The ladies at the Mimosa Nail Bar were by far the best that I have found in Portland. I was AMAZED. My girlfriends booked room for 5 of us for my birthday. The Salon isn't extremely large so we were mixed in with the other guests (which was totally fine). Right when we walked in, there was cameras and mimosa in my hand and a cupcake. They sang and took photos of my friends and I and were SO KIND. I was amazed at the generosity and the warmth of these women. We got Manicures and Pedicures, and both turned out perfect. They didn't rush or pushed us into getting a package we didn't want. The space, people and product all are 5 stars. We will be returning as soon as my nails need another mani. read more

This place wasn't the worst mani but in my top 10. Don't come here if you have sensitive nails. I informed the manicurist 3 times that my nails/skin are very sensitive. She filed my nails in a rush and sliced my finger tip with the nail file. After the bleeding stopped she tried cleaning my nails with her nails. Yesterday was a friends birthday so a group of us girls went here to get our nails done. We made the appointment before going and told them that it was for a birthday. When we got there, there was a cute display for the birthday girl including fruit and cupcakes! One of the ladies took a bunch of pictures of us and the birthday girl. Then she plugged her camera into the tv and played a slideshow of the pictures they just took. It was great! We all got the deluxe pedicure which included the hot wax. Some of the girls got the shellac manicure which looked really good! They were able to do their manicure while getting their pedicures done which made it pretty quick. Annie was soooo kind to do dip powder for me regardless of the fact she isn't the most familiar with this style. I said I believed in her and boy did she NOT disappoint! I absolutely love my nails and will be going to her for my dip every time. Please be aware if you so choose an appointment with her this process does take longer than usual expectation, she really tries her best taking her time to ensure the style looks perfect so be patient. I just got my nails done here, and I'm pleased. I walked in and they seemed busy, so I was totally okay waiting 15 minutes before someone could give me a shellac manicure. The manicure seemed rushed, and I was worried I was going to bleed or be cut while the woman was removing my cuticles. It made me uneasy, but it turned out fine. My nails aren't perfectly shaped, and I don't feel like tons of attention to detail went into my mani, but the woman honestly knew what she was doing well enough to succeed at rushing through. I'm interested to see how this holds holds up. I feel like a paid a fair price for fair service, but I'm not widely impressed by any means. *update* Okay, okay, color me impressed. This was the best staying gel manicure I've had. Not a single chip or lifting edge for 2 weeks, and even then it still looks very good. My nails have just grown out too much! I believe they have a new owner, I've been there only a couple times now, but he already remembers me by name. Let me start off by saying that I'm a super picky person when it comes to getting my nails done. Up until last month or so this place didn't do acrylic so I'd have to travel a little far to get a decent fill. I came in two days ago and this place has come into new management! Lily (the new manager) did my fill and oh my goodness!! It's soo great. The exact shape I love and not to chunky so they look somewhat real! Lily was super warm and really attentive. BACKGROUND - So about three summers ago, my good friend and I found our "go-to" nail salon (see my review for Great Professional Nails). However, we were in the Alphabet District of Portland and wanted to get our nails done after a nice lunch a SanSai's. I used my handy dandy Yelp app on my phone and saw that Mimosa had a solid 4 stars, however with a handful of reviews giving them 1 star. Intrigued, we decided to try them. PROS - Really cute place. It was just just so sweet -- the decorative flowers, happy images of people getting spa services on the wall, bridal props in the corner, etc.. We were hoping to get a Shellac manicure ($26 says the sign outside their shop) and there was a nice selection of colors from various nail brands (I went with CND#6 for that nice festive holiday red). CONS - Oh boy. My nail lady pulled out an obviously used nail file kit and started using it on me. I asked her if that nail kit is new and she nodded. Umm...I can see someone else's nail buff residue on the buffing block as well as the file. She started filing my nails with this old nail kit. I looked over to my friend who had a really bad week at work, she was smiling as she was picking out her nail color. "Jenny, don't freak out. Your friend is enjoying herself. Just wash your hands with hot water and soap after she's done filing your paws", echoes a voice in my head. I did that. For the rest of the mani session, my nail lady looked grumpy, did not offer a smile or any eye contact. My friend had the salon owner, and the owner basically used the entire time to advertise her business. "You see on the TV screen, we have a fun slideshow of all the bridal parties and birthday parties we ever did!" "You should really have your next event at our salon!" "We can close the store and host an unforgettable birthday party for you!" This went on for a good 20 minutes. My friend and I were sitting right next to each other at the nail bar so I had the honor of hearing her salon promotions as well. So much for catching up with my friend! On the second coat of my shellac polish, my nail lady SHOVED the machine into my nail, smearing it a bit. She muttered an apology and tried to fix it. When another lady (the arm massage lady) came by, my nail lady spoke in Vietnamese, "Oh my gosh, how annoying, I was painting her nails and this girl just smears her polish against the machine." What the fuck. Just because I don't speak Viet doesn't mean I don't UNDERSTAND Viet. I didn't say anything, since one part of me wants to know what else she would say while the other part of me is pissed off that she is blaming it on me. She left after fixing my nail, without a word. Arm massage lady greets me with a smile and starts to slather my arms with warm lotion as she stares off into space, clearly bored. When it came time to pay, they charged us extra for the old nail kit (my friend told me in the car that her nail kit was also used on someone else) and another dollar extra for using a credit card. We both tipped but agreed we will never come back. POINTERS - If you are into getting charged for old nail kits that have been used on someone else, grumpy and bored nail ladies who clearly hate their job, getting blamed (in another language haha) about something THEY fucked up on, and an owner who constantly advertises her business throughout your nail session -- COME HERE! read more

Last night was my first time at Mimosa (and my last). I was there with a bunch of bridesmaids and the bride to prep for this weekends wedding. I was certainly curious on how they would handle our rather large party but It was insisted that they have parties like this all the time. Now, after reading some other reviews here I see that I'm not the only one to have this experience. Promoting ones business is understandable but I would recommend doing it by providing great service. When, I assume the owner, began instructing all of us to take a group photo and the bride explained over and over that not everyone had arrived, she was relentless. "We have to take the photo now.. we have to take it now" She wouldn't leave it alone! She even pulled up photos on their TV to show all of the photos they take for these events and we continued to say no... this went on FAR too long. We came in to relax, watch a movie and get our nails done. There was nothing relaxing about my experience. Your employees had a scowl on each and every one of there faces (I caught one on camera if you'd like to see). The movie had music playing over it the whole time and I'm pretty sure my instant karma for standing up for my friend was your team taking it out on my cuticles. There wasn't enough staff to get us all started and we started about an hour late because of this whole PHOTO fiasco. I arrived at 6:30 and didn't leave until 9:30. That's 3 hours of a sour stomach and defensive anger in my heart. PROS: They put three layers of color and I kinda liked that. Oh, and when I put my sandals on to leave, one of your employees was sweet enough to do my sandal straps for me and then smiled. She got you that second star. You might have a completely different experience if you come here alone. I don't recommend it for large parties... actually, I'm never going to recommend this place for anything. Oh yeah and they do like to ask you for cash payments even though they take card (and charge $1 for using card). read more

I quote my friends who went in for a reservation of a party of 10 for a bridal nail experience. 1. They didn't give complementary mimosas and charged $7 for a glass 2. My friends wanted group pictures and were 'encouraged' by the staff to hold the mimosas for photos but was told not drink them if you didn't buy them. I'm guessing after everyone has breathed on the mimosas it'll be sold to the next unsuspecting client who wants one. 3. One of my friends was charged $25 for clear nail polish application. 4. Another one of my friends who's family own a nail shop said the manicures were pretty poorly done. Very unevenly applied. After hearing these things I'm staying away from this place. I am not a seasoned pedicure professional. I have a job where my feet rarely see the light of day and I like to go hiking. I just don't indulge all that often, but after my experience at Christina Day Spa, I just might treat myself a tad more. They offer you a beer or wine, your own pedi kit with a buffer and file (for a $1 extra), plus flip-flops to go home, the total was $21 with the kit. My pedicurist(?) was quick, gentle, and my toes look fabulous! My polish has yet to chip and it's been three weeks...that's a serious record for me. The chairs are the standard kind with massage, but they have this cute glowing feature where you put your feet, as if you're immersing your toes in glowing space juice instead of just warm water. The massage was great! The last time I had a foot & leg massage at a competing mani/pedi place, it felt like they were beating up my shins, not here. I was so relaxed after that I melted down the street, baring my cute toes for all to see. I will DEFINITELY be back, and I'd like to bring some friends for a gossip-n-pamper session. read more

The ladies working here are very nice. The salon is clean and brightly lit. Unfortunately, this is probably the #1, maybe #2, worst mani/pedi I've had. My cuticles looked ragged, and the polish was applied very thickly all the way to the edges. The thick application left streaks, as well. My pedicure was okay, although my big toe nails were inexplicably filed into half moon shapes, rather than straight across. This is my fault, since I had not specified the shape - but in years of getting pedicures, I have never had anyone do it this way. Although there were two women working on me, it took 1.5 hours. Hmm. I really appreciate all of my experiences at this nail bar. Let's break it down. Pros: Friendly manager/owner and staff. You smile at them and they smile at you. They suggest services but do not go overboard. MY NAILS LAST SO LONG (it's why I keep coming back!) I always leave feeling very calm, happy and relaxed. What a treat. Plus they always have "Gags" running in the background on TV. A few laughs always goes a long way with me. Cons: sometimes too busy to get in (fair enough) and I always get asked if I have cash (which I feel a wee bit guilty about saying no every time) BUT always a very positive experience and I really like it here. I've been to other salons and they barely talk to you at ALL or the nails need to be redone a week later! This has happened at multiple other salons when I get shellac, which is incredibly annoying. After living in south korea, I found myself addidcted to a quality manicure. I hate to say it, but I've become quite a gel manicure snob. Since living in the states for the last few years I've become acustom to manicure dissapointment, and started believing a quality gel manicure just wasnt possible anymore. That was until God heard my cries and brought me to Tracy at Mimosa. (Praises!) Tracy knows quality nail care. She grooms the nails very thoroughly and is excellent with painting the ENTIRE nail and not getting it on the skin. A gel manicure that lasts is decided in the details of how the manicurist paints and if they are thorough about sealing the ends of the nail with paint and top coat. Tracy 'nails' it every time. As long as Tracy is painting my nails, I will definetly be back on my bi-weekly manicure game at mimosa. read more

I highly recommend this place if you're looking for two things... 1. The most energetic and organized hostess for a small party. The owner pulls out banners, cupcake towers, arches and even will take pictures of you when you get there and while you're still there out them into a PowerPoint to play while you're getting pedicure so you can relive the moment you just lived 5 minutes ago. So adorable. So if you're looking for a spot to have a small birthday party, bridal shower or even work gathering this is a perfect place. 2. You enjoy borderline abusive massages. I love a strong massage but everytime I've been and every women I've watched gets a massage that consists of literally hitting the bottom of your feet... I can't tell if it just hurts so good or just hurts... Then the wax is a few degrees too hot... Ouch! For the atmosphere this place is nicer than your average nail salon and I love the bar theme... Menus, an actual bar where you get manicures and mimosas with your pedi! Despite the bruising you may walk away with your nails will look great, you'll be treated like. Queen or king, and you're in a great part of town so definitely come here and try it out for yourself! read more

I love Mimosa! For those of you planning an "all-girls" party (for bridal showers or birthday parties) I think this place would be perfect. Really clean, petite, and classy. I get my nails done pretty often, yet this is (seriously) the only place I've returned to time and time again. Amy is the owner and oh-so-wonderful. She used to work at Dosha so she's trained wayyy beyond the usual nail shops and gives an amazing eyebrow wax (and at $10 it can't be beat)! She's always peppy and offers great customer service (something you might not get at other family-owned/small salons). She and her girls (in their bright yellow aprons) are always more than accomodating, too - sometimes I'll request a detailed mani-pedi; other times I'll want to skip the leg/hand massage (for an express job when I'm in a rush). It's hard for me to understand why the reviewers below had a bad time - from my own personal experience the staff have always been friendly (but not chit-chatty) and skilled. If I want a touch up (or a smudge happens) I bring it up and they're always happy to comply. I'm not a big drinker so I can't attest to the champagne, but I will say the drinks always seem to be generously flowing (green tea for me)! They don't seem stingy, so I'm sure if someone asked for a refill they'd hook it up. I've tried salons that range from $$$$ to $, but Mimosa is the only place where all the pieces of the beauty puzzle (location, price, and service) fit. read more
