Cute, diner-style breakfast in little Italy. We sat in the outdoor booths which are great for people watching and enjoying the beautiful SD weather! After hearing mixed reviews about the food I was hesitant to give this place a try, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. The chorizo, bacon, and sourdough bread were all high points, especially the chorizo. The coffee was very good as well, with free refills. The eggs (both over-easy and omelette) were completely unseasoned which was a little odd, and the potatoes were just ok. The option to sub the regular hash for sweet potato and beet hash was interesting, but a little bland. Service was good and the food came out quick on a slow weekday morning. I'm not sure i'd wait in the long line that I often see outside Harbor Breakfast on a Saturday morning, but i'm glad to have a casual diner like this in Little Italy and hope to be back some time soon! read more

My husband and I wanted to try somewhere new with our dogs in their stroller as it indicated it is pet friendly. A younger lady said she would attend us & told us to wait a minute. She said as gone for five minutes until an older lady attended us and took us to our booth. We waited 20 minutes just for anyone to ask us for drinks.. the waitress never asked us , we had to approach her. Food then proceeded another 40 minutes to wait. The older lady then freaked out to not have my dog sniff her as she is allergic. I am always going to respect another persons health issues but it was said in a rude tone. I'm sorry but if you are reaching over to give us our beverages, I would appreciate you letting me know ahead of time that you're allergic to dogs so I can make sure my dogs don't get near you for your own safety and health. The also have outside booths but in true Little Italy fashion there was a homeless man and his dog camping there, so we chose a table. The have a counter area inside as well as tables and booths. We ordered orange juice, the French toast with a side of bacon. Orange juice was good with pulp. Toast was really good, crispy edges with a soft center. The bacon was crispy but still tender. It arrived cold which was disappointing. Service was adequate. They are dog friendly outside but didn't offer water. Parking is street parking with meters, if you can find it. read more

That was a short-lived transition as this Little Italy corner breakfast spot was briefly taken over by Gooseberries. Within a couple of months something awry occurred, and the old Harbor Breakfast owners reclaimed the business. I even asked one of the workers what happened, and she was mum with her response. I had not visited before all this went down so everything seemed the same with the layout. Despite the breakup, I noticed on the top right corner of the menu that Gooseberries' buttermilk biscuits and jam were still being served. Breakfast plates, omelettes, sides, baja specials, and lunch items were the food categories. I chose the first breakfast plate listed which was the signature Harbor Plate. I customized the contents by asking for two eggs sunny side up, chicken-apple sausage, beet-n-sweet potato hash, and a buttermilk biscuit with the Gooseberries jam. The eggs were meh while the sausage had a mild flavor profile. The deep purple color of the beet and sweet potato hash was unique. Some added spices would have been nice to perk up the hash. The biscuits and jam were the stars of the plate. The round biscuit looked dry from the outside, but it was soft and moist on the inside. The jam was a less sweet version of strawberry preserves. The service from the waitstaff at the counter where I sat was fine. For the food quality and price, I gave a 3.5 star rating for my meal at Harbor Breakfast. read more

So this was kind of hit and miss. The service was okay. It's a diner atomosphere, with a big counter in the center. I had the homemade Corned Beef Hash which was greasy. The eggs were overcooked. The owner was incredibly rude. I ordered what was advertised as "freshly squeezed orange juice," but it was clearly poured from a jug and tasted like concentrate. It was nothing like fresh-squeezed juice. I took one sip to see if I liked it, but it tasted awful, so I politely asked if I could return it. When my bill came, I noticed I was still being charged for it. The owner came over and said, "You took a sip of it, so I can't take it back." I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to know they don't like a drink without tasting it first. I explained that I've never been to a restaurant where I couldn't return an item after one sip if there was something wrong with it, and I even apologized to avoid any conflict. Despite that, she remained rude and eventually said she would only charge me half ($4.50). I agreed just to de-escalate the situation. Unfortunately, after that she went back to her seat at the bar and continued talking about me. I politely asked her not to, which only seemed to upset her more. It can also be rather busy so you may have to stand in line outside for sometime. The food was good. Food didn't take too long despite how busy they got. We had an excellent breakfast. Our waitress was very sweet and the food was tasty. Coffee was always full! Halfway through breakfast this group of rude hens walked in. They had a dog in a bassinet and the manager, Shelly, kindly asked that they move to another table so that the dog (in a bassinet) wasn't blocking the fire exit. Boy, they did not like that, especially Jenna. They were EXTREMELY unpleasant to the manager who handled the situation with such poise and grace. The only way she could have handled this better would have been to remove them from the establishment completely. The group stuck around continuing to talk down to the staff and bragging loudly about getting kicked out of other restaurants and crapping their pants from drinking and eating candy. Stumbled upon this gem while taking our morning walk through little Italy. Got a beautiful window seat and service was great! We were amazed by the quality of the food. We ordered Crab Benedict with this unbelievable creation of Beet & Sweet Potato, never had tried it till that day and my my, it was amazing. I just found a new favorite cafe in San Diego! The Harbor Breakfast is a breath of fresh air in the sea of artisanal restaurants along the San Diego waterfront. The manager, Shelley, is the nicest lady. She greeted me, checked in on me multiple times, as well as her waitress, Maria. I coughed at one point, and Maria went out of her way to give me a cough drop. Together, they provided top-tier service without any issues or delays. It's til bad this place has such inconsistent reviews. Sure it was insanely busy during the farmers market but that's expected. I usually get pancakes for the first time I visit a new joint for breakfast but instead I got the biscuits and gravy. I'm used to frozen biscuits warmed in the microwave and smooth flavorless paste for gravy so I was completely blown away when I could see chunks on my plate as it was sitting at the pick up window. The flavor was unlike any gravy I've ever had, even my own gravy couldn't compare flavor wise. And the biscuits looked, felt and tasted scratch made. No wonder they're only served on the weekends. Overall a fantastic food experience. As for the front of house staff, I get why other people gave them bad reviews. I think it's less about their attitude or work ethic and more about how entitled people are these days. They all remind me of those stereotypical waitresses from back in the day that were a little salty and crass but it was normal and almost expected. Harbor Breakfast is located in Little Italy on India and off Beech St serving up breakfast and brunch from the early morning at 7am and closing at 1pm. We came through on a Friday morning and ended up waiting in line for around 10 minutes. They have outdoor booth seating as well as a bar inside and tables and chairs to sit at to enjoy your meal. The breakfast here is pretty intense and offers a variety of options to choose from. I ordered the single biscuit with sausage gravy with 2 eggs fried easy with sweet potato hash browns with beets. The food came out quick and all at one time. The biscuits and gravy were fabulous, and the over easy eggs were fried to perfection. The star of the show was the sweet potato hash browns with beets. They were fresh, sweet potatoes that were shaved and grilled. The vibrant colors got me excited to eat them, and the flavors were immaculate and needed no salt and pepper. The other dishes we ordered were the pancakes and the seafood frittata in which I heard it was out of this world! The service was great, and the waitresses were all nice and friendly and kept the water and coffee glasses full. We wanted to go to Morning Glory up the street but the wait was an hour and 15 minutes so we decided to try this place instead. When we walked in they sat us at the counter and we were fine with that but it was very hot in the room and it took a while to get service. After reading the menu I got really excited that they actually had biscuits on the menu and I wanted to try a biscuit with my hash but they said they only had biscuits on weekends and it was a Monday. Nowhere on the menu did it say that biscuits were only on weekends so I was really miffed. Not only did I not get to eat at the restaurant that I wanted to but they didn't even have so much as a biscuit as an option, when it would have been the only redeeming factor in choosing this restaurant. Instead of softening the blow, they just told me very matter of factly that they didn't have biscuits on Mondays. I had the corned beef hash and my partner had a hamburger because it was already close to 11:00 at that time and neither one of us could really taste our food. Even after adding salt to the fries or salt to my corned beef hash, were we able to taste anything. I was not really sure at this point if they really depended on repeat traffic. or if it was simply the overflow of people that couldn't get into Morning Glory, but, either way, it wasn't worth the $52. read more
