Stopped with local friends for a late lunch before heading back home (out of state). The food was sub par and not worth the $. The home fries were so overcooked on two of the orders they tasted almost burnt. The eggs benedict was ok, but the biscuit was a little hard. The lobster roll was very bland. The chips with it were very overcooked and almost burnt. The eggs benedict ans fries were served cold. The burger was the most edible out of all our orders, but was a little overcooked on one side. We did try the pimento cheese and chips appetizer. That was very good. This is definitely not the local spot to eat though when your appetizer outshines four meals ordered. This was our second time eating here while passing through Rome. It was so good the first time, we decided to go back. We got the pimento cheese appetizer and it was amazing. For our main dish, we got salmon patties (they have onions in them just fyi), fried okra and sweet potato shuffle. We told the waiter we were going to split the dish so when she brought it out, it was already divided. They charged $2 extra for splitting the plate but we both got a full serving of sides so that was a nice surprise and we both had plenty, especially after having an appetizer. The sweet potato shuffle was amazing! It was like eating a dessert. We were with friends and they both ordered a burger which they really enjoyed as well. We will be back again if in the area. Had dinner there last night and was soooo disappointed. The menu is much more expensive than the lunch menu and the portions were smaller and far less palatable. We sent some of our food back when most all of it should have gone back. I will say this, if u go in at lunch, order a Jammin Tomato Sandwich. THAT is spectacular! read more

I've was SO disappointed yesterday. I've been to Harvest Moon several times, so when my out-of-town-family came to visit yesterday and we were looking for a lunch spot, I thought an afternoon spent in downtown Rome would be fun. We drove from Cartersville and arrived at Harvest Moon to be told (at 12:30 on a Tuesday) that the kitchen was backed up and it would "be a while." Okay... I've worked in restaurants before. I know how that can happen. But, the restaurant wasn't even seated to capacity and there was no line waiting, so I figured it wouldn't be too much longer than usual at lunchtime. I told the hostess I understood and we were seated outside. We were one of four tables outside for one server. Our server arrived, took our drink orders, took our food orders, and we relaxed, understanding that it might be a longer-than-typical wait time. And the clock kept ticking... and ticking... and ticking. About forty minutes later, I noticed that two groups that had both been seated after us, both ordered after us (also seated outside) had not only received their food, but were finished and getting their checks. I asked our server how much longer for our very standard order and he said "Not too much longer." About ten minutes later, I asked again. Again, I was told "Not too much longer." He kept coming out to refill drinks and bring food to the other tables seated outside, but we still sat there with empty stomachs and two children under the age of 3 who were starving and getting restless. At the ONE HOUR wait point, I called our server over and asked him if he could bring us our check for our drinks, that we needed to feed these children, and we had plans for the rest of the afternoon. He said "Oh, I'm sorry. I'll put a rush on it in the kitchen." A rush?! A rush after an hour wait?! A rush after everyone around us had already received their food?! I told him we'd wait 5 more minutes and then we were leaving. Surprise, surprise... our food arrived within that five minutes. He apologized again twice, but when we got our checks (which amazingly arrived before we'd even finished eating our food that was not worth the hour-plus wait), nothing had been comped, no manager ever came out to talk to us, nothing. Just "Sorry." Sorry that we left a bad impression with your family and that we pretty much sucked up most of the afternoon you'd wanted to spend enjoying downtown Rome on a pretty day. Completely disappointed and probably won't go back. Downtown Rome has a lot more restaurant options than it used to, so I'll pick another spot next time. read more

Another very pleasant surprise. The crab cakes were creamy and not at all the way most are. They were delicious. After a long day traveling a hefty 65 miles, my mother and I needed a place to dine. Luckily, Harvest Moon Cafe was one of the few restaurants in downtown Rome that doesn't close until 10, giving us ample time to enjoy a meal. We are both vegetarians and found the black bean burger more than just delicious. It was heavenly. A nice amalgam of sweet honey, creamy avocado, and savory black bean. The pickles were also pristine, bursting with dill flavor. As a pickle connoisseur, I take pride in munching on pristine pickles only. Overall, wonderful experience. There are a few things dearer to my heart than food, but not too many. We just shared a bowl of shrimp and grits and a house salad with raspberry vinegarette dressing. The servings were HUGE and so delicious. The price is so reasonable too, and you must try the sweet tea. read more

A disappointing experience. We were hungry and decided to get an appetizer. The Wicked Pimina Cheese Dip was okay but a bit bland and the accompanying chips were heavy with oil as if they had been fried at too low a temperature or were not drained properly. It really did not seem worth the $8 cost. There was at least a 30 minute wait for our dinners to arrive and when they did it was obvious 3 of 4 had been sitting under the lights for a very long time as 2 of the "medium" Red-Headed Strangers were now well done and my Angry Bird was dry and tough. It was also obvious the 4th dinner (also a Stranger) was fresh off the grill. Not really sure what happened but I can guess. The burgers were still quite good and would have been rated higher had they not taken so long or been overcooked. The Angry Bird was also so over-seasoned that the salt taste was far stronger than the spicy buffalo sauce. I hope we just caught them on a bad day. read more

I'm kind of shocked at the reviews for this restaurant. We were excited to try this restaurant because of the ratings and a suggestion from a friend that lives in Rome. I truly believe this restaurant wouldnt stay open for 6 months in any of the suburbs of Atlanta. We started the evening in the moon bar with a few drinks. The atmosphere and drinks were excellent. It took me 12 minutes by my watch to check out when our table became available, however. The bartender was busy playing with his phone and selecting a playlist for the music and chatting with the other bartender...Its frustrating when your party has already left for the table and you are stuck waiting to close out a check. People tend to over exaggerate time but it was exactly 12 minutes because I was staring at my phone when they were called by the table. I eventually had to leave the table and stand at the bar to close the check and go downstairs for dinner. In defense the bar was busy but not THAT busy. We started dinner with the bacon wrapped shrimp and the calamari. The calamari was the best thing we had with dinner and gave us hope for the meal. Why did we need hope for the rest of the meal...The bacon wrapped shrimp were truly awful. They were one of the worst appetizers I've ever had in any restaurant. There was no flavor, the bacon was overcooked to brittle and the toast was burned. Im not sure how the kitchen let the bacon wrapped shrimp go out in such a manner. Typically the person working the window that garnishes the food catches these types of kitchen nightmares. On to the main course - I had a Thai chicken dish and a couple of the others in our party had the pimento cheese burger for the main course. The Thai chicken dish advertised it had a couple of vegetables and a spicy Curry taste (carrots/peppers and one other vegetable). I chose to leave a couple of vegetables out of the dish. The dish was delivered loaded with vegetables that werent on the menu including squash (my least favorite vegetable). There was no flavor to the dish and not a hint of "spicy curry" that was included in the menu description. I finished the dish in about 10 bites while 3/4s of the dish remained behind which was all vegetables I wouldnt eat. Two of the remaining members of the group had the burger with Pimento. One burger was under cooked and the other was overcooked. Half of one of the burgers was left behind because it was ordered medium but in reality was rare. We could and should have sent everything back but the Calarmari. We had plans for the evening and didnt have time, however. We went back to the moon bar later that night for a night cap because the drinks were high quality during our initial visit. We sat there for 20 minutes while the bartender chatted with friends and served anyone that would walk up to the bar. Im guessing he didnt want to walk out from behind the bar to the tables. It was very odd because we tipped him well during our first visit and we definitely didnt give him a hard time. I used to be a bartender and a bar manager so I definitely do my best to go overboard with tipping and treating people that work in the restaurant industry with respect. I KNOW how hard the industry can be. We even asked the bartender if they were closing soon to ensure we werent keeping them from cleaning and closing. I know how frustrating it is to have people walk up at closing time and we would have left immediately if they informed us they were closing soon. Despite our efforts to be decent customers we were ignored even though there was a single table in the moon bar. It wasnt as if they didnt see us sitting there. They saw us and ignored us...No clue why. We got up and walked out after a 20 minute wait without being visited by a bartender... The only saving grace of this place was our waitress during dinner (cant remember her name). She was excellent! She was friendly, prompt and our glasses never reached the bottom. She joked with us and did a great job. She is literally the only reason this place was saved from a one star rating. I literally have no clue how this place stays open and is so busy unless this is par for the course for this area. If this is the best Rome can do I would drive 20 minutes into Cartersville anytime I wanted to eat out. This place has no chance of competing with places like the Appalachian grill in Cartersville, just a short distance down the road. There are MUCH better restaurants in a short drive. read more

Went out of my way for a lunch treat. Great atmosphere and quick service, Ryan was attentive and efficient. Had the Salmon patties, green beans and steamed broccoli. I must say, very delicious flavors. Steamed broccoli was unseasoned so I dipped it in the cream bean juice!! Plate comes with jalapeños Corn bread, a nice heat! Try the sweet potato chips and gorgonzola dip first of all. Sooooooo good! We've had most everything on the menu and I've always been impressed. If you're a vegetarian they have a great veggie burger and delicious salads. My fiancé got a Thai/ curry something inspired dish possibly?? the last time we visited and was very disappointed in the portion of meat for the price of the dish. I'm not sure exactly what dish it was specifically, and the crab cake we ordered was literally one crab cake. Dismissive, unfriendly, indifferent, inattentive. I'd like to like it more because it's promising, but I think they've become stagnant in mediocrity. Went here recently and really enjoyed it. The food was good, pretty good variety even some healthier choices like turkey instead of beef. Very filling so no need to worry about getting your monies worry. Only downside was the band was a little loud for me but I also wasn't drinking and it wasn't my preferred style of music, so if your drinking and that's your style you'd love it 100%. read more

Since I was spending the evening in Rome for work I thought I would search out something delicious to eat for dinner. Harvest Moon Cafe was recommended to me and once I looked at the menu I was totally IN because, well, spruced up Southern cookin' is my THANG! I went at the grandmotherly hour of 5pm since I had skipped lunch and I was dining alone. The place was pretty empty as expected and hoped. They sat me immediately in the front room near the bar and the waiter came round to take my drink order. I liked how the menu had descriptions of the flavor notes for each wine so you could make an educated decision on which one you might like. So I picked one...and waited...and waited. And finally asked again. Apparently the bartender was MIA at that time for some reason. It finally came out after my appetizer did. The menu makes it hard not to over-order. They have delicious sounding appetizers like crab cakes, salads, pizzas, and even entrees like steak, chicken, and shrimp and grits. Oh the decisions! However I was dining alone and couldn't justify an entree plus an appetizer and a side item. So I ordered the hot pimento dip, a small house salad with grilled chicken and balsalmic vinaigrette, and applewood-smoked bacon mac-n-cheese. Hey at least I got some vegetables in the salad! So how was it? The pimento dip was served with tortilla chips. These may have been house made but they really didn't seem like it. The dip was creamy and really cheesy but there was an immense amount of grease standing on top of it. No biggie, I tried to stir it in but it really didn't go in ya know? So I just dipped around it. The other thing I noticed is that I didn't really get a pimento flavor at all. I was disappointed especially after eating all those calories. The salad was actually very delicious - greens, tomatoes, cranberries (I think?), cheese, some sort of nuts, etc. The grilled chicken on top was juicy and piping hot. Win. Then the mac-n-cheese. I have eaten mac-n-cheese that has made my eyes roll back in my head where I could see angels singing its praises. This is what I was hoping for. This is not what I got. I mean, it is hard to make bad mac-n-cheese so it wasn't BAD, but again, there wasn't much FLAVOR. It tasted like gussied up cafeteria style mac-n-cheese. The bacon on top was a nice touch though. My waiter was nice even if not very quick and/or efficient at times. And I have to say that I didn't feel like anyone was giving me the evil eye for being there alone and taking up a table. I also really liked the location in downtown Rome and the exposed brick, old building look of the place. So those things were great! Overall though I'm going to agree with Randy A on this one - for the calories I ate, the food should have gotten me completely OFF and sadly it wasn't like that. This WAS my favorite place to come home to. I have ordered same thing for 6 years: the grilled pimento cheese sandwich on oat bread and a side of fried green tomatoes. Now, before anyone flips out and enlightens me on the fact that the above is no longer on the menu: it has not been a problem until recently, AND, how hard is it to pull off grilling a sandwich?! One person from our table of 5 liked their meal, which was a burger, although he did point out that he could not tell it had pimento cheese on it. Person # 2 ordered the same thing as above, but instead of medium WELL, they gave her medium RARE. Mooo! #3: the bread on the cuban sandwich was not toasted and was soggy. #4: there were no roasted red peppers in the "shrimp and grits", which looked like grit soup. Bonus: when the MIA peppers were mentioned, she was served a bowl of peppers that were half roasted and cold in the center. #5, not my lucky day. I was served 2 slices of not toasted bread, topped with melted pimento cheese and a side of dry, chewy, over fried tomatoes. I regret not taking a photo now. The waitress even remarked "yeah, I kinda wondered when I saw it". Customer service may have also taken a hit since last I was here. The sweet potato chips and the fried onions remain as I remember, so there's ya one star. The hummus tasted like bean paste, (zero salt, zero tahini)...and served with cold pita. read more

She did not validate the parking and she accused us of trying to leave without paying for one of the meals. Sadly, instead of discussing this, she was immediately argumentative and rude. When it Rome... This is my favorite stop when I go home. The pimento cheese is to die for. If you are expecting stragglers, be sure to order it long before they are expected -- more for you. Also, any item on the menu which involves fried green tomatoes is not to be missed. I. however, am a celiac vegetarian, and the menu offers many choices for me, including their black bean patty and veggie plate. My wife and I have been huge fans of Harvest Moon and have been there many times in the past. We live about 45 minutes away, and we travel there specifically for this restaurant. The portions were always good, the quality was great and the service was great. We have never had to expect less. This past weekend, we made the drive for a date night and were seated promptly. Our server took a little while to come by, and kept darting off and coming back. When we were ready to place our order for drinks and appetizers, she broke out a tablet and spent 3 full minutes entering in 2 drinks and 2 appetizers. She was also fairly rude when we asked a few questions, as if she didn't have time to answer us and we were inconveniencing her. She then left and about 5 minutes later our drinks came out and our appetizers (one of which was partially incorrect). The sweet potato chip & dip plate also had only about 5-7 decent size chips, while the rest were tiny broken pieces. About 15 minutes later, after making eye contact and motioning for her to come over several times, and even having her hold up a finger, she came to take our order. This was of course after she was done reading the work schedule about 15 feet from us, and walking to the other end of the restaurant for a few minutes (I can only presume so that she could continue reading the menu without us bothering her). We placed our order and out came the tablet again. This time it took a full 5 minutes of painful silence while she figured out where things were. Here is a suggestion: if you have a tablet for ordering, and its obviously not making things faster / better, either have your staff take orders the traditional way, or at the very least, have them leave the table to finish entering it. That was one of the most awkward ordering experiences I have ever had, whether it was from a fast food, regular, or high end restaurant. Finally she leaves the table and we try to resume what was supposed to be an enjoyable evening. About 15-20 minutes later, our food arrives. My wife ordered several sides and a salad, as well as an extra order of their jalapeno cornbread. We have ordered this every time we come up as it is fantastic, spicy and thick. This time, we got a 1 piece square that was 3"x3" by 1/4" thick (previously it was always 2" thick). We got the attention of our waitress to inquire about that. We simply asked if there was a mistake, or is the jalapeno cornbread now only available in thin slices, and she huffs and removes it, only to return with two 1/4" thick pieces. The taste was about the same, but felt like it was a very cheap move. No restaurant in the south would sell a 1/4" thick cake as cornbread that I'm aware of. It was more like the thickness of a pita (seemed like a cheap way to try and save money or time, in a restaurant that has a reputation for quality fresh food and decent portions). Aside from that, my wife's food was good. Mine however, wasn't what I had hoped. I ordered the Wicked Cheese steak with their wicked pimina cheese. The rib eye was luke-warm and had zero flavor. And I mean zero, it could have been a flip flop. I added some salt which helped a little, but it didn't taste like a decent rib eye (or even a poor one for that matter). The bread was also iffy, and other than a few bites, I chose not to eat the rest of the bread. Overall, I was not pleased with the service nor the quality of the food that we had come to expect from Harvest Moon Cafe. Although it has been great in the past, this time it definitely was not worth the drive, nor the price we paid that night. I hope that this isn't indicative of things to come. read more

I'm not sure if the restaurant changed ownership over the last few year, but something has changed the menu and quality of food. This is such a great restaurant! Downtown Rome, Georgia reminds me a lot of my own hometown. There are lots of shops and local restaurants. I've been to most of them but Harvest Moon Cafe is by far the best! I would recommend the lunch menu and get the apple,bacon, and cheddar sandwich! This creation was so good I had to try to make the same for myself at home! It is a wonderful combination of foods! Everything at Harvest Moon is homemade and the desserts are wonderful. I have been eating at Harvest Moon since they were located in Cavesprings, GA and also their small cafe off of 2nd Ave in Rome, Ga. As their menu has become much more diverse and sophisticated you are still able to get some of their simple but flavorful originals like the Granny Smith Apple and Cheddar sandwich on honey wheat. The location on Broad Street has become a favorite of mine not only for the restaurant but also the Moon Bar on the back, they have just enough space to make it an intimate affair with local bands and great prices on drinks. They do tend to get busy around prime lunch and dinner times, but still well worth the wait. read more

My wife and I have been coming on and off for years, but we're done after yet another disappointing meal. Our waitress was amazing and got us though they might, but even she was embarrassed by the food. The sweet potato chips were tough like jerky--sent them back and the second batch was marginally better, but still not cooked properly. Old oil maybe? Too many chips put in at once? The Gorgonzola dip is consistently excellent, but without crispy chips what's the point? The red headed stranger burger was over salted and just sad. Their burgers used to be as good as the one I had at Seasons today. I get the feeling that people continue to go here out of habit since for the longest time it was about the only 'upscale' place on Broad. Save your money and frustrations and head to Seasons or Crawdaddies. It's not 2000 anymore--there are a lot of other great options on Rome. read more

Since I have moved to the area to go back to school I had heard of this place and the bakery next door for months. when I finally went I pigged out on the fried green tomatoes, the veggie plate, and then a slice of cake from the bakery. OMG is all I can say- they had to roll me out of the place. Prices are very reasonable and food is consistently good each and every time. Home cookin' is what we have here folks and it don't get better than this. I have put on 3 pounds since I have been going here- this is true! I give it 4 starts instead of 5 because on the weekends the service can be hit or miss and it is very loud. All in all one of the better places to eat in the area and located on cool Broad Street in downtown Rome. read more
