the beautiful view of the harbor

It takes me a couple of tries to really review a place. After my 4th time back here I'm a fan, that's how you know this place values quality. The shrimp is fantastic and the fish just pairs well with the 3 sauces they let you try! The lovely people that run this place makes you believe this is home. (small tip, I ALWAYS get the small clam chowder on the side. Trust me it's worth it.)

Counter service restaurant right on the water in the harbor. Probably the best fish and chips I've ever head!! Cole slaw was good as well. Had bottled beer available. Cocktail sauce had no horseradish in it that I could taste. It was more like ketchup and hot sauce I will definitely go back next time I'm in town!!

Small Fish & Chips ($14) - The highlight was the batter, which was perfectly crispy. I wish it was a thicker cut of fish, but it was still so good and paired well with their tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I also appreciated how thick the fries were, but they could've had more seasoning.

I've had this restaurant bookmarked for about 15 years. Lack of parking can really deter me from visiting a place. Well, today I met my fish and chips connoisseur friends here. Parking wasn't that bad but it was a little walk. We all ordered the fish and chips. We had the Captain's special that came with 2 pieces fish, 2 shrimps, and fries. We had a nice seat outside by the water. The lady at the register was super friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. We all started eating. The first thing we all noticed was how greasy the fish(and shrimp) were. The fish was also pretty thin, not a nice chunk of cod like we are used to. The fish was very similar to a piece of tilapia. My husband and my friend had a hollow crust too as there was just batter and no fish on the ends. Overall, disappointing after waiting this long to try it.

This is are second time coming for lunch the food is great and you can sit inside or outside! The food is ordered at the counter and they call your number when ready! We both had Fish and chips but changed the chips to Onion rings!

Hands-down, my favorite place to get fish and chips. I love their coleslaw, although they do give you a very large portion! they have other good options if you are not a fish person. The staff are all friendly and I enjoy the outside seating facing the harbor.

Dont let the size fool you. Its mostly fried air.

Probably and easily the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Firstly, they only have cod for their fish and chips. If you know fish, you know thats the worst to have cause is not even fulfilling or meaty. Is a skinny strip covered with fried batter. The taste was horrible, I had to use extra salt and at least their fish sauce was good. I kept dipping the fish on it. Don't even get me started on the fries. Hard and slightly burnt. No flavor other than their avocado oil. Needless to say, I went to my room with a stomach ache that is lasting a little longer than I'd like. My escort had the fish tacos. Same, it look gigantic and he was so excited but it deflated as he took a bite. Same kind of deal a ton of fried batter and a skinny slice of cod. 50 bucks wasted. I don't recommend it at all. It was rather empty compared to the other spots and now I know why. Will not be coming back and I hope to forget the whole experience.

There's just something about Harbor Fish & Chips that feels like a little reset button by the ocean I come here when I need a mental break--grab a warm, *so good* clam chowder bread bowl and take a walk with that perfect harbor view. It's simple, peaceful, and somehow always exactly what I need. It's quickly become one of those little hometown magic spots that just makes life feel softer (and tastier)

Awesome! Not often do I say that, for an order at the counter, fast food place. But Harbor Fish & Chips was awesome! And sitting out by the Harbor watching the boats come and go and the setting sun, amazing! Full disclosure, I'm not a big fish fan, unless it's shellfish, I don't like the fishy taste and everyone tells you, "this doesn't taste fishy" and it does. And this was the best fish I've ever had. It was so delicious melt in your mouth and literally no fish flavor at all. We had the Fish Taco, it's big, hanging out on both ends with their fried fish. 5/5 Shrimp, battered and a little spicy (not hot just flavor) flavor to it. 5/5 Fish and chips, so tender and yummy! 5/5 Comes with fries or Cole Slaw. Cocktail sauce, Tartar sauce and katchup plus other available condiments. I noticed they had hamburgers and chicken sandwiches available as well, but truly you should try the fish! Must try place in San Diego for fast food!

Fish, shrimp and chips. So crispy and good

OMG I'm still dreaming of the food from here. Made a stop on the way to San Diego and I wish I had not because I want more! Lol The harbor was busy and parking can be difficult to find. The guy working the counter was welcoming and friendly and took our order quickly. There are quite a few tables inside and outside as well. We got the sampler plate which comes with fish, shrimp, fries, clam chowder and coleslaw. This was the best fried fish I've ever had. The batter was crispy with good flavor it didn't even need the malt vinegar or tartar sauce. Best clam chowder I've had to date and coleslaw was so fresh and tasty. I would definitely drive out of my way to come back and eat here again!

Bottom: Sampler Platter (1 Fish, 2 Shrimp, Coleslaw, Fries & Chowder) Top: 2 pc Fish & Chips (an extra piece given of fish)
    RACHEL G.

I think they have some of the best fish & chips in San Diego The fish is so delicious & the batter/fish ratio is perfect. It's not overly greasy or super thick of a batter. The combo specials are great, especially the sampler platter. The fried shrimp is also super good. Hearty portions, great coleslaw & always fast/friendly !

    Best fish ever

Excellent place for chips and coleslaw is amazing! The service and location are incredible

SUCH BIG FISHHH!! I think one of the biggest fish i ever had but it was as very good! They have plenty of seating indoor and outdoor and there is nearby free parking. Vibes are right at the beach so perfect for fish and chips. Im also obsessed with the coldslaw.

I recall it being a delicious and a wonderful dining experience. I have been looking forward to bringing my family and friends here all week. I am giving this restaurant 3 stars, because their food is still AMAZING and their staff is super nice and I believe deep down inside that they just had a REALLY OFF night. We had reservations for a party of 9 last night. The table was set up nicely and accommodated a few extra if needed, which I thought was cool. We started with some adult beverages: an Old Fashion, some Hotel Nacionals, a Fashionably Late, and a couple of beers. Everything started great. Dennis, our server was very cool and friendly and gave great suggestions. We ordered the mac and cheese sides and they were delicious with huge pieces of savory bacon in them. We also ordered the brussel sprouts which we never received and didn't even realize it until the very end when we received the bill because of all the other issues we had... but we'll get to that in a moment. But let's talk about what did go well... the delicious food we did get. We ordered the Pig burger which was sooo good and came with crispy fries. The fish for the fish and chips were 2 huge pieces and were delicious, came with yummy seasoned waffle fries and the tiniest tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I had to request 4 more for that amount of fish, but no big deal. Dennis brought out as much as we needed. Their ranch sauce is really good too. Don't judge just because it's a little peachy'ish and looks thousand island'ish. lt's still some very good ranch. My son said he really tasted the bitterness of beer in the fish batter but maybe it was just in that piece he had; I could not taste it in the piece of fish I ate. The short rib was really tender and delicious... the sauce was just a tad salty for my taste, but the mashed potatoes it sat on sort of balanced it out a little. The fried chicken thighs were really cooked well, juicy, crispy and seasoned perfectly. We ordered two Teres Major steaks. One rare with mashed potaoes, one medium rare with grits. The rare one came out medium and without any mushrooms, took FOREVEEERR to remake (the rest of the table was almost done with our meals...& not sure why it took so long since the restaurant wasn't that busy and it's a RARE steak). The one with grits came with mashed potatoes instead of grits. Dennis was super nice and apologetic and corrected both mistakes when we let him know. He then brought us a big bowl of grits. The manager (blonde gal) came over and apologized for the mistakes tonight, letting us know that usually does not happen, and let us know she'd be comping one of our steaks and would be bringing a dessert on them. We thought that was very nice of them. However, as nice a gesture. we never did receive that dessert. My husband handed Dennis his credit card before the bill arrived (before our friends could try to pay the bill) and not sure why but our bill never came, and we never saw Dennis again either after he boxed up our leftovers and took the card. We had to ask another server for our bill because we had been waiting for quite a while... and needed to head out as we were already late to meet friends at a lounge. The other server came back with my husband's credit card, the bill (that's when I finally noticed the brussel sprouts sides we never got but were charged), and let the server know. He immediately apologized and took it off the bill. So I'm not sure what happened last night at Flying Pig...missing and charged brussel sprouts, steak overcooked, missing mushrooms, mashed potatoes instead of grits, then a comped dessert promised but never delivered. WOW. I had to apologize to my friends. I was totally hyping up this place and it underdelivered. They automatically got their 20% gratuity for our party of 9 but anyone that knows me knows how much I absolutely love great service combined with exceptional food and that could have easily been a 30-35% tip had they been on their A game! We only come to Oceanside once a year. Maybe we will try again next year. Maybe not. This trip was about trying out a bunch of different restaurants and giving honest reviews on dishes/businesses we haven't tried before, or in a long time. Do better guys.

Right from the start, we had kids with us, but the hosts never mentioned or provided a kids menu. Later, the server gave us one only after we asked if they even had a kids menu. Honestly, it felt like we probably would not have seen it at all if we hadn't asked. The food itself was okay other then meats being really dried and corn half done in water, the soup was good but the service hurt the overall experience. After we got our food, we needed a few things throughout the meal, but our server was almost nowhere to be found. We asked another server for help, and he mentioned she was doing side work/closing duties. We were there around 8-9 PM, so that part is understandable, but someone should have communicated that another server would be helping our table. That felt like a pretty basic service mistake. We also ordered a Baja Bucket, but later noticed there was a holiday bucket for about $10 more that included more seafood and seemed like a much better deal. The server should have mentioned that option or at least tried to upsell it so we could make a better choice. Another issue was the salad/sauce bar. Nobody mentioned it to us at all. We asked for salsa, and the server simply brought some out instead of mentioning there was a salsa bar available. Small details like this really affect the dining experience, and I think we would have enjoyed our meal more if things had been explained properly. Lastly, the restaurant adds a 5% surcharge supposedly to pay employees better. But if customers are paying extra fees and menu prices are already going up, the service should reflect that. Comparing the menus from 2025 to 2026, the bucket prices already increased by around $10. At that point, it would make more sense to simply raise menu prices and let customers decide if the food and service are worth it instead of adding extra surcharges. Overall, the seafood okay, but the lack of communication and service definitely left a disappointing first impression

We arrived for breakfast just after 9 AM and it was not crowded at all. We were able to sit wherever we wanted. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has an amazing view of the Oceanside beach and pier. The indoor seating is an open air concept with their coffee bar and bakery at the front and a closed kitchen in the back. The weight staff was very professional and courteous. Ours was especially attentive and took the time to tell us what some of the more popular dishes are at breakfast time. The food was delicious. Their coffee was delicious! I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, and they were moist and surprisingly, very citrusy and slightly tart which was balanced with a few dollops of lemon curd that was on the plate. I also ordered a coffee cake, which I did not end up eating however, when I had it as a midnight snack later, it was delicious. It was so buttery, especially on top where the crumble was. It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty. My daughter ordered the Hawaiian style fried rice. We were pleasantly surprised that the spam on the plate is homemade spam and not the kind you get from the can. It definitely tasted a lot better than the kind you get from the can. Sidenote: I am a fan of the one you get on the can, however! The fried rice was fried with kimchi, pineapple, green onion, and toasted sesame oil. The plate came with a thin omelette on top. The portions are good, and if you are not too hungry, you can definitely share them. This place is also dog friendly, which I found to be great since I am the owner of a rat terrier. There were plenty of other customers with their furry friends chilling at their feet. In fact, the restaurant offers a pet menu with options like unsalted hamburger or unsalted and grilled chicken thigh. I am definitely going to go back when I'm in the area. I am excited to try other things on their menu. Enjoy!
