Apparently I was completely out of the know... I am so grateful to an old friend who I feel is perhaps more in the know about Harbor Freight because this store feels like it belongs to the generation just a few years prior to mine (I am Gen X FYI). The store even looks to be a bit aged....and this, friends, is NOT an insult especially with the youth of today bringing even more vintage back then my gen did! With a name that has the word "freight" in it, I immediately figured it was some giant over the stop place. My friend had given me coupons for Harbor Freight and I just figured - ok, I have no idea what this place even has but I do LOVE coupons - especially since one of them was for a pack of free batteries (AA or AAA) so yes please! They were some great coupons too and I was starting a great many projects through the inside and outside of my house. I figured this maybe Home Depot - ish...heavy on the "ISH". I pulled up and do find it terrible amusing that there is a strip club at the end of the block they are on because, of course there is... I parked my little city car in between two GIANT pickup trucks and was amazed at how small the store is. They use every spare space in there though! I walked up and down each aisle because I have no idea what they even carry. I tell you what - their prices are already crazy good for everything without coupons! And they have a little bit of everything - mostly tools but very handy stuff though their extension cords (oddly enough) seemed a bit pricey - that was it though. Everything else was so great. To give you an idea - I grabbed my free batteries J, large loppers, bypass loppers, hand pruner, a staple gun and a few other things for $41!!! The first thing I noticed upon entering Harbor Freight Tools is the oppressive, pervasive smell of off-gassing plastic. It's just fine for a quick visit, I hope, but I can't imagine what it's like working here, day after day, month after month, ... For me, personally, tools are things to be bought only when needed and then cherished and taken care of for a long, long time. If you don't need it, borrow it. Everything at which I looked was of such poor quality and materials that I'd be wary to use them in the first place, and nothing seemed like it'd last for very long. It's almost as though the entire store is dedicated to planned obsolescence and disposable tools. I was hoping to find well-sourced, interesting things at an inexpensive price, but what I found was a deeply depressing selection of tool-like garbage that soon will be befouling the landfill. This was my first time coming to this location. I had a great experience this evening. I had to ask a bunch of questions and get help hunting stuff down. Everyone here was super friendly and helpful. Harbor Freight Tools - I bought a bunch of stuff here today. Very happy - Hardware Stores Near Me - Hillsboro, Oregon

My husband and I went into the Hillsboro location, and there was an young man by the name of Thomas who was incredibly rude and short-tempered. He had insulted my husband by calling him a nuisance, and then at the register when we went to pay my husband asked what his name was and he had told my husband he didn't have a name and wasn't born with one he didn't have a name tag on either. Then my husband asked for the supervisor and this gentleman came out and told us his name was Thomas and sent him to lunch do not agree with how this was being taken care of. And hopefully something will be taken care of that very bad employee. read more

I have never encountered ruder staff members in my entire life. We purchased a tool chest, and while we waited for them to get it from the back, we were checking the measurements to decide which car to put it in. We asked how many pieces, he asked why, we told him it was because we didn't know if it would fit (in one of the cars) and he replied 'oh well', and walked away. I suppose once you've paid for it, you don't matter anymore. At out we asked about a coupon & she said 'that won't work' (no where was there a disclaimer that it wouldn't work on what we were purchasing) then we asked if there was anything that would, and she said 'I can't help you'. WHAT!? I've never encountered more complacent individuals, not even at the DMV. They were monotone, clearly careless about their jobs, and generally just miserable human beings. I will never shop there again. The harbor freight in Tigard is a better choice, but personally I've found the service at ACE, or Orchard Hardware Supply to be much friendlier and prices seem reasonable as well. I will never shop there again, and I urge you not to as well. It should not be acceptable to treat people this way, and they need to know that. read more

I went into Harbor Freight to buy an inexpensive replacement drill for my drill and bit set. I found the employees to be very helpful, concise and extremely polite. They even made sure that there wasn't anything that I had needed, and were sure to ask helpfully. The checkout person was also very polite and fast. I think the prices overall are quite good, and I noticed that some items were even lower cost, with a membership. I didn't buy the membership since I only go here about once a year, but it's nice to know that it's an option for regular industrial item and tool purchasers. Overall, I found it to be a positive experience, and I will come back soon for more tools. read more

I just asked an employee about battery powered gloves that they had on sale last fall and he said" No we haven't had them for years". W ell I told him that this was a good friend of mine, and he said that Good friend or not, they didn't carry then and he should no because he has horked there for 20 years. Well when I told him that the store had only been there for 5 years, he hung up on me. Reall good customer service huh? read more

Got a brand new power washer, for Christmas. Put it together, in April to use it, and it does not even have a spark. Their return police does not cover it because 90 days have passed. The manager Alex was rude and claimed I was being threatening, when I said that I was going to inform everyone that I know of their policy. Not sure how that can be threatening because it is their policy, not mine. I just do not want others to get their money confiscated when they have crap for products. read more

Okay so I went here to buy a small safe because we've shopped here for a ton of things and never had an issue and I realized when I opened it that one of the pegs on the bottom was broken so I went in to exchange it and at first everything was fine and the manager offered to get another one and he opened it so I could check it out before I took it and then that one was dented and chipped so I wanted to just grab one that didn't have a messed up box and I asked if I could just grab one and take the risk of it being wrecked again and the manager started being rude and making a huge deal about opening the box and wanted me to take the other wrecked one. So his response was "whatever take it and leave." I was with my mom and I had looked at her and we both just stood there for a second and he told us to leave again. Then I grabbed the safe and as we walked out he commented to my mom saying "yeah that's nice making your daughter hold it" wtf. Worst customer service ever. I work in customer service myself so really irritated how we got treated I'm sure if he was spending his money he wouldn't want something that was wrecked. Never going here again. read more
