I would LOVE to be a regular at Harry's. I love the idea of it. The delicious sliders, half off in afternoons. The boozy milkshakes, loaded with syrup and Oreo crumble. It's a pretty good location right on the Main Street, near the RISD museum and across the river to downtown. But alas, I just *can't* be a regular. It's not a matter of food or affordability, but hygiene. Every time I'm at Harry's, the lack of hygiene slaps me in the face. Sometimes literally: a fly has careened right into my face on several occasions. Waitresses don't bat an eye at the sometimes massive flies looping throughout the building. They're used to it. Then there's the "night lights"... I live in an old building in providence, so I know exactly what those seemingly innocent things are. I don't want to see reminders that there's a rodent problem in a restaurant. I haven't seen any mice around, but I know a mouse repellant when I see one. And I see them far too often. The great food and fun atmosphere is undermined by sticky tables, menus, and chairs, a grating fly problem, and the implication of rodents. Harry's could be amazing. It just needs one hell of an overhaul -- I think it would be absolutely worth it. Otherwise, I'll pop in every couple of months, when I'm feeling the need for sliders and shakes, but never enough to be a regular. read more

So good we ate here twice in the 5 days we were here. Service very friendly on the first night, the second night it was under par. The first night everything was perfect start to finish. The second time we happen to get a waitstaff that was her 1st day, so we have to cut some slack. We had to ask for refills on water and drinks, and this time the food took forever. I asked for ranch dip when she handed me the fried jalapeño appetizer unfortunately she did not come and check on us to bring it or refill our drinks or water and by the time I was able to catch the other waitresses attention to ask for it, then ours came and said she thought we wanted the ranch with our hamburger - but still did not bring it only shared her explanation. At that point, I had only crumbs of cold fried jalapeños left, - misunderstanding. We had the chili hamburger, double meat burger, bacon cheese burger, chili cheese fries and Oreo cookie shake while there during our 2 visits. No complaints except one- they do not have tomatoes and I usually ask for an extra tomato so I was a little bummed but I still came back a second time. Giving a 4 stars rating because they don't have tomatoes at a hamburger joint and a limited selection with NO substitutions even printed on the menu which Further limits you. If it had been our first time here on the second visit I would have had to give 3 stars because the service was so bad but given the circumstances we are going to ignore the service on this review. Love Harry's, but there's a specific bartender that's the reason this 4-star rating isn't 5-star. I've been to this Harry's probably 20+ times in the past few years. Every time I sit at the bar when I get food. It's a great atmosphere, with good conversation, good games on TV if you're into that, great beer selection and great burgers and fries (Fungus Among Us Burger and Salt and Pepper fries are my go to). As much of a staple as it's been, there's one bartender I've really grown to dislike. She's a little older and has been there a while and clearly dislikes her job. She spends most of her time off in a corner gossiping. She gives attitude for most requests, hardly ever smiles, and takes forever to do most things. It's a shame. I love this place, and I hate being negative on here, but it's a factor. 4/17 Update - Not sure if something was said, but last few times she's been much better. Okay. We heard that these burgers were good but did not expect it to be THIS good. Incredible flavours, melting cheese, crisp toppings and the most perfect bun. You want to know what perfect sliders are? Go here! We ordered the cheese one and my friend got the one with bacon and even though we were full, ended up ordering another round!! So juciy, charred and mouth-watering! The drinks (cider and spiked milkshake) were also great. A special thank you to the girl serving upstairs on July 1 at around 8:30 pm! Reliably delicious. The food is outstanding and the service is great. I love sitting at the bar, there is always a great crowd and the bartenders are super friendly and attentive. The burgers and sandwiches are really good, and the fries are also delicious. They have some fun drinks too. I do wish they would get a good rosè on the menu, that's my only criticism! Harry's is a perfect example of the wonderful food selection in Providence. It is a hole-in-the-wall bar and restaurant with two floors and lots of personality in their decor and service. The sliders are half off everyday between 3-5PM (with the purchase of a beverage). The vibrant restaurants and juicy sliders are such a pick-me-up during a long week. My one complaint is that waiting for food always seems to take a while. It seems that the kitchen isn't very big and there are few people working to prepare the food. It might not be great to come in for a quick bite, but if you plan on staying and hanging out for a bit, it's very fun! Try their alcoholic milkshakes too! read more

Reasonably priced food with lots to drink. With no Five Guys nearby, I decided to give Harry's a shot. The pictures of the burgers looked pretty tasty, so why not? The burgers are smaller in size, somewhere between a slider and a regular burger. You have the option of getting to normal two burgers or getting a third. Started the meal with chili cheese nachos. We quickly realized that we didn't receive any utensils or plates so, eating these were a bit of a challenge. This was probably the first time where I had more chips than toppings leftover. The toppings were pretty sparing and we had to make sure we had a a bean or two to put on the extra chips. Next up, the Mother of All Burgers (M.O.A.B). Have to say, very greasy. The burger itself was juicy and well seasoned but after finishing the first, the second had been sitting in its oil and juices making the buns rather soggy. Since it's a smaller bun, it made it a lot harder to eat. Felt kind of gross after finishing my food. Also, got the salt and pepper fries- nothing special, literally fries with some extra pepper sprinkled on top. As for drinks, they have a huge selection of beers. Harry's has such potential to be something worthy of "great." However, the service was so deplorable that I have to knock what would be a four-star review down to three. This teensy shoebox of a chic burger joint is adorable, and has all the makings of a hit: great food, fun interior, a stellar beer list, open late and a perched on a street which makes for a fantastic location. However, waiting over a half an hour for some burgers made me nuts... especially since the place was near empty and it was after 9:30 on a Monday night. Also, immediately upon arriving and being seated we ordered water. We got the water after the food arrived, and seeing as I was parched (so what if I ate a whole bag of salty popcorn at the movie I saw before dinner?), this was a huge strike against our waitress. Based on the burgers alone, I'm sure I'll be back. The Hus had some seriously succulent cheese burger sliders, and I partook of the Buffalo chicken sandwich sliders. We shared the salt 'n' peppa fries, and they did not disappoint, kids - nary a fry was left astray. Also, I love that they're open late in a town notoriously known for before 10 pm shut-downs. The sliders are juicy deliciousness. I recommend the MOAB (Mother of All Burgers): cheese, bacon, mushrooms, shredded lettuce, pile of onion strings. That's the good news. But not good enough to bring me back to Harry's. The bad just kept coming, to the point I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to leap around the corner and tell me I'd been "Punk'd". We were sat in the room at the top of the stairs. Do not recommend. The late 90's hip hop and "slow jams" could be faintly heard from downstairs, but it was Sunday ABC primetime on the big screen that was the aural focal point. Icky dim lights cast shadows off the scraps and crumbs all over the grey carpeted floor: it looked like the aftermath of a 4-year-old's birthday party at Friendly's. The issues of service that followed were in part due to a sweet, woefully inexperienced waitress who just has not found her groove but mostly a clear lack of communication between kitchen/bar/servers. Get it together, people! 20 minutes in and my dining companion hadn't yet received his root beer, nor me my water I'd asked for twice, though I had a beer to work on (our server didn't know anything about the beer when asked about it so she made something up.) Girlfriend got her workout that night running laps up and down the stairs delivering messages of "we're out of _____" to the patrons, bringing the wrong stuff, complaining that the kitchen hadn't told her this or that. Finally - food. Little plastic insert gone from malt vinegar so the fries had a bath that night. A manager comes up to apologize for the crazy-long wait and does the right thing - offer us mercy chipwiches. But it's an odd favor to dish out when you then put the onus on ME to inform my server that we were made said offer so that it won't show up on my bill. (Turned out she got the message, but why even say that!) If these sliders were served out of a food truck or a lunch counter, I'd be all over it, but I'm not going to sit down and be subjected to craptastic service for an hour for a couple of burgers - that's what Friendly's is for! read more

I've been wanting to try Harry's for a good long while now. After much debate about where to go for dinner last night, my friend and I decided to finally give it a shot. We were lucky enough to find parking fairly close. Street parking on North Main can be stressful to say the least. Upon walking up to the door we saw some people seated at little tables out front and a server taking orders. When he saw us he greeted us, very friendly and opened the front door to the restaurant for us. We were given a choice of where to sit, upstairs, downstairs or outside. We chose downstairs and were led into a tiny area in the back with high tops and a view of the kitchen. Our server was super nice and offered us suggestions. We were craving milkshakes and they did not disappoint. I ordered the chocolate caramel and my friend got the vanilla caramel. Both very good, not super thick like some places which made it nice and easy to chug lol. We both ordered the bacon burgers and salt & pepper fries. Amazing. So simple but so tasty and perfectly portioned. The space is cute and the downstairs is very small. The food came out lightning fast and it was as if our server could predict our next move, showing up with waters or condiments before we could even form the thought to ask for them. Harry's was a wonderful and delicious surprise on N Main in providence. I came here with my girlfriend for one of her friend's birthday dinner. They had a reservation so the table was setup when we got there. We actually hung around the bar area for 15 minutes or so to wait for the others in the party to arrive and the staff was fine with us hanging out at the bar. The friend who booked the table actually booked a room that they have in the basement that just so happens to have a shuffleboard table. However, it did not have any tables to eat on... We were rolling 12 deep and without any tables and just little shelves to put drinks on did not workout. We asked for some tables and in a few minutes time, were than escorted to the second floor (many floors to this establishment) through a narrow stairway from the entrance, where we were seated. The upstairs dining area was smallish in size and it felt like we took up half the upstairs area. But we were all comfortably seated now. So the beer from Harry's is pretty good. They had only three beers on tap but they were fine selections. I had a Sixpoint sour wheat beer and it delish. Oh and don't forget to order the boot glass that is only 68 oz. Only draft selection can be ordered to fill the boot (obvious reasons). So make sure you like the beer! As for the burgers - actually sliders - they were excellent. I had the Fungus Among Us slider and complimented the sliders with Sloppy Harry Chili Fries. It was a pairing like white on rice. My girl ordered the Crunch Burger which they over did it with the fried onion strings. It was overflowing to the floor (maybe not that much). Overall the service was excellent since we had a large party. The food and drinks came out promptly without mess ups. When the bill came, the waiter was nice enough to offer some members of our party to immediately charge their portion so as to make the other party paying by cash easier to split. Harry's is like that really hot girlfriend that you had, whom you had to break up with because she couldn't carry a conversation, or put together a full sentence without smacking her gum. The first few dates are amazing, the beer list is spectacular, the burgers are delicious, and the sweet potato fries are to die for. She's attractive, and she'll woo you if you're not careful. Plus, she's petite, if you don't mind a little claustrophobia. As time goes by, you realize that she's of questionable morals, and your family doesn't approve. The service is painfully slow (we waited an hour for our food on a slow Sunday), and the waitresses have the personalities of White Walkers, except the White Walkers will make eye contact. Which is hard, because they're dead. With a few tweaks, this place could be amazing. I hope she calls me back when she's turned her life around. read more

I just realized a few days ago that I haven't reviewed Harry's. I really have to tell everyone on Yelp, if you live in Providence or are going to be visiting, you really need to do yourself a favor and go to Harry's. It is a mix of a gastropub and a great burger joint (what genius combo btw). You can go strictly to drink at the bar or just go for the burgers, or do what I do and mix beer and burgers. You cannot go wrong with any of the sliders on the menu, from the Bacon Cheeseburger right on down to the MOAB (Mother of all Burgers). For a side go for some sweet potato fries with the very tasty aioli or their delicious chili cheese fries. We were only in Providence for one night, and ventured here based on some Googling. The place is pretty cute inside, small, but they have a lot of beer options and the waiter was quick to recommend some. However, we placed our order, a cheeseburger and a bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. And proceeded to watch 2 other couples sit down, get their food, pay their bill AND LEAVE while we waited for our food. At that point I was mostly just curious. We watched a new table of five get their food. We ordered another round of drinks. Then our waiter asked us for our order again, said our ticket had been lost, and it would be right up. We STILL waited for quite awhile after this. Slightly longer than the average table was waiting after ordering for the first time. We watched the table of five get a second round of food delivered. We finally got ours. Their burgers come as 2 sliders. They were tasty, like classed up White Castle burgers. The fries were average. I was interested in dessert but at this point we had been waiting an hour to get burgers, and our waiter had suddenly disappeared so I couldn't order anyway. We had a race to run the next day so when we finally saw him, we asked for the bill instead. Nothing at all was comped on the bill. Now I wasn't angling for something free. I would have been just as satisfied if our burgers were truly done on the fly, like next out of the kitchen - but everyone in the room has a view of the window - and they weren't. Or perhaps a visit from a manager to apologize. Our waiter barely said anything to us after we finally got our food. I used to be a waitress and simply could not fathom how this was being handled. I'm sure this was a fluke, but at the same time, this is NOT how you deal with a mistake. We only got one meal in Providence and were seriously let down by Harry's. read more

Harry's makes a damn good slider. The M.O.B. (Mother of Burgers) is TO DIE FOR. And it's a steal to go between 3-5pm because all sliders are half off. I'm a huge bloody mary lover, so I'm obsessed with the bacon bloody. Therefore, this is my favorite place to go grab Sunday lunch. In a town chock-full of places to get a decent burger, Harry's is a standout. You can indulge your curiosity while staying noncommittal, because the menu's offerings are served as two small-ish, affordable sliders. On my most recent visit to Harry's, I didn't have a burger at all - at least, not by a carnivore's definition. I had the veggie black bean sliders, and they were amazing. I have also enjoyed their actual, Hereford hamburgers and they, too, are exceptional: fresh, juicy, melty, flavor-filled helpings of meaty goodness. Parking in this part of town is tough, to say the least--no matter the time of day, or the day of the week. Be prepared: arrive bearing quarters, lots of 'em. And wear walking shoes, because if karma is not on your side, you will have to hoof it back to the restaurant -- and, as metered parking is .25 for 12 minutes, it may cost you nearly a quarter simply to get from your car into Harry's. Once inside, the space is not efficiently laid out. Seating is at a premium; both times I've eaten here, we've opted to take a seat at the bar, rather than wait for table service. Each time, the bartender has been friendly and accommodating, engaging us in friendly conversation and allowing us to sample beers if we indicated interest, but weren't yet fully sold on something. Certain creature comforts aside, you can't argue with a place that serves such an array of quality beer. Wine-bottle sized servings of Delirium Tremens are on the menu, as are Chimay Blue, Loose Cannon Holy Sheet, and Duvel. The beer alone is worth it, and that - not the burgers! - is what ultimately drives up your tab at the end of the night. Do yourself the ultimate favor and spring for an order of fries; but don't stop there. Ask to be loaded down with the various sauce concoctions that are available--the whole array. If you dig dipping, you'll be in your glory. Order one more gourmet beer to pair with your dessert, which should always, always be the Chocolate Crack: four Saltines that are dipped in chocolate sauce, which hardens to a crunchy exterior around the cracker. Sweet...salty... entirely addictive. And only $2.95! I daresay, crack is not whack; it's what's for dessert. And you'll be back for more. read more

I've been to Harry's several times now and I like it. The Pros: There is a good beer selection and they have some really interesting mixed things if you're not into beer. The sliders are fantastic. Without a doubt you'll be craving them within days. I usually get the Bacon or the classic cheese burger but I've had the chicken one as well as bites from a few other things on the menu. There's no issue with the taste; it all tastes good. The Cons: It's tiny. The downstairs is really cool but really small so it can get crowded quickly. The upstairs lacks any sense of ambiance or vibe. As another poster noted the dirty carpet gives the place a weird TGI Fridays vibe. The service can be spotty. I've had great servers and I've had people who forgot to come back to the table. Kind of all over the place. You also may leave smelling like a burger joint; you've been warned. The bathroom is always clean but not as large as i would expect for a place that could hold that many people. In the end, I like the burgers and I'll keep going back but I would stay away on nights where it may be a little more crowded as it may just be too stressful and not worth the wait. read more

Burgers seem to all get served well done, but are likely prepared on a griddle so are absolutely on point. I also had the salt and pepper fries with cheese sauce. Very nice. One note to you cheese fries lovers...the cheese sauce is served over the fries, not on the side...just in case you have an opinion on your cheese. After being intrigued whenever I drove by the giant cow, I finally found the time to venture over to Harry's Bar and Burger this weekend. I like the idea of the place - it's somewhere better fast food or a family restaurant, without being a pretentious foodie haven. The drinks were... well, the same as drinks you get anywhere. The burgers were good. They weren't some sort of amazing this-is-the-best-burger-ever type of thing, but definitely worth coming back for. The only thing I didn't like about this place was that it's size means the tables are so close together that you feel like you're sharing your dinner with total strangers. That and the very bright lighting in there kills any kind of intimate mood. Overall, great place to go with some friends, maybe not the best date location. If I had a friend who was only in town for a night, I probably wouldn't take them here. However, if they were in town for a couple days, Harry's would almost definitely be on my list of cool local spots to show them. read more

Lovvvve this place! A friend took me here back in Oct and Im just sitting down to write about it. This place is very unassuming from outside. I would have driven right past it. The decor inside is that of a small English pub. Dark wood, great beers, and nice and small. Im obsessed with the cowhide backs to the bar stools. Really cool. Now for the food. The burgers... wow! I could seriously sit here and put back like 4 orders of these bad birds. I cant wait to go back and try them all. The black pepper fries are pretty awesome as well. I'm quite a fan of the Chow Fun Food Group, but I must say, that the service I received on Sunday night at Harry's Burger Bar was beyond disappointing. Our party of 5 was seated upstairs at around 8:15pm. The waitress - whose name I can't tell you because she didn't bother to introduce herself - seemed less than thrilled to be waiting on us. She stood nearby as we wondered aloud if the burgers came with fries or if those had to be ordered separately. Did she provide some insight for us? Clearly not. We ordered our food. When she returned with our meals, she asked "do you need any forks, ketchup or anything?" while she WALKED INTO THE OTHER ROOM. Nothing like hosting a travelling conversation with yourself. I ordered the Pig Pile Burger. The burger was rather too pink for my liking; I enjoy my burgers medium well. She never did ask me how I wanted my burger - is this the common practice at Harry's? I would have told her what I thought about my burger, but she never once came and asked us how our food was nor did she ask us if we wanted any more drinks. She came back upstairs to clear our plates. At this point she finally asked us if we wanted another drink, but seeing as how we were clearly inconveniencing her, we politely declined. Still she did not ask us how the meal was. She dropped the bill and scurried off. We waited for her return....and waited some more. Finally, my friend looked up the number to Harry's Burger Bar and called to ask if someone could please send the waitress upstairs. The waitress returned laughing,"Did you really just call here?" Yes, we really did and no, you shouldn't be laughing. What disturbs me the most is that the owner, Harry, came upstairs at least twice to go into a closet. He did not come over either to ask as how we - the only table upstairs - were doing. PLEASE NOTE::I sent the above in an email via the web AND one via email on March 22. Still no reply from anyone. Ok, time for a long overdue update of Harry's Bar! I figured out how to have a kick ass time everytime we come here: #1- Come during HAPPY HOUR weekdays from 3-5 when all burgers are HALF price!! This is really a no brainer, why pay double ever again for the same burger?! #2- Sit at the BAR. The bartenders are all awesome, friendly, and professionals who have great personality and give excellent service. The first couple times we sat at the tables where service can be sub-par. It seems they have the A team at the bar and the B team on the floor. The difference in service level is palpable. The food is always awesome no matter what kind of burger you order and the beer selection is also fantastic, so keep the above in mind and you won't be disappointed. read more

HAPPY HOUR 3-5 MONDAY-FRIDAY Half price burgers during happy hour cannot be beat. Harry's"s has the Slider burger business on lock down. These little burgers pack a punch when it comes to flavor. I highly recommend the "double wide" with bacon. The service ca be a bit slow, but that is compounded by the fact that the kitchen is tiny and usually only one chef is on duty pumping out these perfect little burgers. With a very long and varied list of beers waiting time is usually handled with aplomb. read more
