I believe Happy Lemon's Convoy District shop was the OG location of this bubble tea franchise in SD County. The chain now has a presence in at least eight different communities across the county. My latest visit came at a good time in the afternoon as I detest the tiny parking lot that was shared across half a dozen businesses in the plaza. There's additional parking in the back, but it's a crapshoot for open spaces. The suite seemed larger than I remembered, but it has been a few years since I stopped in. Only one customer was present, but not long after I arrived, several more groups came through the doors. As noted by its name, the business is known for its Lemon Series drinks along with the Salted Cheese varieties. I wasn't a fan of the latter so I didn't select one of those choices this time. Bubble waffles were available on the menu, and I didn't recall those offerings in the past. My pick was a Freshly Squeezed Lemon Honey Green Tea from the above series. It could be prepared hot or cold as a 20 oz serving for $7 which seems to be par nowadays. I opted for the latter with less ice, regular sugar, and boba pearls. I took a sip after logging into the free WiFi signal. There was a bit of a pucker factor from the lemon flavor but after the initial taste, my palate got accustomed. Whenever we had dinner here in Convoy with my Son and his friends, my Son would always ask to pass by Happy Lemon, it's their favorite place to get their fruity drink and spend more time with each other. They have this app that you ask them to scan every time you get your drink and with it, you can earn a few points towards getting your free drinks, So far that works perfectly for us since we are always getting drinks here. My son and his friends kept trying different drinks here, but my wife and I always stick with Avocado & Passion Fruit drinks either with Boba or Lychee. The drinks here are pretty good, they look overly sweet but they are not, they just have the right amount of sweetness and they are very addictive drinks. Some days this place is so packed and some are not, mostly the weekend nights are the busiest. Parking-wise, I always knocked on the windows of those who abusively used the handicapped parking without a handicapped placard, either those online delivery people who picked up the food or the Happy Lemon customers whose reason was that they would be quick to grab their drinks. This place is so delicious. I get the same thing almost every time- the Oreo milk tea w/ boba w/ puff cream. It never disappoints, and is most enjoyable (in my opinion) after a meal at a restaurant nearby. They offer of different flavors such as Matcha, Wintermelon, Mango, Oreo and so much more. You can choose from hot drinks, to smoothies to teas and lemon series. First Happy Lemon I've tried in San Diego! Coming from Norcal, I was pleased that my rewards card traveled down to Socal. Surprisingly though, they don't have the same menus. I was looking for my usual passion fruit green tea, but they didn't have it. I opted to get the strawberry green tea (sub the topping for boba) for $6.75. Similar to Norcal prices. Boba here is quite good. I came another time in the evening on my trip and they definitely get really busy. Huge plus is that they open late (which is why they do so well). MY FAVE BOBA SPOT IN SD! I've been coming here for years and they are SO CONSISTENT. Their jasmine green tea with salted cheese is the best. I typically order a medium, less ice, normal sugar, no toppings. I've tried the same drink at other places but I always find myself back here. I love Happy Lemon! I only come for the Strawberry Black Iced Tea with Cheese Foam--it's absolutely delicious. Happy Lemon has my favorite cheese foam of any tea shop. In my opinion, the black tea pairs better with the cheese foam than the green tea option. The strawberry purée adds a nice flavor and texture, with real strawberry pieces. I'm not sure if they're fresh or frozen, but the flavor is solid either way. As always, I recommend at least 75% sweetness. This drink always hits the spot. I've had the waffle pastry a handful of times, and I recommend the Oreo or regular puff option. The cheese version contains actual melted cheese, which throws off the flavor a bit for me. The cheese foam as a dipping sauce, however, is a non-negotiable must-buy. The parking lot is still terrible, but not as bad as others in the area. There's usually parking behind the restaurant. Customer service and ambiance at this location are passable--neither are particularly memorable, but not every place needs them to be.
