Incredible hole in the wall gyro restaurant. This is some of the best gyro I've had in the city and I'm so happy to find out it's near where I live. The gyro is cooked and flavored so well. Usually French fries are underwhelming at gyro restaurants for me but here they're amazing. I love that they have the skin on and they're so crispy!

    Gyro with fries

First off, idk why o wanted a gyro for dinner but I did. Secondly, the only other gyro I've eaten is at the mall. Third of all, I had some hesitation to pick gyros for dinner. BUT this place is awesome. Price is fair, I got the gyro plate with a salad and fries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is very clean![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the service is top notch. Very friendly. The menu isn't very big, but it has what you need. Wife got the chicken gyro, it was amazing. The side salad was great. The fries needed some salt, which I added at the table, but fried well. I will absolutely come back. This was the perfect dinner. Filling but not greasy. The salad added a side of tang to add some dimension. It just hit the spot. My kid was loving the hummus too.

First time visitor here. This food was amazing. I will most definitely be back. I tried out a couple bites in the car and before I knew it I was eating a little of everything before I got home. Can't wait to go back!!!!

I have been coming over to this place for my gyros since I was a kid. Every single time I go the food is consistently good. Never had a problem with my order. I have tried other gyros but this one is the best gyros I have ever had. The fries are hand cut and come out hot and crispy. The gyro plate comes with the gyro, fries or a salad and a drink. Very reasonable prices considering the portion of food that you get. It is a mom and pop restaurant and the owner interacts with his customers. 10/10 I recommend. I will definitely be back!

If you're looking for a quick bite this place is where you need to visit if you're wanting to eat something different than the local fast food in this area!! People are friendly restaurant is cozy and quiet. I eat lunch here and This Old House is playing on the television in the corner. The menu is easy to read food is always hot and you get a bottled drink with the special. Today In the photos I ordered a lamb gyro with salad and added dolmades. I'm never disappointed with the food here..

This is a small mom n pop Mediterranean café located very near to my neighborhood. I have had food from them before mostly carry-out, but never got a chance to leave them a review. This last visit, I ordered a Gyro plate which came with french fries and a small side salad. The sandwich was pretty good. It had a generous portion of meat and came with all the fixings in the sandwich. The French fries were hot and crispy and golden brown and a great compliment to the sandwich. The salad was also good. It just had too much dressing drenched in it. In the past, I have also ordered their Philly cheesesteak sandwich, which is also very good and comes with a handful of fries. I will visit them soon again.

This gives me a hole in the wall feeling with limited decor and just straight to the point food. The gyro sandwich is just meat, tomatoes, onions, & sauce. Nothing else if that's what you want. Eating just that will most likely still make you hungry, although you can go with the combo which includes fries and a drink.

    Greek salad, awesome!

Super great tasting food. Mom and pop's usually are! Chicken shawarma was very tasty. I ordered their chicken shawarma plate but basically received the chicken shawarma gyro with fries and a greek salad. Kind of disappointed simply because I was charged over $10 for this plate. I would recommend coming solely if you want a gyro. Fries are good! Everything with the taste of their food was spot on, except for the actual order that I paid for. Thus, I give this rating a 4 stars.

Established back in 1977, this Greek café has grown from a humble walk‑up window into a full‑fledged neighborhood institution, beloved for its hearty Mediterranean comfort food and lively, come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. The Montrose location stays bustling from lunch through late night, drawing in everyone from families to night‑owls to longtime regulars who've been coming here for decades. What keeps people returning is simple: the food hits. Diners consistently praise the authentic Greek flavors, especially the gyro plates -- a blend of beef and lamb shaved from the spit, tucked into warm, fresh pita, and finished with cool, garlicky tzatziki. Portions are generous without being sloppy, and the pricing stays reasonable, making it one of the best value spots in the neighborhood. Your gyro arrives stacked, your fries come hot, and your plate feels like it was built by someone who actually wants you to leave full. The menu is huge, but the classics shine brightest. The Greek salad is crisp and refreshing, loaded with feta, olives, tomatoes, and their famous dressing. Service here is fast, friendly, and efficient -- the kind of counter‑style operation where the staff keeps things moving without losing the warmth that makes the place feel welcoming. Guests frequently mention how upbeat and helpful the team is, even during rush hours. The vibe is lively but never chaotic: families grabbing dinner, couples sharing mezze plates, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. It's casual, energetic, and unmistakably Montrose. One thing that sets Niko Niko's apart is its deep Houston history. The Fetokakis family has run the restaurant for nearly half a century, maintaining a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality that helped the café earn multiple Houston Press awards over the years -- from Best Pork Chops to Best Family‑Owned Restaurant. Even as the city has changed around it, Niko Niko's has stayed true to its roots: hearty food, Greek hospitality, and a community‑driven spirit. Whether you're grabbing a quick gyro, sitting down for a full spread, or stopping by for dessert after a night out, Niko Niko's delivers exactly what a neighborhood staple should: great food, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the experience feels like Houston -- diverse, warm, and full of character. If you're in Montrose and craving Greek comfort done right, this spot remains one of the city's most reliable pleasures.

We have our go to order: hot green tea with honey. Idk why I love it so much but I swear it just hits different here. Maybe it's the cute little pot they serve it in. For food, we usually start with an appetizer and split the mixed shawarma plate. This last time we shared a Greek salad as an appetizer. Fresh and delicious as always. One of our sides was the baba ghanoush, which was incredible. Dont get me started on the pita it comes with....Warm, soft, and fresh. It takes everything in me not to demolish the whole basket. For our other side, we always get the potatoes. They're perfectly seasoned with a slight sweetness and a little kick. Hands down my favorite side dish here! The portions are generous too. For me and my boyfriend (who can definitely eat), splitting this is always enough to fill us up. I also have to shout out the service because it's consistently great. Even when it's packed and there's just one waiter, everything flows smoothly. Safe to say we'll keep coming back!
