I love that the seating in the bar area is all fair game for walk up (not just the bar top)! The best value on the menu are the filet sliders! Came here for a special occasion celebration on a Saturday evening. Luckily I made reservations at least two weeks in advance and you definitely need to make reservations because the place is packed. It is located in a strip mall, which is a little misleading, and there is lots of parking however at peak times parking is scarce. This is my first visit as I know there is another location downtown I will see the service was top notch as expected. I will say that I am surprised that they do not clean off the table of crumbs in between courses, considering the price point. I would expect that. The food quality overall is incredible. The portions are fair if not on the generous side. And they were kind to bring out a celebratory and complementary crème brûlée. I would definitely come back here again as several people around us were also celebrating their special occasion This is definitely classic American steakhouse with a couple modern twist. It was great that they could customize the calamari to tentacles only as well. I ordered the alfredo and was worried that it was cooked in meat broth due to the flavor since I'm vegetarian/vegan. I asked my waiter to check and he assured me that it wasn't. We celebrated our daughter's 24th wedding anniversary this evening. We had Calamari, bacon-side appetizers, Two Shareable sides: mushrooms and grilled asparagus and we split the prime rib meatloaf. The meatloaf & gravy was Flavorful and tender. The best was the bacon appetizer with the mushrooms and asparagus- we could have made a meal out of just those! Came here with some friends for the Miracle on 82nd Street Pop-Up and it was so cute! So many cute Christmas decorations and I appreciated that there was plenty of seating. Full transparency, we went here for the Christmas pop up bar, which is only Thursday-Sunday, and we went on Monday. So we missed that but decided to stay for some drinks and light food. We decided on the signature St Elmos spicy shrimp cocktail and meatballs for appetizers. The meatballs were delicious and a good big portions for only three meatballs. The shrimp cocktail was SPICY and I do not mean regular spicy they were spicy spicy! I had to spit my first one out because I wasn't prepared. When I got past that, they were good. You also get some DELICIOUS bread served as an appetizer. For our "main" portion we decided on broccolini and steakhouse Mac and cheese, both were delicious and a good amount food as well. My cocktails were a signature vanilla cherry mule and a signature manhattan.The mule was delicious but the manhattan tasted like a lot of bitters, so that wasn't my preference. If you've been around Indianapolis for awhile, you know Harry & Izzy's consistently provides good food and service, which leads to long time fans and customers. While I feel like their menu leans traditional and could be more adventurous, I know the food I order will be exquisitely cooked and top of the line every time. I highly recommend the Sixfigure Salary cocktail at their Northside location which truly may have been one of my favorite cocktails ever. It featured bourbon, fig liqueur, lemon, and bitters to create a well balanced dream of a drink. For those unsure about which location to visit, this Northside location features easy parking and is located next to the Fashion Mall and many high end shops. I generally enjoy Harry and Izzy's, I'm not hesitant to say, I consider it to be one of my favorite places to dine for lunch or dinner. While the food was excellent, the service was not. I was warmly welcomed upon entry and seated within minutes of arrival. That is where it takes a turn. Our server never introduced herself by name, she was courteous, but brisk. We ordered the meatball appetizer, which was amazing. Shortly thereafter, she pressed us on several occasions to place our food order. We ordered our menu items , they arrived and we never saw her again until it was time to pay the bill. She was clearing the table with a handful of dirty dishes and offered to box my leftovers, I politely declined. You want to mix my leftovers with the same hands you're using to clear tables of used dishes, no ma'am. No thanks. We never got refills of drinks or water. I was floored, dare I say, flummoxed. The ambiance of the restaurant was typical of a steak house with a large glass window where their stock of wines sat for everyone to view. Shrimp cocktail: if you don't like horse raddish and and a burn in the nose be cautious how much sauce you leave on your shrimp. I've been coming here for years and have noticed a decline in service and quality of food. We were greeted and seated on the second level. This area is freezing cold, they have lots of fans and I recommend seating on the first level if you tend to run cooler. Our server seemed preoccupied most of the evening. She took our drink order and took ten minutes to take our appetizers. Not pictured the shrimp cocktail which were delicious. Extremely spicy I don't know if they were always this hot but it took my breath away. My husband and I both enjoyed the French onion soup as well. My family and I are huge fans of the Huse Culinary Group chain of restaurants, but after eating at almost all of them, we still love Harry and Izzy's the most. A hallmark of Indianapolis, Harry and Izzy's is known for their steaks, sandwiches, and above all, their iconic St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail. With gluten-free and vegetarian options on the menu, there is something for everyone to enjoy here. We arrived an hour before our 6:15 PM reservation, and the hostesses accommodated for us, seating us on the heated patio. The patio was a great place to enjoy each other's company without having to worry about talking over the music or other patrons. We ordered the guacamole for an appetizer, and for not being from an authentic Mexican restaurant, it was absolutely delicious and surpassed my expectations. There were pieces of fresh avocado mixed throughout, giving the guacamole a unique texture. Unfortunately, the chips that accompanied the guacamole were a little stale. Of course, no trip to a Huse Culinary is complete without an order of the slab bacon! Every thick, flavorful piece of applewood smoked bacon was slathered in a glaze and adorned with crystallized maple syrup. It was a hit with our whole table! For dinner, I tried the radiatori pasta with lemon chicken. It was a little different than what I was expecting, but delicious nonetheless. Three people in my party ordered the French Dip sandwich, and the tender meat beautifully complimented the au jus and the soft roll. Horseradish tends to be a controversial food amongst diners, but I highly recommend keeping the horseradish on the sandwich, as it really adds to the dish. The French Dip is traditionally served with fries, but my family members prefer the cafeteria chips (they taste delicious dipped in the au jus!) We were tempted by the dessert menu, especially the brownie sundae, but we were too full to eat another bite after an exquisite dinner! Finally, I want to close this review by giving a shoutout to our waiter, LJ. He was the whole package--attentive, informative, polite, and friendly.
