But it is so close to downtown that you are in walking distance to all the bars/restaurants. The staff here is incredible. The check in process was so easy and everything about the property was explained clearly. The checkout process was easy as well as I just sent a text with my email and my folio was sent to me almost instantly. The texting from the staff throughout our stay checking in on everything was great. The rooms were very spacious and seemed upgraded a bit but still had a nautical and coastal feel. I haven't been to any other hotels in the area, but we would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in Bar Harbor.

I think it's great that you own a Subway franchise in New York City, but I might hesitate from throwing around the word 'chef' too haughtily. I mean just because one wears a cowboy hat does not mean one owns cattle, am I right? Perhaps there were dishes on the menu that one could argue were overengineered, but they tasted great! And consider that you have no idea where in the culinary journey their chef is, nor what the market needs or will bear in Bar Harbor. The place was packed. Service was great. Food was divine! On a Tuesday night. Maybe next time you visit a restaurant, leave your Michelin yardstick in the trunk of your broomstick, and simply relax. We had called in advance to make reservations on a Wednesday night. The ambiance is OK, black walls, some artwork, a bit dark and moody, not overly welcoming. Our server was the only server in the whole restaurant. She never introduced herself and was polite, but in a forced and not friendly way, and she didn't smile much. Our cocktails, the Grand Royale, a gin based cocktail with champagne, and the black and blue Manhattan, both $15, tasted ok. Nothing special or unique than what we could mix ourselves at home. We ordered for appetizers the sea scallops and the beets and carrots special. It took about 45 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. The sea scallops were the best executed dish of the evening, perfectly seared, crisp bacon. The beets and carrots tasted like prepackaged beets and some fresh carrots sandwiched in between. It was bland and missing a creamy element like a cheese, disappointing for $14. For dinners, we ordered two halibut entrees, a stapler chicken special, and buttered orechiette. We arrived at 5 pm, ordered shortly thereafter, and our entrees didn't arrive until 6:20pm. Our kids were both complaining about slowness and were starving. The tables around us made comments like, well, at least we don't have anywhere we need to be... There was zero apology for the wait, as if this was normal. When the entrees arrived, both halibut dishes were equally overcooked. Halibut us such a buttery fish, it's truly hard to overcook, but this was so dry. Both the halibut and the chicken had exactly the same presentation, including the same purple and green sauces circling both, which made them feel uninspired and generic. The chicken was decent but also overcooked, and the buttered orechiette was actually the best tasting dish, as the orechiette was fresh pasta and perfectly cooked. Overall, we were so disappointed with how long the food took. It all tasted fine, overcooked, not great. I felt like they were trying hard to be more upscale dining, charging upscale prices which I don't mind paying, but missed the mark.

There were three. Finally- I ordered Filet Mingon- because the waiter originally said it was local and free range. After he came back and corrected himself (neither) I still had a hankering for my (literally) semi-annual steak, cooked medium rare. My steak arrived 20 minutes later well done. No pink. I returned it. The manager was kind enough to stop by and apologize. We explained all our complaints- the wine, the shrooms, the steak. When I finally got my steak, it was all but tasteless. The manager seemed very contrite, but in the end, when our bill was delivered all we got removed were the shrooms. Meh. One star is raised to two stars because the manager did extend an effort. If you really want good italian in Bar Harbor, head over to Mama DiMatteo. You will not be disappointed, at all.
