This was our first time to Bar Harbor and this hotel is 10/10. They have one of the best locations. Close to the park without having to drive through downtown with tourists darting out everywhere. But it is so close to downtown that you are in walking distance to all the bars/restaurants. The staff here is incredible. The check in process was so easy and everything about the property was explained clearly. The checkout process was easy as well as I just sent a text with my email and my folio was sent to me almost instantly. The texting from the staff throughout our stay checking in on everything was great. The rooms were very spacious and seemed upgraded a bit but still had a nautical and coastal feel. I haven't been to any other hotels in the area, but we would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in Bar Harbor. read more

One thing I've learned when traveling over the years - especially internationally and around national parks - is that us travellers tend to place exorbitantly high expectations of restaurants. The biggest mistake made is then comparing places to food back home, like NJ, NYC, California. Bad idea. So with that said, let's begin the review. Our first meal in Bar Harbor, as part of our vacation visiting Acadia National Park, was dinner at La Bella Vita. For us non-seafood people, eating Italian food is a quality alternative. The place was busy indoors and outdoors, so we were seated in the lobby area. This actually turned out to be better because we got a nice huge, quiet table to ourselves. Even though we were in the lobby, the service was prompt. We ordered a few items: Tuscan Harvest Large Salad Brick Oven Bruschetta Margherita Pizza Giardino Plant Based Burger All in all, the food was pretty good. The burger itself was quite filling, especially with the fries. The bruschetta had a nice little touch to it with the blackberries on top. No complaints whatsoever, especially since we were very hungry from a long travel day. This was one of our better food options in the area, so I'd highly recommend for vegetarians looking for something to eat. read more

I've eaten from them two days in a row and almost three meals. The first one I ordered (room service) but never received. Then I ordered a pizza, delicious, and finally, lobster & crab ravioli, just ok, and a tiramisu, pretty good. The pizza was really the star, the sauce the cheese the toppings and the crust all worked together perfectly to make the perfect bite. It was a little spicy but not too much and had the perfect ratio of toppings to crust. The lobster and crab ravioli just had way too much going on there was spinach and peas and just it was just a lot going on I would have preferred just the ravioli without all of the other stuff the pasta itself for the ravioli was very good and the filling was also really tasty but there is just so much other stuff going on. The tiramisu, also same thing, too much going on. Great flavor but also had these little pearls of chocolate, they almost had the same texture of a chocolate malt balls but was super super tiny and just didn't really add to the tiramisu experience for me. It is convenient that they are right inside the resort and are the room service provider so they've got a good selection. read more

On our last evening in Bar Harbor, we stopped into La Bella Vita because of its super convenient location right across from our hotel. We walked in without a reservation and they were still able to seat us almost immediately. The place where we were seated had a gorgeous view of the pool area and was very serene. Our server was Daelyn, and she was friendly but rushed. We placed an order for a passion fruit Bellini for me and an agave limeade for him while we looked over the menu. As we waited to order, we noticed the portions were huge, so I made a mental note they had half portions and that's what I was going to opt for. The Bellini was very sweet, a little too sweet for my tastes. He liked his limeade so much however, that he ordered a second once the first was gone. Once our server returned, we thought he ordered the halibut and I ordered the half order of the giant tortelloni. Unfortunately what she brought us was the haddock, which was not what he thought he ordered, due to a misunderstanding on the word similarity and the sauces. He was a good sport however and ate it anyway. It was not great because it was not what he thought he ordered, but my tortelloni were good, fresh, and very filling. After all the miscommunication and food was over, she told us that she gave us her employee discount on the fish to apologise for the mix-up which was kind of her. That left the prices as follows: limeade ($5), tortelloni ($11), haddock ($14), Bellini ($12). Service was fast, flavors were decent, ambiance was a little olive garden for my tastes, and prices were average for bar harbor dinners. Overall a solid 3/5 stars. read more

I wish the rating system could be changed to allow 1/2 stars or one rating for food and a separate one for service. We had diner here last night and had wonderful food, but the service was sorrily lacking. Our waiter was not familiar with many items on the menu so we had to either google the ingredients or take a leap of faith. We enjoyed the Lobster bisque soup and shared a lobster with beets salad (fabulous citrus vinaigrette dressing. For our main course I had the Fishermans stew and my wife had the lobster/crab ravioli. I spent the week at the hotel attached and had many meals at the restaurant. The first night I was a bit disappointed with the pizza. Although the toppings were excellent the crust tasted as if it were bought pre made from food service and then cooked in the wood fire oven. It was just too chewy with little freshness taste. But I can't emphasize how good the toppings were. The next days included a tomato and cheese dip appetizer that was excellent and very hot out of oven when served. A crab and Lobster dip that was very good. (Needed a little added spice but easily done after serving) Spaghetti and meatballs were spot on. Ribeye perfectly cooked and the best meal of all was the muscles appetizer that definitely was size of a meal. It was excellent! All pictures included. Ended up being my personal favorite spot. Prices and food are not as high-end as the ambiance would suggest. Plenty of relatively affordable options on the menu, including vegetarian options. I also appreciated the option to get a small/half portion. Unfortunately, my lobster ravioli arrived rather unevenly heated, mostly cold, and didn't seem to be the best thought out dish to begin with. Their drinks, varieties and its quantities are amazing For Food we had - 1. Sicilian Style Garlic Knots - Perfectly soft and served with red sauce which was tangy and spicy 2. Brick Oven Bruschetta - The Bruschetta was crisp and topped with freshly sliced tomatoes and cheese, it felt like biting into a mini pizza! 3. Potato Gnocchi - OMG! This is the best, crispiest and the crunchiest Gnocchi I have ever had, it was fresh made and topped with roasted kale 4. Margherita Vecchio Pizza - The Pizza was perfectly spiced and also had Basil Pesto sauce drizzle over it which added to its overall flavor 5. Salsiccia Pepe Pizza - The pizza was filled with so many toppings and it was very filling We repeated out order for the Garlic Knots, Potato Gnocchi and the Salsiccia Pepe Pizza as we just couldn't get enough of those 3 items 6. TERRIBLE!!!! They need to get it together! DIRTY white cloth napkins. These had to be replaced 3 times. Our water had stuff floating in it. Replaced this 3 times as well.. Then we ordered a bottle of Pellegrino. The silverware was not washed properly and still had butter on the knives. These are easy fixes for a real restaurant manager. We found the manager uninterested in anything we had to say about the cleanliness of his restaurant! Here was the kicker to this meal. 1. Were were told they have no bread service due to covid..... after we received our pasta.. (So put it on the side of the pasta bowl not on the table.) 2,. We were on our way out and told by the hostess we had to buy it. They had garlic knots not bread. 3. We were then told they don't have any bread on the menu! INFORMATION I needed before I ordered the Pasta Bolognesse. If this was NJ they would have been laughed at and would never stand a chance of surviving with out bread for pasta! We ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca with mederia wine and Chicken Piccata. NO maderia in their saltimbocca. It had was some kind of brown sauce and had no sage to boot! Piccata was just ok. I hate to give bad reviews. But I hate eating bad food even more. While the service was outstanding, the food was inedible. We first ordered the calamari. It wasn't fried adequately, so it was soggy. I had only a few bites. Next, I ordered the garlic knots. The first batch came out undercooked and the center of the bread was cool to the touch. The bartender, who was our server, politely took it back to get us hotter ones. The next batch was only marginally better. Finally, our main dishes came out. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese. It didn't taste like anything and was hardly warm. My partner ordered the spaghetti with meatballs. I tasted some of his food and it was off. The texture wasn't quite right. I barely finished my plate of food. As for drinks, my dirty martini was delicious. However, the Nero d'Avola my partner first ordered as a glass of wine had already turned. We then asked for a bottle of it to try and ensure it hadn't gone bad. In the end that wasn't all that great either. It was just overly priced, super cheap wine. (And we adore d'Avolas). I don't quite grasp what's going on with this restaurant as I have dined there now three times. The first two times were really enjoyable but this last time was just awful. We came here for breakfast several times and had great experiences. They have a variety of sweet and savory breakfast options to choose from. The price is probably about as good as you can get in the area! This place needs a little more love. The decor is supposed to be European rustic, think French accented grandmother, dahling. But apparently they took it a little too far by letting the flies into the restaurant despite it being the end of fall. No flies outside but almost feels like a barn inside. Every table has its own fly, who pays more attention to the customers than the wait staff. The food is pretty good, regarding quality, though the menu is a bit low on imagination. About the most exciting thing on the breakfast menu is Eggs Benedict. So yes, apparently grandma also designed the menu. But my daughter enjoyed her pancakes and they have these nice little Dickinson's jelly containers, which gives the impression that cared at some point. Lastly, the rustic chairs include the absence of any padding whatsoever. So grandma also brought in her "wonderful" chairs from the 70s. Do they not have upholstery services in Bar Harbor? Unclear whether this place is on its way down or up. It has potential, which is largely wasted. Maybe the hotel owners can hook grandma up on Tinder, get her a boyfriend and back to wearing makeup. Suffering horribly right now from lack of staff and therefore inexperienced staff, this was a miserable slog through dinner with empty drinks, slow food service, and a slow march into boredom as our dinner stretched to two hours. Look the food was pretty good, but if I want good food and nothing else I'll order takeout. We were here for the full experience and just didn't get it. I'm hoping they are able to hire some waitstaff, but until then maybe the number of tables doesn't accurately reflect the number of people you are able to serve. read more

This place is located within a hotel adjacent to the harbor. It is conveniently located to the downtown Bar Harbor area, though it is a block away from the main street in town. We walked to dinner here, so I cannot comment on parking. We arrived at around 6 p.m. on a Tuesday. It had not gotten crowded yet at that point. We got a table and got service promptly. The overall vibe here is 'upscale'. Honestly this was a bit more of a 'fine dining' experience that we were looking for at the time. I say this only because it was a bit pricier than what I'd have targeted for just an average Italian meal dining out. That isn't a criticism, just more along the lines of 'know what you are getting'. After a couple more days in town, it did appear that there was at least one more moderate Italian place. The clientele appeared to be mostly late-middle-aged or older couples, probably staying in the upscale hotel adjoining the restaurant. Our server was quite good; she returned often but was not intrusive. I got a pasta dish which I liked; I has sufficient leftovers to serve as breakfast a couple of days later. My wife got a fish dish that she liked. Depending on what you are looking for, this could be a good venue for an upscale Italian meal in Bar Harbor. read more

Came here with recommendations from friends to celebrate my grandmothers birthday. We were very disappointed. Firstly, we spilled our water due to the table being uneven and when we asked for paper towels to clean it, the gentleman seemed very annoyed. We also had to ask three different servers for a fresh napkin. We felt rushed, and forgotten about. We asked for a glass of milk and never received it. Our waitress was impatient and rude. At traditional italian restaurants, you get salad and bread with your meal. Here it's not the case. For a $30 meal you get small portions and no salad or bread. The food was not worth the money. In addition to this violation of state policy, the waiter did not know any of the dishes and was unable to accommodate allergies. He lets us know that much of the food is pre made and it, "would take a very long time" for them to create dishes without nuts. He was extremely rude as well. When we brought this to the managers attention, he was equally rude and we ended up walking out. We have eaten here twice before. We had wonderful veal dishes and the bread with the marina sauce and ricotta was excellent. So back we went tonight. SO disappointed! Even though the online menu shows veal dishes, they no longer serve veal. And we were patiently waiting for our bread and our meals came out so we asked for the bread. Again, SO disappointed when told were don't serve that anymore'. We have garlic rolls you can pay $8 for! I got the chicken saltimbocca and it was very good. The chicken was cooked perfectly and it was very tender. The sauce was very good. My husband got the bolognesse with meatballs and it was good but felt like it essentially paid $31 for spaghetti and meatballs. $13 for a glass of Chianti seemed a bit steep. We dined there last week, on a weekday night when the restaurant was only half to two-thirds full (we were seated indoors and so couldn't see the entire outdoor area). It was a bad night, although to be fair that may have been due to either inexperienced wait staff or an undermanned kitchen. To start, it took nearly fifteen minutes to get the gin and tonic which was ordered, and we were seated right next to the bar. The drink was weak, but the objection is that it took ten minutes longer than might be expected. The two of us ordered a salad to be shared between us as an appetizer, and respectively a Sicilian seafood stew and a chicken parm. No bread was served to the table. Apparently, even in Italian restaurants that is no longer assumed. Now the fun started. No food was served to us for what seemed like half an hour. And then, to my astonishment, several wait staff, followed closely by our waiter, brought the salad (on one plate, undivided, with no small plates which we could use to divide it) TOGETHER with our entrees at the same time. Normally, I'm not one to complain (e.g., the weak G&T, which could legitimately have been sent back but was not). But I lost my mind, asking the waiter why they were bringing out our salad course and entrees at the same time, telling him that our hot entrees would obviously get cold as we ate our belated salads. His amazing response was two-fold: first, that he did not know that we wouldn't want our salads and entrees out together (I stammered something about them being, you know, separate courses); and second, that he could reprieve the entrees to put them under a heat lamp. (We accepted the latter option). Needless to say, we declined to order dessert (or we still be there). The food was adequate but not Inexpensive. For some reason, the seafood dish, swimming in a red sauce, was neither served on nor with pasta. All in all, an unpleasant dining experience. read more

I wish we had just gone to the La Bella Vita on Eden Street again (we had the best experience at Eden Street and so we decided to give this restaurant on West Street a try). At West street, the hostess was rude, if you can't care to smile or speak to your customers while looking at them, you don't deserve to be working the front desk. Our server was nice and polite but he missed bringing two of the things we ordered. The bruschetta was flavorful but felt like it had been sitting around a while before it made its way to our table, as soon as we picked it up it fell apart, the bread was totally soggy. The grilled brussel sprouts were flavorful but cold by the time they were served. The plant burger fell apart (possibly cause it was also just sitting around). Had a good meal here on Friday night 8/21. We ordered the crispy brussel sprouts and calamari which were both good. Our main courses were delivered by Bob who did not have his masks over his nose. We asked why he wasn't wearing his mask over his nose and he stated he couldn't breath with it on his nose. Bob was working hard and moving much faster than other servers however it was very upsetting to have a server deliver food without a mask on his face which is required by Maine State law. We did see other servers with masks under their noses but the majority did wear them correctly.Chicken Saltimbocca and the Surf and Turf were tasty and we ended with Tiramisu. What we had was simple rustic Italian food. There is a small Italian menu served after 5 but everything else is pizza, burgers, steak, fish, and salads. Most of the dishes were meatless and needed to be ordered a la cart. All of the sauces were essentially the same with slight variances and different pasta. The service was absolutely terrible but our guy was kind and very accommodating to make up for the many mistakes (we ordered 4 different pasta dishes and we received 4 of the same one but that was corrected) and very long wait although we were the only table in the restaurant for the first 45 minutes we were there. The calamari was lightly breaded and fresh. The spaghetti was perfectly al dente with a light sauce but slightly watery and had no protein. The Bolognese sauce was thick and rich. The meatballs were made fresh and had good flavor but had to be ordered separate bc I found out afterwards there is no veal with the Bolognese like the menu suggest. They did not have fresh grated cheese which would have made it better but a nice little spot never the less. Also, no bread and oil, no drink menu, so not your typical Italian night out. read more

A small hotel restaurant. My friend chose this place, based on a recommend from her mother, and I must admit our tastes vary considerably. My friend would say she had a wonderful meal and enjoyed it fully. I feel differently. I was first unimpressed by the menu overall. An "Italian" restaurant without a single signature pasta dish? Make your own? What the...? I know people can be picky but this is unacceptable. I ordered a salad and the eggplant rollatini. There seemed to be only one server in the whole busy restaurant actually working the tables, with at least four other employees loitering near the bar and hostess areas. The server even delivered the food, while no one else lifted a finger to assist him. He was swamped, and our service suffered for it. The quality of food was "Meh" The salad had good flavors but was skimpy on portion size. The rollatini was actually pitiful. A bland, thin, tasteless red sauce over overcooked eggplant rolls filled with cheap ricotta. That's it. For dessert I had "Blueberry pie" It was a cute little individual "pie", served warm with a tiny smear of lemon curd and vanilla ice cream. The pie filling was good, but was completely overshadowed by far too much crust, which was needed for the show of an individual pie. The taste suffered for it. That pretty much sums up my opinion of this place, on the surface, it looks good, but it's all for show. If you enjoy bland, tasteless carbohydrates with no imagination, this is the place for you. read more

You know what I admire about this place? We strolled in with a large portion of a wedding party and were greeted by the hostess. "How many in your party?" she asked. "19," we replied. Without blinking an eye she made some magical things happen and we were seated in about 10 or 15 minutes. I was fairly impressed to say the least. To be fair we were sat at 3 tables right next to each other in their own little section, but still. I was more impressed that the service never lagged, whether they were refilling drinks, taking orders or bringing out bread everything was spot on here even with 19 of us. This was one of the better meals I had in Bar Harbor so I would highly recommend stopping by, especially if you're like me and get tired of hearing "We have a lobster for our special tonight" 4 evenings in a row and just want some beef. If that is you order the Filet Mignon and get it with the Gorgonzola topping. It's divine, I promise. And the crispy bread they bring out to start your meal is some of the tastiest I've tried. I'd fight you for it on most days. It's pricey and I'm not sure it would be worth it in Denver, but in Bar Harbor it totally was. read more

We are a large party of 8, 4 adults and 4 children. I'll start by saying that overall the food we received tasted good, but pastas were over cooked. Walking through the experience the menu posted outside the restaurant does not match the current menu so gluten friendly options that we thought were there were not. They were out of garlic knots which is the first appetizer on the menu. When a family member ordered pizza they were told that they could not modify the toppings. No bread was brought to the table, a staple of Italian restaurants, without a request and a fee. Though we ordered half sizes, the portions were quite small for the cost, though I recognize that there is a vacation spot premium here. The pasta dishes were swimming in sauce and the pasta was over cooked. Grated cheese was provided in packets. The service was OK, but nothing to brag about. read more

I honestly am probably being generous with the 2 stars I am giving. The fettuccine I ordered, you can tell is homemade- however, it was tough and stuck together. It was very tasteless- like the chef forgot the golden rule - salt every step. The blueberry pie I ordered- the crust was soggy- and again - it's like salt was forgotten in the process. Tasteless. The mussels were hot and herbaceous and perfectly cooked. Not one was closed. The taglioni is a must try. Even the kids meal was so good I found myself eating off the their plates.
