I'll start with the good, the waiter was very friendly. My son got the kids bento box and he loved it. He chose the teriyaki chicken and it came with rice, fries and a few pieces of fruit (says fruit salad on menu). I ordered the spicy garlic edamame and the King's Roll. The spicy garlic edamame had good flavor but it was overcooked and the edamame was mushy. I ordered the King's Roll without Unagi or Unagi sauce. The roll was supposed to have seared tuna, masago and green onions but I got none of that. I didn't like how some pieces of the roll had avocado and the other had tuna but none had both. The quality of the sushi was poor, pretty basic. Tasted like the sushi you would get at a restaurant that has half off sushi rolls. read more

My family had the pleasure of dining at Hokkaido Sushi in Folsom; and it was hands down one of the best Japanese meals we have had in the area! we had the sushi platter, and the fish was incredibly fresh--it literally melted in my mouth. Came here for our first time, We were impressed with Hokkaido. The sushi rolls were yummy and fresh. Not too rice-y either. The fried oysters were very good as well (lightly battered). Loved the garlic edemame too. The tea was very nice. Loose tea leaves. It wasn't just the regular type tea bags. Nicely decorated inside the restaurant. Welcome to the neighborhood! We live right around the corner and were so excited to see a sushi spot opened just minutes away, so we decided why not try Hokkaido instead of one of our regular spots tonight. The place was completely empty when I walked in. We were seated, given menus and waters, and then ordered all under 5 minutes. Throughout the visit, we did feel monitored because we were the only table there, but that makes for attentive service . We were in and out of the restaurant in less than half an hour! We ordered two rolls and one order of nigiri. Their fish quality is solid and their rolls were pretty yummy. While being full sized, the rolls are a little skimpy on toppings and smaller than what I am used to. Their nigiri has a good fish:rice ratio and the white tuna was very tasty. I also liked how their rolls aren't covered in sauce. Prices are also comparatively lower than other sushi spots around the area. They also have quite a few specials running for a limited time! The inside of the restaurant is small and fairly quiet, and I'd probably choose take-out over dining in next time. Overall, it's pretty good, close to home, and convenient! read more

I thought about leaving one star for this restaurant as we were so disappointed, but the waiter was very nice and attentive so I gave the restaurant a two star rating. I guess because he didn't have any other tables to wait on. We came in at 7 PM on Saturday night and we were the only patrons there. We noticed the overwhelming smell of bleach and some other cleaning solution when we were seated there. We were only there a short time and I was getting a headache. My son ordered the miso soup and he said it tasted like hot water with a bit of miso in it. He said it didn't have any flavor. I ordered salmon sashimi. Though the pieces were quite generous, it tasted very bland, not like salmon. I ate only ate half of it. We ordered steamed edamame and an order of spicy garlic edamame. The waiter brought out spicy edamame and a separate bowl of garlic edamame. We didn't point out the mistake. Both of the edamame dishes were good, especially the garlic edamame. It was the best thing we ate! We did notice there were no sushi rolls offered with scallops in them, which is my husband's favorite. So he ordered a few pieces of nigiri and he said the rice was strange tasting, like they forgot to put the rice vinegar in it!? OK, this is my second time here. I sat down this time and ate inside. I tried the nigiri for one. Comes with 8 piece chef choice and California roll $25. I have to say was grocery store quality. The saba had some flavor to It. I also ordered the seaweed salad, was okay. For me, this will be a place to get a couple rolls. But for quality nigiri go elsewhere. This place is what it is.
