The perfect place for breakfast. We hit it after church, busy but not too busy, easy to find. Good strong coffee, very good service, and a delicious breakfast. We had different orders and everything was delicious. I had eggs fried hard and they were perfect. The sausage was very good, and the home potatoescreen were good as well. Our party went on a Sunday with 6 people and we were seated very quickly. Everything that everyone ordered was very good. The price was reasonable and for the portion sizes they were outstanding. I ordered chicken fried pork loin, included in my meal was the loin covered in gravy(very good), three eggs (over medium, perfect), hash browns(extra crispy, best I've had in Anchorage), biscuit and gravy, and a slice of watermelon. Then at the end of our meal they brought a "Harley Cake" to everyone. Which was basically a pecan toffee griddle cake, (made the perfect dessert to end the meal.) And did I mention, it was also included with every meal. Their coffee cups are really cool, and the fried okra was delicious. My wife and I both got that much food, and coffee, and we left for only $30 including the tip@ 20%. Service was also excellent. My coffee was never empty. read more

Went here this morning with a friend to grab some breakfast. The place is kind of a dive. No matching plates and cups, cleanliness could definitely have used some help, along with the appearance of their staff was frumpy and not really professional. It really has that mom and pops feel to it, but without the warm hospitality that should go with it. The overall visit really teetered on a 2 and 3 star experience. I went here yesterday for breakfast and I got the skillet. The waiter set down the skillet sideways not saying be careful this is hot so I pulled it over, burning my fingers. There was no pot holder on the handle. They didn't seem to really be concerned about my burn. Didn't offer to pay for the tab or even just my meal. Hey Harley's get some pot holders!!! I had been wanting to come to this place and try their sourdough pancakes (which I am a pretty good judge of) so finally today I did. Disappointed I was served what looked ... and tasted like ordinary pancakes from a mix (thick, not spongy and NOT SOUR) . When asked the waitress assured me they were indeed what I ordered but then said "all batches are different" I was going to just send them back and leave but she insisted to let the kitchen make a new order with a new batch of sourdough -- I thought: sure..... anyway the 2nd try was ok... yes just ok ... again not true sourdough pancakes -- thick and doughy with just a hint of sourness. Does any place in Anchorage make good ones? (The waitress WAS nice though and DID TRY - I'll give them that much but I won't return to pay over $9 for their pancakes) The earlier posting from 2011 has me baffled. read more

My mom took me here for lunch because she read good reviews about it in the paper, but boy we're they wrong. Not only was the service bad, the food worse, but the whole layout/seating of this place was just absolutely horrible. Everything felt cramped together, the seats and tables were very uncomfortably small. I ordered the beef brisket and my mom ordered the chicken cutlet. My brisket was tough and dry whereas my mom's chicken was soggy and unappetizing. The waitress did nothing to help us even though we were trying our best to be polite. Worst food ever. I don't know how you can burn fries, make them soggy and have them come out cold but they did it. Also the "homemade" mashed potatoes are instant topped with salty packaged gravy mix. The homemade onion rings were horrible and all the breading was falling off and these were soggy as well. We went to lunch here which was a nice meeting break and better than catering in. It was OK, the staff was pleasant and friendly and the food was OK ( just OK ) I think whoever was cooking forgot to clean the grill (if you know what I mean) - The interior was really cool, nicely decorated and the prices were fair for the portion of food. Reasonable place for breakfase: the place is clean, the staff is nice, service is quick. Breakfast places are hard to stand out from average, to get four or five stars they must do something quite well, or unique - but for breakfast most people's standards seem to decline. Reindeer sausage: cooked perfectly, not greasy - presented well, and delicious. Sourdough pancakes - the reason I went there - a hint of sourdough but tasted much more like buttermilk pancakes than sourdough pancakes. I suspect those places where great sourdough pancakes reign prepare them differently, or have another way they treat the starter - these were just pancakes, and since I love sourdough pancakes I am unlikely ever to return to have these. Bacon - prepared not over crispy or underdone - not greasy. Kids - they treat kids very well here- a good place to go with them. Coffee - above average (which says a lot for most places) - not a place I would go for premium coffee and they don't have a barista- but if I want someone to make a flower with cream in my coffee I will find someone who does that. I prefer my coffee to taste like coffee, not be bitter, and reasonably fresh. This passed that test. Prices are reasonable. This is a passable breakfast place. Easy to park - it is on the south side of the street just by the 76th Ave and Old Seward Highway intersection. If you are in the area, and want a breakfast that won't kill you, but sustain you- this is it. read more

It's not a fancy establishment but small and located in a strip mall. I was searching for sourdough pancakes that I ordered with reindeer sausage. I had tried sourdough pancakes at another establishment in Spenard and was disappointed. They were large and thick. Harley's definitely surpassed them, mine were small, thin and chewy, just like I remember my Mom making. The reindeer sausage was great! My brother had an everything omelette with biscuits and gravy, lots of food. The prices were reasonable and our server, Daniel did an outstanding job. If you're in the mood for an old-time "greasy spoon" meal, Harley's is the place to go. I usually go there for breakfast on a weekend, and am always happy with the meal I get. They have a really good breakfast the one thing that I had there was the chicken fried steak and eggs they did my eggs perfect the chicken fried steak was in the top five of the best I've ever eaten and they know how to make country gravy for biscuits and gravy did a good job on that I could say that service could be a little better I base my server on them not letting my coffee cup sit empty and it did a couple times but other than that a great place for breakfast .The coffee was good and I had the chili cheese omelette the next time I went it was very tasty also.Would recommend it for a good place to have a good country breakfast read more

I stopped in on Sunday for a breakfast, it was packed and I see why. Interesting menu, I had a tamale with my eggs Benedict Harley style, but what really gives them high marks in my book was how the food was cooked without being burnt or underdone... Especially the eggs.. Omelette was done correctly, scrambled eggs were right, even the poach on my eggs were just right. Hash browns were spot on. I went for breakfast and liked it, prices were good but I've been back twice since then and it's only gotten worse. The next time I went the service was terrible, we were seated and our order was taken and then we were forgotten about. All the tables around us were served their food and left before our waitress even came back to check on us. By that point I was ready to leave but she assured us the food would be right up and it was but I found a hair in my grits. You want a diamond in the rough this is a place to go. The food is excellent and the portions are of the take home size. Sunday is our favorite for the perfectly made eggs benedict and Harley cakes. Don't judge the dated tables and booths because this is a restaurant and you go to a restaurant for the food and that is outstanding.
