#1 the waitress. She was having a crazy night but to have the amazing positive attitude while dealing with her crazy surroundings was above and beyond all expectations. Her name is Katie and she's GREAT! I had the Parmesan crusted steak asked for medium got well done and it was not cooked evenly. Had amazing flavor though!! Mac&cheese eeeh kind of bland. Asparagus - the ends weren't cut off so a bit of a stringing cardboard crunch. Also had great flavor, though. Hubby had the crispy chicken Sammy with honey mustard (made in house). Really good!! Highly recommend. I wish the family that was behind us would have paid attention to their kids. They kept ramming into my chair and the son literally slammed into my husband like he was going to sit on his lap, no sorry no excuse me....nothing. It may be a drive from Alton to Jerseyville for breakfast, but it's well worth it. Olive Branch Cafe, is a good ole country diner with down home comfort food. I knew I had found a winner as soon as I pulled in the parking lot. When I saw a group of farmers talking and saying good-bye to each other after dining. I knew if it was good enough for them, it has to be good. When entering I took notice of the Daily Specials on the large wipe board. Moving over to IL, I have learned to take note of chalk boards and wipe boards when entering a restaurant, you'll find specials that they may omit to tell you. Seeing that their BIG Breakfast was on sale $2 off, I took the opportunity to get a sampling of multiple breakfast staples. My plate was filled with 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 patties of sausage, hash browns and one biscuit with gravy. It truly was a BIG breakfast, I couldn't clean my plate it was so much food. I took my left-overs home to use as a topping for my fur-babies evening meal. My meal was hearty. The bacon was crisp and so were my hash browns. The sausage and eggs were also done to my liking. I like my eggs over hard with the yokes broken and some diners don't like to do them that way, but OBC did them perfectly. Best of all, was the biscuit with milk gravy filled with chunks of sausage. All the food was seasoned lightly. Normally, diners over do the salt, but not here. I did have to give a few shakes of pepper, but I love pepper. However, I'm very glad we stopped here and would again. The place is clean and well-kept. A group of us had lunch at Harvest Home on 10/13/24 about 11:15 am. I believe we had reservations for 10 yet were seated at a table for 8, but I could be mistaken. Two more joined our group a few minutes late and sat at the table literally adjacent to ours. When asked about joining tables, our waitress indicated that would be problematic as their table was being serviced by someone else. We joined the tables regardless of that nonsense, when the manager came by and scoffed about it too. I'm sorry, but joining tables should not be an issue when a group of 10 is supporting your business. It's not that hard of an accommodation/adjustment to make! That was the first of many issues to follow. The waitress took our orders promptly, including the two latecomers, and responded back with our drinks and one of two side salads quickly. However, she never returned to check on our table again until the food came out, a solid 45 minutes later, walking all around us the entire time. Everyone needed drink refills after 30+ minutes, which finally got addressed by the manager 5 minutes before our food came. We were never asked about refills again. And to top that, they were out of ice tea at lunch hour, so some had to wait even longer. When the food finally came, we discovered one meal was never ordered (thus explaining only one of two side salads) and it had to be prepared while the rest of us ate. Her forgotten salad was brought out right away, followed by the meal 10 minutes later. She had to pay full price with really no apologies being made for the blunder. One in our party ordered a Western Omelet, yet received a very sad looking plate of something. She even asked the waitress about it, but any concern being indicated was blown off. If I had to suspect, the kitchen pulled a fast one. She appeared to have been given a Country Skillet with an omelet placed on top of it. Whatever it was, it wouldn't have served it to my dogs, much less a human. Several of us commented on it's appalling presentation. Looking around at some of the other meals, two ordered the senior Liver and Onions, which looked very dry and tasteless. Another person ordered the senior roast beef which also appeared dry with absolutely no juice/drippings drizzled over it. I had a buffalo chicken wrap which was fresh but lacking in size and meat for the price. I never even had a chance to inquire about getting some ketchup for my fries, as the waitress disappeared never asking if anyone need anything else, only returning to divvy out the checks. Bottom line, as a church group, we will not be returning. The service and food were meh, leaving a lot to be desired. When this establishment operated as the Olive Branch, the atmosphere may have been a lot less appealing, but not one thing mentioned in this review would have ever been allowed to happened and they would have been slammed compared to the crowd seen on this visit. read more

Very disappointed in this place. Was very empty on a holiday (Mother's Day) and many meals were premade and unable to be customized due to food allergy. (Onions) For summarizing, I could order spaghetti and be onion free but could not order fettuccine alfredo as it has onion powder. Steak was out. Stir-fry was out. I opted for shrimp, which was excellent. The unseasoned side of corn was gross, but the baked potato was fine. The issue came at dessert. "Would we like ice cream?" Never have been asked that. Did they have a dessert menu? Server would find out. They had at least ten options including multiple pies, cakes, cheesecakes, and ice cream. We opted for pecan pie and standard cheesecake and each took one bite of each. The pecan pie was served cold and it was gooey, but had, dried, burnt pecans and was so inedible my husband spit it into a napkin. I forced my small bite down and doused it with hot tea. The cheesecake he said was awful, but I'm more the cheesecake eater I took a small bite and it tasted like drywall dust. For the first time in my memory (I'm 54) I actually said to the server "These are just terrible. We only took a bite." Husband told her he spit his in his napkin. She said to hold on and takes the plates. Thought we'd probably end up trading for something safe like the ice cream or chocolate cake. She comes back without the plates and says "I told them and you have to pay full price anyway. No discounts or anything else." Now, I was insulted. Some Mother's Day! I said, "That's fine. We'll pay and you'll get your tip but we will never come back." We went up front to pay. Handed her a cash tio. Stopped here for breakfast one morning with friends. We had to wait about 15 minutes on a table, due to social distancing. Waitress was quick to take drink order, then food order. I had biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. It was really good, lots of sausage gravy, 3 long strips of bacon. Two in our party had skillets and they both were happy with their meals. Figured I would give this place shot while I was passing the small town Jerseyville. On arrival, the store front seemed presentable and family friendly. I'm served by girl name Tiffany, who was very accurate and friendly while placing my order. Seemed as if no one in the kitchen spoke a word of English maybe is why the food took an hour to be prepared. But the restaurant provided entertainment as I was waiting on my order. Totally randomly, a black-haired waitress the center of the dining room begins screaming out "IM NOT ON METH I SWEAR TO GOD"... after waiting an hour to receive a grilled cheese sandwich with a hair in it yes, I agree. This location has been several restaurants at one time or another. The Olive Branch seems to be off on the right foot serving American and Italian food. I took my mother there for a belated Mother's day celebration. I had a New York strip and she had an Alfredo seafood dish. All in all an excellent meal with no complaints about the food. I love Olive Branch. We eat there once or twice a week. They are great for social distancing. Every other table is marked off. The staff is wonderful and the food is great. They have multiple specials every day. They have a special, less expensive menu for seniors. I love their salads and all of the entrees. The large dessert display near the entrance is so tempting. I will not go here again. We went yesterday my potatoes were old my boyfriends spaghetti was so watery with no flavor my 8 year old niece can make better spaghetti. I asked for a median steak and I got a well done steak. This is not the first time stuff has happened we had not all the way cooked fish before they would not give us our money back. This restaurant has been consistently good in the past-however, they have changed the menu and apparently a lot of staff changes also. Pasta primavera hardly had any vegetables , and the sauce seemed to be a cream of chicken soup base-awful!! Shrimp scampi came on a bed of greasy rice (????). Chicken salad plate was a SMALL scoop of way-too-creamy chicken salad, a very small scoop of cottage cheese, and a small amount of fruit for $10! I came here with my family for breakfast today. We called ahead and made a reservation because there were 11 of us. Our waitress didn't take our food order until after we were there for 30 minutes. We did not get our food for an hour after that! Our waitress was curt and unapologetic about the wait even when we asked for an update. She blamed the kitchen staff and everything else and never apologized. She kept saying that they wanted to bring our food out at the same time. At one point one of our party politely asked for more water and the waitress replied "I will but I have to get this food out first." My mother-in-law who is diabetic was getting irritable because she was needing food. When we finally got our food, most of it was cold or lukewarm. We attempted to complain to the manager and got an apology but it seemed insincere. This is not the way to treat paying customers. We will not return. read more
