Probably the most family friendly of the hot pot restaurants in salt lake, this place combines affordability, variety, and quality. Of special interest to children and sweet-toothed adults alike will be the cotton candy machine, an atypical feature in hot pot restaurants. They've also got a rotating chef's choice side dish which has been a good enough reason to go on several occasions: most recently they had the most divine lamb spine that my whole table ate more of than we ate hot pot . Their meats are pretty good, but their seafood selection has been a miss most times we've gone. Maybe only once have they had crab legs. The broths are ok, but not as standout as other places'. Lastly of note is that they've got pretty good boba tea included too! Expect to pay about $35 for meal + tip, with children costing less. read more

The buffet here has a tasty selection of foods, both to cook in the pot and to eat separately. I loved the gyoza and the mango cake. My husband and daughter liked the doughnut-like buns. I was impressed to see the variety of seafood, including whole crabs. The setup was okay for us but seems like it wouldn't work well for more than two people. Having just one pot in the middle of the table instead of individual pots like we've seen at other hotpot places made cooking laborious. The soup bowls were also incredibly small, and mine spilled several times as I moved food in and out. The restaurant setup leaves things a bit crowded, and the service was just all right for us. There are different pricing options depending what you want included. We went for the middle price and were not disappointed. The vast majority of the menu is at the self-serve buffet. There's multiple kinds of tea and milk tea which is almost worth the price of admission on its own, a few cooked food items including fried buns with condensed milk, and a decent variety, well-stocked dipping sauce bar. The real business, of course, is the veggies, noodles, seafood, and meats at the bar. Mussels, fish (plain and marinated), squid, fish balls, pig ear, beef tripe (plain and marinated), and more. The selection is not so large to be overwhelming for both proteins and veggies; rather it is both expansive enough to satisfy and high enough in quality to please. * = as of this review, for the prices they charge, even the $5 upcharge to premium is damned cheap... The spicy marrow broth was okay. Towards the end, it was not spicy anymore (which was weird; usually it would get more and more spicy as it boils) but tasted really salty. The golden cabbage broth was a lot better. As for the meat, I got the VIP option, and it was decent. I mostly ordered the aged prime lamb and beef belly. The marinated garlic beef didn't go too well with hotpot; it's more like Korean bbq meat. The premium VIP option looked a lot better, but I didn't think it would be worth the price. I was impressed by the variety of options they have for both the hotpot ingredients and food buffet. I especially loved the tofu/bean curd ingredients--very unique and tasted AMAZING! The fried buns (man tou) with condensed milk were great, too. It was good that they had this mango cake for dessert and oranges as part of the buffet (a lot of ayce charge extra for dessert/fruits/drinks), but sadly they didn't taste very good. The oranges were also really sour, and I wished they provided other fruits as well. There was one thing that I had to mention--they have a machine for customers to make their own cotton candy! Best hotpot in town! My new favorite hot pot spot! First of all, this is actually part of an international franchise based out of Inner Mongolia. The hot pot here is so authentic! Lamb is sourced from New Zealand and they have some unique broths that you won't find elsewhere. Broths take 8-10 hours for them to make and guess what - all the broths are GF, a rarity for a hot pot place! They also have GF rice noodles and GF wide potato noodles. Definitely get the split pot so you can enjoy two broths. I love the golden cabbage and the curry broths. The golden cabbage is hot and sour and pairs well with the fish, where the curry broth has a very robust flavor that flavors the meats well. You don't even need sauce but they have a sauce bar if you want it still. The spicy broth is not very spicy, but you can ask them to make it spicier. For all you can eat, the price is really great. They have 3 different tier options, I've been twice and got the VIP first and the premium the second time. At a lot of hotpot places I usually don't care for the meats, but they are very good here. The inside is very clean and modern too. If you're looking for a great hot pot spot or wanting to try hot pot for the first time, I definitely recommend Happy Lamb! read more

I got the "best of both worlds" option which allows for two flavors of broths. I got the tomato and curry. Both were equally delicious and paired well with the meats. The curry broth eventually got too salty and desparately needed additional water or clear broth. This was the first hot pot place that I've seen that offers curry. Super tasty but sodium overkill. This AYCE restaurant is a little on the pricy side $30 per person for VIP, but the quality of the meats, veggies, and side dishes is pretty high up there. I was impressed with the variety of foods available to put in your soup (vegetable, mushroom and noodle bars) and their level of service (shout out to Bryson for being amazing). My group got "The Best of Both Worlds" (divided pot with 2 flavors) and enjoyed the Original Marrow and the Spicy Marrow for the broth. I especially loved the potato noodles, the ox tongue, shrimp paste, vegetables (which were all fresh), the dessert (there's dessert dumplings, cotton candy and ice cream) and the mango lemonade with crystal boba! It's very clean and well laid out but my favorite item is the Mongolian Kimchi (Chinese pao cai) with the wood ears salad being a close second, both are done better than anywhere else in SLC. We only tried the VIP meat options but I would recommend premium because there's more options. Beware of the fried chicken wings, they are so delicious but also filling so it's hard to decide whether to avoid or keep eating! Had my 2 year old niece come with and we had to pay $10 for her to eat. They said they didn't do by age but by height, and they didn't even measure her height so that was annoying. She ate half a bowl of rice and a few pieces of chicken from the cooked food section of the bar. I was extremely interested to try Happy Lamb after seeing all the good reviews, but now that I've actually have tried it, I realized that Chinese style hot pot is not my cup of tea and let me explain why. In my opinion, the broths were VERY strong in herbs or just too plain. I would usually think that the peppercorn taste would be strong in the spicy marrow broth, but it wasn't. I wasn't a fan of any of the broths unfortunately. Spice wise, the golden cabbage was the spiciest, then the spicy marrow broth. However, I will give Happy Lamb stars for fresh ingredients from vegetables and seafood. They also have really great side dishes. The night we dined, they had a great udon stir fry and we indulged heavily on the fried dough and mango tea. I did notice the passionfruit tea and milk tea were never refilled, which was a bummer because we wanted to try it. I wasn't that impressed with the meat selections. We only did one round of meat order and we barely even finished. We did the VIP level too. I think I am starting to prefer hot pot places with individual pots instead of a shared pot because it's hard to keep track of your ingredients while it's mixed with everyone else's. It got to the point where my aunt and I just poured everything in the pot to cook and told everyone else to not worry about who's food was who's. Don't get me wrong, Happy Lamb is a great place for those who like CHINESE style hot pot. They have pretty decent service and the restaurant is clean and spacious. I was absolutely blown away by this amazing hot pot! This was my first time ever even trying hot pot, and I have definitely fallen in love. The price is absolutely amazing and I was shocked at the quality that you get for the price itself. Not only is everything all you can eat, but the manager let us know that the meat is grown in New Zealand, which has amazing high-quality red meat. That alone really does speak for the price. However, it is still extremely affordable, considering this also includes the buffet, unlimited drinks, and amazing produce. I had never seen bok choy so green in my entire life! Not to mention the very wide variety of food, in addition to toppings for the hot pot. We got the mushroom broth and the original bone marrow and it was absolutely divine! I personally preferred the bone marrow broth, but was happy with both. It paired very well with the meat selection that we had, and the sauce bar really helped too spice things up! This was also very authentic and I was so happy to see the amazing ingredients that helped make the broth! I could never make this at home. As a mom, I was worried that the ambience was a little bit too nice to bring my toddler. However, the staff was so friendly and open to helping us clean up. They were not rude. They always had a smile, and they kept things very clean. they gave the highchair we used a full scrub down before and after we used it. This is unlike many American restaurants, although they were limiting in high chairs because we did have to wait after arriving to get one. I was very happy that it was at least a clean one. The bathroom also had a changing table with the sanitary sheet to put down on the changing table, and those are almost never in stock anywhere else! I was surprised that it was up front, assuming they need someone to tend to it constantly, but I don't expect the machine to be around long. Before the night was over (8PM) they had already shut down the machine stating it was too messy. The choices for meat were decent and had two options - VIP with 7 meats or Premium to have the 7 plus an additional 8 meats. There were a few of the items try at you could get at the buffet, so I don't feel like it was advertised accurately. Not really worth the extra $5 per person to get the premium, but had to try it. The food at the buffet was mostly refilled, but the drinks (milk tea and passionfruit green tea) which are included in the price paid, were not refilled the entire time we were there. By 7:30PM on Sunday, they were out and had no plans to refill. Our party of 6 fit into the booth with no problem, but the 2 people in the middle had a difficult time coming their food since the pots were further away. A great spot for hot pot for lamb lovers!! I'm not one to normally order lamb for hot pot but they had such quality meat here. We got the premium which included a 15 types of meat. The VIP includes 7 types of meat. Beware, each platter of meat is quite a lot so I would slowly order the meats to not waste any food. The staff accidentally gave us 2 more orders of lamb so it was a bit of a struggle to finish everything. If you don't get their vip or premium, you still get a selection of their seafood and veggies with the value price. The hot bar was alright but nothing too special. The golden cabbage broth is sour and spicy so avoid that one if that's not your jam. Meats are great quality and there are lots of ready to eat sides. Drinks are included! Cons- Our server was quick to get our broth order and meats delivered but he disappeared after that. I think he may have gone home because we never saw him again. We had to flag down other servers to order more meats and again to get the bill. We never got our broth refilled when it got low and gave up trying to get someone's attention.
