I have done take out and dined in at the Harmony Cafe in the past. The take out wasn't memorable but what was memorable was ordering Prosecco to enjoy while we waited for our food. The owner said he had a special Prosecco and that he had "a guy" who gets it for him special. He let us keep the bottle since it was our anniversary weekend. When we got back home, I googled the label on the bottle and to my surprise, it turned out his "guy" was Trader Joe. That was good for a few laughs. The dining in meals were at the restaurant's special events with a fixed menu and price. We met friends there for those meals. Both meals were nothing to write home or a review about. Our friends felt the same way. I thought eventually, we would dine there when we are in town enjoying our second home. After today, I will reconsider. My wife and I were near the cafe and she wanted to go into a particular shop. There was no parking spot available so I dropped her off and parked next to the cafe. I stayed in the car to wait for her. I noticed a crude handmade sign on an orange cone that read "parking for Harmony Cafe". There was one car ahead of me but I waited with the engine running. After about 5 minutes, a door opens from the side of the restaurant and a woman comes out. I didn't think anything of it. A few seconds later she comes out again and goes behind my car and takes a photo of my license plate. I thought that was hilarious. First of all, it's a public parking space that apparently the Harmony Cafe has commandeered with a makeshift sign. I have never seen another business in town do such a thing. Cambria is such a peaceful and relaxed place, very laid back but just don't park in the Harmony parking spots if you aren't a diner. Dining with a group of 10, we had a lovely time in a lovely setting. Surrounded by flowers, sitting on patio in glorious Cambria cool weather escaping the heat of Paso. The menu is fairly small, but I'd eat everyone...all sounded great. I ordered the Pappardelle with Mushroom ragu. Decent portion, good pasta, and tasty...but didn't have enough mushies to be the named sauce (which I wanted). [$26, 4.0 stars] We asked for bread (which came when we were 2/3 done) was "okay" and drizzled with olive oil for $6. Nope, not worthy. Giovanni, the owner, is delightful and welcoming. Chef Giovanni has a truly unique menu filled with Italian classics as well as some of his own artistic inventions. Delicious food and generous portions. Also, the wine menu is quite good and updates frequently. Adorable and delicious! Great dog friendly patio with some shade, some sun, and the cutest little orange bistro tables. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and helpful (thank you Aaron!) and it was an overall awesome experience. The ambiance of the garden/patio with a peekaboo view of downtown Cambria was unparalleled and uniquely pleasing. It was somehow quiet and secluded without being closed off from the world, and time even seemed to slow when we were there. The food was delicious, the owner was fantastic, and the place was cozy. I highly recommend the angel hair pasta and the white fish. For a two-person operation, the service was surprisingly fast. Recently returned to the play house my grandparents were part of long ago when Olga and Jim started it back in the early '70s. Love that my grandfathers photographs still remain on the walls of the entryway to the old theatre. I've dined at Harmony Cafe 2-3 times before. This evening with friends was delightful. The service Ruth provided was kind and efficient. The wine we selected was lovely. The pasta was spectacular. We really enjoyed the flavor of our pizza choice. My experience with Harmony Cafe is one I'll remember for a long time to come. It was still morning when I arrived, and inside, a group was preparing for one of those Sip and Paint events. I wasn't sure whether it was appropriate to order just cappuccino--I'm a writer and was looking for a place to sit and mark up some stories--and was encouraged to to just that. Spent an idyllic time alone on the charming patio, with server Aaron checking on me from time to time and assuring me there was no hurry. The coffee was wonderful, too. I enjoyed my visit so much that, when my husband wanted to have a late lunch that same day, I suggested Harmony Cafe. We had a lovely meal on the patio, now busy with customers. I had the ciabatta chicken and a salad and husband enjoyed a fresh fish dish which sadly we can't recall the name of. The Ambiance was wonderful! Love the intimate atmosphere, piano player was a true treat. Before he arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to have a throwback to my youth with an album playing on a record player! It felt like good times past. The service was what we would hope for- friendly and not rushed- so that we may enjoy our meal, quiet conversation and music. We have been coming to Cambria a dozen or more times a year and have not stopped in to eat. That will change now. We fell in love with the Pappardelle Noodle with Mushrooms. The noodles are freshly made, the sauce was exceptional. There's not one thing in this dish that we did not thoroughly enjoy! The green salad dressing was light with flavorful. Came in here last Saturday, October 9. Catalina was our hostess/server, could not ask for better service. She said us down at a very romantic table.. Restaurant was clean. They had about five couples in there. Beautiful atmosphere And the booths were very comfortable. I ordered the steak medium rare, it was cooked to perfection. The steak was about 6 ounces, nothing spectacular, Had a nice savory flavor to it and it came with a side of sliced tomatoes which I've never seen served with steak, especially for that price of $28.00. My date ordered the special which was veal. It was a decent size portion and a nice portion of risotto. The risotto was overcooked, the veal was mostly fat. When the bill came out, yes I had no idea it was $38.00 For a fatty piece of veal. No bread was offered or any other sides. The desert was amazing! Seems like the chef is clueless when it comes to pairing entrées. Two good things came out of this dinner, our server Catalina was awesome, and we really enjoyed the bottle of wine. We ordered cod and salmon for dinner. We waited 50 minutes . Both fish were overcooked. The so called sweet potatoes were some type of fried cubed starch but were tough to chew and seemed to be old potatoes fried again . The waitress tried her best, but when we complained she didn't seem empowered to do anything but give us the bill. The owner not cook came to speak to us. For a 34 dollar dish, I would have expected better quality of food, service and care of quality. If I could rank this place I would give it less than 1. Hidden Gem! We recently moved to the central coast and wanted to check out what cambria has to offer. This gem is at the end of main street. It caters to dietary restrictions, it is also child and dog friendly. I had the vegan eggplant burger. The pesto was homemade. The eggplant was grilled and marinated perfectly. I would order again. My husband had the Venetian seafood spaghettini, my mother the homemade ravioli and my daughter butter spaghetti. We all enjoyed our meals, with little to nothing left on our plates. My mom was so excited to share this place with me. So, I went with my parents for lunch after some morning sight-seeing. First, let me tell you that I am not a condiment lover and if something has mayo, ranch, or dijon I will automatically ask for it to be taken off... I don't care how well it goes with the sandwich or salad, I do not want it nor will I like it. So, I was already on the defense when my mom told me that her cousin asked for no dressing on the sandwich and the chef actually came out and told her no, that this is how the sandwich tastes best and he all-but refused to take it off. Ugh. But... I tried to go in with a positive mindset. The place is super cute, old, and quaint, and has so much potential. Big windows up front to view the adorable street shopping outside, plus a fantastic patio for nice days. Fun window bench seating on a couple of the tables inside, as well. However, as cute as it is, we were not greeted in a friendly manner... almost ignored and no smile. That being said, the hostess/waitress did warm up and turned out to be very pleasant, she just has a different personality. I ended up giving her two thumbs up once I figured her out. Personally, I was not impressed with the menu. I only saw two items that I would be willing to try. Too boujee-like. But I did end up landing on the eggplant sandwich which was served on a soft wheat hamburger bun. My parents each had the chicken pesto sammie; two ciabatta buns with chicken and pesto inside. You get no choice but to have a salad with your sandwiches... and God forbid that I ask for no salad (I wanted to since it has an awful creamy dressing on spicy lettuce) for fear that the chef would come slap my wrist. So, out the sandwiches came with the salad. I tried 2 bites and was done. Such a waste of ingredients when I knew I wouldn't like it. I'd still pay full price even with the salad off, I just didn't want it due to ingredients I don't, and won't, ever like. Please try to have a selection for us, we get it that you've created a nice combo... but not everyone has the same tastes nor to we want to feel scolded for opting to not have it. I didn't eat my salad and the waitress also said "not eating your greens today, huh?" .... C'mon. The prices seemed pretty high too. Plus, if you just want water you have to pay for a bottle of water. Two thumbs down; one for making us pay for water and two for the plastic bottles that will end up in a landfill. Again, my personal opinion there. Anyway, to sum it up: Not a bad experience, this place is cute, my sandwich selection was pretty yummy, service was polite-ish, and cool vibe with the pure vintageness all around. If you're looking for food you would find in any big city that is absolutely delicious this is the place. Dinner is usually on weekends call to check. The owner is the chef and although you may have a wait for your food it is absolutely worth it. Don't be discouraged if you don't see a ton of people this is the best kept secret in Cambria. We had an amazing pasta beet purée with a truffle mushroom sauce, crazy water which is the most amazing fish soup I have every had (wish I knew the secret mine is just good not incredible). The salmon with zucchini spirals tasted just like real pasta and was a real treat for a low carb option. One more thing our server was friendly, professional and knew the menu.
