This is such a cute tea house that you want to take all your friends to so I chose it as my baby shower venue. It held a group of approx 30 people nicely. The place isn't too big so a group larger than that would be too tight in my opinion. The owner was very accommodating and service was good. Everyone had such a great time that some of the guests returned with their other friends. Like I said this place makes you want to bring everyone and their moms there. Considering giving this place a 4 because of the slow service, but the food is definitely worth a 5 and they are still currently hiring because 2 people is definitely not enough to be working an almost 40 seat property! I was expecting to pay more for an experience than a meal, but the food was delicious and exceeded my expectations. Got the Hospitali-tea set with soup, salad, scones, sandwiches and a pot of tea ($25). The roasted bell pepper soup was spot-on with a really great underlying herb-y taste? One of the salads we got had a phenomenal goat cheese and cranberry jam topping that I highly recommend. The sandwiches had good variety and the scones came with 3 different sauces. Decided to give the place a whirl today despite the cautions about service. I'm a huge fan of Rolling Pin Cafe but needed a quieter place for a conversation. The place was EMPTY. Our table and one other. It's beautifully decorated, and I adore the mismatched China on the tables. The service was impeccable. And I am a service snob. Truly excellent. I was in the neighborhood visiting a friend and I wandered into Harmony and it was an experience I will never forget. Everyone was extremely friendly. I've visited several tea rooms around the world (Korea, Amsterdam, London, Bangkok, France, and more) and each has a different feel. Harmony Tea Room is the best. I can't say enough about their amazing collection of teas; scones so good, while on a diet, I had to have 2 more; and meticulously prepared food and presentation. I enjoyed Harmony Tea Room, though I will always have more loyalty to Belamari Tea Room in Hawthorne. I do wish there was more tea selection in terms of white, green, and red tea. There was a large selection of black teas (earl grey, irish breakfast, darjeeling, etc), but only 2 green teas and a few herbal teas that were fruit flavored. Since I'm not a huge fan of fruity flavors, there wasn't any other option besides black tea. read more

My sister booked this for a private party for my future sister in law. I had never heard of this place before but would def recommend it for those who want to see their girlfriends and mix it up in a non bar setting. The ambiance is very warm and welcoming but I am leaving such a high rating based on service. Michele was our waitress and she went over the flow of the event, she welcomed guests, handed out mimosas, took special note to any allergies. She advised specific times that would be good for any games and a time to open presents she even offered to take photos and bring the presents out as we were leaving. The rudest service I've ever encountered. I called in advance and made a reservation for 2, for my husband's birthday. When I arrived the place was entirely empty except for one large party taking up a few tables. The waitress began to seat us at one of 2 tables where our side would be against a wall and we were out of natural light. I asked if we would be able to sit at one of, at least 4 other, open tables that were not against the wall, nor next to the kitchen entry. The waitress said no these are reserved. I asked her "reserved how?", now fairly confused as to what my reservation was for,...she had to go back and forth to her manager a number of times to finally tell me that they prioritize searing based on when you call...so apparently if I had called and made my reservation earlier I would have been able to sit in one of the nice seats, next to natural light instead of the dank seating in the back. We then proceeded to sit and for 50 minutes of the hour we spent there, those four tables remained empty. There's no way the four reservations at those tables all spefically asked to sit there. Rude for absolutely no reason. Would not go back after being treated that way. Food is decent, tea is nice, overall portion is pretty small compared to other afternoon teas though. They also have to ask their managers if you want an extra scone or cookie . Seems like the place is being run by someone very fickle. read more

My first experience with Harmony Tea Room was a couple of years ago when I attended a baby shower. The easy-going atmosphere really enhanced the party which was for a woman expecting twins. It was a joyous celebration and we never felt rushed. It took me a year to come back on my own, but I remembered the atmosphere and thought it would be a good place to take a friend whom I hadn't seen for a while and wanted a place where the food was "just right" and we'd have the time for a long chat that we hadn't had in ages. It was so enjoyable, we've been back - and my friend started listing all the people she thought would like Harmony. Today I came with my granddaughter, who is 10 years old. When she was about two years old she fell in love with my collection of 1 cup teapots and always wanted to have her juice served in one of my pots. We used to call it Coco Tea. When she turned 10 this year I wanted to give her something really special, something unique. So I invited her to Coco Tea at Harmony Tea Room. When she got the invitation, she was so pleased. She and I and her aunt had a wonderful time today, and she wants to come again. Were we served lickity-split? No, but that's not the point of being here. It's not a fast food place, it's an old world concept where you sit and have a conversation and the tea and the food enhance the experience. read more

Been meaning to check this place out for a while now. Such a cute place for tea. Would be a nice place for an event too. Had the Sereni-tea, a taste of the artichoke bisque (yum) and polished off my friend's salad which came with walnuts. If you are a big eater, go for both the soup and salad. If you don't like blue cheese or goat cheese you might be sans cheese here. What a wonderful assortment of food. Chose the oatmeal apricot scone which came with clotted cream, strawberry preserve & lemon preserve. Finger sandwiches today were cucumber, sun dried tomato with pesto, Asian chicken salad served in a pastry, beets with horseradish cream on toast & a fried olive (interesting). Desserts today were lemon thyme bread, matcha cookie & a white chocolate raspberry bar. Everything was tasty. For tea had the almond joy (good and could taste the chocolate notes) and sampled the crime of passion (fragrant, fruity green tea - really enjoyed this one). Free refill of a whole pot of tea. Great service. Only complaint is that the finger sandwich section was a little small. Apparently parking is only 25 cents for 2 hours. read more

They didn't tried being stingy and only give us one tea sandwich when our order came with two and instead the waitress says the little savory items are sandwiches. Really? We secured this place for a Bridal Shower the last weekend of August 2014. The time was from 11am-2pm. We spoke to the owner on many occasions leading up to the event confirming that we would be bringing items to decorate for the Bridal Shower. The owner Maryanne said it would be ok. We also asked if we could be let in earlier than the time specified as we would need time to get things in place and setup before the guests arrived. She said, 10:15am was the earliest we could be let in. Not much time, but not too bad since this was a small party and the items used to setup were packaged the night before to be easily unpackaged and placed where we wanted them. Its all about the planning! So, we arrived around 9:55am, parked right in front so we could get in quickly. 10:15 a woman shows up and opens the door. I walk up to the door and she says" who are you?" I told her I was there to get things situated for the shower, etc... She said she cant let me in. I explained the time limitation as guests would be arriving sooner rather than later as this location was a good 45-60 minutes from everyone invited. She said she could not let me in until about a half hour from now...?! Half hour?!! Umm, the time would then be 10:45am. Guests would be arriving. The woman was super rude. I pushed my way in and said every minute counts here and I am setting up as I was told I could by Maryanne(The owner who happened to not be around that day)-go figure. Guests did arrive with us on the cusp of finishing setting up! Nice Place. Nice Inside. But very Rude woman who ran the place that day. Someone tried moving their seat to sit at another table during the event and she yelled and said NO, you cannot move the seats! They are assigned to tables.....Ok crazy lady! We had the place to ourselves, why cant we move a chair? No one there was nice at all! So, now it was time to cut the Bridal Shower cake and if the knife got so much as closer than two inches from the cake by the bride to be, the woman there said she would have to charge her!! The bride to be was just posing for photos and this woman said that THEY have to cut the cake because its 2 dollars per cut. They charged TWO dollars per slicing of the cake! They did not provide the cake. This was our cake, but they charged to do the cutting!! Ridiculous! 1:59PM, everyone OUT! Kicked out. Literally kicked out. Rudely told everyone it's time to leave! WOW! Blown away! How does a customer driven place stay in business when people who run it have no concept of manners or hold any people skills whatsoever! This would have been a great place to revisit for a bite, etc... but after the experience with the Bridal Shower, no way! Everyone there felt the same. I had wanted to visit this adorable little place for years, finally got the opportunity to on a Sunday afternoon. (yesterday) I can't say enough about it -- what a fun and exciting experience! We (myself & two girlfriends) had the Sereni-Tea -- I had the Birthday Cake Tea -- it was like drinking a birthday cake -- so delicious- and we also had the Icewine tea -- another favorite. We also had soup and salad -- salads were fresh and beautifully presented -- nice sized. The soup I had was yellow squash -- absolutely fabulous! Then the delicious food came -- oh wow! 7 assorted finger sandwiches -- all super fresh and delicious -- I couldn't decide which I liked best -- they were all so good! The scone was warm and absolutely perfect. And little matcha cookie, raspberry tart and baby cupcake to finish it off. Everything was presented in a stunning manner. OUr server was Michelle, and she was lovely -- explained everything to us patiently and was happy to recommend her favorites when we asked. She was adorable. I'll be back. LOVE this place! read more

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!! Do not book kids parties here please. I had a terrible experience last Thursday. I booked my daughters 5th Birthday party here and from the time we got to the place till we left it was terrible. Firstly, when we got there which was about20 minutes before the party they told us they can't let us in cos they were cleaning and setting up. So we had to stand outside in the cold and rain. I had the birthday cake with me and they didn't even ask if they could take it and keep it for me. As my guests arrived all the staff were in the kitchen. No one was interacting with the kids. After a while they came out and told the kids to put on the princesses dresses. They played 1 game with the kids. Very little interaction with the kids. I brought 2 cakes to be served at the party, 1 for the kids and 1 for the parents. Firstly, when I called to confirm the part on Wednesday the told me there was a plating charge for the cake........a "PLATING CHARGE" for a 5 year old Birthday is just absurd. They never served the other cake to parents and at the end of the party they handed me the whole cake. Lastly, when I called to tell the manager how disappointed I was with the party, she told me that if it makes me happy she would refund me some money but couldn't tell me right then what she will refund me and that she would call me back. I paid $600 for the party. She called later to tell me that she would refund me $50.......HUH!!!! PLEASE don't ever consider having a kids party here. read more

Listen peeps you've been warned. The service here is infamous for being terrible with the rudest entourage of staff all thrown into one establishment. So if you can get past that you're solid, but if it bugs you then you may want to explore alternatives. We had a party of 12 come in for my sisters shower which was great given she didn't want any big fanfare and just a nice, pretty meal with the gals. The staff understood our smaller party and were cool with it because normally parties require 25 individuals. They allowed us to come in about 25 min before our reservation to set up little bits of decor like a banner and table cards. However, they put our party at two separate tables. This made no sense to me because we are celebrating a shower so why would we sit separately. The owner was there and argued with us about how if she consolidated the tables the room wouldn't look good for the other guests. I don't know what she was talking about especially since the place was pretty much empty the whole time we were there and we were making up a huge party. My other sister had asked her a couple of times about moving the tables together and she BLATANTLY IGNORED HER, and then when they finally agreed she essentially shut my sister up by telling her she didn't need her help to move a rather sizable table. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but this has b*tch written all over it. I think she tried to redeem herself later by complimenting my shoes but come on we are not idiots; you're too late, lady. Our meal progressed and was well organized. My mom claimed the waitress was rude and put her in check by speaking again to the manager. That seemed to lift the ugly veil. They didn't give us water and with all the sweets in front of us we could use it. I also felt the food was not amazing. The pastries in particular didn't taste fresh. They were also surprisingly stingy with staples like the lemon curd, clotted cream and jam. For example they put two little dishes of each on the table for a party of 12 which wasn't nearly enough. I asked for more and they brought it out but how ridiculous. Other tea houses would give us that size per person! They did however have a good tea selection. The funniest bit was that at the end of the party when the groom and my other brother in law arrived the owner approached them asking if they could repair her toilet which seemed to have broken down. After being a total jerk to us she had the nerve to ask us to fix her toilet. Call a plumber!!! I wish my soon to be brother in law wasn't so nice because he took a look at it for her. She should have knocked off a portion of the bill as a result. I'm excited for more tea spots like this to pop up so that Harmony takes a good long look at their business practices. read more

I'm a little late on my review of the Tea room, but recent events made me want to post up a review. My fiancée and I took my Mom here for her birthday on a Sunday in late January of this year. The food was delicious, the tea was great and the service was so so. The server we had was good, but the problem was that he was one of two servers covering the entire place. Being under staffed definitely had an affect on the level of service they were able to provide each guest. During our brunch I tried the Vanilla bourbon tea, which was absolutely amazing! I'm not a big tea drinker but I've had enough to know (and been to other tea rooms like Alice's tea cup in NYC) when something is good, and this was. This brings me to today... Unlike me, my brother is a big tea drinker. I had a last minute idea to pick him up some loose tea (the vanilla bourbon) for his birthday. Upon stopping by the tea room I noticed there was a sign stating there was a private party. Trying not to be rude, I immediate turned away from the door and walked back to my car. I called the store to ask when it might be reopened for regular business. A female staff member took my call (didn't catch her name) and as I explained to her that I just stopped by and saw the private party sign, but wanted to get some loose tea. Before I could finish saying that I was calling to ask when they would be back open to the public, she cut me off saying "now isn't a good time"... Okay, I understand, (I said) that's why I'm calling, to find out when would be a good time to stop in? She then told me the party will run all day, sorry not today. It really bummed me out that she didn't seem to care to even make an attempt to capture my business on a future date. Providing the upcoming store hours, or taking down my number in case the party wrapped up early would have been a better route to take. My guess is the reason the woman rushed me off the phone is/was because they were yet again understaffed. It's too bad, because this place has some great potential but this kind of service doesn't make you want to go back. Had it not been for my poor run ins with the service here, I would have given this place a 3 star (3.5) if that existed. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 4, is because the amount of food they give when compared to the price isn't the best ratio. read more

We ordered the Hospitali-Tea, and loved all the components - the butternut squash soup, the Harmony salad, finger sandwiches, chocolate chip scones and cookies. I really enjoyed this place! This is the third tea time place I've been to and it's my second favorite. The service was great, the tea that I had (crime of passion which is a green tea with hints of passion fruit and papaya) was delicious. I also ordered the Serendipi-tea meal which came with 5 finger sandwiches, 1 scone (your choice of oatmeal cinnamon, cranberry, chocolate chip, or plain), and 3 desserts. They all were so delicious. I had been to the Harmony Tea Room when it was in its old location in Westwood. That experience was, overall, positive with my only complaint being the service - very slow even when there were not many customers there. This time around, at the new location, I pleasantly found the service to be improved. However, this improvement was based upon our waitress who was the only server on the day we were there. She couldn't have been nicer or more attentive and certainly deserves an award for being able to handle a packed room all by herself. Both my friend and I ordered the full high tea service which included soup and salad. We both enjoyed the pumpkin cranberry soup which was excellent. I had the new fall salad which was also very good. Both dishes really put you in the autumn mood. The usual sandwiches, scones and sweets were all delectible, with a nice variety. Since the room is larger at the new location compared to the old, the intimacy factor is missing, which I enjoyed before. The new place is very accommodating and the table settings are lovely. It does, however, lose a bit of the warmth that the old location had. It's nice to be able to have high tea on this side of the Hudson. Although I've been to a number of the NYC hotels for tea - which is a wonderful experience - the Harmony Tea Room does provide a very nice alternative here in NJ. read more

I recently attended a shower at this facility and was completely disappointed. The small amount of food was fine but each guest was offered a glass of expensive wine by the waitress shoving a half filled glass at the guest and asking if they had asked for it without being informed of the choices available which were several. The hostess had asked for the wine to be left out for the guests to help themselves which was not done either. Water was not offered nor were their glasses for it out. After sitting and conversing for several hours water would have been welcome addition. If the proprietress cannot handle a party of people she shouldn't accept the reservation which is not a bargain for what is given in a very unprofessional manner. read more

I recently booked a party for a baby shower at the tea room having never been there before. The place seemed perfect and pre decorated with a lovely tea theme. The arrangements leading up to the party seemed fairly straight forward. I selected a package, teas and advised of the total attending along with a $150 deposit. The day of the party we came a half hour ahead to set up and admittedly upon arrival we had an inaccurate guest number 23, vs 20 that we had advised them of. There were enough seats to accommodate, but we were given attitude for the miscount. Clearly children were not welcome at this event as we had 3 kids over the age of 10 and one 6 year old. They were ignored, told not to touch the tea cups and made to feel incredibly uncomfortable. We were told they needed adult supervision at all times. This was pretty much how they made the rest of the guests feel as well. Requests for hot tea pots were ignored. The guests were rushed and several requests for additional beverages were ignored. At first I thought it was just me but as each and every guest left they all said the same thing, "cute place but the people are so rude". Upon paying the bill we were told the total did not include any deposit. I was confused because i knew i had made one, but they proceeded to process a charge against the full fee. I looked up my credit card statement and saw that in fact had paid $150 in February. They said it was an oversight. They seemed incredibly flip about it and it seemed they would have been fine collecting an additional fee. We asked for our extra champagne and were told that there was none left. This would have meant that the adults drinking would have consumed a half a bottle each. I thought it was highly unlikely but not worth the discussion the party was over. It is possible they are correct, however I only mention it for this reason. Our party ended at 2 pm. At 7 pm the owner called to ask if any of my guests may have taken an item that she had on display for sale. I told her i would ask the people with kids, but then thought how rude that was. We just spent over a thousand dollars on tea and you are calling me to see if someone stole something. Im not shocked by the rudeness, but I now think they stole the champagne. Sadly the elements of this place are on point, but with an owner with the skill set better suited for anything not dealing with the public I cannot recommend this place EVER. read more

Now that my family lives so close to here, I was looking fwd to trying it. I had the chance the other day. It's a lovely space that brings u right into a British tea time outing. We actually arrived as they were planning to close on nye, but they still let us in, which was super kind. The tea selection is superb and they have soups, finger sandwiches and scones, all delicious. There are various packages to choose from depending on what you want to eat with the tea. The downside is the price. There didn't seem to be an option to just have a cup of tea on its own, I think a pot of tea is the least one can order. With two of us ordering soup and two pots of tea plus a plate of finger sandwiches and a scone, we spent $45 on what we thought would be a cheap mug of tea. It was delicious, but hurt the wallet. Delicious scones, savory tea sandwiches and delightful assorted sweets and a nice selection of teafrom which to choose. The decor was interesting with teacups and saucers artistically attached to the walls and even the restroom had unique decor consisting of a vintage childrens dress hanging on the wall and other vintage look decor. Let me start by saying, I love Harmony Tea Room! The food is excellent, the tea selection is excellent (the white riesling, and icewine teas are my current favorites)...but even the new place is small for the number of people that come in. Still, I always make reservations early when they open and haven't had a problem. Expect to stay AT LEAST 2 hours when you come in...whether I'm ordering the full Hospitali-tea (pot of tea, scone, soup and salad, finger sandwiches and sweets) or the Uni-tea (soup and salad with a pot of tea), I've never had a "quick meal" here. Along those lines, the service is unbelievably slow, even if it's not crowded. As with many areas in Bergen County, there's only metered parking and spots are tough to find, but I manage if I'm patient. But once again, the food is delicious, yes, a bit pricey, but I just can't resist the mismatched tea cups and place settings, or the tiered plate stands! They even had a Downton Abbey themed soiree (fixed menu, but it was still fun)! I always find myself craving their menu and unlike other reviewers, have never left hungry. Today was the 1st time I went to Harmony Tea Room but my friends had been there before. I had the Singulari-tea which was a large Harmony Salad (baby greens, pear, apple, walnuts, and goat cheese) and a pot of Darjeeling tea. We each ordered a scone and split them so we had a taste of all (cranberry, oatmeal-apricot, and plain). One friend had the turkey with provolone sandwich on whole-grain bread. She said that the sandwich was one of the best she has ever had. The bread tasted as though it was just fresh baked. I wish my homemade salads tasted so good. The warm scones were outstanding. Service was excellent. We asked for more clotted cream, lemon curd, and jam and was graciously given more. The tea room had a few empty tables; we chatted for over 2 1/2 hours and there was no problem and no one rushing us out.. I am looking forward to returning to this excellent spot very soon. There is a municipal parking lot on the same block $.25 for 2 hours. read more
