I live right behind this restaurant and was very excited about them having wings as I order every week. The first time I ordered the doobs and garlic parm wings. Doobs weren't anything special but i loved the garlic parm wings. Since then I have ordered different types of wings quite a few different times and it's always inconsistent. The garlic parm were nasty the next time we ordered and I also got wings that weren't fully cooked!! I was furious for wasting my money. And like the other yelper, i ordered 2 dozen wings and all i got was 2 short sticks of celery. That's right, 2! The staff wasn't too helpful either so I have stopped going. I am really hoping the owner realizes these mistakes and I would give it another try. read more

The absolute best wings I have ever had. Just regular buffalo wings, they were better than J Tims (which was my favorite before)

Hubby had the pulled pork sandwich and was not good. Way too much sauce. He felt the coleslaw lacked flavor and to me lacked acidity. I had the Doobs wings, they we AMAZING! Gonna have to come back and try something else. read more

What a fun place! most of the Bartenders are great! Linda, Jackie amazing! All really nice. As for the food, its bar and grill food, but excellent. Went for beers and wings with a few old friends tonight. The beer flowed cheap and cold from the tap and their famous Doob wings were exceptional. Also had a philly cheese steak egg roll which was great as well. The bartendress was cute and efficient. A good place to meet friends and have some cocktails. The bartenders are great. Do not eat here. I have tried 3 times and it was bad. The latest food horror show, I asked for sweet potato fries, got regular fries, no sorry or offer to fry up some sweet potato fries. Clam chowder has red things floating in it....ohhh raw bacon, nice! Cobb salad was not chopped, just thrown together. The food at the North Haven location is far better. read more

Went there at 5 didn't get out until almost 7:30, everything took so long to get= took over 45 minutes for Doobs, ordered a drink came wrong, then ordered at steak and cheese only panini-came with with onions and mushrooms.. 3 strikes=such a dissappointment read more

Doob wings are the best! Great food and great service. They are a really new location so they do have a few kinks to work out, but as a whole, this is a great place to eat lunch or spend and evening in a typical bar setting. Let me recommend the buffalo chicken mac and cheese.... Soooooo good! read more

The artichoke dip is the worst I ever had, the wings were raw and we had a hair in our pastrami sandwich. Thank god the server was pleasant and she took off the wings and the pastrami sandwich, but we still won't be going back there ever. We had a very bad experience! read more

Ive been here before and had great service as well as food. My last visit with Lisa D serving was terrible, the server took 20 minutes just to come to the table. The food tastes burnt and awful. The server was clearly intoxicated and was openly talking crap about our table with other tables as well as saying a snide comment to the table instead of acknowledging her own mistake. read more

Disappointing. We have been to the North Haven location several times and it was always good. The Wallingford location is new and needs to work out some bugs. The sever was run off her feet as they needed more staff. We ordered wings and entrees. For some reason, all of the food came out together. The wings were burned. A dozen wings came with only 2 pieces of celery and a small portion of blue cheese. My steak and cheese wrap was burned on the outside. The French fries are some kind of seasoned version. I would have preferred the plain, old type. The pickle that was supposed to come with the wrap and fries was missing. The Yuengling drafts were $5 each, a bit more than I expected. At Farrell's Restaurant in Portland, CT they only charge $3. We may be willing to give the wallingford location another try, but only because we had enjoyed the North Haven location so much. Otherwise, we probably wouldn't return. P.s. - the pictures of the wings (doobs) and fries posted for the North Haven location are much different from those we got in Wallingford. My husband and I have been to the hard hat in north haven and love it there, so we thought we would try the hard hat in wallingford on New Year's Day. The food was just ok, but the reason for our review was that there was a tiny blonde girl at the bar that was clearly severely intoxicated and vulgar. The bartender kept serving this girl shots. The reason we know this is because she kept waiving her tab yelling 18 shots of fireball!? Then yelling her tab was upwards of $180. It was not a great environment to sit in nor to watch or listen to. We just hoped this girl was not driving. For this reason we will not be back to this establishment. We have children and would not want them going to a bar that seems to only have an interest in how much of a tip they will be getting. We couldn't imagine any other reason why someone would serve someone that much alcohol. read more

Went there during their soft opening and the service was poor. Their menu was smaller than expected. My wife and I decided to give it another shot last night since they would have had time to work out the kinks. No such luck. I went here for the first time right after the bar opened on a Friday morning for lunch. I remember first looking at the table and it looked covered in dust. I was told it was lint from the towels. That was something that should not be on the tables for patrons. My boyfriend ordered wings and I had a burger with sauteed mushrooms, onions, blue cheese, and bacon with fries. The garlic parm wings were okay. They needed more sauce for the flavor to come out. The burger was fantastic! I was told they use fresh meat, and I could tell. It tasted fresh and it was juicy. The flavor was amazing with the toppings and whatever kind of roll that was used helped make that burger fabulous. It was toasted a little too, which was awesome. I like crispy fries, so I asked for that and they came out perfectly. The fries were not thin, but not too thick either, so I was pleased. The seasoning on the fries was delicious and the fries were very hot, which was a plus. The waitress was pleasant and sociable. I would go back again to try other food, or just get that burger again! I finally made it to the Hard Hat Café Wallingford location and was craving wings. I went on a Monday night a little after six. There were maybe two full tables and a few people at the bar. My wife and I shared 18 wings, the fried pickle chips, and a small salad. The waitress got one of our drink orders wrong. She admitted she forgot and attempted to guess the drink order. She gladly changed the drink. We had nine of the "Doobs" and nine honey barbecue. The wings were very good with lots of meat. They were flavorful without being too spicy. The Fried pickle chips were just adequate, the coating was not light enough and there was to much of it. I would not order them again. The salad was fine. The place began to fill up and I found our server, who also ran the bar, to be slightly hot and cold. It seems like they should have more than one person running the whole restaurant but maybe Mondays are usually slower. I also got the vibe that you have to be a "regular". I will definitely be back to eat more wings and try some of the other flavors. read more
