Nothing special or fancy about this location. Even though it's a small location, they still have a small buffet inside. They've done a few updates to the flooring, countertop at register and bar area, and fresh paint on walls near the restrooms, otherwise...it's a pretty dated building inside and out. You will usually see the construction workers come in during lunch. Their food is pretty consistent, but basic and not that great. I generally just come for the chicken strips and freshly baked yeast rolls. Their specials are a little ghetto and are written in marker on the white board by the register. When you order meals or small orders, they make your strips fresh, as opposed to the buffet where you may or may not get them freshly cooked. I don't really like most items on the buffet, nor the basic sides, so I skip the combo meal, skip the buffet, save the $1.75 and just get the 7 pc tender and roll with a drink. read more

they charge 3% additional for ALL ORDERS. that's not the prices advertised. That's not just credit card orders. I paid cash! still I was charged the additional 3%. When I confronted mgr. He was rude. Told me it was not unlawful to do this. It's called " false advertising"! This establishment is unethical. More over the restaurant always looks filthy and it's not even that good. My family and I recently stumbled upon this hidden gem while traveling to the Houston area. Being from the DFW area we have plenty of fried chicken options. We wanted a place sit down and have some fried chicken for dinner but something quick and fast with lots of options. What better way to satisfy our appetite with a fried chicken buffet. After reading some of the past reviews, I was hesitant but learned that it was under new management. Photos are everything to me . So looking at before and after pictures, I could tell that this new owner gave this place a new vibe and a much needed face lift. Let me tell you this place did not disappoint. Dara, the new owner brought us fresh rolls right out the oven and chicken right out the fryer. YUMMY!! Unlike other fast food buffet places, Dara is definitely striving for freshness and quality in his food. The dinner rolls I learned are made in house and then right into the oven. It tasted semi-sweet, buttery and all so fluffy. Never frozen and rebaked. The fried chicken was crispy and juicey. I could tell that Dara is very personable and passionate in trying to rebuild this business that was established in 1972. Mu 1St time visiting and whoa I was thoroughly amazed at how friendly and welcoming the centralized and intimate location was. I would have guessed it would have been crowded but no no line no wait as I was the only one there . The buffet offered a vast variety of sides aside from chicken which is in the name and thete was even Peach Cobble(Did I say ill be back because I will)and finally for 10 bucks on my minimal order the flavors were delicious. Hartz Chicken Buffet is a go-to place if you want to get full, not spend a lot of money and not to concerned about quality. To be fair the fried chicken, gizzards and livers are not bad. Unfortunately the veggies are awful. They could be enhanced if they managed the heat of food better. Although all veggies sit in a steam table they're consistently lukewarm. Oddly the chicken part of steam table seems to stay hotter. I suspect it's a conscious effort to extend the life of unused veggies. The longer they're subjected to heat the faster they break down in texture. They also have some sort of dessert like bread pudding. This place needs to be closed. I'm turning them into Harris County Health. I bought a 3 piece order and the chicken was old, looks like it had been fried twice . One of the wings was rotten when torn open ..you could smell it. Unfortunately it was a to go order snd they wouldn't answer the phone when I called to complain. read more

Close it down!! I bought the 9pc chicken. I bit one piece and immediately knew I made a mistake coming here. It tasted like it had been cooked in old fish grease. I've been through their drive-through in New Caney, TX, , twice in the past 1-1 1/2 weeks. The cashiers do not understand English, plus there is a lot of noise coming from the building next door. I ordered chicken livers, both times. The first time, they were too hard to eat. The second time, they were full of gizzards, not livers. Again, they were too hard to eat. I ordered two thighs. They were mostly inedible. I am sure that they are re-frying these items, rather than wasting them out. Unfair. Why do we pay for fresh food, and receive reheated food? Stumbled upon this chain purely by chance. Ordered their southern style fried chicken strips with fries a yeast roll and gravy. The food looked delicious but it was surprisingly light in the flavor department. The chicken was nice breast pieces and not pressed like many chains. It was ok but too underseasoned. The fries and gravy were also short on seasoning. The roll was fantastic. Light and airy with a hint of sweetness it saved the meal from two stars. Nice Buffet to eat from. It's in the heart of Humble and the customer service is good. You can get an all you can eat buffet meal for about $10.00. There are a good choice of foods which include chicken tenders, chicken breast, mashed potatoes, salad, 2 different dressings, cobbler, rice, dirty rice snd more. They also have a tv that you can watch while your eating inside, it can be a little loud at times. The only thing I don't like is the fries aren't included with a buffet purchase. read more

I've been here on numerous occassions since 1991, the interior has some improvements, mainly the ceiling tiles and fans, as well as paint, but as one customer plainly stated this place is definitely dated. The average employee is here, obviously because they can't find something better. Many of the local Illegals eat here, which is not a slap on them, it's just cheap. The Hartz on Wilson is a little better, when the AC is working! My advise to the owner, hire a Filipino Family and stand back, you'll see an improvement over night. read more

Went back to Hartz Chicken Buffet today for some good food, because of our resent experience that we had at this particular restaurant. We do not stay in the area, but because of the food and service we received about two weeks ago, we decided let's go back to Hartz's, we though we finally found the perfect Hartz's. We decided to purchase chicken to go. Today the customer service sucked. The cook was nice and inviting, but the cashier/server sucked. We order a 20 piece meal for our family. Was not enough chicken so we had to wait. We did not mind waiting because who does not like hot chicken. When the chicken was ready the cook said that the 20 piece was ready and the cashier/server ask him was that all the chicken he cooked and he said why and she said because others in the drive thru was waiting and we said go ahead and give them that chicken and we would wait until the next batch comes out they said okay. The problem is when the chicken was finally ready my husband notice the cashier/server putting some of the older chicken that had been previously cooked, and had been sitting is what she proceed to give us and he questioned her about the chicken and she told him if you want it a certain way, you need to come back here and cook it yourself. (WOW what a way to talk to customers) I did notice her attitude when we walked into Hartz's, but I will give everybody a second and even a third chance. I also notice how she was throwing the food around and how she was talking to the customers and also her co-workers, really no communication at all, just demands. I tried to make conversation, but all I can say is (WOW). The cook he is very nice and the other employees are really nice too, but not this particular employee, all I can do is shake my head. I know we all have bad days but this was a bit much. Upon eating our chicken at home we notice that she did give us some bad chicken, and the rolls were burnt, the entire dozen (Hartz's) they are known for their rolls, but not these, they are burnt, she just did not care. We don't think that this was fair due to the fact that we sit there and waited for hot chicken, not only that, but serve other customers that was in the the drive-thru waiting after we had order, and this is the thanks we get for WAITING, bad food and service from this one employee, her service sucked. We will not be returning to this Hartz's due to this one employee and her attitude, she is one rude person. GOOD RIDDANCE!!! read more
