Very decent place to have boba. What started with Teapioca being basically the OG in the Austin area, we now have great franchises like Happy Lemon. This space is large and pretty clean with its typical bright yellow decor. The staff is always friendly and helpful as well. Very pleasant experience. Happy Lemon's drinks meet the higher standard of boba drinks. Decent tea taste and the elements of the drinks (toppings, non-dairy/dairy creamer, tea quality, fruit pieces, etc.) They also boast a very large variety of drinks, granted their specialty seems to be lemon flavored and base tea drinks. This is one of my favorite boba tea shops in Austin. I love the green tea with honey and lemon :') and I love going to trivia!

The regular milk tea and jasmine always taste fresh and fragrant, but the boba has been overcooked and mushy on my last 3 visits. The waffle is nice and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, but pretty dry/boring without a dip accompaniment. The salted egg is SUPER SALTY (as you'd imagine), and the puff cream isn't very sweet or rich, but is a nice texture. I added it once to my drink and I feel like it added nothing of value. The lemony options on the menu taste great and I'll probably stick to those while hoping the boba gets cooked better with each visit. read more

The boba debate in Austin is getting bigger with the addition with Happy Lemon and I recommend them! You walk in first, it's bright and vibrant and you smell fresh bubble waffles being made (which is a wonderful smell). They have a variety of drinks to select from. With their teas you can get a variety of foams added to a drink and it's worth it. I decided to order an Ube Milk Tea with Taro Puff Cream and chocolate bubble waffle. The Ube milk tea was wonderful. The tea was fragrant and strong. You got the taro puff cream that added some nice sweetness and evolved the tea flavor. It was well balanced and delicious. A lot of places will have pretty flavorless tea so I appreciated being able to taste the tea. I ordered a chocolate waffle and it was light airy and crispy around the edges. The chocolate is a bit subtle but the was not aggressively sweet. You could taste it all. (I def recommend to eat the waffle at the location or right away as it can get soggy as you travel home). I also want to comment on the 5 star service Happy Lemon provides. They really take service to the next level. As a new business in Austin they are ramping up and figuring out their rhythm. I guess there was a mistake with the first waffle that was made. They let me know how sorry they felt for messing up and making me wait. They offered me a second waffle and a side of dipping sauces. Happy Lemon finally arrived in Austin, and this is a pretty solid place for that tea craving. A group of five of us grabbed a table and everyone was happy with their drinks. I ordered the Boba Milk Tea w/ Puff Cream (D5). This was definitely one of the more creamy milk teas I've had and it was pretty good. I love my sugar, and the drink had the right sweetness level for me (ordered at 50%). The boba had the right texture as well. The Okinawa Roasted Milk Tea w/ Boba (D13) was also really good, although is definitely on the sweeter side if you usually get a lower sweetness level. Finally, our noses prevailed and we caved in and got their bubble waffle. The waffles aren't filled or topped with anything crazy. You just get a choice of waffle flavor and dipping sauces. We just got their basic waffle and it was pretty good, although you need to eat it right away to take advantage of the crispiness. Overall, a solid spot and the staff was really nice. read more

Oh finally! Been waiting so long for the Happy Lemon to finally arrive and it was well worth the wait. Opening weekend lines were kinda nuts but the drinks are amongst the best in Austin. Service is a bit slow but that might just be a result of new opening. We tried three different drinks and all were good. 1. Jasmine milk tea with cheese foam - if you haven't had cheese tea, this is a great place to try it for the first time. 2. Boba milk tea with puff cream - black milk tea that's strong and just sweet enough with the puff cream. It reminds me off creme brulee milk teas at other places but less sweet. 3. Okinawa roasted milk tea - the okinawa is really strong, so make sure you mix the drink before sipping it. I made the mistake of not doing so and got a huge mouthful of sugar. But once you get past that, it's a pretty sweet, but good drink. The pearls are also perfectly chewy and bouncy (QQ!). Definitely get that with your driink. read more

I was so beyond excited to hear that Happy Lemon was opening up in Austin as I had some great experiences in other cities. The service in this location was so beyond amazing from opening to closing. I had placed like a 12 drink order close to the closing time and the employees were the absolute sweetest about this and that really set the tone for my Happy Lemon experience! In terms of the drinks, I like that this shop offers some more traditional options such as red bean compared to other places. The variety of drinks that they have is also insane, they have some pretty intricate mixes and most of them are quite good! The boba is cooked really well and nothing was overly sweet. The packaging is really cute and overall, nice vibe of the store. Drink Recommendations: My absolute favorite here would have to be their salted cheese + tea series (honesty like this wayyyy more than their milk teas)! The salted cheese at the top mixed with the green or black tea basically turns the drink into a Milk Tea and it is so beyond delicious. The regular milk tea with the creamer honestly tasted a bit off to me and it coated my tongue which I did not like. Meanwhile, the salted cheese and tea was a good blend of the tea flavor and cream and it wasn't as dense as the milk teas. Dragonfruit was interesting, I liked it to try but I probably would not order on multiple occasions. It didn't really taste like dragon fruit in my opinion, just a slight bit tart mixed with sweet cream. Matcha was the same, I thought that it was pretty standard. I did really like their waffles would were around $6. I got a matcha one with no filling and it was a good snack to have on the side especially fresh out of the bubble waffle iron! This place was pretty popular on a Saturday at 3PM. There was a steady long line while I was in the shop. The ordinary waffle was pretty good, and the mango orange milk tea was okay. While I wasn't crazy about what I ordered, they do have a lot of other interesting and yummy sounding drinks to try, so I'd like to return to try another drink! My orange milk tea did have actual orange zest in it, so I imagine they make a lot of their stuff fresh, rather than with powders, and I love that! read more

so happy that happy lemon is open in austin!! and it's so close to me too :3 i used to visit a happy lemon in taipei fairly often and i'd get their fruity/lemon-y drinks. not too sure about the cheese-foam drinks (as i'm not a big cheese fan) that are more popular in the states, but i'm excited to try all of their other drinks! they have a variety of 'healthier' options that include drinks made with fresh lemons and fresh taro. aside from the drinks, the bubble waffle is a must!!! crisped corners and soft spongey waffle cake balls :D delish and def reminds me of the traditional egg cakes sold by street vendors in taiwan. i'd say skip the dipping sauce/whip cream for it though...got the taro one and it didn't have much taro flavor and was slightly on the sour side actually. it's a cute shop with hip decor, and more open space for standing/waiting vs seating. When you hear BOGO for bubble tea, you run! I took advantage of this offer during their first two days of their Grand Opening, so please note that my review is not based off a standard business day. It took approximately 40-45 minutes to make it through the line to the counter to order, and the line remained long. That said, they had a staff member manage the door, and they created a zig zag line to maintain order and to allow more people in the shop at once (smart!) I do imagine, and hope, that the wait is not as big of an issue without the promo deal. There were maybe 6-7 staff members during this huge rush, and they had already been open for 4 or 6 hours at this point, so I imagine the staff were quite tired by this. point. I ordered their speciality taro milk tea with some puff(?) and bubbles. The bubbles were almost mochi like, which I found surprisingly delicious! The drink was a more grey color and less of the artificial purple as is typically standard with taro milk tea, so I have to imagine they're using some quality, less processed taro ingredients for their drinks. The drink was smooth, lightly sweet (per my request), and palatable. Not my favorite taro bubble tea, but the super pillowy soft bubbles was something I never knew I wanted in a drink! For my second beverage, I decided to try their passion fruit tea. They must have had the ratios off, because it was so incredibly tart that I could only take a sip. It had passion fruit seeds inside, so I assume that they use real fruit as well. If the ratio had been correct, I think it would have been delicious. Overall, the workers gave their all and deserve 5 stars for rocking such a wild grand opening! Drink wise, I will have to give them another go to see how their quality adjusts on a slower paced day. I first tried happy lemon in Houston. So I was pretty excited to hear about them opening in Austin. I got their original bubble waffles with puff cream. The bubble waffle is slightly sweet and chewy... the puff cream isn't too sweet. I got the mango matcha with boba. I was kinda iffy about it but the matcha flavor was very subtle. It was pretty good. Tasted more like a mango smoothie. Love the mango bits. Boba is a little on the chewier side. I really like their roasted milk tea.. I got it 50% sweet. Love the roasted tastes. They were pretty busy.. took about 15-20 mins. The only down side is that they don't do rewards. When I went to the houston location, I was told that all locations has the reward program. One of the workers told me that it isn't a texas thing and that do don't do rewards... so I'm a little confused? I definitely will be back to try different drinks! read more

There are not enough employees at this location. I waited 30 minutes for a waffle and a drink on a Friday afternoon, with just 3 other customers at the location. I feel bad for the one employee that has to work alone, but at the same time, it's ridiculous that it takes half an hour to get your drink. Nice to see more bubble tea places open up. My usual Happy Lemon order includes a waffle or two. It's a bit of a bummer this location doesn't do two flavors in one waffle. However I still like it since not many places have it. Another thing that sets them apart are their puff cream add ins, it's even better when you add mix ins like cookie crumbles. Also I recommend dialing down your usual sweetness level here, drinks here imo lean pretty sweet even basic teas. read more
