I really wanted to love this place because the food was genuinely delicious. Every dish we ordered was flavorful, and the restaurant itself was fairly clean and well-kept. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed what could have been a great dining experience. Our server, Winnie, was incredibly rude, grouchy, and seemed very selective about who she chose to be friendly toward. We watched her laugh and engage warmly with other tables while our party was met with cold, dismissive service from beginning to end. Our bill was over $250, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect basic kindness, professionalism, and to be treated with the same respect as every other customer. Good service doesn't require going above and beyond--it simply requires treating people with courtesy. It's disappointing because the kitchen clearly knows what they're doing, but poor service can quickly ruin an otherwise excellent meal. I would gladly return for the food, but I'd seriously hesitate if it meant receiving the same level of service again. I hope management addresses this, because the restaurant has so much potential. read more

We heard that Harbor Village has a new owner so we decided to try it. We were happy to find out the quality of their dim sum was very good. We expect the usual selections to be good. The pork hash, shrimp dumpling and half moon were exactly as we expected. The char siu bao was a little disappointing because it lacked in flavor. But, we discovered a very unique item... pan fried shrimp & bean curd roll. The crispy thin bean curd wrap provided a surprising texture to this dish. I returned just to order this. It's hasn't been crowded when we ate there. Which is nice. The glossy, colored ordering sheet made it feel like a fancy place to be. But, the dishes can be pricey. A dish would range from $6.85 to $8.75 with most at the lower price. There's lots of free parking which is always a plus! read more

Wow my last review was from 4 years ago? During covid time? It's time for an update! First of all they some dim sum items that are hard to find at other dim sum restaurants, for example mochi rice ball, lotus bun and pan fried taro cake with shredded taro instead of mashed taro. We order 2 of them: taro cake and lotus bun. I love that the taro cake has so much taro in it. You can actually taste the taro not just taro mashed with rice flour. I think I've only it being prepared this way here and at Honolulu Seafood restaurant. Lotus bun: it got the perfect ratio of the bun and the lotus paste. And they added the right amount of sugar so the paste was not overpowered by the sweetness. I could still taste the lotus seeds. I also ordered the shrimp and bean curd roll: The tofu skin was very thin and crispy. Shrimps were fresh. They also added some crunchy vegetables. Dip that into Worcestershire sauce. Man I was in heaven! Beef chow fun with vegetables was also great and very filling. They gave us lots of beef and vegetables. Don't be fooled by how the beef looked they're really soft. After hiking in the blazing sun, my friend and I were ready to eat some yum yum dim sum! We were both looking forward to trying this place. It's one of those places you don't really go to unless you live in Hawaii Kai or are passing through. It's way less crowded than the dim sum places in town, and the food is just as tasty. They also have live crab and lobster, if that's your thing (I need to come back here with my sons). We came here for dimsum around 9:30am after a morning hike. They have a sign by their door stating the dimsum is only Mon-Sat. I'm not sure if it's an old sign but they have dimsum available on sundays. We walked in with a party of 9 and they let us know kindly they can seat us as long as we finish by 11am since they're booked out for the day of bigger reservations. That was nice of them. They had their regular menu and a paper menu to write down the quantities of each dish you would like. We ordered a lot. The food came out pretty quick, most of them at the same time so our table was full. The spacing of the restaurant is decent, enough room to move around. And the big table fit all 9 of us perfectly. The only downfall is they don't have the glass turntable to move the food around so there was a lot of passing over dishes. For the food, my favorite is the salted egg custard buns and the chive dumpling. They even have a unique dish, char siu mochi. The combo works and it was tasty. The dishes are on the pricier end, but plentiful. I do recommend to check it out. There aren't too many Chinese restaurants on this side of the island. So this is a great place to get your dimsum fill. read more

A hidden gem for Chinese food in Hawaii Kai is hidden in the back parking lot on the Lunalilo street side. At first glance walking in the front door. You can hear the Chinese chatter. So you know it Chinese approved. A lot of parking as long as the other stores are not busy. Walked in and not realizing how big the restaurant is. Greeted right away and seated. Went here mainly to try out their dim sum. You order on a paper order form with names and photos of the dish. The photos helps because the names of the dishes might not be what we are use to. There is no dim sum cart to order from. You mark what you want and how much you want on an order sheet. The food is fresh and hot to your table and not in a warm cart. So expect awhile for your ordere to come. But it's worth it. Ordered: Bean Curd Roll: Comes with two large rolls which was nice and firm. Not like the soft soggy ones you usually get. I would first order one for two people at first because the rolls are large. Deep fried taro: Nice and fluffy crunchy outside and soft flavorful inside. Chicken feet: Don't judge me. But they were three in one serving and they must have been huge Chickens. Again, not your usual soft and soggy dish. Very good. Deep fried mochi: This is football looking with pork in them. Steamed taro: This is like the Steamed taro cake but they shredded the taro and then cook it. It adds a different texture to what I'm use to. But it was good. Chow fun: Good and served hot off the wok. Not your traditional oyster sauce chow fun. Pros: Food served hot and fresh. Con: Hot and fresh means it takes time for the food to get to you. Be careful there is small dried shrimp in the dim sum, my wife is allergic and unaware. Good thing she didn't have a reaction. Would I go back? Looking forward to it. read more

I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but this felt like a particularly egregious experience. My dad and I hadn't come for dinner since their most recent ownership change, but wanted to revisit a restaurant we used to frequent. The food was fine, but not as good as we remembered it. Prices have increased a fair amount, which is to be expected, but our experience was not good and felt chaotic. Alex, who seated and took our order, was snarky and unkind and hardly took the time to even look at us as he did so. Aside from writing down our orders (and forgetting part of it), he never came back. I could see they were busy with takeout orders and new customers coming in the door, but there was a lack of service and ability to manage a restaurant that was maybe 40% full. The phone rang all night and Alex let it ring and did not attempt to answer or at least silence it. We probably had about 50% of our dinner to the sound of that phone ringing. The table next to us had also noticed this and commented to us that they were ready to go and answer the phone for them. This is not to mention that the credit card machine was not working (again, not the fault of the restaurant), but multiple tables were seated and takeout orders were placed without Alex informing these customers of this. These things happen and it isn't the restaurant's fault, but it felt borderline unethical to seat and take orders without letting their patrons know that they would need to have cash. One woman came in to pick up her takeout order and Alex informed her of the credit card situation and she did not have enough money. He asked her "what can you do for me?" That woman ended up leaving without her order. I had also overheard several other customers who came for takeout asking if each other if they knew about the credit card machine being down before they came in (they both told each other no, they had not known). These were just a few examples of the poor service that I saw, and it was certainly not limited to this. I also want to note, the other servers in the restaurant were perfectly fine and attentive when we could get their attention. We waited for 15-20 minutes trying to get our bill and some boxes, but were unable to find anyone since it seems like Alex was responsible for our part of the restaurant. The other servers were quick to help us get boxes and the bill once we could flag them down, otherwise we probably would have waited an additional 15+ minutes. Unfortunately, there aren't any other restaurants with this type of cuisine in Hawaii Kai. We'll probably have to go out farther for future dinners, but it will be worth it to not repeat the experience that we had tonight. read more

Still a solid place for dim sum :) (the baked char siu baos are the best!) but I thought I'd update my review because we have discovered their food is all good too lol. We did take out multiple times, and my family and I all love: Peking duck, egg flower soup, lemon chicken, steam fish fillet, and tenderloin beef Chinese style. Oh! And my ultimate fav: steamed stuffed tofu with shrimp. I hope this place never closes because it's the only Chinese/dim sum place in Hawaii Kai lol. We were planning to go to the beach but as happens on the island it started to rain. So we turned off the highway into Koko Plaza and came upon this wonderful dim sum restaurant. As decor it had a large fish tank filled with very beautiful fish and the Nekokats in the window as well as throughout the restaurant. Waiter came and sat us quickly at a table that was comfortable for us near the window. We ordered the spare ribs, steamed Chinese broccoli, tofu wrapped beef, meatballs, Crystal shrimp, barbecue pork steamed buns, And for dessert the sweet rice sesame balls filled with sweet red bean paste. There were three of us. It didn't take long for us to inhale the dim sum because it was well-made and very tasty. Each dish was about $6.95 and we had a pot of jasmine tea. We were able to eat everything and be back out in the sunshine in less than 45 minutes. It was the ideal lunch break for us after being on the highway. Service was attentive; at one point one of us raised a hand just to ask for hot sauce and two different waiters saw the signal. Wonderful. read more

Saturday July 19, 2025 we came here for lunch after being a vendor at the Koko Marina Craft Fair and we been here many times in the past. Plenty parking. Service was friendly and fast. We ordered right away and the food came out in a very short while. Food was good. Except the House Noodle was really salty. Normally, we don't complain and say, anything. But, we just wanted to let them know. That's all. The lady waitress said, it's a little salty and it shouldn't be really salty. She took away the order and made a new to go order to take home. I attended a dinner here to celebrate a friend's birthday. Wonderful company over a multiple course dinner. Started with a Chinese chicken salad, then on to gau gee, duck in a bun, pan friend noodles, eggplant, sweet and sour shrimp, sweet and sour pork, beef vegetable, salt and pepper pork, and ended with a custard tart. For take out orders: My parents went to Harbor Village 3 days before Christmas to order a couple plates of food for pick up on Christmas day at 11:45am. They told my parents to pay when they pick up later. Come Christmas day, my dad showed up at 11:30am for pick up. He paid first and they told him the food is going to take 30 minutes. The restaurant was busy which we understood because it was Christmas day. There were a few parties before my dad waiting for their takeout orders as well. But my dad got the order at 1:52pm. 2 HOURS later. Come to find out from the other people waiting, that they start cooking your order when you pay. And some of them were waiting 1.5 hours when my dad got there. So what was the point of ordering it ahead of time? I myself have ordered take out from them and had no issue but it was a regular day and just a few orders. My advice is just to avoid this place during holidays. Any other day would be fine I guess. But waiting 2 hours for take out after we had pre-ordered it and they told us 30 minute wait, is kinda crazy. The food isnt worth it to be honest. read more

The flavors of local Chinese food vary by restaurant. What we've had here is delicious! We started with take out and we were really impressed with their pan fried noodles with chicken. Generous with veggies it was full of flavor. So we stopped by last night for an early dinner and continue to be impressed. We had the MaPo Tofu and the sizzling platter of shrimp with black bean sauce. You can order white rice by the bowl so it's easy to order more. My husband would have were it not for me sharing mine with him; just to sop up all the flavorful sauce from the MaPo Tofu. The restaurant is very generous with the shrimp as well. Service is great. Everyone working together as a team to be sure we got everything we needed. Hot tea is available without an additional charge. Love this place! They do a lot of take out business. read more

Location: Koko Marina Shopping Center near Brianna Nails on the wallgreeens and Leonard's area. Lots of parking at Koko Marina. During the day they have dim sum, both good to eat in or take out. If you have leftovers, they do charge for take out containers. Generous portions of dim sum. The steamed chicken buns and the deep fried taro are really tasty. The steamed spare ribs were tasty but fattier than expected. The broth in the stuffed dumpling soup was surprisingly bland, especially considering how tasty everything else was. Service was great and staff dressed nicely. I'll lead with the good. The service was tremendous. The workers were extremely attentive, kind, and even funny! I felt welcomed and appreciated as soon as I walked through the doors... However, the interior was the tiniest bit dirty and dusty, outdated, and cold (both literally and figuratively). There's a blandness to the ambiance that could easily be fixed with some warmer lighting and a splash of color -- dark red, perhaps? But overall, there's nothing that makes this place feel special. The least they could do is go around and sweep up the dust bunnies clinging to walls, picture frames, and doors. Lastly, the food, while not necessarily bad, was lacking in flavor and seasoning; and our noodles were overcooked and mushy. I wish there were more positives to my experience, but alas... They are definitely still open for business. They are absolutely too busy to answer the phone. Christmas day, gotta eat dim sum and fried rice! Tried some new items (new to us) today. Seafood spinach dumpling (very nice), Young Chow fried rice (super delicious) and stuffed dumpling in soup (sooo good). The stuffed dumpling was enormous, the soup had a gentle flavor I really enjoyed it. We also ordered pork shu mai, shrimp scallion and crispy car siu bao. Everything was served piping hot. I saw the owner helping to run food and wash glassware. They were busy. Too busy to take a single phone order. Too busy to allow main menu take out orders (dim sum only). Be patient, the staff is truly doing a good job getting the food prepared and to your table, considering the crowds. read more

New ownership isn't always a good thing as some might believe. Harbor Village Cuisine recently switched over in the past year, and boy, I must say, the dim sum was incredibly disappointing. The staff and menu and interior remains the same. Kama'aina discount still applies! Gotta ask of course! Discounts are never automatic. Starting with the Pan Fried Chives Cake... The filling was bland and the wrapper was unusually soft and did not crisp up even the pan fried part. At least it had decently sized pieces of shrimp.. Next was the Steamed Seafood and Chives Dumplings. It's the same bland filling and the same thin and soft wrapper. In this case, the softness of the wrapper was fine, but the blandness was not acceptable. The Baked Golden Cake was a disaster. It was clear to me that the heat was too hot because the outside sesame crust was dark brown, the size was smaller than usual, and the inside was sticky and doughy. And quite bland as well!! The Chicken Feet was okay. Meat was soft and tender. Very one note though. Just garlic and oyster and soy sauce? Where's the fermented black bean and chili? Is there supposed to be black pepper in this? The Steamed Beef Ball was actually not too bad, but quite different from other places. The color was very light--as if it was mixed with mostly pork. It was JUST meat. No water chestnuts, scallions or cilantro. They were juicy and tender, but one note flavor. The Pork Spareribs were strange as well. The pieces were so big, and there was not enough cooking time, so the meat was not tender at all. The flavors were lacking as well. I see it, but the tastes do not come through at all. Lastly had the Fried Stuffed Tofu with Minced Shrimp from the regular menu. This was fried well, but don't you need some salt or flavoring on the tofu? Relying solely on the soy dipping sauce doesn't work. Overall, this was quite a disappointment. The food and execution was subpar. The service was good though, except during cleanup. We asked for a box and a small sauce container for the tofu and sauce. While putting the tofu away, the sauce was taken away along with the rest of the empty dishes by another person. Gotta look! Well, now Harbor Village can join the "nothing is good to eat in Hawaii Kai" list. read more

1) service was very slow. Waited at least 50 minutes before we got our food. Ordered spareribs and was told it will take at least 20 minutes to cook. Why didn't they tell us earlier. The restaurant was half filled when we entered and ordered. Wondered if our other food will be cold by the time we get our orders. Seems they make everything from scratch when ordered. Six months ago it didn't take this long. Maybe they have a new chef. Heard one of the cooks left. Ambiance is still the same, not much changed. A bit dusty around the tables. Harbor village has good service and good Chinese food. Their best thing is the charsiu bao, it has a sweet crunchy top like a nai wong bao which sets it apart from other places. The foo kin tofu is also good, but I love foo kin tofu from anywhere so maybe I'm biased haha The place is small and can get crowded, so call ahead if you're worried about bringing a larger party or going at a busy time. It's nice to have good Chinese food on the east side, but since harbor village is the only good option (as far as I know) they're quite popular! read more

For the most part, our order was good. However, this was the second time that a dish that we ordered was overlooked and never delivered to our table. We were not charged for the missing dish, but the fact that it was overlooked was not good. I would like to suggest that the wait staff check the dim sum order sheet better to ensure that ALL items ordered are accounted for and delivered to the table.
