The saying is "You get what you pay for." Having been to several of the "top" tailors in Dallas, I have found this statement to be 100% true. Although just about about any tailor can hem a pair of slacks as it's a simple job, altering the body of a suit jacket for a tailored look takes a deft hand. Harry's is definitely the most expensive tailor I've ever used but undoubtedly the best. All the other tailors I've used for suit jackets have resulted in multiple visits to correct botched jobs and still don't look as good as I'd hoped. I brought in my new tuxedo jacket to get the sides and back taken in and Harry pinned it up just right. Five days and $65 later, my jacket looked amazing. It fit perfect and they even pressed out all the wrinkles I dropped it off with so I was ready for my black tie event the next day. This is my new go to spot for tailoring! You can't put a price on quality. This hold true for Harry's. Sure, they are pricier than other places, but when you make a big investment like a suit or jacket you want to be sure you have the right guys (and gals) working on it. In my case, I needed to get my newly bought suit tailored quickly for a friend's wedding. When I walked in I was warmly greeted and just a couple minutes later they were already chalking up my suit. Total time spent: 10 minutes. I picked up my suit later on in that week and couldn't be happier. I've been going to Unique Tailor for my tailoring needs and I will still go for my everyday clothes. But when it comes down to getting expensive things altered this is my place! Two things to keep in mind. 1) They are cash only. You won't have to pay up front so just call them before you pick them up so you can get the exact amount. 2) It is pretty warm in there. I brought in a suit to get tailored. I had the jacket sleeves hemmed and sides tightened, and pants hemmed and waist tightened. Took about a week and cost $175. If you buy alot of high end designer clothes and are looking to get your ego stroked by an overconfident, yet highly skilled Italian seamster (male version of seamstress), then Harry is your guy. Just be sure to bring in multiple items or else he might think you are poor and unworthy of his ego stroking services. If you are a young professional and just out of college, then look elsewhere (try Unique Tailor off of Greenville or Sun Tailor off of Plano Parkway) for a better deal of equal or better quality. read more

Disappointing customer service, mediocre quality. Recently went to Harry's at recommendation of high end men's clothing store to shorten sleeves of leather jacket purchased out of state. Their leather tailor has been ill and thus rec Harry's as an alternative. Even called to assess duration of work. When I got to Harry's, I was greeted by the grumpy namesake who measured me and told me he could do the work. He proceeded to tack three days onto the duration of work that had been quoted to me earlier. I dared not question him, as I was no longer in a rush, I wanted the job done well, and I feared by his personality he would yell at me. He very rudely stated the cost, as if he thought or hoped it would deter me. I said ok. He told me the date of completion again. No where in the store does it state cash only and no where did he state such, btw. I contacted the store the day before due date to assess completion. Most alterations are completed the day prior. I was curtly told it would be ready the day the ticket was stated and it would be LATE in the day. Click, the phone hung up. I arrived before closing, the jacket not entirely complete. It was still in process of being steamed. I tried it on, the work was acceptable. I was handed the coat on a shirt hanger, not the jacket hanger I brought it in on. I went to pay. I suspected cash, but asked about credit and was rudely told no credit. Because I had assumed so by the owner being such an asshat, I brought the money. Not that it is a tremendous deal, but the cost jumped up 6.5$. I wouldn't have batted an eye, but the guy was such a dick about things that I was a little disappointed. The work is acceptable and the coat was not easy to work on. I think the shop is ok, but understand you will not get great customer service. I like to support the small business owners. I do not mind paying a premium. I certainly have no problem paying for quality. I do expect some courtesy and graciousness. I will not be coming back. read more

Excellent job done on two pairs of jeans I brought in to be hemmed for my wife. Can't even tell they have been altered. Absolutely excellent work. That said, the reason for 2 stars is the fact that Harry's only takes CASH and CHECKS ONLY, and does not accept credit or debit cards. In 2013, it should be a given to accept cards...not knowing this, I had to leave the store, go to an ATM (a Chase is close by) and come back to pay for my garments. Maybe it's petty, but the inconvenience is too much for me to come back. Again, they do EXCELLENT WORK...there's a reason they've gotten D's Best for several years. Be prepared to spend some serious cash when you leave anything. 3. it is really warm in the shop so when you are changing in and out of your clothes to get altered you sweat like you are at the gym. 4. There are clothes EVERYWHERE! I had some simple alterations done on various pieces of clothing and I was shocked at the overall cost. Dropped off a dress for a simple alteration (the top was a bit gapey- it was supposed to have a 'keyhole' opening, but it was more of a window) and was told it would be no problem. Turn around wasn't amazingly fast, but I also didn't need to have the dress back instantly. It was priced about what I thought it would be for that alteration. I took a suit in to this place based on the reviews and I was first taken back by all the clutter of clothing and random mess in the front waiting area. I had two jackets taken up on the sleeves less than an inch, the jack bottom altered an inch and the skirt's back hem closed an inch and a half. I was quite surprised when they charged me $150 for this task. I was happy the job was complete within a week as promised however after picking up my clothing I am quite displeased with the hem job. The inside fabric on my jacket is pulling unevenly and thus, making the back flap of my jack pull outward across the backside. The skirt hem is uneven by 1/4" and has what I would label as iron/burn marks across the middle fabric area. I was also displeased that my clothing was sitting with all other racks of dirty/clean clothing orders and not covered in plastic when I arrived as the fabric has a food/musky odor. I would have been happy to pay the $150 had this suit been hemmed properly but now I will need to go somewhere to get it evened out. On the other hand, I am not sure the iron stains will ever come out. I would not recommend this place. read more

Really great tailor. I went to him because of all the fantastic reviews he got and I couldn't agree more with them. I went to him for alterations to a bridesmaids dress. The shop is nice and I felt completely comfortable there, which is important when you have to get undressed there and have a man pulling, tucking and pinning you. My dress was ready to pick up in 3 or 4 days and he did a FANTASTIC job. He had to take it up 6 inches or so and take it in on the middle where there was a lot of ruching by an inch on both sides. I read reviews for tailors all across Dallas and landed on Harry's since it is very close to my office and the reviews were excellent. I can echo that Harry's is not cheap but the work is phenomenal. I was greeted by Harry when I walked in and gone in ten minutes after he chalked up the suit and ensured that I felt comfortable with the fit he had pinned. A week later, I walked in and the suit fit like a glove and no further alterations were needed. Harry's is indeed cash or check only but he gives you the price ahead of time so you really have no excuses to not have the proper payment on pickup. I will likely take my "everyday" clothes somewhere cheaper but for any jackets, suits, etc. I will continue to trust Harry and his crew. read more

I came in as a new customer on a Friday with a jacket and skirt that needed to be altered. Since it was Memorial Day weekend and toward the end of the day Friday it was understanding that my outfit would not be complete until later the next week. Harry asked if the time worked for me which I said yes but also disclosed that I had an interview that Tuesday and this was my best suit (I had lost weight recently). He was so considerate of my needs that he squeezed me in before the holiday and had my suit tailored by the very next day!!! And the fit was perfect, even better than when I bought it.
