So when you place your order and it's repeated back to you and when you get home and find that your broiled seafood dinner has suddenly turned into a a triple grilled cheese sandwich it's a little disappointing. Mistakes happen. After a quick call back to Harry Os I told them about the wrong item in my order. I reordered the broiled seafood dinner and offered to bring the grilled cheese back. I was told to do whatever I want with it. So when I arrived back to the restaurant to get my original order I was instructed to put my credit card in and pay for it again. I understand that a grilled cheese sandwich is cheaper than the broiled seafood dinner. So I thought I was just going to pay the balance. I was a little bit surprised when they charged me full price for the seafood. I asked him why I was being charged full price for it and they acted like I ordered the cheese sandwich. How could you mistake broiled seafood dinner from a grilled cheese sandwich? And how about the rice pilaf and clam chowder that arrived with the first pickup order and comes with the seafood dinner. Let see. Clam chowder and grilled cheese sandwich, yummy not. Here's my issue. I was offered a piece of pie when I returned and did not accept it. I also told them to keep the rice pilaf as I already had it. A simple we're sorry would have made me happy. But none of that was going to happen. I called the restaurant on the way back home on my second trip and talked with someone who said they were the owner. She also brought up that the order was repeated to me. It was I assured her and it was the correct order. So she offered to give me a credit for the grilled cheese and a half hearted apology. In conclusion: After getting food from this restaurant for 15 years or more without incident I finally understand what other customers have said about the employees. They can keep my grilled cheese sandwich refund and put it towards customer service classes. I'm done, won't see me again. I will share this incident with my friends. Guaranteed! read more

Wnet there at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 27th, 2022. 11 people in the lobby, several open tables. As we stood there we were told by other customers that the delay was "not enough staff". THe girl at the counter (young) said nothing. She didn't advise wait times, she just stood at the register. Seems that the take out orders are getting all the attention. We eat at Harry O's at least once a week and are now looking for a new place. We stood in the lobby for about 10 minutes and then just left. I read some of the otherratings ans see that customer service is a NIGHTMARE and it appears that they don't care. Skip the hassle and go elsewhere. read more

me and some friends went here yesterday and there was pizza on the menu. when we ordered the pizza the worker said they didnt have pizza. i dont appreciate that as me and my friends were super excited for that pizza because the picture looked delicious. if it wasn't available why was it on the menu? and if there wasnt any made they could have just said that. if it was too late in the day they could have just said that. I have gone to this place a ton of times, and honestly the only reason I go back is because the food is cheap and decent. However, if you want good service, or at least any service, I don't recommend. EVERY time I come, it takes the servers at least 10 minutes to get to our table, even when there are no other tables in the restaurant. Our server never comes back to the table after they give us our food. We never get refills. Okay, so I'm not sure what is up with the bad reviews. My family has frequented this restaurant for at least five years, and we have never had a bad experience. If you read my other reviews, I never hold back. If I have a bad experience, I say so. I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. I have visited for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don't know why I've never written a review before. I thought I had, but I guess not. The service at Harry O's has always been prompt, friendly, and professional. The food arrives in a timely manner, and it is hot and fresh. My family visited today for Mother's Day. My aunt and I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken. She ordered the baked potato, and I had the mashed. We were both very happy with our entrees. My dad ordered the stuffed shrimp, which I have also had, and he said they were delicious. The salads were fresh, the lemon rice soup was great, and the coconut cream pie was fantastic! The kids meals are reasonable priced, and the portions are large. My kids are average eaters, and they received enough food for two meals! My three year old had the mac and cheese, which was homemade and not Kraft. That is an upgrade since most restaurants have resorted to Kraft on their kids' menus. My seven year old ordered the spaghetti, and he loved it! Harry O's does not claim to be anything but a nice, family style restaurant. The decor is tasteful, the facilities are clean, and the food is well priced. If you keep your expectations reasonable, you will not be disappointed! If you're expecting a five-star, gourmet experience, then you should probably go to that type of restaurant. read more

Harry O's family restaurant has long been home to delicious American breakfast and brunch. With cheap meals, this diner made dinner for a family of three easily affordable. Since this was our first time here, we all decided it was best to get different platters and try each others. The waitress did a great job of making us feel like we were at home with a warm smile and easy-going personality. While waiting for the food to come out we took the time to take in the scenery. The outside is very misleading and doesn't do the interior any justice. In contrast to the plain outside, the inside decor was well put. The antique images displayed along the walls gave the place a sort of aged feel accented with an overall elegant lighting. Another pleasant surprise came our way as our food was placed before us in a timely fashion. With all the food now laid out in front of us, there was only one thing left to do: dig in. We all took out turns jabbing our knives and forks into the pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, first. The pork chop was perfectly cooked with simple seasonings, that had a dipping sauce on the side, to truly bring out the flavors. As for the mashed potatoes and gravy, the seasonings were just not there. Next, was the chicken, where the finished product was juicy and simple. This platter also came with a delightful dipping sauce. Finally, the tuna melt, which was agreed on the best dish at the table, hands down. It was fresh, light, and clearly lived up to its name "melt." The fries served with each dish were addicting, with just the right amount of salt, as well as the peppermint ice cream later served as dessert. I remember how this place used to look before the fire. It looks awesome now! I think the food was better years ago but I was also younger. I really like coming here for brunch. Omelettes or pancakes are my usual choices. As for lunch I've only had their Italian beef and their chicken strips which were ok, but nothing to travel long distances for. read more

I actually live in Cedar Lake. Although I don't go to Harry O's often, I have to say Jimmy (the "Greek" owner) makes some of the best ribs I have ever eaten. They need to enter in a rib cook-off contest. The entire place is decorated in Cedar Lake History. When the rest.burned down they rebuilt and are showing the history from the turn of the century, so not to forget were we all come from! Try the ribs. If youhaven't figured it out... I was very much not.impressed, especially having had dinner at George's the night before and it beong amazingly delicious. My husband ordered the gyros. The meat was clearly sliced and frozen. The sauce was bland, not.garlicky at all. The pita was stale. I ordered skirt steak, Greek style. That usually means it is seasoned with pepper, oregano and basil and lemon is squirted on top. I ordered it med rare and.got it closer to the medium doneness than rare, but still decent. The Greek part however was just a dressing on.the side to put on the steak. It was cold and looked like bottled dressing, not even something mixed in house. I didn't use it. It was too vinegar-y. My dad had ordered rotisserie chicken, but knowing how they make them in restaurants (i.e., ahead of time then reheated in a fashion so as not to dry it out), he asked if they would be able to put the Greek seasoning on it before putting it in the oven to roast through. He was a chef at a Greek family restaurant for a long time (oh and he is Greek) and it's not like he is asking for something completely off the wall (did I mention I went to culinary school myself?). The server was completely confused and went to go ask, no biggie, right? Well she came back and not only said that it wasn't possible to do that, she said that the cooks in the back would have no odea how to even do it. Rudely, I might add. It turned out that their "Greek style" dressing could have easily been put over the chicken before popping it in the oven, but hey, it truly wasn't possible. I should also mention, the garlic dressing was thicker than heavy mayo and tasted sour. Their ranch was also sour. The French onion soup, while not salty at all, had dry grated cheese on top and chunks of soggy croutons in the soup, not served on top. French onion should have croutons, not soggy bread. After our mediocre dinner, we were also served dessert. I was excited to learn they had peppermint ice cream, but when I got it, it was barely a half scoop, already nearly melted in a warm dish. After an interminable wait another waitress asked if we had been waited on and when we said no, she asked a waiter to take our drink order. Then mysteriously our waitress appeared from no where and immediately requested our food order. Our cocktails and soup were served at the same time. My husband and I have been going to Harry O's for years. We went today and the prices have increased drastically! My husband got a dinner that is suppose to come with soup or salad, potato, and dessert. When he asked the server for the potato she said it didn't come with one. When he showed it to her she said oh ok, I'm not going to argue with you I will get you one. We waited about 30 minutes for the food and guess what no potato. She had to go back and get one. At the end of dinner she gave us our check and no mention of dessert. So when we asked she said you had to get soup and salad to get dessert. That's when we informed the waitress and the hostess we would no longer be customers there. The waitress said a lot of people are saying that. We looked at the menu on the way out and we were suppose to get a dessert...What a joke!!! If you are thinking of going there, think again and don't bother.
