I was pleasantly surprised!! What could one think of a burger company who filled the space of an already delicious Arby's restaurant? What I got was...a burger pure and simple. Hat Creek - # 2 - Burgers Near Me - Austin, Texas

Been here a couple times for lunch, and it's been great both times. They offer a "Little Hat" (single patty) or "Bit Hat" (double patty) burger, plus turkey burgers. Haven't tried the turkey yet, but I may give it a go next time. The Little Hat is definitely not little, and both times has come out very juicy and tasty. Their beef is very fresh and never frozen, which I'm sure adds to the deliciousness of this burger. The fries are hand-cut, and they leave the skins on, which I love. Very flavorful. Service is fast and friendly. Interior is pretty basic, no-frills. It's comfortable enough to sit and eat your lunch, but not really somewhere you'd want to linger and hang with friends for an extended period. Definitely has a fast-food vibe. (Unlike the actual food!) The restaurant was very clean both times I've been here. Also like how they repurposed the Arby's sign out front. :) read more

Ugh. I love burgers, and I love so many indie burger joints (and chains too) in this town. I was so excited to try Hat Creek, but boy was I disappointed. We picked up takeout the other day, and the first impression was bad--the restaurant was dirty, floors and tables, and the staff seemed rushed and not particularly friendly. Oh well, we were there for food, so. . . We ordered some chow and took it a very short distance home. I know that takeout doesn't always travel well and that you should expect slight sogginess, BUT this food was so slimy and wet and gnarly that it was inedible. The french fries were completely soaked in grease such that they weren't really fries at all, but rather a tennis ball-sized potatoey, shiny, slimy clump. I tried to pull some apart from the clump and they felt like worms. They all went into the trash. :( The burgers were cold, and the pickles and tomatoes had been oddly piled on all on one side, so the top half of the burgers was sliding off and crumpled. The whole thing was so greasy that the bottom bun became dripping wet with grease and compressed into this paper-thin, doughy mess. I had to scrape it off. Add to that, our order was wrong. One burger was supposed to be straight-up from the menu, the other was supposed to have no mustard and no onions, and they managed to somehow get not one but both of those wrong, so we had to rebuild the burgers and transfer onions. Not that it mattered, because really the things were pretty much inedible, and we ended up sort of using the patties on our own bread to make sandwhiches. Lame. Dude, it was a joke, and it wasn't cheap, either! I won't waste my money there again. Bummer. read more

The true reason for this review is due to an employee named Jacob. He's extremely friendly, the care and genuine care he has for his guest is incredible. He made it a point to converse with myself and 3 year old son. Not just once but multiple times. He remembered our names and just really made our experience so much better. The interior could have been cleaned up a bit - I know it's just a simple style burger shop, but in the middle of the day there was no one but us there. I enjoyed my Big burger and fries. I like that I can have a beer or wine with my burger. The playscape was nice, but leaned a little towards "Lord of the Flies" around 7 p.m., if you know what I mean. It's not big, so at peak play time it was a bit crowded. Solid burger joint with lots of great options for the kids. My favorite is the "Signature Burger", which comes topped with their house made jalapeno sauerkraut. If you're gluten- free you can get your burger on lettuce, or go for the delicious chicken nuggets. The fries are more like shoestring and always perfectly cooked. They have a delicious veggie burger...you can please just about anyone here. Thursday nights are crowded with the $1 beer special. Yes, that's right $1 drafts from Strangeland Brewery. We eat at the Burnet Hat Creek on a regular basis. It is my 4 year olds favorite place to go. The food is great, the staff is always incredibly kind and welcoming, it's always clean, and the playscape is the best. This morning we had a Pajama Party there for our kiddo's birthday and it was the best experience ever. Fun, laid back, easy, the kids and parents had a great time and the staff was so nice and kind. This place? Definitely no big deal, and overpriced considering what you get, which isn't much. Better than Mighty Dry (which is the worst of the premium burger places in Austin), not nearly as good as Five Guys or Mooyah's, and about on a par with the much over-rated P Terry's. I mean, I'm glad the cows ate grass before they were slaughtered and all, and it really makes me feel less guilty when I eat their meat, but... Well, it's just a burger. Went through the drive thru today for a quick bite... but there was nothing quick about it. There were two cars in front of my and I probably waited a solid 10 minutes. I wouldn't have minded waiting if I were inside, but it's a drive thru. It's supposed to be fast. Anyway, I finally got my food, a "Big Hat burger" and fries. The menu is not very descriptive so I didn't realize I was actually getting a double cheeseburger, which is not something I would normally order, but it's fine. I got it home and dug in. I would've given 5 stars based on the food. It's a pretty standard burger and fries, but I like that there are options like a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, and the fries were nice and crispy and the right amount of salty. And I got their cherry limeade, which was way too tart and syrupy all at the same time. Just kind of funky. Bottom line is that its good if you're right there and want a burger. Intro: So staff and the bathrooms were all good. Nice friendly white girl to welcome me and overall general cleanliness. Food: I open the bag, and the fries... are wrapped just like In and Out. Just... like... In and Out! if you're going to copy the chain police make it look a little different Minus One Star. I pull out the burger. Before I unwrap it, the size itself immediately brings down the rating. For a $12 meal the burger-size should be bigger without question!! The taste is great! A nice blend of flavors. After months of wavering I finally decided to go try Hat Creek and it sure turned out to be a bad idea. I was certainly attracted by the 'all natural hand formed patties' and the 'super fresh produce'. Angus beef may be known for its tenderness and flavor but Hat Creek did its part in removing both those natural characteristics. When I read 'hand-formed', I envision thick juiciness. What I got was a mallet smashed thin dry meat patty on top of a salad which was pretty far from 'super fresh'. It may have been 'super fresh' days ago but certainly wasn't anymore. Been here several times and I've always had SUPER friendly service, and good food. I like the hand cut fries, and the turkey burgers are tasty and put less guilt in my soul and less fat on my ass. Win-win! They also have the option to nix the bun in favor of lettuce, as well as putting your burger on top of a salad. Another huge plus for me, THEY HAVE FOUNTAIN COKE ZERO! I am addicted and having trouble finding it anywhere so this was major points for me. I've never dined in, drive thru only so far, but the people in the window are always the absolute nicest I have encountered with fast food. Every time I go to this location for breakfast, lunch or dinner the service and food are exceptional. You almost forget that you are at a fast food joint. I stopped by to have lunch with a coworker who recommend it. I ordered the big hat burger with cheese and mixed fries with sweet potatoe fries. I wiuld definitely recommend both. We also ordered some fried pickles that were good. I donny think they were the best I ever had but good nonetheless. I was super excited about a cute and fast burger joint around the corner from my house. I was even more exited about a drive-thru. Vegans don't get that luxury. Oh and vegans don't get to eat here either. The Hot Dang burgers boasts an "all grain patty." So I order one, and look forward to a fast grainy and nutty burger. It was nice, a bit crumbly, but good. A bit pricey with fries and a drink, but still. Fast food! The meat eater ordered a couple of burgers and said they were just what they should be : good, simple burgers. The restaurant was okay, nothing to punch a baby about. The service was fast, and employees wore creepy and uncomfortable smiles. So after eating the Hot Dang "all grain" burger, I discover there are eggs in it. Hey, Hat Creek, it's not an "all grain burger" if you put eggs in it. Not your typical burger place. I was really impressed by the cleanliness, modern decor and fun environment. They have a lot of menu options including breakfast items, chicken, tacos, milkshakes and of course burgers. I had a burger with jalapeños and it was outstanding, especially for the price. While Hat Creek is a relatively new contender in the crowded Austin burger market, their burgers can definitely hold their own. The fresh ingredients shine through and they don't try to over-complicate things with too many choices. The only complaint I have is that the cost of cheese seems to be a little higher than it should be. But despite that, I can see Hat Creek quickly becoming an Austin institution. read more
