The staff here is so helpful. Whenever I ask for a specific tool, they can point out the correct aisle. This is very rare in other chain store hardware stores where the employees don't try to remember their store layout. I've bought everything from measuring tapes, gloves, screwdrivers and power tools from this place. The weekly coupon books always have harbor freight deals so it's very effective marketing. I went today with a coupon for 20% savings. The magazine ariive yesterday. AFter waiting for 20 minutes in line, they said the coupon was expired- the date was not large enough to read. They scan it only. I called for the store manager, told her the story and said "sorry,too bad". It feels like a total scam to get a person in the store. How can a coupon be expired in one day? This Harbor Freight store has more tools than I even knew existed. They have just about anything you're looking for in tools. However their brand isn't quite the same quality as Craftsman, but it sure is cheaper. The employees are helpful and if they don't have something in stock they eagerly refer you to their sister store. It would've been nice if they had called over to check if they had it in stock though, not just said to go check there. I guess it doesn't hurt for me to call myself. They do not have a hug selection of things for hanging pictures on the walls or things you need for painting, though. I've checked. They have a coupon for free items with purchase in the paper and those coupon envelopes that come in the junk mail every month or so. My biggest problem with this store is the line is confusing and usually quite long. The employees do their best to move it along though. read more

The reason I'm giving it one star is the horrible store and customer service. I've recently visited a couple of times at the weekend and in the week: whenever I go the lines for checkout reach almost to the back of the store. Staff are slow and incompetent. This was by far the worst service I have ever had. I asked if they had a certain item on the floor. I asked an employee and he had to get a manager. The manager then told me they didnt have it. I found it myself on the floor 15 minutes later. When I got to the register there was no one there. It took me an additional 20 minutes before I got any help. When I found someone to help me they were socializing with some girl on the floor and some of what looked like their friends. I told the manager about it and he didn't seem to care much. Harbor Freight Tools works out fine for the amateurs working on various projects, that don't quite need the absolute best tools. They offer plenty of knock of brands that are all probably made in China that work reasonably well enough. She was attentive and was nice enough to let me know about a coupon for a free item I wasn't aware of. I ended up finding things I didn't know existed such as a doming kit for my crafts. This is a review of one of the Store Managers and his Customer Service. I went in over the weekend to buy a couple tools for my motorcycle. And I left with the Motorcycle Table Lift. They computers were down that day, so they had to call the bank, and verify you had funds, and then copy down your card manually like they used to do in the old days. This was Saturday Dec/14. Monday I check my account and see I had 2 charges for almost $425 pending. So I go into the store and they tell me that one is for the lift/tools, and the other was a hold the bank places, when the call was made. I was upset as christmas was approaching and I needed the funds for gifts. The manager Kevin McCormick was extremely helpful and said the funds should be back my midnight, and if it wasn't to call him tomorrow. Tuesday Dec/15 I call and tell him it hasn't been handled yet, so he sends my transaction information to his a accounting dept in the store. Wednesday Dec/16 I call him and tell him it still hasn't been taken care of, and he tells me he forgot his phone number and that his accounting people tried to solve it but the bank wanted ALL of my account information to handle the transaction. He then tells me he will personally take care of it. He called his companies merchant services, visas merchant services, wells fargo merchant services, spoke with 2 supevisors at Wells fargo, and got me my money back within the hour. So again this is just for the Manager and his customer service skills. I believe he went above and beyond to help me, and I honestly appreciated it. Especially with the holidays creeping up. Theres no such thing as customer service here. Everything that is sold in the store I can buy online or at another Harbor Freight nearby. The store is very small yet always a mess. I'm prone to dropping tools or losing them but with the price and quality, I don't beat myself up anymore when I drop a screw gun off a ladder and it shatters. The clean store also has clean bathrooms. The store is well laid out if you get their coupons, there's alot of $$$ you can save. Was driving down Lankershim today and noticed the big Harbor Freight sign and I got a little excited. I hadn't been to this side of the valley in a while and didn't know they had opened one up so close to where I lived. Had to stop and check it out. Today we visited the store for the first time and were very disappointed with the service. Cashier named Jenifer was rude to us. We were unaware with the line organization on the checkout and there was not a single sign that explains the one, and so after we took the goods we need, we took a line near the first checkout we have seen. It took the long time for the cashier to service the other customer in front of us, and the time when they just talked with no meanwhile actions was the dominant in that process. After she finally finished with the customer, she turned to us and asked "what are you waiting for?" in the rude way. We answered that we're waiting for her to proceed our purchase. In the same rude manner she told us to go in the end of the line that gathered behind us near checkouts even though she saw that we were staying in line long before the other line has formed. We have nothing else to do than to go to the end of the line. Moreover, when it was finally our turn, we got to the same cashier. By all her actions he showed dissatisfaction in serving us. We have never seen such a rude and irresponsible service. Wouldn't recommend this store to anybody until their staff is so unprofessional. read more

I recently retired and I have always dreamed of having a work shop to tinker around in. As a hobby I have become a master at sharpening fine swords, cutlery and scissors. From scratch I began build my shop and almost by accident I stumbled across HARBOR FREIGHT on Lankershim in North Hollywood. I was absolutely amazed that they had the majority of equipment I needed. So I dusted off my wallet and purchased everything I needed. The whole experience was made even better by the service I received. Murray was very attentive and catered to my every need, he really took the extra steps to make sure I was happy with the sale. Kevin (the manager) stepped in toward the end of the sale and and even helped me wheel everything I bought to my truck. I have set up my shop now and while I was doing that I had to make a few exchanges which were simple and with no problem. After my personal experience with HARBOR FRIGHT I haven't any hesitation to highly recommend them to anyone. read more

However one particular women was not allowed to return an item w.o a receipt. Harbor Freights because the manager /owner accused the elderly woman of attacking him a few months ago. Claiming the short 5'6 woman hit him appx 6'4 in the head ! Wait there's more while store manager shouted Pointed out tha one occasion that she was African American. when questioned why he didn't contact police; if he had been attacked . He had no explanation and quickly changed the date subject. He continued to slander the customer. Sadly the The manager made making reference to the fact that the women is homeless. I went to the store the first time a month ago. I was excited to see all their tools and sales and I really wonder how good their tools are. I bought a pole saw to trim trees and after one use all the oil leaked out of the unit so it had to be replaced. I bought a combo drill/flashlight. It had to be returned because the battery would not unlock from the flashlight. The release button was broken. The drill was never used and the flashlight was used once. I bought a small air compressor and it produced very little air pressure. It was returned and I bought a multi tool and when the box was opened I noticed the tool was missing the attachment that holds the blades on the unit. When the pole saw works and the multi tool work it does a good job but I got real tired of having to return these tools. I received a head lamp flash light gift when I bought the tools and that never worked too. Hey look they have good deals when the tools work. These tools are cheaply made in China and 1/2 these tools do not work when new or are missing parts. Harbor Freight has nice people working there and I had no problems with my returns. Just make sure you keep all your receipts. read more

I know the rep HF gets about their power tools or anything that requires power. I have to say most the stuff I've bought there I have gotten very lucky with. I have air tools that I've used a lot for years that last. Along with a jog saw, compound miter saw, and blast cabinet. I use these tools weekly and an never disappointed. I guess I take care of my tools better than most. I have and still have snap on and Mac tools, but those break just as much. I've been replacing hand tools with the pittsburg brand hand tools at HF and they do the EXACT same job. No different, only difference is about $15 a wrench. I would say they have crappy stuff for certain projects but as fAr as hand tools and air tools I'm sold. This place has been pretty busy since it opened. Seems understaffed but when I was looking for multiple tools in their paper they were able to help me find them, and one guy even went in the back to grab a pair of pliers that were gone off the shelves. I bought and have the best tools for wood, metal and auto, harbor freight just makes it more practical to get more tools in your garage read more
