All I needed was a tone and root smudge for my BLONDE hair. I went to this salon to see Hannah, who I've seen multiple times before. This stylist used a toner that was way too dark for my hair, which stained my blonde hair and turned it DARK brown. As you can see from the photos, this wasn't even remotely close to what I asked for. She was unable to remove the dark pigment after using a remover twice, and promising that my hair would return to how it was before. Now I'm stuck with dark brown hair with a weird orange undertone that's turning more orange by the day. Extremely disappointed by this experience. I've never been this unhappy with my hair, and I can't even look at myself in the mirror. The stylist said she would reach out to me regarding scheduling another appointment for a correction, but she never did. Hopefully others don't have a similar experience. read more

Don't walk - RUN to get yourself an appointment with Dakota. I cannot believe my luck but I was able to book an appointment with them almost at the last minute and oh my god was it amazing! I came in with a total disaster of a color. And I mean just all around awful (done in LA). I was hoping to have it fixed but Dakota was able to transform it completely! my hair has depth and dimension now all the while looking brighter and being lower maintenance. Harris Harper was my first choice in Portland after I'd moved in here because of their great reviews. My experience could not be more different. I went there for a cut and all-over color. My naturally curly and thick hair prone to being frizzy did not take well to a razor cut. My curls lost their bounce and became frizzier for months to come until I sought help from another hairdresser from another salon. The color was a complete disaster. My roots did not take color well which I realize the following day in a natural light. My remaining hair was very dark (although I specifically stated I want medium-light brown color) while my roots were a mixture of brassy and grey color. As a result my hair looked unsightly and worse than before. I contacted the hairdresser a few times and when I heard nothing I also contacted the salon. No reply, dead silence. That is the most disappointing bit. Everybody makes mistakes and I would not mind if they owned up to it and offered me a solution. However their customer service was the worst I've ever experienced and I regularly visit hair salons for 20 years now. Eventually I found a different salon where they fixed my cut that returned my curls their previous bounce and they got the color right. I won't be coming back to Harris Harper. Ingrid read more

I've been going to Zach for years, and always love what he does with my hair. I have super fine, mostly straight hair - but a lot of it. Because of this, if it's not styled correctly it can be heavy and limp. Zach's done wonders with it from long to short styles, and everything in between. What can I say about this salon, this space, these stylists? I've never been someone who consistently has a stylist or even gets regular haircuts but then I met Zach, of Harris Harper and felt comfortable and understood. Every cut and/or color I get with Zach is effortless and stunning, I leave feeling bright and full and heard. Because let's be honest, a stylist like the ones at Harris Harper listen and really hear you. I sometimes throw curve balls at Zach, like "Hey, can we do cotton candy pink next week?" and he hears me and makes it happen, even better than my imagination (or Instagram) could believe. The stylists here are excellent, every client in there feels like a fresh transformation. I always see people leaving with huge grins on their faces. The location (on SW 12th and Yamhill) is right next to the 405 and 84, just outside of the busy downtown. Parking was easy, there's a few lots nearby and plenty of metered street parking. There's also an Indian food cart right out front if you get hungry before or after your appointment. Scheduling with Harris Harper is also SO EASY with their website. I'll admit that my schedule is the most difficult to work with but I always find a time that works with my chaotic lifestyle. The space itself is filled with natural light and plants in all the right spots. They have organic coffee and tea selections with local honey and raw sugars, even the Keurig pods are compostable! It is thoughtfully done, every detail was considered. I found her through yelp at National Beauty and had been a very happy customer ( see my review for her at National Beauty yelp page). She recently opened up her new salon at Yamhill and I followed her there. Usually I get caramel highlights on my dark hair once a year. That caramel color is not using bleach. And it had hold up pretty well after frequent wash( read, every alternate day) for an year. Since I was so picky abt putting chemicals on my hair and damaging it, I always opted for that safe caramel color that does minimal change to any hair. However I always craved for a blue highlight on my hair but didn't want to bleach it. So I kept going back and forth thinking do I color it blue or keep playing safe like I always did. after talking to Julie this time, I was sure that if I ever want blue on my hair, bleach was the only way. Julie referred me to Zach who is her partner and does the fashion colors. After several txt msg with Zach to get clarification on the maintenance of the blue color and the risk of getting the exact blue I was looking for, I finally made up my mind to get it done! It's really difficult and frustrating to find the right hair stylist as it is, especially one who will understand what you want to do, but also make you feel like your not weird for asking extra questions or for showing them pictures of what you are wanting to achieve! Although I didn't directly work with her for any color changes, I came to her for extensions instead! And thank god I did! She truly gave me my dream hair!! I wanted fullness more than anything due to my hair being damaged from previous color changes, my own hair was looking less full/thick and it really made me miss my long thick hair before I did some damage to it :-( anyway she is a life savor because she gave me the best advice and helped me choose the right type of extensions to suit what I wanted and was looking for!! I wanted low maintenance so tape ins were out for me so she recommended the beaded weft style! This method ended up being exactly what I needed and in my price range. Until my own hair grows back and gets longer I will continue this extension method because it looks so natural and I haven't had any issues with the care of it or the hair itself! I'm so impressed!! Extensions are such a great way to go if your hating the way your hair looks in the mean time and while you wait for your own hair to grow back!! It truly makes such a huge difference! If your ever considering getting extensions Savanna is definitely the person to go to! I'm so thankful I came to her, she's truly the best and I couldn't recommend her more! While I was waiting, I was offered to help myself to the cute coffee and tea bar, with chocolates. Before I found Zach, I never got regular haircuts, always bounced between stylists, and was never satisfied with my look. Zach has been a godsend and is the only person I've trusted with my hair for over a year now! I have thick, wavy, dense, textured auburn-red hair with multiple cowlicks, so it's tricky to work with. Unlike every other stylist I've been to, he consistently achieves the exact look I want, not some half-baked version of what I had in mind. While sitting in the chair, it's obvious that he's listening--he doesn't interrupt, he asks clarifying questions, and he explains the rhyme and reason to everything he plans to do to achieve the hair of your dreams. Can't put your finger on exactly what you want to do with your hair? He's adept at collaboration and will work with you to figure it out! I always leave feeling more confident, beautiful, AND knowledgeable about my own hair than when I walked in. I am so, so disappointed in the hair color I got here. I have searched and searched for someone who can do a great job with platinum hair. Savanna had great pictures so I booked her. Well, while doing my hair she suggest I get a "root shadow" that she explained was a great way to allow platinum to grow out without looking too bad with a stark contrast at my roots. I decided to try it and as soon as I saw my hair I was immediately disappointed. Essentially the hair right at my roots was this dull blonde rather than platinum that has now turned into this brassy/orange color. The exact color that platinum blondes pay good money to avoid. I just got my hair done and I feel like I immediately need to get it redone. Again, the word to describe my visit is disappointing. I will not be back. read more
