We needed a place for a quick dinner and my husband's friend mentioned that Mandarin kitchen was pretty good. It appears to be primarily a takeout restaurant as there's only one table, with four chairs and some seating for counter space. We arrived around 7:30 so there was just one duck hanging a quarter of a duck and a couple pieces of char siu. We quickly looked at the menu and decided on the special of the day which was black bean chicken, and a dry beef, chow, fun, and of course white rice for my husband. We found it quite reasonable as the dinner ended up being about $30 or so and since there was no table service, it did not require a tip. We sat down at the one lonely table I mentioned to the lady that we needed plates as we were planning to eat there, and she was kind enough to provide a couple of bowls. We ate, but I found it quite uncomfortable because the doors were open and no air-conditioning. All in all it was fine. Food was OK, I'd go back again. I have been told that the Roast pork in the Duck is quite good so it probably deserves another visit. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite Chinese restaurants!! The food is consistently excellent, and the people are friendly! House fried rice is always made with fresh rice (not old rice) and it's perfectly seasoned. Mapo tofu, salt and pepper pork chops are fantastic. It's not msg salty like many other places. read more

Have you visited Kahala Mall recently? Just outside the mall is a small strip of eateries with free parking. After church, we quickly stopped by the strip mall where we found a local take out Chinese restaurant called Mandarin Kitchen and decided to sample their savory roast duck...half for $23. It was plump, well seasoned, and very moist! It definitely stacks up to the duck found in Chinatown! Now we know we can always drop by this conveniently located neighborhood take out eatery with quick service, a nice selection of entrees, and free parking! This review is only based on one dish, the (dry) fried beef chow fun, cooked to order. For the price it was very reasonable, especially if it's the weekly special. This is my second bad review. I don't see any pride being taken in serving good quality food here. The hot bar items MUST go before they make a new batch to put out. If you want fresh, you must order Ala Carte. I Decided to order FRESH ala carte item because the one on the hot bar looked stale and dry. It took me less than 8 minutes to reach my destination. When I served out a portion, of the food, the pieces were mushy all the way through. This was NOT fresh, not was it pork. I will not entertain the idea of how it could have happened. When they first opened years ago, we tried a couple times. Boy, they were not good. But recently, we decided to give them a try again since they opened later than the other places. Pleasantly surprised! Went back again to see if they remained better or if last time was just a fluke. Thankfully, today was not too shabby. Food had good flavor and not salty. However, portion is rather small. I understand that for $14 (extra cost for fish), it's a good deal nowadays, but still, if you use a big plate, one scoop of food makes portion look even smaller. And I guess one scoop of each entree is good enough for lunch. Don't want kanak attack at work. What was upsetting was the $30/lb for roast pork. Omg that's so expensive! I tried to find it on the menu, but couldn't read the menu fast enough. Honestly didn't think it could be that out of range from other places like Asian Mix, where we frequent a lot, where price for roast pork is under $20/lb. That's a huge difference. I assume the cashier knows I go there several times a month. I ordered fried noodles with mini chicken. The guy on the phone said "you want crispy skin chicken and fried noodles with chicken?" Then when I pick up the food the lady (cashier) opened the container to make sure I'm getting the right order. Then gave it to me. I gave a tip. When I opened the container I saw the noodles and chicken were burnt. The chicken was actually black. When you grab the noodles it was all stuck together like it was over boiled. Threw it away. I was a bit disappointed with our selection. We had Cold Ginger Chicken and Singapore Noodles. The chicken was pretty good but they gave us a very small container of the ginger sauce. It barely covered 1/4 of the chicken. The noodles looked really good but it had s strange starchy taste that lingered. We wound up throwing it out. Stopped in at Mandarin Kitchen for lunch after work and decided to go with the ready made hot entree/ sides counter. They do have regular plates you can order if you don't like the look of anything on the hot line. They also have a butcher block with roast pork, duck etc. I opted for a 2 entree my sides were half fried rice half noodles and entrees were Eggplant tofu, chicken with black bean sauce. The food was good flavor wise it hit the right spots I did thing the noods were a bit salty but mixed with the chicken black bean sauce it tasted good. The workers were nice they were helping two women who had come in and had questions about some the dishes and they did take the time to explain sizes and what was in the dish.. some places will brush you off. The ladies let them know they could help me and the transaction was pretty fast. I decided to try the Mandarin Kitchen located near Kahala Mall. As usual, I typically order the orange chicken, and I'm glad that I did. I liked the glistening moist look of the chicken. When I tasted the chicken, it was good. I also ordered the chow fun noodles. I'm glad that I did. It was tasty with lots of cabbage included. On my lunch break, i stumbled across mandarin kitchen. It's located at the mini plaza (along with Jersey mikes, bruh bakery, dominos, etc.) closest to McDonald's with multiple parking areas all around. Such a beautiful, breezy day to treat myself rather than eat a hard boiled egg and a few cookies from my lunch bag (which isn't much of a "lunch"). I ordered their sweet and sour porks with fried rice. And an egg roll which actually it packed in 2 times of its quantity! All together was about $9.16. That's a great deal for a satisfying lunch plate. I like the way that their fried rice was cooked: more fried but very light on the cooking oil; the rice wasn't hard to chew either. Just right! Sweet and sour pork: i could wish that they added a little bit more, and be a bit more "generous" with the quantity of meat hehe. It was definitely sweet and sour. And i like the way that pineapples and bell peppers were incorporated to dim down the sweetness. My favorite was the eggrolls. Boy they were good. I could do an ASMR right now and talk about how good and crunchy it is. No oil dripping and it wasn't under nor over cooked. Pretty tasty to be served with sweet dipping sauce. I walked into this establishment to ask how much their roast pork and charsiu cost. I didn't understand the worker at all!! From what I heard...1 pound of roast pork was $13 and 1/2 pound would be $15. Same for charsiu, but more expensive!! I couldn't even understand even when I kept asking her to repeat it. I saw this place on Yelp last weekend on our way to the beach and I thought it would be a good place for lunch. We really only have one Chinese place near our house so we really haven't gotten any Chinese food since being stuck at home. At first from the pictures it looked like it was like a Panda but after looking at their menu, they have a lot of items. It's almost like a Chinese restaurant menu. We ordered ahead so we could just pick up and go. It was pretty fast. We called while in the car and picked it up within ten minutes. We ordered the beef chow fun, salted fish and chicken fried rice, and orange chicken. We couldn't all go in since we didn't have masks so my husband just went in. He said it looks like Panda where all the food is in front of you and you just go down the line to order. Two out of our three items were probably on the line so they probably scooped it from there. The salted chicken and fish fried rice they probably had to cook in the back. My favorite was the fried rice. Boo for putting peas and carrots in the rice but the flavor of the rice was spot on. Ever since my husband introduced me to that dish we get that everywhere. The beef chow fun was okay we've just had better beef chow fun somewhere else. The orange chicken was a treat because we hadn't eaten orange chicken in years. It was a very good meal and it was very affordable. I have never written an update this quickly or changed my mind so fast about any place before. WHO: this is a takeout Chinese restaurant that will make you never want to eat at Panda Express again (unless you're in a rush). THIS PLACE TAKES LONG. Long to answer phone, long to cook your food, long to ring you up, but it's good. WHAT: restaurant quality Chinese cuisine. During lunchtime there's a hot food bar (similar to Panda Express or Patti's Chinese kitchen for those that remember way back in the day when it was by Pizza Hut) but at night this place is pumping out Chinese food. In styrofoam containers. The one thing that would make this place more authentic is to use those white paper boxes with the metal wire handles. LOL. WHERE: between McDonalds and Kozo sushi Kahala Mall WHEN: NOW! They opened in May in the spot formerly known as Tsuta Ramen. HOW MUCH: the hot deli $6.75, $8.50, $10.25 for 1 side plus 1, 2, or 3 choice entree. This is cheaper than Panda Express btw. The full service menu is also priced well. Dine in? Sure, one or two tables. Seems like everyone knows this place is open FOR TAKEOUT from the non stop phone orders and ppl coming in to pick up their food. Do it. Get the honey walnut shrimp. We also really liked the beef chow fun, it's flavorful without being too oily. Haven't really tried the lunchtime fast food, since last time the trays were pretty dry and empty but 1:52p, but the two dinner items we ordered took 30min and tasted better than the other 2 or 3 places within 5 miles. Congrats on your soft opening! Right next to the McDonald's by Kahala Mall, there's a tiny parking lot and Mandarin Kitchen has the noticeable corner unit by their neighbors drive through. They have really nice menus printed but the dining area is closed due to covid. Their hot table offers a lot of choices. We got the Mandarin Kitchen plate with chow mein, orange chicken, garlic eggplant, and sweet sour pork. You can also order from their full menu. The noodles were on point, very generous! So I haven't actually had meals here BUT it is my go to for takeout Charsui and Garlic Pork. When I'm in the area at Kahala mall, it's so convenient to grab 1/2 pound and head home. Great parking (right inside Kahala Mall by McDonalds), very clean, good pictures, clear menu with prices. I got honey walnut shrimp (which is my favorite and go to any time I get Chinese food). It was made fresh to order and the batter was not too thick but had a good taste and crunch. Walnuts tasted nice and sweet and mayo sauce was good (I always want more!) I also got a plate lunch (1 starch and 3 choices). I got half chow mein, half fried rice, orange chicken, eggplant/tofu, and mapo tofu. First time trying this since we were craving some Chinese food. Mandarin Kitchen is located off Kahala Mall near Share Tea, Dominos, Brug, Mcdonalds. You can either park in the small connected lot or just park in Kahala Mall and walk over. For it's location, it's very convenient for those who live near Kahala/Aina Hina as there aren't a lot of Chinese food options in the area. You can call ahead, but since we only decided once we got to the mall, we walked in to order. There was no line later in the afternoon on a Sunday. They have a lot of options - typical dishes you'd find at a Chinese restaurant. Each dish ranges from about $11-17 depending on the item and type of meat. They also have a list of "specials" near the register. We ordered four plates - shanghai noodles (special), eggplant and tofu, crispy skin chicken, & black bean chow fun with beef. They cooked each dish to order and cut up the chicken in their display case. Although made to order, wait time wasn't long and we waited less than 10 minutes. Takeout was quick and easy. You can call ahead to get it faster and avoid waiting. Now onto the food. We were pleasantly surprised - Chinese food is hard to go wrong, but we usually stick to our usual spots to get for dinner. Each dish had different flavors which made a great combination for dinner. My favorite was the crispy skin chicken - the meat was very tender and the flavor was very very delicious. Nicely salted and flavored with Chinese all-spice, I highly recommend! I kept eating and eating the chicken. Also the skin was nice and crispy when they cut it up at the shop - eat it when it's fresh! Here's an update based on my visit on February 1st, Chinese New Year. Placed my order earlier the day before to avoid the expected long lines. I was buying dinner for 3 families and arrived early in anticipation of waiting in spite of my preorder. No surprise that the line was out the door but what I didn't like was their lack or organization managing the line. There were people milling around inside waiting for their order, people outside congregating waiting for their order and waiting to place their order and people like me who had placed an earlier order not knowing if I should jump the long line and check on my order or be the courteous gentleman and wait in the line while my anxious families awaited their Chinese New Year feast. So...I did both. I waited awhile chatting with other patient and not so patient folks around me. Neither groups seemed to know what to do so I had my wife and granddaughter save our spot in line and scooted inside. I caught the cashier's eye after I was able to get to the front counter. O mentioned my advances order and she confirmed my order, took my payment and told me that my order was ready! Not...The 4 workers tasked with gathering and batching the completed orders did not seem organized and my order was no where in sight. 30 minutes later, having asked the workers numerous times, my order was partially complete but I still had to wait another 20 minutes for my 3 orders of Shanghai noodles to be prepared. In the mean time my fried gau gee and other food sat sadly on the counter slowly cooling as I stood steaming. My suggestion? Set up 2 lines with signage: One for customers placing orders and one line for orders placed in advance. Issue customers numbers (like at McDonalds next door) once you've paid for your order. As orders are completed call out the order number. Lastly, have the cooks Compleat orders as they are placed, especially those that have been called in earlier. Okay, now that I got that off my chest here's my pro tip: don't place large orders on the first day of Chinese New Year and expect to get your order in a timely manner. Food is still good, prices fair. Customer service still is a work in progress on busy occasions but I can live with that. As a repeat customer since they first opened I was very disappointed with their service on Chinese New Year. Not an auspicious way to start the Year of the Water Tiger. Grrrr... read more

I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews for this place, so I had to write my own! My family has been to Mandarin Kitchen multiple times and we have been very satisfied each time, including today's Thanksgiving dinner. The customer service is good, they can change the dish to your liking, the food is tasty, and they are pretty quick! I suppose the prices are on the higher side, but that is completely understandable with today's cost of living prices and it's also a mom&pop shop! People on here expecting good quality chinese food for McDonald's prices dont understand how expensive it is to run a small business. I saw a lot of reviews saying the food was too salty but my family of six does not agree.
