How can I ever say no to trying out a new Boba place? Went here this past weekend to try the black milk tea with salted cheese. Bf also got the fresh lemon black tea. And because I'm fat and want to try everything, I also ended up getting the milk tea with puff cream. The black milk tea with salted cheese sound so off, but is actually quite delicious. I much prefer it to the creama that other Boba places offer. You're supposed to drink it at a 45 degree angle to get both the salted cheese and tea. I did notice on the menu that you can order more salted cheese. The fresh lemon black tea was also quite delicious. It was very refreshing. Tasted like lemonade without it being too sweet. The milk tea with puff cream was ok. I feel like I've had better, such as the one at 99% tea house in Fremont. This place allows customers to adjust the ice level and sweetness of the drinks. I love happy lemon, my kids and I just can't get enough. This store is located in an Asian shopping center on the right off the 880 onto Mission Blvd. The service is quick here and the store is clean. My first realization that I liked salted cheese was mind blowing. Who would've ever thought that it would taste good...not me. They had a limit of 4 drinks per person during the grand opening, which was pretty reasonable. On my last visit to this Happy Lemon (12/10), the lines are decent (comparable to other locations) and the service is fast! The drink quality is also roughly the same as other locations, so overall I'm pretty happy with this place. I really enjoy Happy Lemon. While it isn't my favorite boba shop of all time - unpopular opinion, I know - I do think it's high up there and within my top contenders! Definitely worth your time and money. No doubt about that. I haven't been able to try all that Happy Lemon has to offer but have tried some of their "salted cheese" drinks, teas, and slushies. Of the drinks I have tried my favorite is the black milk tea with salted cheese. I prefer this over the chocolate tiramisu one because the latter (while delicious) felt like would be best for someone who really wants that chocolate flavor profile and guess I'm not that girl. The lemon slushy is refreshing and will make you wanna pucker up your lips from how tart it is! A great alternative option when you're not feeling getting that caffeine rush, especially if you come later in the night. Also! What I found really cool is that if you order the salted cheese drinks you can ask they them to give you the salted cheese on the side. This is a great option if you come in later in the night and want some for the next day or if you're getting a drink for someone and don't want to to swish around together. Didn't think this was possible, but upon finding out this has become a definite game changer!!! This location also has pretty good customer service. Been here twice so far. Once during grand opening weekend and yesterday. Grand opening had the bogo free special with a 4 drink limit per person. However if you wanted to buy more you could've went back in line. Took about 45 mins waiting in line to order my drink then another 10mins to get the drinks. Got the milk tea with salted cheese, green tea with salted cheese, black tea with salted cheese, and taro milk. The milk tea for my preference was too strong so the salted cheese helped a lot. Taro milk was really tasty. The other drinks were for my friends. Yesterday we waited 2 mins before our order was taken, one of the workers was taking orders on a tablet and one more at the register. I ordered the mango lemon slushy with boba. I really enjoyed this drink, really refreshing, real mango , there was also jelly in it too and the boba was good. Whoooo!!!!! Came here on grand opening day so lines were long, but I expected that. Same menu as other locations. Service was good here. Since it was opening day, they really tried to make service go by as fast as possible which is great. Not sure about their layout since it is opening day, but when I went they had chairs just lined up against the wall and not exactly any tables. They probably will have tables and proper seating since I went on opening day. Warning: Lengthy and wordy review for what is essentially a boba place. But will try and expose some angles to an American who might not have a clue on what this place is about. Which was me about a year ago btw. So I'm a huge fan of their signature drink which is cold quality tea topped with this "salted cheese", which in the beginning sounded so odd to me. But once tried, it won me over and is actually a fave of mine now. And honestly it isn't as weird as it sounds. So this "salted cheese" is more like a very thick cream. It isn't solid as the word "cheese" would imply. But the taste does have a unique tartness which is very refreshing actually. It is also noticeably salty, which will open up your taste buds physiologically. So to me, it has this very cream cheese flavor that we all know, but in just a velvety liquid consistency. The tea part is no slouch here. They use quality teas that are bold in tannic tea flavor. And when paired with this cream/"cheese", is just quite remarkable IMO. The oolong and the green teas are both legit, they taste exactly what their characteristics are. I hate when I order Oolong at a boba place, and it taste no different than Lipton. *clinches fist!* There is also a certain preference on how to drink this. When it is made, the cream/"cheese" stays afloat on top of the tea. If you let it sit, it will eventually fall into the tea. So most insist on sipping from the top and not through a straw. I'm 50/50 on this, as I've tried both. By keeping it separated and drinking from the top, you tend to get the isolated flavors one at a time, so it is kind of a ride. First you get this salty-ish cream that taste like liquid cream cheese. The tea follows real quick and mellows and counters the dessert cream cheese sensation. So to me, the cream/"cheese" isn't fulfilled until the tea hits it. So personally I just mix everything together with my straw until it is somewhat homogenous and everything dances as one. So IF you do drink from a straw, it is imperative to stir it first. Otherwise you'll suck all the tea from the bottom of the cup and leave this thick cream on top. Which is the big NO-NO for the Happy Lemon experience. Oh and their Matcha Tiramisu is pretty damn legit too. I love matcha green tea. And I usually love a well made/proportioned tiramisu. And to find the two together, just made me giddy with anticipation. Very moist with a decent matcha flavor. Packaged very attractively I might add. Even though I'm sure it was made in some factory, it didn't have that artificial factory taste. But the spoon they give you is just ridiculous. It is like the plastic spoon that kids use to feed their baby dolls. No adult should be subject to such lunacy. As soon as you order this, immediately ask for a regular plastic spoon. I have been to so many Happy lemons and this is the worst one!! First of all, the management is very messy and doesn't seem like anyone is running the place. Also, the last 2 times we have went there, the lids were not placed on correctly and were very loose. The drinks spilled everywhere and it wasn't once but twice. Their black tea with cheese foam drink was also horrible. The cheese foam, tea, and boba had no flavor and tasted like water or ice. Lastly, they always end up forgetting a topping we order, for the last 3 times we have been there they have forgotten to add boba in at least one drink. I always thought the Happy Lemon brand was whatever, but after several visits, I've converted. Maybe it's the goofy face with the lemon shaped bowl cut, I don't know! The fresh lemon tea drinks at regular sugar are quite good, even though I usually get my boba at 50% sugar at other boba shops. Crammed into an asian shopping center with about four other boba places, happy lemon is still the place i would go to over any of the others. They have a black tea with salted cheese that is a bit similar to gong cha's black tea with salted cream, but I like happy lemon's cheese flavor a lot. They also have a matcha latte with tiramisu salted cheese that's amazing! You can really taste the tiramisu in the salted cheese and goes perfectly with the matcha. The last time I went, my boyfriend ordered the chocolate with puff cream instead of salted cream and it was amazing. I'm rating on just customer service itself I came in doing DoorDash I've worked in customer service myself for a very long time, so I get it. I got two orders one of the orders had three drinks I asked for a bag they denied me a bag saying that they didn't have the size, I understood the reason I asked for the bag in the first place was because the cupholder felt really wobbly. She said she didn't have one for it. It was whatever, as I was walking into my car and opening my door one of the drinks fell I went back inside to the store and I told them that the drink spilled. Instead of them just making it right away they said I had to contact DoorDash so they could get reimbursed for that drink. Even though the customer had already paid for it and the drink spilling was a complete accident. And Happy Lemon is a place that comes highly recommended by many as a top Boba place. And there are a lot of boba shops in the Bay. Living in Colorado, I'm always super jealous of the options here. We had a meeting nearby and wanted to find somewhere to chill and work for an hour. Although there was a line, it got through really fast.
