Aki is brilliant. My hair is very thick and textured, with a pretty tight curl in some areas and loose waves in others, and I've had a lot of upsetting cuts over the years so I am very hesitant to trust people. I started going to Aki just for washes a few years ago after a surgery when I couldn't fully shower, but it quickly became obvious that she really understood my hair. She offered to do some shaping and added gorgeous layers to my then-long heavy hair, and I was thrilled with the result. I now trust her to do anything and actually just went chin-length (the cliche new-mom chop) because I knew she could make it work! She was able to blend the different textures in my hair in a very face-flattering way, and I can scrunch, air dry, and be on my way -- something I never thought would be possible after years of fighting my texture with blowouts and irons. This is my review after washing my hair 3 days after the cold perm was done at Hare Hair Salon. There is no curl left after washing my hair. It has all washed out! Furthermore, when I attempted to pay for the perm with my Visa card at Hare Hair, it was rejected (I paid with a debit card) - I found out later that my Visa card was canceled. When I called the credit card company they explained it was canceled because of: irregularities with this Hare Hair establishment. read more

Aki is a fantastic stylist, and I'm so glad I texted for an appointment this weekend! I just walked past the storefront a couple times and decided I'd give it a whirl. I had about mid-chest length hair with super fried dead-ends, so asked Aki for a long bob so I could get rid of the damaged hair but keep it on the longish side. Aki started asking a couple questions about styling preferences as well as whether I had any issues. I gave her my list (frizziness and dry ends but an oily scalp so I still have to wash every other day etc.) and she immediately offered a prescription for my issues! She gave me long layers to decrease frizz and make my thin hair look denser. Also a hair treatment recommendation that'll help tackle everything else. Aki is such a nice lady. You can tell that she really genuinely enjoys her work. Each haircut is probably like a work of art to her. Even though she states it's appointment only, sometimes she will take walk in. But call first to make sure she's there! She asked me what I wanted (and I didn't really know what I wanted...). I just knew I wanted a cut and a perm. She took the time to cut and thin my hair to matching length on both sides before starting the perm process. She was very detailed and meticulous with even a few strands of hair flying away. She turned on the TV and you can watch Netflix the whole time. The hair wash felt like a spa treatment, and all the products smelled so good. The perm was actually really fast. She put on some product in my hair then rinsed, then more product and curled pieces onto a curler roll. The heating process was probably only 10-15 minutes to my surprise. Be warned, your hair will look SUPER curly when she first releases it, but she will do some magic and your hair will look perfect. She decorated this place by herself, and you can tell that she poured her heart out into this business. I am excited to watch her grow and gain popularity as a hair dresser, but I'll be sad when she gets so popular that it'll be hard to book her! I've been coming to Aki for the past year (3-4 visits) for ashy brown balayage. Not only she dye my hair a completely different shade but had the nerve to blame me. Aki may seem sweet, but once she messes up, she blamed me and wrote a slew of lies to defame my character. This review speaks to her level of professionalism based on multiple occasions of retaliation. She harasses me via text after I left and flagged the photos and screenshots of our conversation I posted. Aki is so proud of her work and takes it personally when you don't like the results (that were far from expectations). This would not have been an issue is she apologized and corrected, but she chose to continue to place blame on me. She seems to believe her own opinion matters above yours, the client. Read below my horror story: 1) Told me I should have texted her strictly balayage in my reservation even though I said it to her verbally in person the day of. Still argues I did not ever say it. Moot to argue. 2) Came back to get it fixed. Told me I should have stopped her when I saw she didn't paint/feather it in. Again, puts blame on me. 3) She apologized for the miscommunication, then goes back to tell me I should have said xyz instead. Does that sound like someone who's apologetic? 4) Argued the hair color wasn't what I expected because of the strong pigment in my hair. As she's done my hair before and was ashy brown once (see photos) it's complete BS to say it was impossible to achieve that color. Just another excuse to diffuse any responsibility. 5) I was finally fed up with her constant arguing and asked if she really tried to pin it on me. She finally backed off and said it's not good to argue. Speak for yourself as a business owner who took 0% responsibility and kept arguing. PS - Aki got upset for writing this post and immediately asked me to leave. I left and told her everything I wrote is the truth; she can get upset as much as she want over her own mistake. She doesn't have to like what I say especially since she has not been apologetic and doesn't believe she is wrong. I'll let the photos say it all. I asked for a full refund including tip. She hesitated and then said fine . I know money makes the world go around, but honey next time don't talk so tough before losing about nearly $200 Second update: SHE HARASSES ME VIA TEXT. Screenshots are posted. Fine if she had a completely different version of events, which is normal in arguments but she completely LIES about me being violent and threatening to write a bad review if she didn't fix. First of all, we actually agreed to fix it for $40 even after all this craziness. I NEVER once threatened her she better fix it or she'll have a bad review. I initially wrote this review solely based on her customer service. I wrote this while sitting on the chair and she was mixing the hair color. I never once got up from the chair or moved an inch from the chair until she received a notification that she had a review (mine) and asks me to leave. Second, she tells me how it's impolite to write a bad review and she's proud of her work. It is in my right to rate her for her professionalism; if she can't handle the truth then work in a differently line of business. She's so proud of her work that she's stubborn and ignores your thoughts on your own hair. Super cute hair salon with lovely decor Got my hair done after not going to a hair salon for over a year (due to covid). Aki fixed up my bangs and gave me a great cut+ treatment. Since I've moved back to the City, I've really been wanting to find a new hair stylist that would take care of me. But I guess my search still continues I came here to have either hair coloring or a hair perm. After speaking with Aki, we decided on trying the hair coloring and she promised that my hair would look 'different' than my original black. I got a haircut at Hare Hair last week. I believe the stylist was Aki, although I'm not sure because she never introduced herself. I asked for a lob, and had some inspiration images to share. With little to no discussion, the stylist proceeded to aggressively razor my hair to the point where she left me with 1/4 of the volume. Some of the strands are only 1-2" in length, which means my head is now always itchy because my hair is coarse. I'm 40 years old and this, by far, was the worst haircut I've ever received. It will be years before I get my volume back. Overall, the service felt rushed, impersonal and careless. I'm honestly surprised by all of the positive reviews here. If you are a person of color, please think twice before going to Hare Hair. read more

Aki is so amazing!! I was in town for a wedding and needed a last minute early morning appointment. Aki was able to accommodate me at 8:00am and did a superb job of styling my hair. I can't recommend this newfound gem enough! At the time of writing this, the Hare Hair had only been open about seven months--I would have been ashamed had it been around longer and I had gone years without finding this place. I was pretty distraught after a previous appointment left me with brassy tiger stripes, and was absolutely desperate for a fix (and didn't trust the previous hairdresser to actually take matters into her own hands.) Every other place I call (obviously) didn't have appointments available at night, but luckily Hare Hair had openings! Aki responded almost immediately to my texts, was extremely generous with her time, and very flexible with when I needed to come in. She was very realistic about what my hair could do the day after a treatment, but tried to be as accommodating as possible to what my preferences were. The entire process was enjoyable, from the tea and cookies that she offered me, to the thorough dye job and wash, to even the meticulous blow dry. The attention to detail and hair care astounded me, and I couldn't be more grateful for her hair-salvaging skills. I definitely have had my fair share of trust issues with getting my hair done in the city at a relatively affordable salon, but Hare Hair is going to be my go-to from this point on. I'm very happy to have found this charming salon - it's convenient for me to get to, I can make appointments online on StyleSeat and Aki is open earlier & later than my normal go to place. Pre-cut is the standard wash and condition that most Japanese salons provide, Hare Hair Salon uses a tea tree/ peppermint shampoo, conditioner that makes your scalp feel all tingly , rejuvinated and cleansed. Tea, coffee, latte or water is offered during your service along with cookies. Also bonus points because she plays movies while cutting the hair so I was entertained during the cut. The Cut: nice cut overall, I admit I wasn't looking for anything too fancy. I had a long pixie previously that I have been growing out over the course of 6 months, I just needed a simple cut to shape it more into a Bob and even it out while it grows. Aki took her time cutting my hair and used a wet/dry method to make sure that the hair would fall nicely. I'm very satisfied with my cut and would definitely come again. I have long black hair that is slightly thicker than average and pretty high in volume. Aki helped me layer my hair but also thin it so that it was lighter and easier to put in a ponytail without losing any style to it! As for her salon, it's absolutely gorgeous. You can tell she put a lot of effort into making it beautiful and feel like a place where you can get high quality haircuts. During our appointment, she told me that she chose the decorations herself and told me about her time as a hairstylist in Tokyo. I'm so happy to have found Aki! I have a super sensitive scalp and usually get an allergic reaction to any kind of hair dye or henna. Aki recommended I try Hair Manicure, a Japanese product that coats your hair and doesn't touch the scalp. It lasts about 4-6 weeks and it works great for me! I booked an appointment to have a balayage done, checking first with her if that was part of their service. Once I came I explained what I was looking for, and asked if I could come again in case I wasn't 100% happy with the results (since it was the first time doing the hair color with her). She said that if I wanted to fix it I should pay again. Also, she said she didn't think she could do what I was asking for and I had to leave. Total waist of time. Very disappointing. A month later I made an appointment for a haircut and found out that she just opened this Studio 206. I was very happy with how my haircut turned out; it was exactly what I wanted and what I used to have back home in Asia (layered cut and thin at the bottom). I have lived in the US for more than a decade and *very* few hairdressers produced satisfying results. This was my first time going to a higher end/Japanese salon, and I left it up to her to do what she felt would look good. Her experience showed as my haircut turned out great. This is a new salon (3 months old~) so there is relatively little reviews. Nevertheless, I would recommend everyone to check out this salon if you're in the area. Be sure to make an appointment beforehand though! Aki is very nice and skilled at what she does (she's from Japan and has honed her skills there!). She took care of the wifey with hair coloring and me with a fresh haircut. Her salon has a modern minimalist theme and is very clean. She was easy to talk to, is knowledgeable, and very accommodating. Although the price is on the higher end ($55 men's haircut w/out tip), you get what you pay for.
