My bestie chose to come to Harlem Tavern to celebrate her birthday. We both discovered this place during the summer when we were in Harlem. We had a table reservation for 8 people and we were seated promptly when we arrived. Everyone enjoyed their food. However, I was told the jerk chicken quesadilla was really spicy. But that can always be added afterwards so that's fine. My friend loved her burger. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and just overall a delicious burger. The fries were also tasty as well. The entrees also came out very quickly (before we finished our appetizers) and were hot and fresh just like the appetizers. Alongside the speedy and well coordinated service, we both enjoyed our impromptu evening at the Harlem Tavern. The prices were very fair considering the amount of food we ate. While not perfect, it's a great place to grab a quick bite and hang with some friends. I imagine they get pretty busy while major sporting events are on with the amount of tvs around, so plan accordingly. I'd say try them out! read more

Throwback and today's R&B croons from the speakers. The space can be loud depending on where you sit. If you're looking for a quiet experience, sit inside, in the back. The decor is pretty typical for bar and grill. Service 7/10 The service at Harlem Tavern is quick and pretty efficient. They waiters aren't super personable but they do a great job of making sure your food comes out fast and checking in on you multiple times. While I don't see them really making connections with the patrons, they are definitely working hard. Food 8/10 My favorite meal from HT is the Turkey Burger because it's juicy and thick. The caramelized onions on it are cooked to perfection and give it the perfect touch. Turkey Burger gets a 8/10. In efforts to unbig my back, I also had a caesar salad and it was just ok. They accidentally gave me mayo instead of caesar dressing so I had to put my own ranch on it. Salad gets a 5/10 for me. My bf usually gets the Salmon burger and yall know I always get a sample from him. It's also juicy and flavorful and has the same onions on it. I give the salmon burger a 7.5/10. Though I didn't get it this time, I also love their pot of mussels. For a bar, they have good food. I love that HT (and the kitchen) is open until midnight on weekdays and 1am on weekends. Two Stars - Disappointed Midday Experience I stopped into Harlem Tavern during the afternoon to try the smashburger, but unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to expectations. The burger came out warm--not hot--which made it clear it had been sitting for a while. I was the only person at the bar, but the bartender (whose name started with an M) seemed more focused on unpacking liquor boxes than checking in on my order. I completely understand restocking is part of the job, but service still matters, especially when there's no crowd. I asked for condiments, which never arrived, and by the time I realized they weren't coming, the meal was already halfway done. Harlem Tavern is a great place to meet with fri, especially during the warmer months (It's hot now). I met a dozen of my classmates from college and Harlem Tavern was up to the occasion. It's a large space with plenty of shaded outdoor seating and plenty of clean restrooms to handle the capacity of people. This is one of the first places I recall with sidewalk cafe style and outdoor seating in Harlem. It's a little noisy for some, but it's a Friday evening in NYC and folks were ready to let loose. I have to tip my hat to the waiter and staff bussing out the food. The waiter had only one mistake for a large table of a dozen or more people ordering appetizers, mains, and drinks on a hectic evening. I had the short ribs with the mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. At least two others in our party ordered the same. It's a savory wonder. I don't understand some of the reviews here, declaring it flavorless and dry. The only thing I noticed was the sauce reduction or gravy was a bit out of balance, because I tasted the Worcestershire sauce in it. This is not a big deal, given I doubt if many would detect this. The meat is very tender, falling apart so that it soaks up that delicious gravy, which works well in concert with the mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. It's a fair amount of food and priced at $28, one of the highest priced on the menu, but not out of line with the prevailing rate. The menu offerings are varied and extensive. The seafood pasta dish looked and smelled great. One of my friends ordered the steak burger and a loved it. A few ordered the burger and fries. I ordered draught beer, but they have a good selection of frozen daiquiris and margaritas perfect for summer. The food gets three and a half stars and they get an extra half star for the service and ambience. You and your friends will enjoy a great time here as we did. read more

We sat on the outside covered area and the noise level was a bit much. Just be aware, not sure if in the proper restaurant/indoor area if it's any better. For mains ordered the Truffle burger (I love me some truffle) and the Codfish Po'boy sandwich. Ended up splitting both in half and sharing the other 1/2 with one another as they were so good. The burger was cooked perfectly and not overwhelmed with truffle and the codfish po'boy was crispy with the lettuce, tomato, mayo and the bread all adding to the flavor.
