So you walk in and choose your meats. They weigh it eight there and give you your ticket. The brisket was tender but had 0 flavor! I just knew a piece if the bark was going to be good...nope! It just lacked flavor/seasoning. You have to use the sauce and I just feel like good BBQ shouldn't need a sauce. The ribs, although they weren't as tender as I would have thought, the flavor on these were pretty good, without the sauce. But they weren't fall off the bone ribs. The Mac n Cheese...after reading reviews, I was so hopeful for. Unfortunately, it was merely Kraft or Velveeta shells and cheese from a box. They may wanna upgrade to Stouffers or something cause that's not a hit. $4 for a cup of boxed Mac n cheese. The peach cobbler was super crusty, which I like. However. You can tell the citrus element that was added. Be it lemon zest or orange, it was so tart and overpowering, you couldn't taste the peach. Having lunch here today. My first time here. We ordered a pound of brisket bbq, bread, corn on the cob and potato salad. The brisket is soft, moist and melts in your mouth. It's tasty-delicious! The atmosphere of the restaurant gives a very smokehouse/BBQ/country feel. When you walk in, you go through this line with a tray to get your food. The food is pretty good. Good: Food is excellent Bad: Terrible customer service Overall: The food does not overcome the experience I have visited this location 2 or 3 times and have always thought the food was good. However, after a visit for a graduation celebration, I discovered that the food may be good, but the management is so bad the food cannot possibly make up for it. I went to an event here for a college graduation. A room was reserved upstairs which was nice and secluded. We didn't use the 2 hours reserved, so we went to find a manager to ask if we would still be charged for the full 2 hours. As it turns out, everyone of the management team went into a locked room for an extended period of time. This would not have been a concern except that we were told that the question would have to be addressed by management. We waited for what was around 30 minutes while multiple members of the staff tried knocking on this door with no answer. When we finally were able to speak with someone (i.e. Store Manager), we were told the leadership team was only in the office for "5 minutes". I cannot address how long they were in the room, but we waited for somewhere near 30 minutes because the door was locked and the walkie talkies were taken in the room so they wouldn't be interrupted. We were then told that the GM was in this room and he would come talk to us. When he finally came out, he told us that the management team was in there for no more than 2 minutes. Again I cannot speak with certainty for regarding how long they were in this room, but we were told that's where they were and they would not answer efforts to knock on the door for at least 30 minutes. The GM explained that another group was forced to move back the start time because we reserved the room for 2 hours. This makes sense and I understand the expectation that we be charged for the full 2 hours. At this point, I was incredibly frustrated by how long we had to wait to actually speak to someone. The GM tried multiple explanations, such as "we have to be able to have team meetings". I don't understand why a GM would think I would be worried about a team meeting at a busy time on a Saturday afternoon. I could also not understand how if management is required to address this question why they would schedule a meeting while we were scheduled to be there. Ultimately, I would recommend another restaurant unless you are confident you will not need management to address a concern. The flippant response I got and the GM's explanation that the girl at the checkout should have done more even though management wouldn't respond to repeated efforts to knock on the door is enough for me to never again place myself in a position to deal with this. read more

This place used to be one of my favorite bbq places but it isn't what it used to be. A month ago I ordered take out online. I get there and tell one of the employees my name and I'm here for pickup. I wait...and wait...and wait. After 15 minutes or more I'm able to get a different employee to acknowledge me. The whole time I'm waiting my food has been sitting on the shelf getting cold. I explained my frustration and don't even get an apology. Apparently I don't understand how difficult their job is. Tonight I dine in with my boys because my youngest still thinks he loves Hard Eight. After getting our food I go to the bar to get a beer. 15 minute wait at least. 6:30 on a Friday night there are 3 bars but only one open. The one that is open has one bartender. One. Poor thing is doing her best but that's just stupid. Other customers around me express similar frustrations. No manager in sight to rectify the situation. Food is crap. See the pictures. One of my boys gets ribs. I pay $21 a pound for an end rib that is too hard to eat. In the old days they threw those to the side. Now they serve them. My brisket is dry. I had a bit of nostalgia while visiting here for the first time. It reminded me as a kid visiting this pit Barbecue joint in Fredericksburg every summer. It had the same wood fired grilled aroma in the air. That's why I really wanted to like this place. So here's the deal, you walk in to an outside barbecue pit. It is covered with plenty of fans. The first grill is where you place your rib eye order. The next area is where you order your meat by the pound from the pit boss. We had a pound of jalapeño sausage, ribs, shrimp poppers, and brisket. The jalapeño sausage was delicious with a good amount of heat. The brisket was moist and tender. The ribs were tough with not a lot of meat. I did not like the shrimp poppers at all. The shrimp was over cooked and the bacon was uncooked in some places. The next area is inside this is where you select your sides. We had the Mac n cheese and jalapeño corn. Both sides were excellent. They were both just really small, not really something you could share. We also got pecan pie and Oreo mud pie for dessert. The desserts were okay. I just wished the pecan pie was heated. Frankly it is hot, smoky, and can feel like literal Hell standing there waiting to order your meat. Secondly, the meat was dry, dry, dry! I got the Brisket, Turkey, and regular sausage. Honestly Buc-EE's Brisket sandwich is better and less expensive! Also, the sides were just not great. I enjoyed the complimentary beans but the Mac and cheese was literally velveta and shells. I ended up having to ask one of my grandsons if he had any pics from this visit, and the only one he had was this, becasue he was showing how my other grandson had destroyed his steak. The experience starts from the time you enter the door. The smokey smell of the meats on the BBQ Pit invite you inside and seemly yell "Come and Get It!" ( Like from a Western, Chow call). From the time we landed at DFW, one of my grandsons shared with me that he had a craving for a steak for a long time now, and I said, while we are here, Nana would try to make sure that happened, and by the look of the steaks already on the grill, it appeared that we would....I only hoped that he wouldnt be disappointed. My daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter come here often, so they already knew what they wanted and proceeded in stacking up the delectables inside the restuarant. One grandson, got the chicken and my other grandson waited until the Grill master could take our order on the steaks. I wanted mine medium well and my grandson wanted his medium. Our orders were taken and we were given instructions on where we could pick up our steaks. Afterwards we proceeded to join the rest of our party picking up sides, paying and then finding a spot to sit. We found a great spot near the TV screens, where I could continue viewing the Olympics games...BONUS!!! There was a mixup on the grill and the steaks did not come out. I went back to the cashier to inquire about the steaks and she immediately contacted the manager, who came to the table and informed that the original steaks had been left on the grill longer then they should have. The manager, Edric, was extremely professional, and appoligized for the mishap. He personally took the time to cook both steaks, to perfection, himself and discounted a portion of the bill for our inconvience. I have found that since COVID, customer service in all industries has taken a steep decline, however I was thoroughly impressed by Hard 8 BBQ's demonstration of what good Customer Service looks like. Accountability is extremely important to me, because I understand that not all customer expectations can be satisfied all the time, but when a customer service provider gets it wrong, they should be compelled to fix it and make it right. The Hard 8 BBQ's management made it right and now have a repeat customer in me. When I travel back to TX, I will be sure to eat here. It would be remissed if I didnt end this review with what we thought about the steaks. My grandson says that his steak was hands down the best steak he has had in his entire life (14years); and my steak was top five of the best steaks that I have ever had, in my travels throuighout the world and my own kitchen, which is extremely impressive to me. Grab one if you sublimely want the line to speed up. As you enter the building, you are hit with the thick smoke concierge that welcomes you to the Hard Eight. Next, after you let the smoke settle, there are plenty of posted signs on how to order. Just keep the line moving, you know you have arrived when the line splits in two in front of the master pit area. This place serves meats by pound, chickens by the half, and individual sides (mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, potato salad). After ordering your meat and sides. You are greeted by a worker who will offer you slices of white bread. After asking for what seems like a loaf of bread, you can request drink or desserts before paying for your meal. Don't forget that there is a section of complimentary pinto beans, and self-serve BBQ sauce. So please stock up before looking for a seat. Yelp Recommendation: My favorite items on the menu are the Brisket and Sausage. They are equally delicious. Finally, you are left to find seating for your group in a loud and busy restaurant. Take out system is garbage. Put in an order via their online form the day prior. Get there and call them from my car and was told "the meats are all ready we just need to bag it right now" so come in. I walk up to the take out area and there is a long line. Takes me 45mins to get through the line and out. All while my order was sitting there on the rack already bagged. To top it off they didn't include any bread with my couple hundred dollar meat order. What seems to be the problem is that their system is horribly inefficient. If the person who is at the front of the line's order isn't ready yet they will wait until its fully done before moving to the next person. Even if there are orders already bagged and ready for pickup on their rack. My suggestion: the line should be only for payment and checkin.
