I've had a couple cakes from Harvest Bakery: 1 that I ordered and another that was at a party. Lemme tell ya, they do such wonderful cakes. I ordered the "Small" Tres Leche cake for what seemed like a hefty price (~$30). The person at the bakery said it would feed 4-6 people. I paid it anyway since my boyfriend raved about it and loves Tres Leche. I picked it up at the busy bakery - lots of people buying lunch and treats. It was a little hectic with very little system on who went first, but everyone was very nice. The treats in the cases looked very tempting! The lady had a little difficulty finding the cake so I was worried that they didn't have it, but then she brought out a big box. At first I thought, that box is a little overkill for a small cake... But when she handed it to me, it must have weighed 10 pounds, was made in a 9x13 pan, but was at least 4 inches tall. Serves 6 people? Let's talk about serving 16 hungry people!! Boyfriend LOVED it. Fresh whipped cream and fruit ALL over the dense but moist cake. It was a little too sweet for my liking, but I know Tres Leche are supposed to be. I hate to admit it, but the two of us ate all of it the cake over the course of like 2 weeks (and it was just as good on day 14 as day 1). I think I'm still carrying around at least 4 pounds of it on my hips, but so worth it. The second cake was a "Cherry Nut" cake. I was little hesitant at first because it was bright pink cake with walnuts and I don't really like nuts in my cake, but I'm SO glad I tried it. The cake was moist and fluffy and you could really taste the maraschino cherries (there were chunks of those throughout as well) and the nuts really combined well with the cherry flavor. It was beautifully decorated and also very tall (but more normal sized than my first encounter with Harvest Bakery. Overall, I am so so happy with what I've put in my mouth from Harvest Bakery. I would absolutely recommend the bakery for anyone looking for cakes. I cannot wait to try more of their treats! read more

Great italian cookies awesome canolli and very nice and respectful staff. The cakes are made exactly as ordered and full of fruit instead of a small amount. You get better than you pay for and always go out of their way to change something if you bring it to their attention. Great job Harvest Family. read more

I'm giving three stars because 1. The girl who helped me first was SUPER friendly! But the second girl who helped me was so monotone, no expression on her face. I felt weird asking her about the donuts. She didn't smile at me or anything. I felt very awkward. 2. The custard filled donut was definitely FILLED but lacking a certain taste I feel it should have had. Good none the less though. I would get that again. The glazed cruller was a little on the dry side. But again, was ok. Not terrible. 3. The prices I feel are great. Less than DD donuts for sure. Delicious cupcakes however they forgot to deliver a large order that we had confirmed the week of and paid for in advance. We called them a half hour after they were supposed to show up and they were able to get the order together and come in the middle of the bridal shower. They apologized and gave us a discount. Reasonable staff, but just make sure if you have a big order for a special occasion you call the morning of to remind them. read more

Wonderful little bakery. As soon as you walk in the aroma hits you. All Their baked goods are delicious, however, I'm not a huge fan of their cakes. I come here every Easter to get their cheese babka. Their rolls are very good as well. I always pick up a bag of the butter cookies with sprinkles they have on the counter before I leave. They are buttery with a slight hint of almond and are very moist and crumbly. Delicious!! read more

I will never get anything at this bakery again. I ordered a cake for my daughters birthday and it looked cute but it tasted horrible. The cake was dry and it had a sour taste to it. Needless to say after cutting it all up and serving it to all the guests they all threw their plates in the garbage. I called the bakery numerous times and nobody got back to me. So I finally had the time to stop in there and I was told there is nothing that can be done because I didn't bring the cake back. I guess I was suppose to dig the cake out of the garbage to bring back to the bakery. This cake cost me $50.00 and the manager told me there is absolutely nothing he could do. Didn't even offer a partial refund or a store credit NOTHING!!! Not that I would ever get anything else there but it's the principle. read more

First visit and cannot wait to return. Chocolate chip cookies and brownies are a barometer to any rating of a bakery and 5 stars are warranted, they are excellent. The cakes are fantastic. I love Harvest. They have the best Rye bread, I like seeds, my wife likes it without, we get both, all the other breads and pasteries are fantastic too. I'm going to get a birthday cake today; special request from the birthday girl for a Harvest Cake.. They are closed on Mondays....imagine taking a day off....I love them. The people are nice too, always good customer service and always fast even when there is a big line at Holidays. They make the best donuts. White cream filled donuts are to die for. They make them with chocolate cream on top and white in the middle or chocolate on top and chocolate in the middle. If you get there early they can specially make them for you with white on top with white in the middle that's the way I like them. read more

We've gone to Harvest since I was a kid when they used to give me a free butter cookie and they don't seem to have slipped at all in the past 20 years, despite changing owners! Pure decadence. Let me make it simple for you. If you are heading down Rt. 6 in Bristol, find this place and stop in. The aromas are unbelievable...but the taste is even better. This is what bakeries are supposed to be like. Not the grocery store look-a-like's we see in ubiquity today. These guys have fresh, made from scratch, with the best of ingrediants, plain old good stuff. Have one of their donuts and you will NEVER want to go in a Dunkin or Mister Donut again. I have been going to this bakery since I was a kid. Over 50 years. Through the years their products have never changed. They do not cheapen any ingredients. They have used the same recipes since they opened. The very best hard rolls if you try them you will never use store bought ones. The cakes are delicious, the pies are great. Love this place. I have been coming here since I was a child. In high school I used to stop before school to get the sprinkle butter cookies. That was my breakfast! They are the best. Now I pick up a bag for my nephews. They can't get enough of them. I always order cakes from here. Yum. Their cakes always look prefect! Some of the other items I also love are their brownies and they have the BEST raspberry crumb cake. Love love. You can't go wrong with anything you get!! Oh I forgot, their hard rolls are so great! When I get them that day I will eat them just plain cause that's how yummy they are! I can't say enough great things about Harvest. I even have their number programed in my phone. If you go on the weekends the also make very large soft salt preztels and some other flavors. So tasty. I know my pretzels and these are in the top. Their prices are not bad either. Followed the advice of fellow yelpers on what they liked the best in choosing what to buy along with what I like of course. So I picked up a lemon cheese ring cake, boston creme donuts, and sprinkle butter cookies. The lemon cheese cake was the best of the bunch - light cakey crumb cake with a nice lemon curd type filing but a little weak on the cheese for my taste. Next were their famous boston creme donuts with custard filling. These were OK but nothing special as the custard filing was bland and for the price you can do just as well or better with the ones they sell at the supermarkets depending on which you go. Last, and definitely least, were the sprinkle butter cookies or at least that is what I thought they were made with. These are NOT made with butter but instead lard or Crisco type shortening. Now I know that some bakeries use butter and some use lard and some use both but you can really taste the difference if they use lard especially with cookies. These cookies were like little circles of sweetened shortening with a nasty after taste that lingers in the back of your mouth for way too long. No real special taste to them and the texture is very pasty-like. Not what I was expecting at all and so bad they just got tossed. Pricing is on the high side which kept me from trying any of the pastries in the case as they were smallish in size but largish in cost. $17 total for the ring cake, 6 donuts, and 1/2 lb. of cookies but it could have been worse so I'm glad I showed my best bakery restraint by getting out of there under $20. The service was acceptable and parking was easy and plentiful. read more

The Harvest Bakery is now 70 years old, and it is a local monument to perfection on Rt 6, Farmington Ave, in Bristol. I remember fondly visiting the Harvest Bakery after church every Sunday with my family for freshly baked breads and pastries. It was always a family treat that we all looked forward to after attending Mass. This place is a one-of-a-kind bakery and a nostalgic remnant from the distant past. Check it out and you won't be disappointed. I originally gave it 4 stars, but I changed my mind since this is rare treat in Connecticut. I stopped by on my way back from visiting my mom at the Nursing Home the other day and the experience is still the same. The incredible smells of freshly baked specialty breads, special pastries, cookies and fresh donuts just knocked me out. They would also knock off the donut chains we now have. Lets just say I love cake! It is my absolute favorite desert ever...and because of this fact I'm very picky with what kind I like with both the cake and frosting. Harvest bakery has the absolute best frosting that I've had ever in 30 years of trying cake from every bakery I stumble upon. Not too sweet, but just right. I even passed up the free cake that came with my wedding venu to have harvest make my wedding cake. My three towered masterpiece was everything plus more. I highly recommend it! Also, did I mention it's their buttercream frosting that I love the most? I also recommend their round marble breads that go great at our family summer picnics with dill dip! Also try thei lemon curd cupcakes dusted with powder sugar...yum yum...I want all of it now.
