(+) The smell when you enter is intoxicating in a good way. Deep fried deliciousness. (+) Fish size. Are you serious? The fish were much larger than expected. As you can see from the picture I took, I had to add a fork to the shot to hint at the scale. (+) I went with the Captain Special because I was so hungry and 1 or 2 pieces didn't sound like enough. I got 2 fish, 2 shrimp. Both excellent. Filling. (+) Chips (fries) were fine. Tartar sauce okay. Coleslaw pretty good, not too much mayo and fairly fresh than typical slaw. Next time I'm trying sweet potato fires. The deep fried pickles were okay, a little too much breading I guess in one meal... but it was worth it. read more

Great fish and chips! Large pieces of fish definitely fills you up. We ordered take-out and they asked when we will be there and since we were staying at the WorldMark, which is just on the other side of tracks, they prepared them right away. It took me a few minutes to walk there and sure enough they were ready. Great service! Great food! read more

This place doesn't skimp out on the portion size. I bought fried zucchini thinking it would be cut up and fried, but they actually gave me the whole damn zucchini! 4 of them to the order! About the size of a ruler! The fish were that size to! The batter was oilier then I would of wanted it, but the crisp, and flavor of it won me over. With tarter sauce for dipping, I was in fish n chips heaven. Other tidbits: Fried pineapples - good dessert. not to overly sweet. just about right. deep fried with powder sugar. the fellas and I wanted the "best fish n chips in town" and the verdict was it was definitely better than average: the fish was light and thin breading but some bites had more breading than fish. the clam chowder was very watery (low viscosity) and tasted mostly clammy; it was missing some other spices I was expecting to taste. price was def a little steep but the freshness made up for it. not sure if I will come back because you can get some DELISH fish tacos for a dollar a many places in encinitas/cardiff read more

Ended up stopping here for lunch as the wait at Joe's crab shack was an hour. Line moved very quickly decent amount of items on the menu and prices were reasonable. Outside seating limited but we were able to find a table which was great. I had the fish and salad. You have your choice of 12 or three pieces of fish with a side salad beans or fries. Nice large piece of fish cooked perfectly. My family also tried the clam chowder in a bread bowl which was tasty. My family and I have been coming to Oceanside for years and on every trip we stop here. It's our favorite place to get fish and chips in town. There's a parking lot nearby and it's surrounded by other cute touristy shops and fancier restaurants. It's walking distance from the beach and the perfect place to spend an afternoon. The employees are a delight- there's even a cute man working the cash register. And the atmosphere is like a fisherman's dreamhome. If you're looking for the best place to get fish and chips- look no further! read more

Great view & good food. It is definitely a little pricy, considering they're not extraordinary but I say it's worth it due to the view and the restaurant vibe. It's family friendly (outdoors). However, there is a bar inside so I would say it can also be a casual date place too. Food: we didn't get to try their iconic fish & chips but we got their shrimp bucket which was pretty good ( but you have to peel the shrimps yourself which can get a little messy). Their tacos are good too but they are tacos -- you can't really go wrong with them. Serving size is not that big and ideal for one person (except the buckets-- I feel like they are good for two). Per person price is around $20. Parking: you need to park a little far, near the beach (5 min walk). It's also paid parking-- $6/2hrs. There's parking right near the restaurant but that's reserved for boats. Seats: my group was 11 people and we didn't have a reservation. It was Monday afternoon and we only had to wait ~10 mins for them to set up the table. read more

My wife, myself and our friends have been constant visitors to Harbor Fish and Chips for the past 7 years. As all of us are from England, we know what good fish and chips taste like. Harbor fish and chips is like going back home. And to make it better, the owners have kept prices in line so their food is great value. Finally, they have outside table seating that provides a great view of the harbor while you eat. read more

I've been going to here for years for fish and chips. The last two meals have been less than good. Greasy fish, lousy dry fries, more batter than fish, and filthy tables. I used water and napkins to clean the table off the white napkins were black after wiping down. The condiments area had not been cleaned for a long time. read more

Have been here a few times and recently took my parents here, and they have nothing but praises! I always get the Combo # 1, the Captain's special, 2 pcs of fish and 2 pcs of shrimp, and coleslaw. (You can choose 1 side, from salad, coleslaw, beans or fries) its a good portion for 1 person, batter is good and the fish and shrimp weren't oily. Coleslaw is creamy, exactly how I like it. My parents ordered the same thing, and my mom even said she does not mind eating this everyday! Its quick and easy, you order, pay and they call your number. Staff are nice and welcoming. Plenty of parking, it could get busy though during harbor events. read more

Fantastic fish and chips. We go eat at Harbor Fish & Chips at last once or twice when we are visiting Oceanside. When we went in Jan. I went outside my fish and chips order and tried the grilled fish. It was delicious. Highly recommend this eatery for anybody that wants fish and chips, clam chowder or fish. read more

The Fish was so GREASY it dripped off your hands every time you touched it.. The tarter sauce was boring, not sure what was in it, just a creamy something or other. The fries were soft and not crispy, like mashed potatoes on the inside. Too much money for a mediocre greasy meal. read more

I only go here for fish & shrimp. It's made fresh. And you can have as much tarter sauce or shrimp sauce as you want. I get it to go, and go down by the beach to eat. But they do have outside tables, if you can find a empty one. read more

It's acceptable food, but the quantity of fish in the battered fish and chips leaves much to be desired. The fish itself is a small piece and surrounded by huge batter surround, fried, but I'd say it's the smallest piece of fish I've had in a fish and chips dish in most of so cal. Not a place I'd go for same dish. Only game in town around this marina. read more

Classic yummy fried fish and "chips" aka French fries. So good! A must try for tourists and locals! They also have grilled fish, and my personal favorite the fish taco!! It has a giant piece of fish, and is topped with fresh slaw. So yep, the fish taco takes the prize here! The beer selection is just ok! Get a tap or 5 already! I've been here a number of times and enjoyed their food but today I was shocked that none of their staff were wearing masks. I'm appalled they would ignore the state and county mask mandate. I understand they can only ask their customers to wear masks but none of their counter and kitchen staff were wearing masks. With high numbers of infections continuing in San Diego County I will not patronize anyplace with such blatant regard for the health of our citizens read more

Awesome we got what everyone recommends the fish and chips. Good service, serving size and pricing. Location is awesome if you want to get some food and chill by the water. The staff was surprisingly super friendly and helpful. Facility is on the smaller size if your looking to go with a group. Right from the start, we had kids with us, but the hosts never mentioned or provided a kids menu. Later, the server gave us one only after we asked if they even had a kids menu. Honestly, it felt like we probably would not have seen it at all if we hadn't asked. The food itself was okay other then meats being really dried and corn half done in water, the soup was good but the service hurt the overall experience. After we got our food, we needed a few things throughout the meal, but our server was almost nowhere to be found. We asked another server for help, and he mentioned she was doing side work/closing duties. We were there around 8-9 PM, so that part is understandable, but someone should have communicated that another server would be helping our table. That felt like a pretty basic service mistake. We also ordered a Baja Bucket, but later noticed there was a holiday bucket for about $10 more that included more seafood and seemed like a much better deal. The server should have mentioned that option or at least tried to upsell it so we could make a better choice. Another issue was the salad/sauce bar. Nobody mentioned it to us at all. We asked for salsa, and the server simply brought some out instead of mentioning there was a salsa bar available. Small details like this really affect the dining experience, and I think we would have enjoyed our meal more if things had been explained properly. Lastly, the restaurant adds a 5% surcharge supposedly to pay employees better. But if customers are paying extra fees and menu prices are already going up, the service should reflect that. Comparing the menus from 2025 to 2026, the bucket prices already increased by around $10. At that point, it would make more sense to simply raise menu prices and let customers decide if the food and service are worth it instead of adding extra surcharges. Overall, the seafood okay, but the lack of communication and service definitely left a disappointing first impression

The host, Chris, told us to sit where we wanted, then he kindly moved my walker out of the way. Very soon our server, Oracio, came with menus and to take our beverage orders. Too many times we have to wait, but our drinks were delivered quickly. We chose one of their local craft beer offerings. Then he gave us a perfect length of time to study our menus and order. Then our dinners arrived, also quickly. As we ate, there was the nice bonus of a beautiful sunset -- with no pressure to turn the table. If you go here on a Tuesday or Friday, ask for Oracio. The food and beverages, and the ambience were all great, and the excellent service tied the whole experience together. We'll definitely come back.
