged per person. You pick the type of soup you want and then you purchase additional dishes of food and add that on top of the soup fee. At first, you might think that the soup fee is not bad but the dishes of food add up and can get quite expensive in the end. A plate of the cheapest beef is $7.50 and most vegetables range from $3.95-4.95. The quality of ingredients and cleanliness is unmatched in Flushing. Also the place is spacious and great for groups. However, I've been to much better hot pot places flavor-wise and price-wise all around the city. And since Little Sheep sells their soup in markets anyways, the hot pot here can be easily replicated at home for a fraction of the price. read more

I've always heard good things about this hotpot, so coming in I knew it was a quality hotpot place and I was definitely really excited to try this place versus the usual shabu shabu places that I eat at. Walking in, immediately I saw that they had FREE honey lemon green tea and peach tea available for you to pour and drink as you are having your hotpot. What? Free "bubble tea" to go with your hotpot? YES, I am sold. I had the honey lemon green tea first and I thought it was BOMMBBB, but when I tried the peach tea, that one was BOMBB!! I liked the peach tea more even though I usually like honey lemon more. The ordering sheet was simple and to the point, it's basically a check off of what you wanted. It tells you the item and the cost right next to it. I think the meat platters are HUUGE!! 3 platters was more than enough for 3 people, along with fishballs, crab meat (I do not recommend), spinach and other stuff. They only have two flavours of broth, spicy or regular. They're both the same flavour which I believe I was told was either a chicken bone or ox bone flavour. When they refill your soup, they add the ORIGINAL flavour onto both (whether original or spicy) instead of water, which I've seen most places do so I really enjoyed that. The sauce station was kind of small but honestly, the broth is SOO flavourful that you don't really need to dip your food into any additional sauces. A lot of reviews have said that the customer service isn't that great but I had a pleasant experience with my servers. They brought the food out immediately after we ordered and they brought it out correctly. They refilled our water, it wasn't difficult to flag anyone down (although no one came to check up on us). The place is very clean and spacious so you do not leave the place reeking of hotpot. This place is a little pricier than the many other places that you can choose from, but the quality of the cuts and the broth flavour is amazing and cannot be achieved in many other places! I had the great fortune of coming here for a special tasting event, in which everything felt like a royal feast. What stood out the most was the soup broth and the quality meat sourcing, which is a godsend for anyone who cares about how their meat is raised, but also loves Asian cuisine. Let's face it, free-range, grass-fed meat and Chinese restaurants are like N/S magnets, oil & water, and [insert other polar opposite metaphor here]. The meat was overall really good. But I have to tell you, I nearly cried at how good the chicken was. To me, chicken is so disappointingly chewy and flavorless these days, but Little Sheep's jidori free range chicken re-converted me! It truly was a heavenly, melt in your mouth experience that was so well-planned with the flavors of the broth. Speaking of the broth, it's a round, flavorful, fragrant blend, that is not at all spicy. I repeat, it's not spicy, but effing delicious. I know we associate hot pot with mouth-numbing Sichuan (Szechuan) style, but this is Mongolian style y'all. Much more Xi'an style flavorings that go well with lamb, like the wonderful creation that is cumin. As long as you don't go in expect Sichuan hot pot, I think you'll leave a very happy customer. The other list of things on our tasting menu that were fabulous were the lamb shoulder, fish roe balls, all the veggies (eat your greens!), and the chewy noodles. For the sweet things, there's the sesame bread appetizer that comes with custard dipping sauce. It's huge and doughy, so don't fill up too soon. And there's also a mochi yam dessert thing, which is great if you like those flavors and texture (I do!). We got almost one of everything but things that really stood out to me was the shrimp, meat platter (beef & lamb), scallops and the skewers. Everything tasted really fresh. They have an extensive menu ranging from meats, vegetables, drinks, and appetizers. However, they lack variety on their seafood selection. Their sauce station is self-serve and offers a handful of different sauces and condiments to mix up your own personalized sauce. YING YANG POT -- It smelled really aromatic. The spicy broth added a good kick to the meats. However, I preferred the herbal clear broth for my vegetables. Don't forget to throw in a bowl of noodle in the broth towards the end! Delicious and CLEAN! I think this is the only hot pot restaurant, or even any restaurant in Flushing, that I've genuinely felt clean in and wasn't terrified of using a restroom in, so props to them for keeping a higher standard in terms of sanitation! Now for the food. Their house soup base is super savory and opaque from all the meaty flavors packed in it and always comes with a few of their ingredients bobbing along with the boiling bubbles for a hint of authenticity. I've been to a few hot pot places in Flushing and the soup base here blows everywhere else's out of the water. Everywhere else will use some sort of instant soup base that tastes good (cause MSG, but no complaints here!) but cannot compare to the real stuff like this. Their lunch special for $10 comes with a protein and a basket of basic vegetables and noodles which was more than enough food and solid quality. The second time I came I had to try the AYCE because my first experience was so great, but the price was tripled! Yes, the quality is good and yes it is clean but hot pot... is never worth $30. Probably the nicest hot pot restaurant I've been to. It's actually spacious, clean, nice decor, and good waitstaff. Most importantly though, the quality of the food and broth is among the highest of the hot pot places. The ingredients look fresh, the portions are generous, and the broth is flavorful but feels cleaner than other places. Went with a group of 5. Between ordering two pots (both half mild/half spicy) and a ton of food, we completely over-ordered. Beef, lamb shoulder, pork belly, scallops, mushrooms, greens, two kinds of noodles, fish and meatballs, intestines, radishes, bean curd, to name a few. Everything was really delicious. This place also easily has the best sauce bar of any hot pot place I've been. Check in on Yelp if you want free ice cream! But be prepared to show your check-in twice. They're really policing that one. (PS- the ice cream is totally mediocre). The only downfall is that this place easily costed us double or triple of what we pay for hot pot at other places. After coming here I don't think I can ever look at hot pot the same way again. Quite depressed that the AYCE promotion ended but I guess the lunch special will do! The lunch special is Monday - Friday. I believe it ends at 4PM but you should double check by calling. If you order A la carte your bill will come out to be VERY expensive. The lunch special is $15 and trust me, it really fills you up! Always order the yin yang! It's $4 extra but I really think it's worth it and it is very busy on a Sunday/Saturday night so definitely plan ahead. It gets very busy and the waiters/waitresses tend to be less attentive. It usually takes me a while to finally wave then down to get their attention. Overall little sheep can be quite pricy but I've never tasted anything as great at the hot pot here because of it's amazing soup base. Let me start by saying, if you are a fan of hotpot, they could be a decent pick. Personally I was never a fan of hotpot. It's sort of like a buffet, but worse. You don't get the same level of gratification except for eat, eat and eat, with the same taste palate. With that said, the place is ok. The variety of ingredients variety is more than sufficent. The indoor decor feels clean, but given the bathroom situation, who knows how clean it really is? I just don't buy it. The bill came out about $40 per person - cash only. I wish I could give the place a higher rating because the food was good and the service was great. But the bathroom was a disaster. The trash bin in bathroom stalls was overflowing! OVERFLOWING! There were toilet papers and sanitary napkins piling into a little mountain right next to the toilet seat. My sisters and I decided to take a drive out to Little Sheep Mongolian in Flushing on Tuesday night for their AYCE special. SO WORTH IT. - we were the only non asians so we did get quite a few looks but nothing too scary. - it gets super packed after 730pm : try to get there early! - the AYCE deal is through "rounds" where you order 3 dishes per person for the first round and then 1 dish per person for second and third rounds. -everything is delicious BUT the FISH BALLS w ROE - don't call it fish balls with roe if theres like nothing in the fish ball *_* ---- totally played us. we love fish roe! - we ordered the yin-yang soup bases: a) the spicy broth was kind of spicy but not burn-your-tongue-off spicy. Thumbs up! b) the original broth didn't have much a taste. I thought it would be more herbal but it just kind of was like semi-clear water? - I wasn't crazy about the sauce bar. it gets way too crowded for no reason. - seats are extremely close together and the table itself is very high (while sitting). After having hot pot once a week from December through April last year and trying easily a dozen or so places, I've come to the conclusion that there's only 2 places that I really want to go to: Little Sheep and Spring Shabu Shabu. Depending on what you are looking for and how many people you have, there are only these 2 places for me now. If you want high quality hot pot and have more than 4 people, Little Sheep really is the place to go. It's not an unlimited hot pot place but an a la carte place. You can see the quality of everything they bring you. The broth is definitely the best broth out of all the places for me and their service is top notch. They refill your broth constantly. I personally really like their home made lamb wontons and sausage. Key tip, there is space under the benches so you can keep your jackets from smelling like hot pot. read more

As I'm writing this review, my stomach is aching from eating so much. The soup base at Little Sheep, by far, is the best and most flavorful of any hotpot places I've to. My only wish is to have an AYCE version everyday. The food is fresh and the portions are pretty awesome. Their deluxe combo platters from Monday to Friday (all day) are worth it. Ordering a la carte can definitely add up, but more worth it if you have a larger party. Their sauce stations are always well stocked and clean. No peanut sauce though. Avoid this place on a weekend night otherwise you'll learn the hard way and wait anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to be seated. And make this the last stop of your night.... There are private rooms you can reserve for a more intimate hot pot with friends/family, although that hot pot smell that lingers on your jacket will probably be worse this way haha, you've been warned. Most people get the Ying Yang pot (half spicy, half original), so you can get both flavors. But technically you can just do original, and use your own sauce mix to spice up food after. At first I was skeptical about how good Mongolian hot pot could be, I have heard a lot of good reputations about this place but was afraid to give it a try. Now I can say it's is must go spot! They may put a lot of herbs in the soups which may make it smell weird for certain people but for me the soup is absolutely amazing! Meats, meats, meats, some veggies and steaming hot broth. What's not to like? A few coworkers and I recently made the trek to Flushing to gorge on some delicious Mongolian Hot Pot. My friends are pros, so they guided the table through the ordering process. We were seated in the corner of the slightly muggy (duh) restaurant, and handed a large checklist to mark off what we wanted. For starters, we ordered a ying yang bowl: half spicy broth with lots of peppers, the other side watery vegetable broth. Then for the add-ins: we ordered plates of watercress, mushrooms, sweet corn (yum), head-on shrimp, fish balls, fish sticks, lotus root, noodles, thinly sliced beef, pork belly, and tofu. OMG it was so much food, even for six people. And the sauce station: bottles, and bowls of sauce: soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame paste, spicy oil, barbecue sauce, chopped garlic, chopped scallions. So many options. Ask for a second bowl if you're really interested in stocking up. As the broth boiled, we started dropping in our meats. My bowl quickly filled with peppers. The initial spice tempered down after a few dips. It was fun to drop in a shrimp and see it simmer up fully cooked and delicious just a moment later. I can't tell you how much boiled meat I ate last night, but I ate and sipped broth until I couldn't eat another bite...until they brought out the sweet potato pancake dessert, that is. And the orange segments. This place is awesome. It's fun to dip endless amounts of veggies and meats into simmering broth, and see how the flavors of the pot evolve as you're getting bathed in a steamy, salty facial. Definitely a bonding experience for any group, as well. Give it a try! read more
