Be careful on tipping~ a tip was added by them-& a customer. You might be tipping twice, in addition add up your receipt- I just saw a receipt which was over by at least $2, the totals didn't match. As we were discussing, it was mentioned the extra charge could have been a credit card fees, typically this is 3%, but the $ difference was higher than the 3%. I understand times are hard, but the bad taste of charging people and they don't know it until after they leave will leave a worse impression than good-food. Since moving to Houston I've been on the hunt for some good wings! If you ever been to Chicago you've heard of Harold's. So when I was looking up wing places this popped up and I wanted to see if it was anything like the Harold's back in Chicago. It was early afternoon when I got there so not too many people. I was in between ordering just the wings and ultimately decided on the wing and shrimp dinner. There's a sign that says at least 25 minutes for wings so I knew it would be a little wait. Got my food in about 35 minutes and I was slightly disappointed when I opened my bag. I asked for lemon pepper and they didn't put any. For as long as I waited I expected my fries to be piping hot and crispy and they were lukewarm and soft. The wings looked like they were refried in old grease and again lukewarm. For as long as I waited and the wings weren't even fresh was again disappointing to say the least. The shrimp were ok but again lukewarm. The mild sauce as well wasn't the best either. The food was ok. I had the two piece fish which had no seasoning. The service was poor the waitresses did not have any training on waiting on tables. The manager had no tact whatsoever to tell the customers if they didn't like the service to hit the door. She stated she was short staffed and do not rush them at the bar. I ordered Two Chicken Dinners which the menu showed included bread, fries and cole slaw (particularly wanted the cole slaw). I was disappointed when I got home and discovered NO COLE SLAW so I returned to tell them the FORGOT the cole slaw. I ordered dark meat chicken and chicken livers from Harolds online, and my daughter went to pick it up. When she got there, there was a long line of people waiting to order. She stood in the line and when she got to the counter, the lady behind the counter was not aware of the order that had been placed. She said she'd look into it but didn't come back to it for some time. Instead she proceeded to take other people's orders and those folks got their chicken while my daughter waited. After 20 minutes or more, the line was empty, and my daughter asked again about the order. The woman still didn't know about it - she had never actually checked on it, apparently - and had to do research to find it. A few minutes later, she said she found the order and that it would get made. Again, people came in, ordered chicken, and received it before my daughter who was waiting for an order I had placed online. All told, it was over an hour - maybe closer to 90 minutes - between the time I placed the order and the time it was picked up. By the time she brought it home (we live less than two miles away) it was already cold, and the dark meat chicken was - as my kids put it - "mid". (That's "mediocre" for us Gen Xers and older.) The chicken livers - though not hot - actually were pretty good, so I'd give this place another try. Leaving Walmart and hunger hit like a Mac truck. Right in the front of Walmart next to Ace check cashing is Harold's. Upon entry the place wasn't busy at all, most people order then wait I. The car due to the 20-30 min wait. I opted for the 1/2 chicken white ($16) with sauce on the side. After 20 min my food was ready and I headed home to try it out. The food comes in a tray inside of a bag , and here's a tip , make sure to open your bag to let the steam out otherwise the chicken will get soggy. With my mouth watering, I ordered a 8 wing dinner (wet) which comes with fries and coleslaw (never received), gizzards (wet), pizza puff (a flakier hot pocket), fried green tomatoes, and strawberry and honey biscuits. I should've listened to an older lady in line when she said she get her sauce on the side...you live and learn! Waited about 15 minutes for the food, which comes out hot and another 15 minutes to drive home and eat. Being that their infamous sauce (which tastes like a mixture of sweet and sour sauce from a Chinese place with ketchup to me) was on everything, by the time I made it home EVERYTHING was soggy! Maybe that's apart of the effect, but after awhile I really just wanted something crunchy. I really wanted to like Harold's, but I was so burnt from their sauce that it literally left a bad taste in my mouth. My mom went to Harold's day before yesterday and ordered chicken liver & an 8 count chicken. The 8 count was $22 and change and did not come w a side. My mom waited for the chicken liver which they cook fresh.. needless to say the chicken liver was burnt. She was told and was assured with the 8 count she could get 2 breasts, 2 wings, 2 thighs & 2 legs. She ended up w 3 thighs, 2 wings, 1 breast, & 2 legs. Harold's, you just flat need to do better! Came in here for a late lunch / early dinner for the first time. Nice guy came up from the back after I ordered and asked if I had tried Chicago style chicken before. I haven't, so he kindly gave me a little basket of fries with the sauce on top. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, it's tangy & spicy but thinner than most dipping sauces. To me, it's not the fact that the mistake was made, it's how you respond to it. Being from the South Side of Chicago, I know how great Harold's food is along with being time consuming to cook. But I'm patient for a small piece of my hometown food. I went in on a Thursday and placed my order but I was disappointed. I was told 20 min (but I really knew 30 lol), but was there for 50 min until my food was ready. Also, I was not feeling my best afterwards. I called the next day and spoke to Roy (manager) and explained what happened and how I was disappointed in the turnout of my food. I not only ordered for my family, but I ordered from friends that came in town to visit and missed Harold's as well. He immediately gave me his info and told me when he would be there to correct my order. Upon my return, Roy explained the issue, TOOK ACCOUNTABILITY, and replaced my entire order. The pleasantries and respect he showed me as a customer was impressive and appreciated. When I got my order, took it home and took my first bite, it brought me back to the Harold's on 87th street and gave me all the feeling that I needed. I understand as a customer that situations may not always come out perfect the first time, but the willingness and understanding to correct the issue and maintain customer loyalty is what I'm really appreciative for. The flavor was decent but I expected more. The coleslaw was better than the chicken. For the high price for a meal I expected to have at least a regular size type of coleslaw and for the chicken to really hit. I had no idea it was a tiny container almost like a condiment of tarter sauce. I'm giving 3 star instead of 2 because I didn't have bad service and the atmosphere inside is like a cool hangout with good music. She also told me when to come back for "Soul Food" day. She's a Chicago expat so it was nice to have a bit of Harold's Chicago history while waiting for my food. The location is small on the inside. It was a to go order, Red was the name on top of my receipt. She was extremely rude. It was time to get my food after arriving at 2:15 (it's now 2:54), I advise I'm going to the restroom, Red and another young lady stranding, while Red continue to say nah ya order up, the other young proceeds to say. You talking bout going to the restroom nahhh get your food. What are you kidding ? Customer service is trashhhhhh. Dang Black people we can do better.
