While in Folsom on Friday, my friend, daughter and I wanted to check out this Umami Ramen - which was named one of the top places to eat in Sacramento! We arrived around 5pm, ordered at the counter and found a table in the back. I loved seeing all of the mystery boxes, trinkets and snacks available for purchase! They also offered a nice drink selection and even ice creams - we purchased one of the way out! I loved the inside - there were lights strung throughout the ceiling and even some greenery as well - the bathroom even had fun murals painted throughout like Dragon Ball Z and One Piece! We ordered Truffle Garlic Edamame, Pan Fried Gyoza, Black Garlic Tonkotsu, Spicy Tonkotsu and a side of thick noodles and broth for my daughter! Everything was fresh and tasty! My only compliant was that I thought my Black Garlic Tonkotsu could have used some spice - that was my error though! The noodles were nice and chewy, the pork was tender and the jammy egg was perfect! We left full and satisfied! I would recommend checking out Umami Ramen if you're in the area or just in the mood for some really good food with a fun atmosphere! We'll be back again!

We pre ordered the special wagyu ramen for Mother's Day weekend. There was a line waiting before the restaurant opened but once you get inside, you just have to give them your name to check in. Ramen spicy 4/5 too spicy for me but it's good karaage 5/5 crispy and juicy

This is one of my favorite ramen restaurants ever. You order at the kiosk, take a number, and sit down. The servers will then bring you water and food. I got the black garlic tonkotsu. It is so good! The broth is perfectly seasoned, and creamy. I like to get the thick noodles for more chewy texture. It comes with an egg, chashu pork, scallion, and bamboo. Basically everything I usually get in a ramen bowl. I finished everything from noodles, toppings, and soup, that's how delicious it is! They also have a $25 and $45 combo, which are great for lunch.

We were in the area looking for ramen and I came across an old Reddit post that said Umami was the best in the area. We decided to take a chance and drove 25-30 minutes from downtown Sac and so happy we did because this place was awesome! Ordering using the kiosk is nice and easy. We had one Spicy Tonkotsu and one Spicy Paitan so we could try out both the pork and chicken broths. We also ordered the pepper karaage. The karaage was good - the chicken was really tender and juicy. Since they were tossed in a sauce, they weren't the most crispy, but I think that's to be expected. Still, they were pretty tasty. The sauce was a bit sweet, which we both didn't like as much so we'd probably stick with the regular karaage next time. Both broths were super rich, creamy, and flavor-packed. The spice level was good - decent heat, but not overpowering. Their default noodles are thinner, which offers some pros - the soup really sticks to them, which is great. The downside is the texture - these still had a good bite, but not really a good chew like you'd get with a thicker noodle. We'll probably try the thicker noodles next time. Overall, the broth here is next level. It is almost certainly one of the best broths we've had in the Sacramento area and we would absolutely drive the 30 minutes again to grab another bowl!

Recommend by family and it was so good . I ordered the black garlic ramen and it definitely had a strong umami taste . It was not spicy but they have chili oil and powder that you can add that makes it even better , and the egg was cooked perfectly ! The service was great. The restaurant is smaller but really cute how they have japanese figurines and merchandise for sale . The kids really love it !

This is my favorite Ramen, the broth is perfect every time. We love the choice of the thin noodles or the thick noodles, both are delicious. Each ramen had pork, egg, mushrooms and bamboo shoots. We added corn to one and extra noodles to the other. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. There are two kiosk's to order or they can help you order at the counter

Such a cute and fun ambience. Love the little shop of Japanese snacks. The fried chicken bowl was huge and delicious although so hot it took a bit to cool down. They make their own rice triangles! The only thing was our food didn't come all at the same time and we had finished the bowl by the time everything else came. But definitely a great place!

Hi-ya! This ramen place has a fun ambience--very anime--ish. But this place has such good ramen. The service is good, ordering easy: kiosk or in person. Food comes out fast, even when busier and it's tasty. The black mushroom tonkatsu ramen with fat noodles. So good. We've come here a few times for lunch the last few weeks--and you can quickly get in, eat and out. Really suggest to check this place out as we've enjoyed it and they are consistent with service and flavor.

I can't believe I haven't left a review yet!! Okay so we came back from Japan.. this place is better!! Absolutely hands down the best ramen, it is so flavorful every single time! We seriously come here twice a week. We have tried every single Ramen, I absolutely love the spicy miso and the black garlic!! my family now drives from Sacramento to come and eat here and the workers are fantastic!! very helpful always have a smile on their face!

Came here at the award for being a top 10 ramen spot in CA. The katsu don was good, but I really liked the addition of actual hearty chunks of potato. Most restaurants don't bother. My issue was with the ramen, the chashu was so dry. I heard other reviewers say the same thing but it's the first time I've had chashu like this. It was so disappointing the rest of the ramen was lackluster because of it. The noodles themselves were really good, but it's not enough for me to come back. Pepper karaage was a bit spicy and mediocre for me.

Updated review. Food - phenomenal as always. Great Tori paitan and karaage. I'm generously giving a 5 because I've always had good experiences. However. The new staff or newer staff that was hired needs to be trained on customer service and restaurant etiquette. I arrived sometime around 145pm today. Ordered and got my food around 206 (I took a photo and it has a time log). The server came by once after the food was handed out to refill water and then never again. Around 230 I see a staff flip the tag on the door assuming it's cause they are closing for their pm shift. At 235pm the server came to me and said "do you need a to go box?" I said no. And then he asked to take a few plates since I was nearing done. After that he never came back. Here's the problem. I understand you close at 230pm. However professionally it is more appropriate to come by close to closing time to let customers know "we're closing in 5 min. Is there anything I can help you with?" Or even come around then and calmly ask about the food and if I need to go box. The way he did it showed absolutely no care and more along the lines of "hurry up. We're trying to close" extremely rude to try and rush customers in that manner. I hope the owner/manager sees this and trains their staff.

Umami's decor was super cool to see! They sell Japanese sodas and blind boxes, and anime keychains! It's super spaced out. You can order from their kiosk upon walking up to their front counter. The ramen came out pretty fast, and it was good for the most part! But it was a bit salty. The portion was generous, and they had great topping options.

    Hailey R.

Solid ramen and no complaints at all! Stopped in for a quick lunch while visiting the area. You order at a kiosk and then grab a number and take your seat. While I was there, there was a free 4-piece California roll promotion that came with a bowl of ramen. The California roll was solid and even better because it was free! My black garlic tonkotsu was tasty and exactly as I would expect. The noodles were cooked well, the broth was flavorful, and the egg was cooked perfectly!

Sometimes it was hard to find him as he escaped into the inside deep into the kitchen. The first thing you notice when you walk in is how hot it is. They turned off the A/C (in sacramento weather! can you imagine?). The doors are all shut, with all the kitchen machinery and boilers and ovens running. The air stayed still and hot. Eventually I asked for the single staff, can I open the front door? He said yes. I opened it and finally, some fresh air! When we tried to order, they had fancy names for each ramen, but underneath it's really just the usual miso vs shoyu. The only difference is the single staff put in a LOT of garlic, like a lot. Taste is so-so The renovation is really nice though, and the tables/chairs are kept clean. Staff is ok friendly. Gave us utensils etc. Sometimes hard to find. Since it wasn't very busy when we arrived, we were seated right away. The dining room is fairly large, with a mix of tables, booths, and counter seating. Each table has a tablet for electronic ordering, but we decided to go old-fashioned and order through our server. We started with a large hot sake and six pieces of gyoza, asking our server to hold the entrées until we finished. The sake hit the spot and paired nicely with the gyoza. The gyoza tasted good but was just a bit harder than we'd like. For the main meal, I ordered a bento box with nigiri sushi and tempura, while the others chose a salmon teriyaki bento box and a Spicy Yellowtail Roll. My nigiri tasted fresh and nicely prepared. I also tried a piece of the Spicy Yellowtail Roll and found it to have a nice flavor profile. The salmon teriyaki was clean and sweet, with a natural salmon flavor, and was tender and juicy. The portions were generous, making for a satisfying meal, and everyone enjoyed their food, although my companions thought the tempura was a bit too oily. Despite the slightly firm gyoza and oily tempura, the good sake, generous portions, and relaxed atmosphere made for a very enjoyable lunch. The highlight for me was sipping the remaining sake and enjoying the nigiri.

Taste is subjective, and what one person finds delicious, another may not. However, there are certain universal aspects of dining, such as customer service, cleanliness, communication, and overall hospitality, that every restaurant should strive to deliver. My reviews reflect the complete experience, not just what's on the plate. We decided to try Hasu Teriyaki & Sushi in Folsom for the first time and brought the kids along. Unfortunately, the experience got off to a rough start. When we walked in, there were several open tables, but no one greeted us or explained whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. A female employee saw us but didn't provide any direction, so we picked a table ourselves. After waiting for a bit with no acknowledgment, I had to get up and grab menus on my own. We spent about eight minutes deciding what to order (never easy with kids), but still no one came by. After another several minutes, I finally walked the few feet to the register and asked, "Are we supposed to order here or at the table?" The response was simply, "Yes, order here." After placing my order, I was immediately prompted to add a tip before receiving any service, which is something I personally find frustrating. Then I grabbed our cups to fill our drinks myself, only to find the ice machine was out of ice. At that point, it felt like we were striking out on every opportunity for a good first impression. It appears there's only one employee handling both the register and the dining area, which may explain some of the confusion. If that's the system, it would really help to have a sign letting customers know to seat themselves and order at the counter. There are only about seven tables inside, but without any guidance, the dining experience is confusing for first-time visitors. Once the food arrived, it was presented nicely. I ordered the Rainbow Roll and Dragon Roll, and visually they looked great. Unfortunately, I found the flavors to be underwhelming. The sushi was very mild, and even the wasabi had almost no heat. I added far more wasabi than I normally would, yet it barely had any kick. For someone who really enjoys sushi, the overall flavor just didn't stand out. The kids' non-raw rolls were also just average. To her credit, the employee did check on us twice after the food arrived, and she was friendly. I think she recognized that I was frustrated after spending roughly 15 minutes in the restaurant without any acknowledgment or explanation of how ordering worked. Overall, the experience wasn't terrible, but it wasn't one that makes me eager to return. Between the confusing service, lackluster first impression, and sushi that was simply average, I'd probably look elsewhere next time.

There's just…read moresomething so so soothing and satisfying about this cuisine and something so communal and fun that I just can't get enough. When considering a hot pot restaurant, I think you have to look at two things the broth choices, and the selection of the signature proteins. A lot of places will try to convince you that you need to upgrade to the premium level to get access to the best of the best, but I am more appreciate places like this one that offer a ton at the low and medium level with only a few really choice select things added to the premium level Making the decision pretty easy. We opted for the mid tier which included several cuts of beef, lamb, pork chicken, as well as a lot of fun, add-ins, like fish balls, and tofu, skin, chrysanthemum greens, and more. For broth, I went with the Sichuan spicy medium heat level and frankly I probably could've dialed it up a little bit. As the broth evaporated did get hotter and hotter like it's supposed to and I did have a couple of reactions to the heat as it hit my sinuses, but other than that, it was deliciously tolerable. Now, while we upgraded to the midtier, my favorite cut of meat had to have been the spicy beef and the green chili chicken. Both of these had house marinades or dry seasonings on them that made the meat delicious and added it to the broth as well. But above all that the real shining star here has to be the service. The server was ever present in the most appropriate way possible quick to take an order, and the kitchen was even quicker to get that order to us. The restaurant was completely clean and we were never wanting for more than literally a second. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area if you live in the area and you haven't been, you are seriously missing out. Oh yeah and the shrimp balls are made in house and insanely good!

He loved it. The Teriyaki sauce was not overly sweet (like many other places). The stir-fry was well done (not oily), with a very good selection of veggies, and some tofu. The veggies and noodles were cooked to perfection. It was a big hit for him. Prices were quite reasonable, and the few people I interacted with were very pleasant. It was a very nice lunch experience.

Mikuni has several locations and they are always consistent in their quality of food. I like that they have their standard menu but also showcase some seasonal highlights and whatever fresh fish they might get in. But I've seriously never have had a bad meal at a Mikuni. This location follows the usual Mikuni decor and upbeat vibe. Seems like this location is very popular and is always busy. I some people stop here on their way to Tahoe if they are driving for a long distance. This time, we ordered a bunch of sushi for a birthday event at home. They have several different platter options and you can add on additional sets of nigiri. Came with a whole sealed container of soy sauce, a large portion of ginger and a VAT of wasabi (it was an extreme amount). We also ordered some simple Udons for the kids. It was a hit!

Inside and outside seating options. They had a nice bar area. Two separate multi-user restrooms for men and women. Donovon was our server and he took great care of us. He was attentive and kept checking up on us. We ordered the following and shared most items. Edamame: Soybeans with Choice of Regular (Plain), Freaky (Seriously Seasoned) or Garlicky (garlic, lemon, cilantro, butter). We chose the Freaky, which was the edamame was tossed in a garlic and shichimi togarashi. So, it had a slight spice to it. They were really tasty. Beef Teriyaki: Stir fried beef and onion in teriyaki sauce with sesame seed. The beef was a bit chewy. Spicy Tuna Handroll: Spicy tuna, cucumber, sesame seeds. Unfortunately, my friend took one bite and didn't like the taste or freshness of the HR. Incredible Roll: Spicy tuna, panko shrimp, tuna, white tuna, avocado, sauce, torched, masago, onions. Tommy Roll: Panko fried soft shell crab, spicy avocado blend, onion, masago, soy wrap, spicy tuna, crab mix, Spicy Dream sauces. Train Wreck Roll: Chopped eel, seared tuna, avocado, crab mix, panko shrimp, spicy sauce, sesame seeds, onions. Fair Oaks Roll: Panko shrimp, avocado, sauce, masago, onions. All the rolls were tasty and enjoyable but they weren't "OMG tasty". My friends who had eaten here before thought the food was better before. The restaurant was crowded, so...you decide.

It's a very nice place, nothing fancy, the people were very friendly They had a very large menu of all kinds of different items, I decided to go for a bento. The spicier items on the menu have a listing next to the item ranging from one to three peppers. I decided to try the honey chicken. It had one pepper next to it on the menu. I asked my server how spicy it was, and he said not very spicy. He was right. It was a wonderful barbecue chicken, the chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The honey gave it just a little bit of a sweet, without overpowering it. The sauce that came on the side with the chicken, I put a little bit on top, and it really added to the flavor. It had just a tiny bit of a "kick" to it, well within what I like for spicy. The sweet of the honey sauce, and the spicy played absolutely wonderful together. The rice was nice and tender. , I mixed some of it into the chicken, and it was a very nice bite. The veggies and the salad were very fresh, I'm not sure what the dressing was on the salad, but it was a bit creamy, and it was delicious. I had enough food left over for a second meal. The price was very reasonable, especially since I got two meals out of it. I want to come back and try more items. Thank you.

The reason why I am giving this place a 5 Star is because from the time we walked into the Business until we left, its been a very great experience. We walked in and we were very warmly greeted and then we were then taken to our table where we sat down and from the time we sat down the ambiance was very nice and the decorations inside were just as beautiful. So after 5 minutes we got waited on and we were asked on what drinks we wanted and my wife and I ordered a Dr Pepper. Being that there was so much on the menu to order we kept asking our Waiter to please keep checking on us because we werent 100% sure as to what we wanted. Well after about 10 minutes we finally realized that we knew what we wanted to eat. We first started off with Appetizers and we ordered the Mushroom Bomb and Crab Wonton's. We put that order in and then about 5 minutes later the waiter came back and aksed what we wanted to eat. We both decided on getting the California Roll and The Rookie Sushi Roll. We both began talking and just enjoying the environment and let me tell you I have seen Restaurant Employees work as a team but the people at this place were completely in unison every time. You could tell that they all had camaraderie amongst them because they interacted very well with each other. The 2 people that I want to recognize because they both took great care of us was Seven and Bella. When Seven was off taking care of other guests, Bella would be right there working side by side making sure that the guests in their section were taken care of. The California Roll came out and so did The Rookie and let me tell you when I eat Sushi, I have to have my Soy Sauce and my Chopsticks, thats the only way to eat that. The California Roll was absolutely delicious and for the first time ever eating a Teriyaki Chicken Sushi Roll, was delicious as well. From the beginning to the end everything was wonderful. I'm so excited about this place that I am going to bring my "Lunch Group" here the next time we meet so they can enjoy Bento Box just as much as my wife and I did.
