It may be a drive from Alton to Jerseyville for breakfast, but it's well worth it. Olive Branch Cafe, is a good ole country diner with down home comfort food. I knew I had found a winner as soon as I pulled in the parking lot. When I saw a group of farmers talking and saying good-bye to each other after dining. I knew if it was good enough for them, it has to be good. When entering I took notice of the Daily Specials on the large wipe board. Moving over to IL, I have learned to take note of chalk boards and wipe boards when entering a restaurant, you'll find specials that they may omit to tell you. Seeing that their BIG Breakfast was on sale $2 off, I took the opportunity to get a sampling of multiple breakfast staples. My plate was filled with 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 patties of sausage, hash browns and one biscuit with gravy. It truly was a BIG breakfast, I couldn't clean my plate it was so much food. I took my left-overs home to use as a topping for my fur-babies evening meal. My meal was hearty. The bacon was crisp and so were my hash browns. The sausage and eggs were also done to my liking. I like my eggs over hard with the yokes broken and some diners don't like to do them that way, but OBC did them perfectly. Best of all, was the biscuit with milk gravy filled with chunks of sausage. All the food was seasoned lightly. Normally, diners over do the salt, but not here. I did have to give a few shakes of pepper, but I love pepper. The service was attentive and my coffee cup was never less then half full. I'll be returning for another hearty breakfast. When: July 31, 2021 Why: Breakfast

Service was good and the food was good. This was one of the only places that was open for miles around given that it was Easter Sunday so we didn't have many options. However, I'm very glad we stopped here and would again. The place is clean and well-kept. There are 2 main dining rooms and by the time we left, both were almost filled to capacity so clearly this is a popular place for locals.

Had a long, difficult and hot day at work. I got home and had no energy left to fix dinner. I wanted a big, cool salad-but didn't have the fixin's. Decided to try DoorDash from Olive Branch. For my first experience doing this, it was a perfect!! Food was here fast! And it was so good, I ate the whole thing! Check out this pic! Would give it 10 out of 10!! Thank you Olive Branch and my DoorDash driver!!

Very disappointed in this place. Was very empty on a holiday (Mother's Day) and many meals were premade and unable to be customized due to food allergy. (Onions) For summarizing, I could order spaghetti and be onion free but could not order fettuccine alfredo as it has onion powder. Steak was out. Stir-fry was out. I opted for shrimp, which was excellent. The unseasoned side of corn was gross, but the baked potato was fine. The issue came at dessert. "Would we like ice cream?" Never have been asked that. Did they have a dessert menu? Server would find out. They had at least ten options including multiple pies, cakes, cheesecakes, and ice cream. We opted for pecan pie and standard cheesecake and each took one bite of each. The pecan pie was served cold and it was gooey, but had, dried, burnt pecans and was so inedible my husband spit it into a napkin. I forced my small bite down and doused it with hot tea. The cheesecake he said was awful, but I'm more the cheesecake eater I took a small bite and it tasted like drywall dust. For the first time in my memory (I'm 54) I actually said to the server "These are just terrible. We only took a bite." Husband told her he spit his in his napkin. She said to hold on and takes the plates. Thought we'd probably end up trading for something safe like the ice cream or chocolate cake. She comes back without the plates and says "I told them and you have to pay full price anyway. No discounts or anything else." Now, I was insulted. Some Mother's Day! I said, "That's fine. We'll pay and you'll get your tip but we will never come back." We went up front to pay. Handed her a cash tio. She said she told the manager (or owner) what we said and their response was no discount. We had to pay in full even if we didn't eat it. We paid, left, and here's the review... Yep. Sigh.

The potato wedges are GF!!! The one and only downside to the grits was that they stopped being creamy and was more polenta-cakey only a few minutes after it got to the table, but honestly, did not mind at all. The dining room is eclectic, like visiting someone's Spanish villa's reading room. Really enjoyed it and will be back to try other dishes!

The food will be very familiar from the perspective that everything we had was excellent. We started with calamari, and to our surprise there were also a small group of onion straws on the plate. It was served with 2 sauces (one marinara and one aioli - both were excellent). Don't skip the fried lemons, they are an added treat. We then moved on to the Napoli salad, it is as described on the menu...crisp, and appropriately dressed. Then we had the special pizza of the evening, it was a black garlic base (not strong) with mushrooms and burrata on top - delicious. We also happen to be sitting next to the area with the pizza oven - a must see if you are there. We did sit inside, but outdoor seating was available. What might not be so familiar, but I thought was great, was a more casual atmosphere, and decor, I would classify is as upscale casual. Our server was very pleasant, the only thing that surprised me was the time in between courses seemed a bit longer than expected, but that gave my friends and I a chance to catch up. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and I will be back!!

The quality has not wavered once. I ordered what I always order: The Combo (fried eggs, maplewood smoked bacon, cheese, brioche toast), extra egg, extra bacon. Most kitchens treat a fried egg as binary (runny or ruined). Songbird has mastered the middle register: lacy edges with a yolk that stays glossy and intact right up until the first bite. I ordered them over hard, and they came out a bit closer to over medium, but they were just as good as I wanted them to be. The bacon carries real smoke. This is a decadent sandwich, big enough that half of it would make a light breakfast; I wasn't remotely hungry after one, the second half was indulgent. The service made the move too. The hostess still recognizes returning customers, and the bigger room finally lets the dining experience breathe. The service at the table could have been a little warmer as we've had it the past, but it is still professional. I was there with two close college buddies, one of whom declared his latte excellent. I keep meaning to get adventurous with the menu, but it is genuinely hard to find a bacon, egg, and cheese toasted this perfectly, and I'd go twice in one day if given the opportunity. 4.8 A full five arrives the day when I can arrive first thing on a Saturday without a 30 minute wait, honestly, it's hard to get a reservation here because of its popularity. I wanted my toast's jam to be on the side and they said no. It was a thick tasteless brick without the jam. The items are not as traditional for a breakfast spot, and when I asked the server what they were known for she said the drinks.... They also run a tight turnaround time so they will make you feel uncomfortable when its time to clear your table and pay the bill because they will tell you the next reservation is in 5minutes. The plates were all different and my guest who got a sandwich had her food come out in a plastic fry basket instead of the nicer plates. Odd. As I mentioned earlier, they are not kid friendly as they don't have a kids menu or kid friendly items like fruit and pancakes. We ordered a side of avocado and chicken sausage as those were the safest for us. Also there are no changing tables in the restrooms. Accessibility note: the entrance is a giant multi-slope and 1 turn ramp into a cramped lobby. The men's restroom is the only one on the main floor and female restroom is tucked far in the backroom inaccessible due to a steep step in the back. It is not wheelchair or walker friendly.

We arrived around 1pm, apparently their peak but we were quickly seated. Though busy, noise levels were moderate and ambiance was typical of a family restaurant. We both had the country fried steak and biscuits, Karla with scrambled eggs and American fries, basically seasoned fries cut into cubes. She didn't care for the seasoning but she's admitted picky with a very low tolerance for spicy food. I had mine with traditional hash browns and eggs over easy. I've had better country fried steak but it was decent and the meal was otherwise great. Everything was served on one plate, just the way I like it, allowing me to mix things up with my hash browns and biscuits. The biscuits are served on the side of the plate, not topped with gravy in case you'd rather have butter and/or jelly on your biscuits, and they were hot and fluffy with good flavor.
