I think I do prefer a sweeter matcha and I should have asked for extra sweet. My friend and I went here to try their matcha. Good thing there wasn't a long line when we came because it's a small location with a limited seating capacity to wait for orders. You have the option of getting it sweetened and I got it with a little bit of syrup, but I probably could've skipped the syrup all together as it didn't bring much sweetness to the drink (I did ask for the least amount possible). With the toppings, the price is steep. Without toppings and sweetener, price is decent. They do sell the powder online and apparently may start selling in store too. Honestly, not worth the wait. The line was extreme and the prices are steep for what you get. To be fair, I couldn't have dairy in my drinks, so that limited what I could actually try, and the quality of the matcha itself is genuinely really, really good, you can tell it's the real deal from Kyoto. Place is a complete waste of money. I ordered a sea salt hojicha latte and was baffled when they gave it to me. As you can see in the picture, the cup wasn't even filled all the way, not to mention the size is so tiny compared to other drinks. You're really getting ripped off with the serving size here. The sea salt lattes aren't even real lattes because there's no milk mixed into it. They just poured the matcha into the cup with sea foam on top. I wanted to at least add whip cream on the top to fill the cup, but they charge $2.50 just for the add on. Complete scam. I'm probably never going to come back again and stick to Airoma or Whip in the same plaza. Located in a plaza with free parking. Cafe opens at 10am and we got there exactly at 10am. After parking and walking in there were already 4 parties who had ordered and were waiting on their drinks. Shortly after us a steady flow of customers came in. It wasn't too crowded yet. I ordered the original matcha latte with shiratama and matcha ice cream as picture on the menu and my husband got the matcha iced blend, also pictured on the menu. Service was quick and good. The staff are used to filming so will allow you to film them whisking the matcha and will ask if you want to film the pour. Cafe is small but good size and clean. The drink is reasonably priced, but be aware that with the add ons it adds up. The total for our 2 drinks was $26/$27 eek... the matcha iced blend is sweet, so if prefer a sweet drink I'd recommend it. You won't have to worry about the flavor changing since everything's all blended together. The cream on top was delicious. My drink started off good but then got diluted pretty quick. The mochi ball is not soft and chewy as I expected. They added quite a bit of matcha powder and is definitely better than the other places I tried in Vegas, but I do like a strong taste. REAL UMAMI. It goes down remarkably smooth without any harsh, astringent bite at the back of the throat, slightly bitter but delightful. It leaves behind a lingering, natural sweetness that stays on the tongue long after the last sip, accompanied by a clean, grassy finish. I got the original and already this good. 5 stars for the matcha because it's high quality at its core. 4 stars for the presentation and the effort to make it look smooth even though it's not. 2 stars for the outrageous pricing. You get in line outside and are let inside group by group. When you finally get inside, you get into another line to place an order. But this second line is sitting on a bench and scooting over to get closer to the register. The third wait is when the matcha makers call your number and you get to watch them make your matcha. We came in twice and ordered like 6 drinks each time. One of us ordered a drink that ended up being over $20!!! Like what the matcha?!? This is actually the most I've ever paid for matcha and I think of myself as a matcha connoisseur. What irritates me the most is the ice cubes are incredibly large, they won't let you get less ice AND your order isn't filled to the top of the cup. I get all the rave and how they are the first location in the US, but honestly not worth my hard earned money. Not sure how anyone could leave anything but a positive review for this place. By far the BEST matcha I've had to date. You can clearly taste it, especially if you get the ice cream. That's a treat in itself and when you pair it with the sticky rice balls and the drink it's pure heaven. Another commenter complained about price but you get what you pay for and you don't have to do the add ons for your drink. This matcha is imported from Japan. To my knowledge we are the only one in the US aside from Japan. I highly recommend trying this place! I had a very disappointing experience on my first visit to Matcha Hatoya. The service was honestly terrible. When I asked what was inside the matcha shake, the girl at the register couldn't answer and kept repeating "it's matcha," instead of explaining the actual ingredients. It felt like she didn't know the menu at all, which is unacceptable for a specialty shop. I also asked if I could have shiratama (mochi) on the side with the matcha ice cream, and they refused, saying they "can't mix matcha and mochi together." That made no sense. Because of this, I had to order everything separately, which was inconvenient and frustrating. The whole experience felt rigid, unaccommodating, and very unprofessional. The staff lacked both knowledge and flexibility, and the service was not pleasant at all. After traveling all the way there, this was incredibly disappointing. I will not be coming back. I would much rather go to Nana's Green Tea or Matcha Maiko !!their staff are far more knowledgeable, flexible, and provide a much better customer experience. read more
